2. AUDIENCE PROFILE
My primary target audience were people women aged 14-28 from any socio
economic category as the younger end of my target audience would be from
the socio economic category ED and the older end would be from ABC, and
would be the psychographic of aspirers.
I would potentially have a secondary audience of Laura Mulvey’s theory of
the male gaze of men 18-25.
It was crucial to complete this research as it helped me aim my products at
their interests in order to create an engaging and gratifying product.
Before I created my main product and my
ancillary texts I needed to establish who
my target audience was so I created an
audience profile including different things
that my target demographic would
engage with.
3. FOCUS GROUP
Once I had established my target
audience I created a focus group,
including four girls that would be within
my target audience.
I used my focus group constantly
throughout every stage of my research,
planning and production to get audience
feedback so that I knew every step of the
way that my products were on track and
that they would be successful within my
target audience.
This helped me to know if my target
audience were receiving my products in
the ‘preferred reading‘, this being from
Stuart Hall’s Reception Theory, meaning
that my media texts were being
interpreted by my target audience how I
planned for them to be.
4. After I had created my focus
group I created a questionnaire
about what they would be
interested in so I could get clear
results to analyse and use in my
planning.
I gained information about what
genre the music should be what
type of talent the would expect
to see and different information
about a narrative and the
different locations they would
expect to see the video to be
shot in.

5. TREATMENT
I made a treatment which included what I was
planning on doing for my music video. I then
received audience feedback from my focus
group, which confirmed my ideas were in the
right direction of making a successful and
engaging music video. This then led me to
begin planning my music video.
6. FIRST DRAFT OF MUSIC VIDEO FEEDBACK
After I completed the first draft of my
music video I created a questionnaire
that I sent to people in my target
audience and also to my focus group.
I did this to ensure I was on the right
track of the criteria they would want
and expect to see from my product. This
helped to highlight areas of strength
and areas for improvements. It was
important to see the areas of strength
because it showed me what my target
audience liked so for the areas that
needed improvements I could adopt the
same style.
Some of the improvements such as to
add more shots were crucial to know as
it changes the whole feel of the music
video that needed to be more engaging.
After receiving this feedback I went
away and did some more filming so I
had more shots, I also re did some shots
so that they looked more professional.

7. Although majority of my feedback
thought I had enough shots and
the pace was just right 15% said I
needed more footage and even
though that is a minority I want to
make sure my target audience
were 100% satisfied with the
product so it was the best I could
possibly make it. This audience
feedback gave me a great deal of
information to work with to
improve my product.
8. SECOND/FINAL DRAFT OF MY MUSIC VIDEO FEEDBACK
After completing my
improvements I showed my focus
group my final version of the
music video and received positive
feedback from them about how I
had taken on board the
comments from the previous
feedback and that it had really
benefitted the outcome of my
music video. I asked my target
audience/focus group if the
improvements had been changed
and it was clear to see from the
response the development in my
product and showed that my
target audience thought that no
more improvements needed to be
made.
9. MAGAZINE ADVERT INITIAL FEEDBACK
When it came to creating my
ancillary products I showed my
focus group a flatplan for my
poster and also a draft including
different options for the main
image. I asked them to write down
which option of the pictures they
liked best and also any comments
on the plan. I received helpful
feedback that influenced my
decision of what to do on my
magazine advertisement. This
helped me aim my magazine
advert at my target audience so
that it would be something that
caught their eye, making it a
successful product as it would be
fulfilling its purpose.
10. DIGIPAK FEEDBACK
For my digipak I created a flatplan and a
first draft of the digipak, I then asked my
focus group for any opinions. They
mentioned to changed the positioning of
some of the text on the CD Disc and to
add the stormy background to behind
the disc aswell as being on the other
pages, they also mentioned about
adding the artists signatures to the pages
where they are on their own to give a
more personal touch. I took all of these
suggestions on board and added them to
my product which made it a lot more
aesthetically pleasing and created a
more successful product. They also
praised aspects that they liked and
thought were successful. The feedback
was helpful in pointing out the areas for
improvement so that I could make my
product the best it could be.

11. FINAL AUDIENCE FEEDBACK ON MY ANCILLARY
PRODUCTS
I did some final audience
feedback on both my
finished ancillary products
to ensure that no more
improvements needed to
be made, and to also make
sure there was a clear
connection between my
ancillary products and my
main product through the
housestyle and brand
identity, the results came
back extremely positive
with no improvements
needing to be made.

12. CONCLUSION
Overall, audience feedback has been crucial in the success of my
products. It kept me on track and ensured I was providing my
target audience with products they wanted that were gratifying
and engaging. I contacted them through several different
platforms, such as, face to face, text messages, emails,
phonecalls etc. This allowed me to get quick feedback so that my
products could be improved to fit the needs of my target
demographic. It highlighted strengths and weaknesses of my
products and allowed me to adapt them and create successful
and professional end products. Without this feedback my
products wouldn’t have been half as engaging to my target
demographic. It also ensured that I adhered to the generic
conventions of existing products. My audience feedback
ensured that I avoided having any area for improvement in my
final products.
