What have you learnt about technologies from the
process of constructing this project?
When using my camera to record my opening I have learnt a lot of various techniques.
When I first started using the camera I didn’t initially know how to properly use it, however
after doing my prelim and experimenting more with the camera, I have learnt the basics of
zooming in and out. I have also explored many different camera angles and shots whilst
recording, one affect on my camera is auto focus, this helps get the shots into perspective.
I also got the hang of using different camera shots and angles, then I started practising
recording clips simultaneously between each other.
Once I recorded all of my footage, I found it quite simple to transfer my files onto my
editing program on the Mac (Final Cut Pro). For this all I needed to plug the USB into the
camera and the computer and simply select the files I wanted and add them to the
software.
The software I used was Final Cut pro, It is a complicated software that involves lots of
learning and fiddling. Using this required me to constantly rearrange my clips to put them
in the correct order and the correct time scale. As my film is set in a dream, I had to adjust
my colours of the clips to black and white I experimented by using the basic colour
correction edits of: saturation, gamma, brightness and contrast. I used Distortion in audio
files to make dramatic parts seem more realistic. I had to add audio effects and tracks over
the top of each other, this was so my music didn’t fade in the middle of the clip and carried
on throughout it all. Adding titles and credits was easier that I had originally imagined, as
all I needed to do is find the effect I wanted then add text and crop and alter the size until
it fit my clip in the correct place. Final cut pro allows you to see where audio tracts and clips
are therefore it is easier to manage. It is also easier to manage timing as I use dissolves and
cuts regularly. other software’s like Imovie would not have been able to handle the
capacity of the videos.
I also used online presentation devices to help me present my coursework in a more
significant way. I have used Blogger as main source to hold all of my coursework.
Blogger allows me to post information in all sorts of forms, and allows me to add
photos and videos from other sites and documents, I did this by using the embedding
system. I used other technologies to present my coursework such as; Slideshare, Prezi,
Emaze.
