The document discusses the importance of protecting tropical rainforests, coral reefs, and mangrove swamps, which provide habitat for many species and serve various ecological functions. It describes some of the biodiversity found in these ecosystems in the Philippines and ways people can help conserve them, such as controlling pollution, sustainable fishing practices, and raising awareness of environmental issues. The document also includes several interactive activities for learners to reinforce the material.

species composition of intertidal marine macroalgae in san francisco canaoay,...INFOGAIN PUBLICATION
The Philippines occupy the north of coral triangle, a huge area overlapping the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean, and is famous for its extremely rich marine biodiversity. The taxonomical study of seaweeds started on the year 1750 and towards the end of the 20th century[1]. In Ilocos Sur, a comprehensive study on the marine benthic algae was made by Domingo in 1988.In this study, he reported 103 species, with 91 species reported for the first time for the province[2].As to this date, no taxonomical study made in San Francisco-Canaoay. This study used site description, Exhaustive Line Transect Method. The macroalgae recorded in San Francisco-Canaoay in the open area of the coastlines includeone genus&sevenspecies of Phaeophyta, one genus&one species of Chlorophyta, and one genus &nine species of Rhodophyta. The larger number of Rhodophyta can be attributed to the presence of abundant nutrients in the area and the luminosity of light of 35, 000 Lux value, which was favorable for the photosynthetic macroalgae. The specimens identified,58% were Phaeophyta, 34% were Chlorophyta, and 8% were Rhodophyta. There were more red algaes (Rhodophyta) in the open area due to the nature of these plant-like protists to thrive in running water with many nutrients. The number of brown algaes (phaeophyta) are not affected by the conditions of the water because of their toughness as compared to the aforementioned nature of red algaes[3].
The Indian economy is classified into different sectors to simplify the analysis and understanding of economic activities. For Class 10, it's essential to grasp the sectors of the Indian economy, understand their characteristics, and recognize their importance. This guide will provide detailed notes on the Sectors of the Indian Economy Class 10, using specific long-tail keywords to enhance comprehension.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.

3. The Philippines is a part of the Coral
Triangle, the center for marine
biodiversity. Tubbataha reef is located
in the southeast of Puerto Princesa City
in Palawan. It is considered as the best
dive spot in the Philippines and was
recently nominated as one of the New
Seven Wonders of the Natural World.
This marine protected area is a home
to bountiful wealth of marine
biodiversity.
4. Coral reefs are habitat for marine
animals. A coral reef is a house for
about 3,000 species of corals and
other marine animals. Coral reefs
also provide a rich source of
marine food for humans and also
serve as livelihood for others. Coral
reefs are wave resistant
underwater ridges so they act as
wave breakers.
5. It makes the impact of typhoons less on
coastal areas. They also serve as
science laboratories for many biologists
and geologists. Coral reefs also provide
medicinal products and other resources
that include corals, shells, ornaments
and materials for road and building
construction. Lastly, places where they
have beautiful and colorful coral reefs
become tourist’s attraction.
6. Mangrove swamps, like the coral
reefs also serve as home to a large
variety of fish, crab, shrimp, and
mollusk species. Mangrove trees
are good source of timber and plant
products. The wood of a mangrove
is valuable because it is insect
resistant and does not rot.
7. This wood is used for construction
material, firewood, woodchips and
many more. Medicinal plants can also
be found in a mangrove ecosystem.
Mangrove also protects the coastal
areas. The roots of the mangrove trap
sediments flowing from rivers. These
trapped sediments prevent soil
erosion. Some mangrove forests have
been a destination for some tourists.
8. Rainforests have a very important role
in absorbing carbon dioxide and producing
oxygen on which all of us including the
animals, depends for survival. They are
often called as the lungs of the planet.
Rainforests provide a home to many plants
and animals and different medicine and
foods can also be found in a rainforest.
Rainforests maintain the water cycle and
protect against flood, drought and erosion.
They also serve as an interesting place to
visit.
9. Guide Question:
After knowing the
importance of coral reefs,
mangroves and rainforest,
what can you do to
conserve and protect
them?
11. Coral Reefs
1. Logging activities must be controlled to help
protect the coral reefs. It also lessens the
global warming and controls siltation.
2. Industrial/ agricultural waste control is also a
way of to save the coral reefs. Clean, clear,
nutrient free water is needed by corals to survive.
If coastal water is not polluted, there will be
enough oxygen for the marine life in the coral
reefs.
12. Coral Reefs
3. Seagrass bed protection is seagrass and marine plants
that help secure the ocean bottom.
4. Fishermen must use proper fishing techniques to help
protect the coral reefs. Activities such as dynamite
fishing, muro ami and cyanide fishing must not be
allowed because these activities destroy the habitat of
marine life.
5. Siltation control must be prevented to protect the coral
reefs and save them from dying. Siltation occurs when
eroded soil from denuded mountains form silts deposits in
the sea and bury the corals.
13. Mangroves
1. Clearing of mangrove forests for agricultural
reasons, building houses and infrastructure like
piers, industrial zones, aquaculture and many
more should be prohibited to lessen too much
mangrove loss. Overharvesting of mangrove trees
should also be avoided.
2. Overfishing must be controlled because it can
affect the balance of the food chains in the
mangrove fish population.
14. Mangroves
3. Coral reefs must be protected because they are
the first barriers against strong waves. If the
strong waves will reach the coast where there are
mangroves, it can affect the fine sediments where
mangroves grow.
4. Pollutants like pesticides, fertilizers, sewage and
other toxic-materials that are carried by water
going to the mangrove forest should be prevented
and minimized because this can kill animals living
in it, while pollution from oil spills bring harmful
effects to the roots of the mangroves.
15. Rainforests
1. Everyone must know the importance of
the environment and how they can help to
protect and conserve rainforests.
2. Help restore ecosystems by planting
trees. It could be on any land where forests
are denuded.
3. People should be encouraged to be
environment-friendly in their way of living.
