INTERSTELLAR
ETWINNING PROJECT
Can you influence the past
by travelling over time?
 No, the time dilatation concept over time that Einstein
had proved allows for to travel into the future, as in
Interstellar (through a very fast time-travel, faster than
the speed of light light’s speed). However, no scientific
theory can make it possible to travel into the past at the
present time moment, even though some physicians
have tried to formulate some theoretical projects in
order to let the man to travel into the past without
breaking nature’s rules. (Belgium)
Can you influence the past
by travelling over time?
 Yes, you can. Cooper is able to influence the past by
entering Gargantua. When he finally manages to give
Murph the numbers humanity needed to be saved from
extinction the dimension he is in disappears (in fact it
was created by humans of the future so that someone
could save them before it was too late) (Italy)
Why is Cooper younger than
her daughter in the end of
the movie?
 The answer is something in common with the theory of
relativity. In some places in space, time ticks at a
different speed. An example is that when you’re near a
black hole, the time goes slower. This is because of the
gravity. The reason why Cooper is younger than his
daughter is because he spends (what seemed for him
certain minutes, but what was for his daughter a lifetime)
in a black hole. You can say that while his daughter’s life
went past, for him there were only a few minutes that
passed by.There is such a big difference that you can say
that for him time stood still. So at the end of the movie it
seems that Cooper is around 40 years old while his
daughter is around 80 years old. (Belgium)
Why is Cooper younger than
her daughter in the end of
the movie?
 Cooper in the end of the movie is younger than his
daughter Murphy. As a matter of fact Cooper, is an
astronaut inside a spaceship which travel at the speed of
light, thank to this effect, he does not grow old as it
happens on Earth. Also being the influence of
Gargantua's gravity makes time flow even slower, so a
few hours correspond to 76 years on earth. (Italy)
Can we travel in the past?
 It isn’t possible to travel in the past. The gravity is
enormous strong when you’re near a black hole. The time
goes also a lot slower but it can’t go backwards. So you
can conclude that can’t get back in time and therefor you
can’t travel in the past. (Belgium)
Can we travel in the past?
 Yes, we can travel in the future. In Interstellar Cooper
manages to reach the future because being close to
Gargantua makes the time flow slower in it. When he
gets out he realizes that those few hours were
approximately 80 years on Earth. This however is based
on what we see in the movie. Basing ourselves on
Einstein's theory of relativity it is possible to travel into
the future, by reaching a speed close enough to the
speed of light time dilation is caused. (Italy)
Can you travel in the
future?
 No, we can't travel in past.We can only influence it as we
see in the movie,Einstein in fact discovered that time
flows only in one direction, forward. HOWEVER it is
theoretically possible to travel both back and forward in
time. scientists think that wormholes and black holes can
bring a human to a different space and a different time.
