WHAT HAVE YOU LEARNT ABOUT
TECHNOLOGIES FROM THIS PROCESS OF
CONSTRUCTING THE PRODUCT?
JORDAN BUNNING
INTRODUCTION
During the production of the opening sequence we have used many different forms of
technology as we thought it was a good way to boost the quality of our opening sequence. In
using different technology I have learnt more about them. In this slide show I will only go
through the most useful technologies to us.
Blogger is a blogging website owned by Google. It was originally owned by Pyra labs but Google bought it
in 2003. Blogger allows any user with a Gmail account to create blogs on whatever topic they wish.
Blogger can also be accessed through an app on the mobile phone where you can post and view other
blogs.
I have had to use blogger to document all of my progress on the opening sequence. Blogging is a useful
way of keeping track of your progress it has also been useful for evaluating the progress made as we have
gone a long which has allowed us to better our production. I found that this is a very good blogging
website as you are able to incorporate files, videos and images which can help to display what you are
trying to explain. However I have had some problems using blogger as I have found it isn't the easy to
design the layout of a post, as everything seems to stick to a grid meaning you couldn't place certain
things in the places you want. This is a minor problem though considering the website is free to use.
Blogging has taught how useful it is to proactively keep track of your progress.
YouTube is a website that allows users to share videos which
can be viewed around the world. It is mainly used for
entertainment purposes in the current day but there are still
educational and artistic videos to be found. YouTube was
stared off as website created by three former employees of
PayPal back in 2005 but by 2006 it became one of googles
subsidiaries.
YouTube has be a very useful source. We looked on YouTube to do research. The research was to look at
other opening sequences so we could gather film techniques from actual opening sequences . This helped
us decide what shots we were going to use and what style of film we felt we best suited to making.
YouTube has also helped us gather resources for our production. It has helped us with our productions
soundtrack. On YouTube we managed to find royalty free songs, sound effects and stock footage (such as
the Film 4 water mark found at the beginning of our opening sequence). YouTube has made it possible for
us to easily access our opening sequence. YouTube has helped us greatly by providing research which has
helped has in developing our opening sequence. This is because it has taught us different techniques and
gave us inspiration.
Serif MoviePlus X5
Serif MoviePlus is the editing software we used for editing our production together. Editing is
very important to any form of video production as it is used to put all the shots together to
create a fluent scene. We chose Serif MoviePlus X5 as it was the best software we could
pick that was accessible to us. As we had all used this software before we found it easy to
use the functions it provides. Whilst using serif we have leant how to trim clips, how to align
clips to stop it from jumping from shot to shot, how to use transitions such as crossfade and
how to implement sound such as the music and voiceover. This soft ware has helped
constantly better our production as we could watch back shots and compare other shots to
decide which shots should go where. This software also how we implemented our titles into
the opening sequence. Serif I felt was a very simple and intuitive piece of editing software.
Sound
Sound is a vital part to the experience of any film. You need sound to make a film
immersive, good sound leads to an immersive environment for the audience. In knowing
this we knew that it was crucial that we get the sound correct. We started of by searching
a website called sound bible which has a huge catalog of royalty free sound effects. We
found a few sounds that we could use in the film however later we decided against it as
the sounds didn't sound very realistic. We then turned to the idea of using a voice over
and music. We felt this nicely suited the thriller style we were going for. Use of music and
narration takes away the lack of Foley sound and keeps the audience immersed as the
music provokes the correct emotion of the audience. Implementing sound into our
production has taught us how important sound is to the experience of the opening
sequence.
Camera: Cannon
EOS 600D
The type of camera we used was a Cannon EOS 600D. We decided on using this camera
as the video quality and sound capture is extremely good. I feel that the opening
sequence greatly benefited from the HD video quality delivered by this camera. Using
the camera has taught us the importance of
