The document discusses the technologies used to create a magazine. It describes using a Canon 550D camera to take high-quality images and learning photography skills like controlling aperture and depth of field. Adobe Photoshop was used to adjust image brightness and contrast before adding text. Internet Explorer and a mobile phone helped with research, communication with a focus group, and uploading content to a blog for easy access and future reference. Microsoft PowerPoint helped organize codes and conventions and create evaluations. Through this process, the author learned new technological skills that allowed them to professionally produce and organize their magazine research.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

1. QUESTION 6
What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
2. TECHNOLOGY
During the production process of my magazine I
used a variety of different technological products
which helped me construct my final outcome.
Throughout this process I leant about them and
used them to help me improve my magazine. I
used:
Canon 550D
Adobe Photoshop CS3
Microsoft PowerPoint
Internet explored (Google, blogger etc.)
Mobile Phone
3. CANON 550D
I used this canon camera to take images for my magazine which is a
crucial part of the magazine as a whole- especially for my target
audience as it was very image heavy. Throughout the process of taking
images of my magazine I’ve learnt how to control the ISO, aperture and
depth of field which helped me to gain the best possible outcome. The
camera I used had a memory card with a large storage size so I was able
to take many photos at a time and choose afterwards which ones I
would use-with the help of my focus group. By using a digital SLR
camera I was able to look at the images immediately after they were
taken, so I could see what needed to be improved in the shot.
4. ADOBE PHOTOSHOP CS3
• By using Photoshop I learnt how to adjust the contrast and brightness of my images before I
layered text over the top of them. I researched tutorials on Youtube in order to learn how to do
this that were easy to follow and posted them on my blog so I could use them in the future if
needed.
Here is an example of
the image for my
double page spread
before I edited it and
after I edited and
added text. The
brightness and contrast
makes the image more
interesting and vibrant
which is pleasing to the
eye
5. INTERNET EXPLORER
Using internet explorer helped me to conduct research during the
production process of my magazine, such as for my codes and
conventions and audience research. I then uploaded this research to
blogger so I could record what I had done and refer back to it easily.
Having a blog created a way to keep this information a lot more easily
than it being handwritten and was able to research ways to improve
the production of my magazine with Photoshop tutorials etc.
6. MOBILE PHONE
• I used my phone for many reasons such as taking
images, using email and contacting my focus group
for my magazine. This technological convergence
meant that I could make the production process
easier and quicker to do. I also took my phone to a
concert in order to take an image for my contents
page which was a lot more convenient than carrying
a camera, then emailed them to myself so I was able
to edit them in Photoshop. When contacting my
focus group I could ask for their opinions and
screenshot them on Iphone Imessage, sending them
to my email and then upload to my blog.
7. MICROSOFT POWERPOINT
Using PowerPoint I organised my codes and conventions in a clear and
concise way and also made these PowerPoints for my evaluation so I
can refer to them at a later date if needed.
8. CONCLUSION
• Before making my magazine, I was not familiar with many of the
technologies I used to accomplish the final production of my
magazine. By learning to use different technology I have learnt new
skills and can now clearly organise all of my research, showing my
evidence and understanding of the research. Being able to use these
technologies has made my magazine more professional and well
presented.
