On our Apple mac book, we created our film
using the programme "iMovie" instead of
final cut. We decided to use iMovie
because it's is much easier to use to
construct our film and we are familiar
with how iMovie works. The weakness of
using iMovie is that we couldn't make the
shots work together as well as we hoped
because the transitions within the
programme are limited. I think this would of been
entirely different if we used Final cut to produce our
opening sequence.
To produce different sound effects we
experimented with the programme
"Garageband" It was confusing as to
how to work it first, we then found
that it was difficult to make a sound
that sounded relatively like the music
within the 1940's and which also
sounded eerie and mysterious to fit in
with connotations with in the film
noir stereotype. So, in order to find
music for our film we researched and
found websites such as:
http://www.freesound.orgwhere we could
find individual clips of free music,
and non-diegetic sound. We also looked
on YouTube for music clips that are
copyright free, we found a few that
worked well with our film, I edited and
cropped out different parts to include within our opening
sequence. We also used sound from iMovie to include into
the non-diegetic sounds such as footsteps for the shot of
the character walking.
The camera that we used was Panasonic; the camera was
lightweight, easy to use and was a good quality for its
size. It was especially good for filming low angle shots
such as the one where it shows the character walking.
The camera also picked up the lightening really well, it
was low toned and showed the darkness of the shadows. We
made sure to turn off the camera after we completed each
shot in order to keep the battery so that it didn't run
out during filming.
To complete the final shots we needed we set up the
tripod, it took a decent 5 minutes to fit the camera on
the actual tripod, which was a pain when only we used the
tripod for only 5 minutes. However, the tripod did help
to show the shot much better and it was easier to get the
shot focused on the characters.
