• On-demand ‘syndicated’ audio (RSS feed)
• “TIVO for your ears”
• Three main types of podcast
1. The expert (or author) reading into the
microphone
2. Interviews (on the phone or in person)
3. Groups (classes, seminars, presentations)
6. Why Podcast?
• Branding – be heard above the noise
– Broadcast expertise – niche yourself
– “Radio Show”

• The voice not the pen
• Minimal time investment – 30 minutes
• Zero cost

Editor's Notes
I caught up with Alan Stevens at the National Speakers Association Influence ’11 Convention in Anaheim and asked him to demonstrate the hardware and software he carries with him on the road. He demonstrated the portable studio set-up he uses to create his web radio show.
Watch this brief video where Alan demonstrates the set-up and shared the tools he uses:
Blue Snowball USB microphone
Audacity software
Creative Labs Vado HD camera

YouTube accounts are part of your Google account, so you will need to create a Google account if you don’t have one already. Each Google account can have one channel attached to it. If you want to create multiple channels, you will need to create multiple Google accounts.
The channel will be named the same as your Google+ profile. If you don’t want your channel to display your real name, you will need to create a separate Google account.
Increase your subscribers. If you work hard to create good content and promote it well, you can quickly increase your subscribers, and maybe even start making some money from advertisements. Interact with the community, upload videos often, and work to curate your brand.
After getting the visuals in place, click the “About” tab on your channel’s home page. Three buttons will appear in this section to guide the further development of your YouTube account.
Channel description: In this text box, enter a punchy description of your brand or the type of content that you plan on sending out.
Links: This section helps you connect YouTube to your other online profiles. You can select whether to display links overlaid on the cover photo and how many links will appear there. It also lets you decide whether or not to show how many views your channel has, and when you created the account.
The video manager is the place to go to manage all of your content. There are also a few unique features that can be found on this page.
The ability to live-stream a life event
A place to go to create video playlists
A tab to access your search history
A tab that shows you all of the videos you’ve liked
As you upload more and more videos, be sure to take advantage of the ability to create playlists.
YouTube has a robust analytics suite. Just like with most aspects of marketing your business, using this data can help decide what kind of content that you want to produce. Here are some of the things key things you can look at:
Audience Demographics
Playback Locations
Traffic Sources
Devices Watched From
Audience Retention
15,041 minutes = 250 hrs watched
Laura’s second major money-spinner uses a green screen studio at home to record compelling video tutorials. Again, she shared a step-by-step guide.
Purchase a green screen backdrop or paint the wall of your spare room with the appropriate paint.
Make sure you have a suitable HD digital camera and tripod and a 64-bit desktop computer.
Sign up for a community college class so you qualify for the student edition of the Adobe Premiere or Adobe visual communicator software package.
Purchase a GoSpeak portable microphone system with a wireless transmitter for a lapel mike. (You don’t need the speakers, they are an added bonus for your next podium presentation.)
Hire a designer from elance or fiverr.com to create custom backgrounds for your green screen.
Place posters with cartoon faces around the room you record in so that you have an “audience” to relate to.
Record your video training: stand in front of the green screen, plug the wireless mic into the camera which feeds audio and video to the PC where the Adobe software records a timeline of the presentation. In post-production you add lower thirds and a suitable backdrop. Leave pauses for group activity and learner response.
Distribute these large video files to customers who purchase via YouSendIt.com or, if they require, burn a DVD and mail it.
