IMovie allowed the student to easily edit their music video, syncing the lip movements and instruments to the music. It also enabled adjusting the video clips' darkness to match their ancillary materials. During planning, IMovie was used to analyze conventional camera angles in music videos through freeze frames. This informed the shots used in the student's final video. Without IMovie, the student felt they wouldn't have been able to edit their video to the standard they wanted.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

2. IMovie.I movie helped me to be able to edit my music
video to the best standard that I could. This
software allowed me to edit my video easily and
make the lip-syncing and musical instruments in
time. It also allowed me to edit the video clips and
make them look a bit darker and edgy which
created links with my ancillary, this was turning
the contrast right down. (Shown in the picture in
the bottom right corner).
During my research and planning stage I also
used IMovie to establish conventional camera
angles and shots that would be in a rock music
video. This was a freeze frame analysis of When
We Were Wolves music video. By using IMovie it
allowed me to add freeze frames of conventional
shots and add text to show the reasons I had
added a freeze frame and to make sure that I
could use some of the same shots in my final
product. IMovie allowed me to put it onto
YouTube where I can find it easily.
Reflecting on this, I found that without the access
to IMovie from my MacBook I wouldn’t of been
able to edit my video to the standard that I wanted
and if I was to do this again I would definitely use
IMovie because of the tools it has to make it
easier.
This is a short video, the video is below the PowerPoint.
1.
3. 2.
3. PowerPoint.
PowerPoint was only used to help my edit my ancillary. By using this as an editing software it allowed me too edit my CD properly.
This tool helped me get my photo
into black and white, to make it look
more edgy and rock. But it also let
me change the contrasts and light to
make it just how I wanted it.
The line tool helped me to make
sure all of my fonts were lined up
with each other and not out of place.
Also the use of the shape tool
helped me to get the solid black
colour for the spine of the CD. It
allowed me to get it in line and
correct size.
Because the image was too
big, by having the crop tool on
PowerPoint it helped me to
have the image fully sized and
crop it to the lines I had
created (size of the CD).
Overall, PowerPoint helped me to
create a well edited CD, and
without the tools is provided this
would not of been possible.
4. Instagram.
Instagram again was mainly to help edit my ancillary; by using this (before adding the image to PowerPoint) it helped me to
make the image look more edgy than the camera allowed it too. This wasn’t the colour of the image it was just the touch ups
like saturation, contrast, light and sharpness.
On the video I start by adding the image (emailed to my phone from camera images on laptop) I went onto the app and went
onto the third editing section, I start by turning up the brightness of the image to lighten up the middle, I then went on to the
contrast section and turn it down a lot to make sure it looks unique and the bright and dark have a clear difference. Thirdly I go
onto the saturation and I turn it down so its dull ready for me to add the black and white on PowerPoint. Finally I turn the
sharpness all the way up and then save it and upload it to my laptop.
Reflecting on this Instagram allowed
me to edit my photographs the way
that Photoshop doesn’t do. Also
using this app made it easier for me
to edit my photos at home because I
didn’t have access to anything else.
The video
is below
the
PowerPoint
5. Cameras – Canon, Sony and IPhone.
For my ancillary photos I used a Canon EOS 50D, this helped me to get a high quality image for my CD and
Advert. I also used my IPhone 6 Plus camera for another image (when playing around for the right image) on
my adverts, this still had a good quality but it was not as professional as the Canon camera.
For the filming process of my coursework, I chose to use a high quality smaller camera, this was because it was
a lot easier to control on a tripod (Also the tripod helped to keep a steady hand and keep my shots very still
and not shaky in the narrative section). This still allowed me to get high resolution video footage, which made
my video look a lot more professional as it had a clearer image.
Without using these types of camera equipment I wouldn’t of been able to get such a good quality of
image/video and reflecting on this I wouldn’t of used any other equipment because it helped me get the
quality of photo and video that I wanted to achieve in my planning.
6. YouTube
YouTube played a huge part in my both my research and planning and my main music video. YouTube was a effective
platform to start my research on because it allowed me to search up lots of different music videos and look at all of the
conventions that rock music videos has. YouTube also has a feature that let me keep all of the videos I had researched into
a playlist so I wouldn’t loose the conventional ones that I had found.
YouTube also helped me with uploading my drafts and final music videos
easily, so that I could embed them onto my blog and my target audience
could access it easier and quicker. Without having YouTube as a
platform has allowed me to keep all of my drafts together so I can review
my progress and also keep them all in the same place (easier to find).
And without YouTube as an uploading platform my videos would not of
uploaded to a good standard.
