Working Title:
What is it called? This can change if you think of something better later
There is an ancient China, historical place called The Forbidden City. Translated into Chinese, it is
紫禁城 – the game will be called The Forbidden City. But have the Chinese translation
underneath, as it is inspired and set in ancient China.
Audience:
My audience is for 16-19 year olds. There will be elements of violence but no real-time deaths,
when an enemy is shot, they will flash and disappear. I won’t include gruesome blood splatters or
shots, to keep the game at an appropriate level. This means that it is suitable for younger children
as well as teenagers. There will be minimal gruesome violence, keeping it family friendly for all
ages/genders, making a diverse game for all. It will be for gamers and non-gamers, as it
progressive and doesn’t need too much attention to play, as it is simple concept. My product would
appeal to this age group as it is a mobile game, perfect for those who enjoy playing handheld
games. Teenagers are over stereotyped to spend the most time on their phones – its true, we are
lucky enough to have had them at our fingertips. It will be available at any time of day for those to
use, just at a swipe of a finger.
Rationale (approx. 100 words)
Throughout my time at college, my skills with Photoshop has drastically improved. I can use
Photoshop comfortably and confidently, which will help me create the best video game I can.
Being able to understand the different tools, such as a simple eyedropper or a blur tool to make my
background look more in-depth, the small things will help me create the best game I can.
My advergame was created in the style that I want my final product to be, so I will use that as
inspiration. I will use the same technique for the background but use a different design (ancient
China) to create the likeness of The Forbidden City.
Project Concept (approx. 200 words)
The concept for my project, is to create a scroll background game inspired by The Forbidden City
and ancient China. It will include a main character who has to battle through to The Forbidden City,
to save the Sacred Scroll and the rest of China. There will be enemies trying to stop her from
completing this mission, including people, smaller obstacles and smaller dragon like creatures, all
trying to defend the Scroll.
I will create a 1200 width background, then tween it with 25 slides, to make the cuts as little as
possible to make it look fast and realistic. The background will consist of two or three houses
repeated in a long line across the width, making it easy to make. I will have to make 3 sequences
for the all the characters (walking sequence, standing and combat).
I will have to research the architecture of ancient China, along with traditional Chinese soldier
outfits and street styles. This will help me construct a realistic background, whilst being respectful
to Chinese culture.
Evaluation (approx. 50 words)
When evaluating my work, I will have a copy of my plan next to me, to see how loyal I have stuck
to it and how well it has gone. If it has improved, I will see what extras I could have added, and if it
has taken a different turn, I will look at my planning and how I could have kept it more open and
non-restricting.
