1. Question 6:
What have you learnt about
technologies from he process of
constructing this product?
2. I used Microsoft word during research tasks to evaluate
professional magazine covers, as well as creating basic text
documents to move onto things like Photoshop In my written
article, and slide share to present evaluation on my blog. It’s a
helpful software as it provides features such as spell check
and images can be added to liven up the page. Other than this
it is a rather boring and basic way to present work and has it’s
limitations when trying to change the layout of the page.
PowerPoint is a slightly more advanced way of presenting work
than word, as it allows a more creative way of laying out
information and gives more freedom. I used PowerPoint during
my market research and evaluation stages to give more interest
to my written work. I prefer PowerPoint to word as it is easier to
navigate and use over all, however it is still a rather boring way
of presenting work and also as its limitations as you have to stick
to a square page.
3. Photoshop played a large part in my project as it allowed
me to both edit my photographs and build my magazine
pages. It is an amazing piece of software and has an
unlimited amount of features, however this can be
slightly overwhelming and confusing when trying to
carry out simple tasks. My skills of using Photoshop have
developed massively over the course of the year and I
have learnt to many different techniques of editing and
design.
I used a Nikon camera throughout the project to record
images for my magazine pages and ancillary project,
the camera I used, once got to know could take a very
high quality image and over the course I have gathered
the basic techniques of taking a high quality image and
controlling the camera settings. this took a while to get
used to however as the camera has a lot of settings
and ways of use which can be confusing at first
4. I used Prezi during my evaluation stage, as it makes a basic
presentation interesting with its innovative and unordinary
way of working. With Prezi you are not limited to space or
just a single square page like PowerPoint and word, the
presentation when completed is a lot more fun and nicer to
look at and navigate around. At first Prezi was rather
difficult to use, but after watching a tutorial on Youtube I
quickly got the hang of it and rather enjoyed creating my
presentations
I used Soundlcoud in my evaluation to give a whole
different style of presenting my work. I found that the
idea of listening to a piece of text rather than reading
it was refreshing and a nice change to a basic text
format. Souncloud was easy to use, and was much
faster and less hassle than typing up a page of text
and uploading it to my blog.
5. I used Slideshare during my evaluation to transfer word and
Powerpoint documents into presentations which could then be
added to my blog with an embed code. This online software
proved to be very useful and made the process of uploading my
work a lot easier and simpler. It was also very easy to use.
The usb stick was a piece of technology hat I used regularly
throughout my entire project to transfer my work from one
computer to another, around college, and even take it home to
complete work. The usb is extremely useful and makes moving
work a lot easier than say emailing as it can carry any type of file
and large files too. However it has its downfall as if it is lost,
forgotten or broken and the work isnt backed up then it cannot
be retrieved and this can be a major set back to the completion
of work.
6. I used blogger to present all of my work online, which is
extremely helpful as it could be quite a task to submit such
large amount of work in another way. Blogger can also present
work from other online platforms such as Slideshare and
Soundcloud by using an embed code which made he process of
uploading work much simpler. It was an easy online software to
use and rather enjoyable. It also gives a range of different
themes and styles to make the work presented more
interesting, however I chose a simple theme so not to distract
from the work.
I used Facebook in my evaluation process for question
four to create a closed focus group and posted my work
online to receive feedback. This made the process of
feedback a lot easier as I could upload my work to
Facebook from the same computer and then screenshot
the feedback and put it onto blogger, again on the same
machine. Facebook is also a familiar website so there
were no limitations in terms of use making the process
much faster and easier than it could have been gaining
feedback in person or on paper.
7. Throughout the project web 2 played a huge part and most
of the work I had done wouldn’t of been possible, or would
have been a lot more difficult without technological
convergence. For example researching, creating my
magazine, editing the photos, gaining feedback, evaluating
my finished product and presenting it on blogger could all
be done from one machine device. Making the entire
process a lot easier and more enjoyable without the
hassles of transferring information form one device to
another and back again, or printing out each piece of work
to be evaluated and submitted on paper.
Technological convergence make working hassle free and
more enjoyable.
