The document discusses the conventions and forms used in the media product's design. It primarily uses conventional forms common to magazines, such as a bold masthead, left-justified cover lines, larger main cover line linked to the main image, footer summarizing contents, date and issue number in top right, page numbers, multiple images on contents page, anchors linking to photos, subheadings ordering features, larger bold title, pull quotes, and balanced text/image ratio in double page articles. Some conventions are challenged, such as placing the date above the masthead and using a large background letter. The document analyzes the product's adherence to and challenging of magazine design conventions.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

1. Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
I have used a bold font across the top of my
magazine for the masthead. This is
conventional and most magazines do this as it
gets the audiences attention
I have put my cover lines on the
left hand side which is another
conventional form. This is
commonly used as when
magazines are stacked in the
shops you can only see the left
hand side therefore it is
important to have cover lines
there that will make the readers
want to buy the magazine.
The main cover line is in a larger font compared to
the other cover lines. This makes it obvious to the
reader what the main articles is about in this
months issue. Furthermore the main cover line links
to the main image on the front cover.
2. Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
I decided to place the date and issue number
above the masthead which challenges conventions
as they are usually placed above the barcode.
The main image is in a
medium close up. Many
magazines use a MCU
shot so that you can see
the persons facial
expression.
I have decided to use a pug
which gets the audience
attention without
distracting them from the
masthead, image and main
cover line which id more
important. However not all
magazines use pugs.
I have used a footer which is also conventional
as it quickly summarises what will be in the
magazine.
3. Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
The date and issue number is in the top
right hand corner. This is a conventional
form that I have used so that the reader
knows whether it is a recent issue or not.
Each feature has a page
number. This is a
conventional form that
most magazines use as it is
then easy for the reader to
locate whatever article they
are looking for.
I have used more than
one image on the
contents page which is a
convention that music
magazines use.
4. Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
Many contents pages have
anchors to the photographs,
as a further guide as to finding
the page the reader is looking
for.
It is also a convention of
music magazines to have
subheading to order the
features and help the reader
find what they are looking
for.
5. Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
The large letter in the background
challenges conventions as usually the
background for the article is plain so that it
easy to read. However the large ‘S’ makes
the page more interesting .
It is conventional of magazines to use
columns for the article
A conventional form is to put
an anchor on the photo to
give credit to the
photographer.
.
6. Question 1. In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms
and conventions of real media products?
The title is in a larger and bold font
which is a conventional form to get the
readers attention.
A pull quote is conventional as it
intrigues the reader into reading the
whole article. The quote is usually in
bold and in a larger font to the rest of
the article.
A double page article is usually 50% text
and 50% image. This balances the page
out and makes it more manageable to
read. This conventional form makes the
article look more professional.
