The document discusses how the media product uses and develops conventions of real magazines. It describes including forms like a cover photo, masthead, headline, eye contact with the cover star, and selling line on the cover to make it aesthetically pleasing and engage readers. Columns, photos, and websites are used on the contents page. The article page uses columns to space out text, a photo with reduced opacity, and pull quotes. A QR code on the contents page challenges conventions by linking to audiovisual content.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

1. Q1. IN WHAT WAYS DOES YOUR MEDIA
PRODUCT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE
FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL
MEDIA PRODUCTS?
BY JACK DAVIES
2. FRONT COVER
• I have used forms and conventions
on my magazine cover to enhance
the aesthetics of it. I used a photo-
shoot image on my front cover to
portray my music artist, my image
was relevant to my magazine genre
as the artist was wearing clothes
such as the bucket hat which is
popular in the grime garage and
house industry at the moment as a
fashion accessory.
• Furthermore the text I have used for
my masthead is a font that is related
to my genre as it is very futuristic
and it fits with the genre as its
current and the grime and garage
genres are coming back and
becoming very popular and will be
very popular in the future. It is
important to have a good cover page
which has lots of forms and
conventions on it because it is the
first thing that the reader of the
magazine will see.
3. MASTHEAD:
• I also used a masthead on
my magazine as it is
important as it can also act
as a logo which will make
my magazine more
memorable and also it
gives it an identity which
is needed to make it
unique to all the others.
• The masthead can also be
used throughout the rest
of my magazine which will
keep reminding the reader
who the magazine is by,
this is also used by other
well known music
magazines such as XXL.
4. HEADLINE
• Another form which i used on my
magazine was the headline, this
could be the most important form on
the magazine cover as people are
going to read it and if this is
interesting then they wont buy the
magazine however if the headline is
catchy they will want to find out more
and buy the magazine.
• Also the headline ties in with the
cover image and therefore it must
have some relevance to the magazine
or they wont fit together and then the
magazine wont work however in my
magazine my headline consisted of a
storyline about the main photo-shoot
star therefore it links and makes it
professional.
5. EYE CONTACT
• A convention I have used for
my front cover is that I have
included eye contact
between my cover star and
the person reading the
magazine however I have
slightly broken this
convention as my artist is
wearing sunglasses and
therefore you cant visually
see your eyes but he is
looking straight at the reader.
Also I have positioned my
artist in the middle of my
page this makes it look more
balanced and it also shows
that it is the main center of
attention that you see as the
reader.
6. SELLING LINE • I have also included a selling
line on to my magazine
which again uses the same
font as my masthead and I
have placed it at the top of
my cover as it is out of the
way and isn't on my cover
image and also it is in a
position where you can see it
clearly and I also feel that it
fits well on that space on the
page.
• I have kept the colors of this
very neutral as I don't want
to draw away any of the
attention away from my
masthead and headline, this
is the same for the actual
background of my magazine
front cover.
7. CONTENTS PAGE
• I have used forms and
conventions on my contents
page throughout, I have used
columns, images, website
addresses and also different
graphics.
• I have tried to make it as
informative as I can so that
the reader understands
where all the different
articles in my magazines are,
I have also used added a box
which has all the magazines
social media information
which will help any readers
find out more information
about my magazine and the
content within it
8. COLUMNS
• One convention I have
used on my magazines
contents page is columns,
these help break the page
up into different sections, I
have used a column which
tells the reader of my
article about the actual
content of the magazine.
• I used two columns for my
contents page, this was to
ensure that it didn't look
overcrowded but I still
wanted it to have lots of
information on the
magazine and also for
there not to be as much
blank space. This is a
standard convention found
in magazines.

COLUMN 1
9. WEBSITE
• At the bottom of my page I
have included the website
of the magazine which has
a graphic behind it which
separates it from my
contents page photo and
then it also advertises my
magazines website. I think
this is good because it
informs the reader that the
magazine has a website
and it also shows that it is a
multi format company.
• This is a normal convention
found on many music
magazines and that is why I
have used it on mine as I
want it to be as realistic as
possible
10. SOCIAL MEDIA BOX
• This goes against the
convention of most
normal magazines as
not all typical
magazines have this
on them however I
thought it would
improve my magazine
by offering another
feature and it also
gets the reader
interacted in the
magazine which will
make them feel more
involved.
11. ARTICLE PAGE
• I feel having many forms
and conventions on my
article page is important
because they can often
have lots of text on them
which can become very
boring to the reader so by
adding to this it can make
it more interesting and
also engage the reader
more in to the magazine.
12. COLUMNS
• I have used columns
in my article which
helps spread the
article across the
two pages and
spaces it out more,
in addition to this I
have added a black
graphic behind the
questions in my
article to break it
up, And also make
it more aesthetically
pleasing to the eye.
Columns
13. PHOTOSHOOT IMAGE
• Another convention I have
added to my article is another
photo shoot image but I have
reduced the opacity as I
wanted the main center of
attention for this article to be
the text. I wanted to include
the image of my artists as it
shows the reader who the
article is about and also the
image includes eye contact
and is a close up of my
selected artist.
• Having the image as a close
up this could have some
connotations that by reading
this article it wills bring the
reader close to the artist by
reading the information on
them as well as showing them
what he looks like.
Photoshoot image of my
artist.
14. PULL QUOTE
• I have included a pull
quote on my article page,
this gives a small
introduction to the reader
about what the article is
about but however it
could also leave them
wanting to read on and
find out more so this will
make them read the
article.
15. CHALLENGES
I have used images throughout my
magazine and I haven't included
any videos or songs which
challenges the conventions
however for example on my
contents I have included a QR
code which can be scanned by any
smart phone and it will
immediately bring up a song or
music video.
