Question 5
HOW DID YOU ATTRACT/ADDRESS YOUR
AUDIENCE?
Questionnaires.
 Before I started production, I created a „Survey Monkey‟

questionnaire to find what my potential audience would
find most effective to appeal to my audience. I included
questions such as favourite sub-genre and preference over
roles. Although my target audience was not represented as
they had mainly females answering, but still in the age
range. The questions asked were quantitative and
qualitative to get both types of data responses to get a
insight of the potential audience.
Questionnaires.
 Post production, I again used “Survey Monkey” to

send a questionnaire to those in my Media group.
The questionnaire included questions about my
thriller film, what they enjoyed about it and it‟s key
features. As the people from the group were 16/17
they fitted the age of my target audience so I could
use the feedback effectively, I also posted the link on
Facebook and Twitter to people around this age
group to get a diversity of ages in the groups opinion.
Some Results.
People were
able to
recognize the
film was a
thriller, using
film examples
to prove their
points.
I was able to find the
percentage of my male
target audience answered
the post questionnaire.
Blog Comments
 I posted my production on “Wordpress” and had a

member of my media group comment on it, he was my
ideal target audience of teenage male.

 This shows the key features that attract my audience are

the lighting and use of characters, as this is mainly
positive feedback I don‟t feel like I had to make any large
adjustments to my production to make it more
appealing.
Relations to other thrillers.
 I‟m using the comparison of the thriller franchise

“Taken”, this is because of the connection made in the
response to the questionnaire. They had a 15
certification, in the thriller genre and have the similar one
syllable title to make it seem memorable. I analysed this
thriller poster so I had understanding of some of the similar
conventions such as the use of mystery and voyeurism.
They also have a similar victim, a teen school girl which
creates femme fatal. The action and violence involved
which attracted a similar target audience may have the
same effect on my target audience as if they like that type of
film they'll know what to expect.
USP
 I think the all female cast was a part of the USP as it

challenges usual thrillers, this was appreciated in the
thriller responses as having female protagonists was
very popular. A female cast was used to address the
wants of the potential viewers, and appeal in
comparison to other thrillers were their is usually a
male hero and villain.
Overall Results
 To attract my target audience from my Survey Monkey

responses. In relation to majority of females aged around
16-22, a female protagonist in a thriller film with the subgenre of psychological would be most appealing. The
majority already said they enjoyed horrors and wanted to
see a urban area used for the setting.
 Some of these weren‟t possible to address such as an urban
area as we‟re located in a rural area so it would be more
convenient as some would still prefer a rural area. This is
shown by my results that people
are interested in my thriller.
