PROPOSAL Jessica Southgate
I have decided to create a magazine which features a few different
genres but mainly indie, rock, and alternative. I have chosen this style
of magazine as I believe it will be popular amongst many different
people rather than just one group. This will increase the target
audience and more people would buy the magazine as their would be
more of a range of artists. I would like my magazine to be similar to Q
as this is a very popular magazine and features the same genres as
mine would. The purpose of my magazine is mainly to inform music
fans of the latest news in the industry and on upcoming tours,
albums, singles etc. Although I also want it to include older artists
and bands like Q does.
OVERVIEW
TARGET AUDIENCE
My primary audience would be the
people who buy magazines every
week, the magazine would be aimed
at 16-30 year olds of both genders
who enjoy going to festivals and
concerts. Also, generally younger
people care more about what is going
on in the music industry and would
want to keep up with their favourite
artists and bands.
My secondary audience would be the
older generation as I would like to
include older artists in my magazine
and not just all new things. People
over 30 who collect magazines would
enjoy my magazine as there would be
limited editions with whole
magazines based on just one artists,
which could be worth a lot of money
if they were kept for a long time.
FREQUENCY
I would like to produce my magazine
monthly because I believe this would give
it a more professional vibe. Also this would
allow the producers more time to actually
make the magazine and it would have a lot
more content than if it was published
weekly as obviously more things happen in
a month than in a week. A month would
give us more time to produced a more
structured, detailed magazine with many
different features.
CONTENT
In my magazine I would include articles with
many well-known artists and bands but also
new, up and coming bands to make it more
interesting. I also want to include lots of
different shots of the artists included in my
magazine to help the audience identify more
with them.
I would also like to include weekly features
such as “top 25 songs of the month,” quizzes
and competitions where you can win tickets
to gigs and festivals.
Also whenever big festivals such as
Glastonbury or Reading and Leeds are on, I
would like to have a limited edition version of
the magazine which just includes pictures
and interviews with the line up.
