Development of Nutraceuticals & functional foodsEkta Belwal
“Nutraceuticals” & “Health food” shops has grown enormously, fostered by wide media coverage of their benefits. There has been a boom in their sales as patients rush to self-medicate, either in the hope that these products will be effective in treating diseases unsatisfactorily treated with pharmaceuticals, or that the adverse effects of some pharmaceuticals may be avoided.

This presentation consists of different types of foods that can be incorporated in diets to improve the health conditions in diseases -Cancer, Diabetes Mellitus and Cardio vascular diseases.
Foods and nutrients play a very important role in normal functioning of the body. They are helpful in maintaining the health of the individual and in reducing the risk of various diseases. Worldwide acceptance of nutraceuticals formed a relation between "nutrition" and "health" and therefore the concept of "Nutraceuticals" was evolved . In recent years, a new diet health paradigm is evolving which places more emphasis on the positive aspects of diet. The new lifestyle adopted by people today has changed the basic food habits of the latter. Consumption of the junk food has increased manifold leading to a number of diseases caused due to improper nutrition. Obesity is now recognized as a global issue. Heart disease continues to be a primary cause of death in most of the developing countries worldwide, followed by cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis and many others. Consumers being frustrated with the expensive, high-tech, disease-treatment approach in the modern medicines are seeking complementary or alternative beneficial products in the form of nutraceuticals.
Nutraceuticals are the emerging class of natural products that makes the line between food and drugs to fade .Nutraceutical is the hybrid of ‘nutrition’ and ‘pharmaceutical’. Nutraceuticals, in broad, are food or part of food playing a significant role in modifying and maintaining normal physiological function that maintains healthy human beings. The principal reasons for the growth of the nutraceutical market worldwide are the current population and the health trends. The food products used as nutraceuticals can be categorized as dietary fibre, prebiotics, probiotics, polyunsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants and other different types of herbal foods.
The nutraceuticals facilitate in combating the key health complications of the century such as obesity, cardiovascular diseases, cancer, osteoporosis, arthritis, diabetes, cholesterol etc. In whole, ‘nutraceutical’ has led to the new era of medicine and health, in which the food industry has become a research oriented sector.

Nutritional fact, Intoxication and Therapeutic Aspects of Pennisetum sps (Bajara): A Review
In the modern era, various illnesses have been managed or treated in Africa and other parts of the world using plants as a source of medication.
An estimated 80% of the world's population uses herbal plants to cure and control serious illnesses, according to a WHO report .
Apart from traditional drugs, herbal foods are currently under focus for the treatment of obesity, Mets, T2DM, and NAFLD.
Grains such as oats, quinoa, and barley are reported to have anti-hyperglycemic, anti-hyperlipidemic, and anti-inflammatory effects on humans and rats
pearl millet (Pennisstum glaucum) is a multifunctional cereal crop which belongs to the Poaceae family.
It is generally referred to in various local Indian languages as bajra, bajri, sajje, kambu, kamban, sajjalu, etc.
It is widely used for food and forages . Pearl millet is the third largest major crop after rice and wheat.
Excess acidity in the stomach following food consumption is the most important explanation for stomach ulcers.
Generally, pearl millet is suggested for stomach ulcer treatment, because it is one of the very few grains that alkalizes the stomach and prevents stomach ulcers or decreases the effect of ulcers
Pearl millet helps to keep blood sugar levels stable for a long time in diabetic patients.
It is also helpful for diabetes patients because it has a comparatively small glycaemic index that helps steadily digest and contain glucose at a slower pace than other foods.
The amylase activity of pearl millet is very high, about 10 times than that of wheat.
Generally pearl millet is classified as a low-glycaemic index (GI) food because of its high fibre and protein content.
Lignin and phytonutrients are good antioxidants in pearl millets that prevent cardiovascular diseases.
Pearl millet is also considered healthy for heart protection. There have been high levels of magnesium present in pearl millet, which regulates blood pressure and alleviates heart stress.
It has rich magnesium that decreases the incidence of respiratory symptoms in asthma patients and is also helpful in preventing migraine attacks.
Pearl millet has high phosphorus content which is very important for bone growth and development as well as for the production of ATP, the body’s energy currency.
As millets are known to reduce the risk of cancer, it is expected that pearl millet will have the same effect potentially due to its high content in magnesium and phylate compound.
The greatest obstacle facing people who wish to lose weight is to regulate their con- sumption of calories. Pearl millet will support the weight loss process because the fibre content is high.
Celiac disease is a disorder in which a person could not endure even a little gluten in the diet. Since millet is gluten-free, it is great for people with celiac disease
Pearl millet is widely recommended for people with elevated cholesterol levels. It comprises a phytoc

Lung Cancer: Artificial Intelligence, Synergetics, Complex System Analysis, S...Oleg Kshivets
RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.

oral diseases which include tooth decay and oral cancers [47, 48], dental
plaque and dental caries . The tea extract and fluoride in tea can prevent the
carcinogenic activity of oral bacteria such as Escherichia coli, Streptococcus
salivarius, and Streptococcus mutan

25. coffee
• here are many different coffee species, but two main ones are grown today
commercially for coffee production: Coffea arabica, known as Arabica coffee,
and Coffea canephora, known as Robusta coffee. It is estimated that 80% of
Americans consume caffeine-containing products every day and about 75%
of daily caffeine comes from coffee consumption. Dried ripe seeds of a
coffee plant are a source of caffeine and are used as a stimulant, nerve tonic
and diuretic.
• Caffeine acts on the central nervous system, kidneys, heart, and the muscles.
Today, coffee and caffeine can be found in many products other than
beverages. Caffeine is also available as an isolate in capsules or tablets.
• Overconsumption can lead to diarrhea, rapid heart beat and sleeplessness.
Recent research has revealed that coffee has many chemicals and
antioxidants that are thought to have implications on human health;
including caffeine, micronutrients, LDL cholesterols and chlorogenic acid.
The antioxidants in coffee may Caffeine is the world’s offer protection
against most frequently cardiovascular disease and consumed drug and one
inflammatory diseases in post- of the earliest ergogenic menopausal women
by aids (something that reducing inflammation. improves muscular work).
26. The best known compound in coffee is caffeine. Caffeine binds to
a chemical in the central nervous system that has a suppressive
effect. Therefore, the system is stimulated due to lack of the
suppressive chemical.
The following are typical changes seen in individuals after drinking
coffee: increased blood pressure, metabolic rate, heart rate and
alertness. Heart Disease According to early studies on the
relationship between coffee and heart disease, coffee drinking
was associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular events.
However, several recent large studies have found that coffee
drinking has a protective effect against cardio- vascular disease.
Occasional coffee drinkers are at a greater risk for myocardial
infarction after consuming coffee than regular coffee drinkers.
Coffee exerts a short term increase in blood pressure and overall
metabolism.
27. Those who are regular coffee consumers tend to have lower
body mass index and waist circumference.
Physical activity Caffeine ingestion has been found to increase
the utilization of intramuscular and/or extramuscular fat while
sparing carbohydrate use, thereby increasing exercise time.
Many studies have assessed the exercise responses of well-
trained endurance athletes, well-trained weight trained athletes
and non-athletes to various doses of caffeine.
Caffeine has been found to have an ergogenic effect under most
conditions, whether increasing duration or distance, or ability to
increase muscle strength.
Coffee drinking also raises blood cholesterol levels. However,
coffee is not a trigger for cardiovascular events even with heavy
coffee drinkers. Coffee increases fat oxidation throughout the
body and decreases fat storage.
