Question 1
1. Question 1:
In what ways does your
media product use, develop
or challenge forms and
conventions of real media
products?
By Laura Bryan
2. Inspiration?
If I could compare our opening to any other real media product I would say it is
similar to the popular classic E.T, my film opening and E.T both include children
and aliens. Because E.T was such a great film we thought that this would be a
great narrative to use and develop. We have developed this by instead of NIF
being a friendly alien, he's not... If our narrative was to similar to E.T I think that
the public would not want to watch our updated version because they would
already know what was going to happen.
3. Challenging real media products
• When looking at film openings for ideas, I found that stereotypical Sci-Fi films such as Jurassic Park
and Matrix were predictable. For my film opening I didn’t want the audience to expect what was
going to happen.
• we have challenged real media products by breaking away from stereotypical alien films by not
having fancy costumes like Star Wars. Nevertheless, we have based our film opening to today's
society, some Sci-Fi films are based on the future due to the expectations of the public view of how
the future would look like.
4. Opening scene
• Our opening scene introduces Jenny straight away. We only have
Jenny in the film opening due to her being the main character.
• Looking at other film openings such as Sweeny Todd, Tim Burton
only gives away some of what the film is about. We took this on
board and explain the back ground of the film ( if we were to the
whole film ). This would give the audience the information they
needed to work out why Jenny was going back to find NIF.
5. Sci-FI
• In our opening our sub genre is not obvious. But this is
done purposely due to we want to steer away from
stereotypical alien films. So by adding small hints such
as green filter when the POV shot from NIF.
