1. Question 6:What have you learnt about technologies from the process of
constructing this product?
Firstly, I have learnt to use a Nikon camera more efficiently. Before this I had never heard of
the rule of thirds so I have been able to capture more interesting photos which catch the attention
of others more. The only limitation of Nikon cameras that come to mind is that you get what you pay
for, if you have limited money then the image quality can be very poor.
I have also used Microsoft word which was perfect for writing my article also I have used it
to write this evaluation, I like using it because it corrects my spelling and gives me synonyms for
words rather than me repeating myself. It also offers things such as; a dictionary, copy and paste,
different fonts and font sizes, colours, page alignments and various other settings to make it look as
professional as possible.
It’s also good to present images; however, it has limitations such as the fonts so I had to go
on 'dafont.com' to choose more specific fonts which I used on my magazine such as the masthead.
This font is called ‘base 02’, the website dafont.com is easy to use because you simply download any
font that you want onto your computer and the website even gives you instructions on how to do
this. The only downside to this is that I don’t like downloading things onto computers because it’s
easy to get a bug on the computer.

2. In addition Microsoft word isn’t compatible with blogger so I had to use slide share. Since I
have been using Microsoft word since I was young I found it easy to use and quite simple to use.I
found slide share easy to use because it had instructions on the website on how to get the embed
code.
Another programme I have used is Photoshop. I think Photoshop is good but difficult if you
haven’t used it before;I had little experience with it so it took me a long time to figure out what each
button and setting does. For example I had to ask for help on how to crop and cut out images and
shapes. I found it difficult because there were so many different things you can do to the image and
it was hard to decide what I wanted to do with my images, also I think it took me quite a long time
because I'm not used to the programme so I kept having to ask for help. Another problem I've had
with Photoshop is that if you put a lot of images on or open a few programmes then it is likely to
crash. It has taught me to save my work more often. Photoshop is one of my favourite programmes
because it allows you to edit your photos to make them look more professional.
I also used blogger to put my work on, again at first I wasn't sure how to use it but after
practice it became a lot easier, I think it can be quite intimidating if you haven't been taught how to
use it and if I hadn't been taught then I would have probably tried a different website. I like blogger
because you can organise your files into sections and make it easy to read, you can also edit the look
of your blog and personalise it, and you can move files and edit them if you change your mind.
I have used the social networking site ‘facebook’ for my focus group where I showed people
my magazine and asked them to comment on what they like and what they think should be changed.

3. I think that Facebook was good for this because it allows you to share photos between any
groups of people that you choose and you can do it privately so not everybody has to see it. In
addition you can add and delete your own comments if you change your mind. You can also message
people at anytime and anywhere so you don’t have to chase after them and they can take their time
to reply and don’t have to reply straight away.
Software I used is outlook to email myself some files to and from home. I like this because
you don’t have to worry about losing a USB or any hardware and you can access it from anywhere
with internet. The only limitation is that you can’t email too much information at a time.
I’ve also used Microsoft PowerPoint which is good to present images and small amounts of
information or bullet points. It can also look very professional if you keep it simple.
‘Voki’ is an online programme which I have used to present a question on my evaluation. It is
basically an avatar that says anything that you want it to simply by typing in what you want. You can
change and edit its features and the whole appearance of it. I think that it is a good way to present
my work however it has a word limit so I couldn’t put all of my work on one avatar.
From constructing this product I have learnt that it takes a lot of time and various different
types of technology to create a magazine or pieces of media and you need to have a widespread
knowledge in a lot of various types of technologies to create something like this.
