However, internal strife, class conflicts, and military ambitions paved the way for the end of the Republic. Julius Caesar’s dictatorship and subsequent assassination in 44 BCE created a power vacuum, leading to a civil war. Octavian, later Augustus, emerged victorious, heralding the Roman Empire’s birth.
Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Augustus reformed the military, established efficient administrative systems, and initiated grand construction projects. The empire's borders expanded, encompassing territories from Britain to Egypt and from Spain to the Euphrates. Roman legions, renowned for their discipline and engineering prowess, secured and maintained these vast territories, building roads, fortifications, and cities that facilitated control and integration.
The Roman Empire’s society was hierarchical, with a rigid class system. At the top were the patricians, wealthy elites who held significant political power. Below them were the plebeians, free citizens with limited political influence, and the vast numbers of slaves who formed the backbone of the economy. The family unit was central, governed by the paterfamilias, the male head who held absolute authority.
Culturally, the Romans were eclectic, absorbing and adapting elements from the civilizations they encountered, particularly the Greeks. Roman art, literature, and philosophy reflected this synthesis, creating a rich cultural tapestry. Latin, the Roman language, became the lingua franca of the Western world, influencing numerous modern languages.
Roman architecture and engineering achievements were monumental. They perfected the arch, vault, and dome, constructing enduring structures like the Colosseum, Pantheon, and aqueducts. These engineering marvels not only showcased Roman ingenuity but also served practical purposes, from public entertainment to water supply.

Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

3. I have learnt that a lot of technological devices and services are used
in the production of films. They are a crucial factor in producing a
quality film. Not only that, but you have to also use them in
conjunction with other equipment. For example, the camera we used
needed a tripod to ensure that our shots were as steady as possible.
This would eliminate any movements caught in the scene if the
cameraman hand was to move.
It was also important that we knew how to use the filming equipment
before we starting the actual project. With technology rapidly
growing, it was a lot easier to conduct research online about similar
films to get an idea of how to go about filming ours.
4. When conducting my film research, I had to
set up a blog in order to log all of my
coursework. I created an account on blogger
to do so and started to file everything relevant
on there in different posts.
Once we thought of multiple initial ideas, we
drafted out a survey to distribute to the public
and our peers in class. In order to get our
survey out to the public, we used an online
service called ‘Survey Monkey’. This is a free
service to publish your surveys online for a
variety of audiences to see and fill out.
I used a USB stick to transfer my
coursework done in class onto my laptop at
home. This allowed me to carry on and
finish the work from home.
5. In order to film Limbo, we
used a Nikon D5300 as it
seemed to be the best to film
in full 1080p HD. In addition to
this, as it is a DSLR, we were
able to take pictures on it
alongside side filming with it.
I was introduced to prezi this year
and at first, I didn’t feel very
confident using it. I required some
assistance each and every time
however, as I started using it for
my project, I got used to it and
realised that actually, it’s not
difficult at all. I quite like the
professional look it gives to
presentations so I used it for some

Macbook Pro with retina
display to create my blog
posts and insert the images.
Not only that, but I also used
Keynote to make
presentations with specific
templates to ensure that my
work looks appealing.
Lastly, I used youtube to upload our
preliminary task for the world to see
as it is very fast and efficient. It can
be accessed from anywhere around
the world. Not only that, but we also
used youtube to upload our final
product Limbo.
