• Kitchen balance
• Ruler
Description of the expirement
• In the experiment we look what happens with the weight of a magnet when you
hold another magnet above it.
• Will it decrease or increase?
Results and conclusions (Belgium)
• If you hold the positive pool above the positive pool the magnets repulse and the
weight will increase
• If you hold the positive pool above the negative pool the magnets attract to each
other and the weight wil decrease
Results and conclusions (Italy)
• If you hold the positive pool above the positive pool the magnets repulse and the
weight will increase
• If you hold the positive pool above the negative pool the magnets attract to each
other and the weight wil decrease
Comparison of the results
• The results are the same because of the Law of Universal Gravitation. It states
that two particles with masses ma and mb at a distance r apart attract one another
with a force F in the direction along the line joining the particles, the magnitude
of this force is:
• F = G x (ma x mb): r2
Reflection
• The conclusion is that if it is attracted upwards the weight reduces on the scale.
• The weight by attraction and repulsion is the opposite of each other.
