2. 7) Looking back at your preliminary task, what do
you feel you have learned in the progression from
it to the full product?
 Comparing my preliminary task product to my
completed final product, I have noticed a lot of
differences and progression I have made with
filming and editing.
 Overall, I have spent a great deal of time working
hard on my final product which I think is needed to
create a successful film.
 However, looking back on my preliminary task, I
have taken some things into consideration about
the progression I have made since producing it.

you feel you have learned in the progression from
it to the full product?
 Comparing my two products, I have learned that sound is a
key aspect in creating the right atmosphere and provoking
emotions from the audience.
 My preliminary task contained no diegetic sounds or music
whereas my final product ‘After Hours’ had a lot of this which is
why I was able to provoke those scared emotions from the
audience compared to the preliminary task product.
 An example of this would be the dramatic music that is played
whenever Florence makes an appearance in ‘After Hours’.
This shocks the audience and makes them feel tense and
scared.

you feel you have learned in the progression from
it to the full product?
 The quality of the final product is significantly better than the preliminary
task, mainly due the difference in camera and equipment.
 The flip-cam does hold some advantages over the large cameras such as it is
easier to upload the digital files to the computer to be edited and the small camera
allows the person filming to take shots from difficult angles due to its small size.
 However, overall the large cameras are considerably better as they have more
features that are useful when editing.
 The zoom on the large cameras is better and also more steady, which makes the
film look more professional.
 The memory of the large camera is also a lot better than the flip-cams. The fact
that you can just swap the tape over when the memory is full is so much easier
and quicker to film with.

you feel you have learned in the progression from
it to the full product?
 Lastly, I feel that the progression that I have made to produce the final outcome was
largely due to the editing progress.
 The fact that I had more time, experience and knowledge to add effects and sound to
my final piece made me realise the importance of the editing process that films have.
 Comparing the two products, I can see the progression made which small aspects
such as jump-cutting from scene to scene. As there are no transition fades in the
preliminary task product, it doesn't look as professional as when they are used in my
final piece.
 Also, the editing of colour also made a difference to each product as the change from
black and white to normal colour made my final piece more interesting and easy to
follow.
 Lastly, the credits in the final product are a great progression made compared to the
preliminary task as it makes the film look more legitimate and professional.
