QUESTION 3
WHAT KINDOF MEDIA INSTITUTION MIGHT DISTRIBUTEYOUR MEDIA
PRODUCTANDWHY?
By Evie Littlewood
I based my film opening on an already existing narrative,Gone Girl. This could be seen as
following the postmodernism theory. This theory suggests that we are never making new ideas
we are just using existing ideas, which in this cause is correct as I’m using the same ideas as the
producer of Gone Girl, therefore abiding by the postmodernism theory.
Gone Girl is one of my favourite films due to the intensity and the way it grabs the audience’s
attention, therefore this was something I wanted to do.The distributors of Gone Girl were 20th
Century Fox, one of the Big Six major American film studios. Due to this film creating this much
success I would additionally predict my film to also be a success, however I believe that a
production company, such asWarner Brothers, to distribute my film rather than 20TH Century
Fox.This is because my film has some rather unrealistic elements to it, such as the anonymous
mask, therefore the film would fit in withWarner Brothers rather than any of the other Big 6.
Warner Brothers is an entertainment company, film studios and, of course, a film distributor
that has branched fromTimeWarner’s.The company was founded on the 4th of April by four
Warner brothers. Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack.Warner Brothers now is one of the biggest
distribution companies existing, being the distributors of all Harry Potter movie’s, Batman,The
Hobbit and many, many more.Warner Brothers specialise in distributing sci-fi and action
movies due to their reputations, this is where their knowledge is at its best.

I believe that the film opening that I have created could be a huge success, which is why I am
predicting a distribution company such asWarner Brothers to distribute the film. The potential
audience that the film would attract would be a larger audience, the film wouldn’t specifically fit
under one genre therefore expanding the target audience resulting in a lager attraction of a target
audience.Warner Brothers create films in which attract a huge target audience.Although, the film
isn’t a sci-fi or action film, like usual films in which they distribute, or a following sequence of another
film, I do believe that my film opening has potential to create a huge amount of profit. The
technologies in which I would expect to develop the rest of the film would need to be the most recent
software and equipment, this is yet again something thatWarner Brothers have.Although my film
doesn’t fit under the genre of action, parts of the rest of the film could confine into the action genre,
therefore attractingWarner Brothers usual target audience additionally.
Looking into the back ground ofWarner Brothers, on the other hand, it seems once or twice a year
they do like to invest a lot of money in to different types (genres) of films. For example, in 2009
Warner Brother distributed the film ‘The Blind Side’ in which man it into the top 25 grossing profits
forWarner Brothers. The genre of this film is a sports drama, therefore massively diverging from
existing products that they made, however the film still became a huge success which suggest
Warner Brothers do in fact distribute other films, which is why I would predict them to distribute my
fill if it was ever to make it that far.
