1. Last edits and assessment of
my final movie magazine front
cover
2. In order to use imagery to sell an article as I had seen people do before
in my magazine research I inserted a white rectangle to place it on. This
was done using the rectangle tool. This also filled the space that many on
my feedback described as sparse.
3. I then inserted the image over the white rectangle like so,
positioning it in the centre so the white rectangle looks like a
border for it. This image was taken from my possible front cover
imagery.
4. I then used the text tool to write over the top of the image- ‘get behind
the scenes with Jacob.’ This was done in the same font as many of the
other front cover articles to maintain uniform.
5. Finally I got rid of the grain on my image so that it had the better
quality seen on the film poster.
7. Clear and prominent title that
asserts the topic of the magazine.
The subtext and main title work
well together. The red rectangle
means that the title can be inserted
onto any following magazines
meaning the brand is maintained.
Imagery is used to make the
reader want to look inside the
magazine. Movie enthusiasts
love visuals and this serves as a
way to pull in potential buyers.
The barcode adds a sealing of quality and
professionality as it is seen on all movie
magazines and magazines in general.
Large clear image which
dominates the page drawing the
attention of readers. It is focussed
on a solo actor as many of the
magazines I look at are.
Furthermore using the same
imagery as the poster ensures
audience’s recognising it.
Movie title in the same font
as the poster in order to
create unity and trigger the
memories and intrigue of
those who have seen the
poster or trailer. It is clear
and easily readable.
Bullet pointed articles make them clear and
accessible to the reader. Meaning they are
more easily drawn in to looking inside the
magazine
8. Successes:
• Images: Those who watch movies or are movie enthusiasts are drawn to imagery.
In every magazine I saw the actor was dominantly positioned on the front of the
magazine. This was the same with my magazine, the text and masthead not
detracting too much from it. Furthermore I tried to also sell my articles to the
reader using imagery. This can be seen in the ‘behind the scenes with Jacob’ I feel
both these methods will be successful in attracting readers to my magazine.
• Articles: I think the bullet points worked well to space out the articles and pull
people in. Furthermore the ‘movie that’s swept the world’ plays into informative
social influence which theory suggests- people need to be right so conform to a
majority they think have better information. So if movie is extremely popular
then people are more lively to watch it.
• Masthead: The masthead is easily readable an recognisable which works to
create an identity for many more magazines to come. Additionally while there is
no precedent for it in movie magazines styles like it can be seen in the Q
magazine.
• Professionality: The combination of pricing and barcode works well to bring a
professional touch and the switch from photoshop to the InDesign software was
certainly crucial for this also.
9. Room for improvement?
• My only issue would be the lack of additional articles and the position
of the masthead. However this had to sacrificed for the central image
to look as striking and impactful as possible. In my research imagery
played a crucial role in pulling in audience’s and for this reason I
believe leaving the magazine as it is, is acceptable.
