2. From the second the trailer starts we see the production logo which conforms to the trailer conventions.
The trailer begins with an exposition shot which introduces the characters. This motivates the plot however the dialogue is unclear making it
difficult for the audience to understand what is being said. In order to make it easier for our audience to understand we added captions for
teenagers to help tell the story. The slow pave editing and cross cutting helps build up the suspense. The characters talk about how they plan
to steal everything which suggests it’s a heist. We used a flickering editing technique to introduce the powerful female character who will join
the group. This is quite unusual to see a female protagonist in a heist therefore subverting from the conventions of a heist film.
We used characters which would be expected to see in a heist, for example, the ‘hard man’ with muscles working out. We used props like the
pig mask to hide the identity of the characters which makes it quite sinister which conforms to the heist genre as in many heist films identities
are kept hidden.
The CCTV footage shows police involvement which is typical in the heist genre emphasizing binary opposites, in this case – the criminals vs.
the police. As the trailer continues we see the group get together and plan how they are going to carry out the crime. This is almost like one
of the stages in the three stage heist.
We then see the directors names which conforms to the trailer conventions.
The mise-en-scene conforms to the conventions of a heist film as we show a badge and phone when we see the police officer. We used an
over the shoulder shot to show from the officers point of view. The use of maps further emphasizes and makes it clear that this trailer is of
the heist genre.
The pace of the trailer changes as we use slow motion to build up the suspense. This is evident when the characters are ‘on the run’.
The use of guns as a prop conforms to the conventions of a heist as this the most obvious weapon used in heists.
Some may find it difficult to understand what genre our film is. The trailer makes it difficult to understand whether the film is a comedy caper
heist or if it is a street urban heist. Setting a heist film in an urban area is quite unusual therefore subverting from the convections of a heist
film.
