Alienation And Anomie Essay
Both concepts of alienation and anomie signify how individualism has impacted the social structures
through industrialization and the division of labour. Both Marx and Durkheim s theories emphasize
the relationships between people in society and how this impacts on separateness and individualism
within it; however, both theories are different. Where Marx is concerned he focuses on being alienated
as a result of materialized matter through the bourgeoisie alienating oneself from culture, for
Durkheim anomie is due to the lack of a collective conscience within society preventing both
regulation and integration of culture; for Durkheim this negatively impacts on social solidarity and
cohesion. Alienation occurred after the periods of slavery and serfdom arose a capitalist society,
workers selling their labour skills in order to earn a living wage. In comparison to feudal societies
where wealth was inherited, capitalist societies through the bourgeoisie was about owning the means
of production enabling them to own private property and this being wealth. However, the cost price of
the goods produced was significantly higher than the labourer s wages resulting in a profit for the
bourgeoisie, this being the method of attaining wealth. The capitalist mode of production generates its
wealth through exploitation of the proletariat. Karl Marx (1970) stated ...the accumulation of wealth at
one pole of society involves a simultaneous accumulation of poverty, labour torment, slavery,

The Electric Telegraph Invented By Samuel Morse
One of the earliest inventions of communication was the electric telegraph invented by Samuel Morse.
This device used electrical signals to transmit messages. The telegraph played a significant role in
transmitting messages over long spaces. Its usage was in Law enforcement, army and newspapers.
Even so, anyone could post messages using a telegram via a service. Today, there are roughly three
principal methods of measuring the velocity of data contagion. Baud rate (signaling events per
minute), BPS (bits per Sec) and CPS (characters per minute). The fact is, today the baud rate has been
substituted with a more precise unit of measurement.
Telephones are most mutual and are ground in almost every home and organizations. Telephones
worked by using a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). This is where copper wires carry an
analogue voice signal. Analogue means a device or organization in which the value of a data point
represented by a continuously varying physical quantity which can be quantified. An example is a
watch that shows time with hands on a dial rather than numbers on an LCD screen. In an analogue
telephone system, the audio signal is converted into electronic pulses. This creates vibrations in the
handset s speaker that can be picked up by the person listening.
Nevertheless, in a digital telephone. The audio signal is converted into binary format. The binary
format consists of groups of 0 s and 1 s. The audio signal is sampled thousands of times a second and

Job satisfaction, the most widely studied work attitude, is then discussed. We look at job satisfaction
among Canadians, the effects of job satisfaction on work behaviour, and new findings regarding the
relationship between job satisfaction and employee performance and customer satisfaction. The next
section provides an overview of organizational commitment, including the types of commitment,
consequences of commitment, and ways to build affective commitment. Organizational commitment
is strongly influenced by trust and the psychological contract, so the final section of this chapter looks
at the meaning and elements of both concepts. EMOTIONS IN THE WORKPLACE The tragic events
of September 11, 2001, in the United States are permanently etched in our minds. The four hijacked

Should Australia Use Nuclear Powered Submarines
The concept of a submersible boat has existed since the late 1500s, with the first working submarine
constructed in 1623 by Cornelius Drebbel (Harris 2015). Since then the complexity of submarine
technology has greatly evolved, largely due to funding by various militaries across the world. The first
two Australian Submarines were commissioned in 1914 and deployed during World War 1, with both
submarines lost during the conflict (Australian Submarine Corporation n.d.). As of 2015 the Royal
Australian Navy s submarine fleet consists of 6 Collins class submarines, but arrangements are being
made by the Government for a new state of the art submarine fleet to be constructed (McPhedran
2014). Although one of the specifications that the government has stated about their planned
submarines is that they cannot be nuclear powered, this investigation will look into whether this
guideline is necessary or suitable for the next generation of Australian submarines. The focus question
for this investigation is Would it be beneficial for Australia to acquire and use Nuclear Powered
Submarines? Submarines require a great deal of energy in order to propel itself while out at sea,
energy which is generally provided by a reactor. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In particular the amount of time a nuclear submarine can remain submerged is far superior to that of a
non nuclear powered submarine. A diesel fuelled submarine is capable of remaining submerged for
approximately one month before needing to re emerge above water, conversely a nuclear powered
submarine is capable of remaining underwater indefinitely, with the only limiting factors being the
limitations of the crew (Friedman 2011). As a result nuclear powered submarines are capable of
spending a greater amount of time on reconnaissance missions without the need to refuel or resurface

My Mind Is Playing Tricks On You
Your mind is Playing Tricks on You There are so many topics people question about the world.
Whether its conspiracy theories, superstitions, ghost, religion or even supernatural experiences.
Everybody has their own beliefs. Why don t we all just believe in one... Logic! People are scared to
question what they believe, because they never really know if it s real or fake, so they might as well
do the right thing just in case . Why don t they test their theories to actually really find out for
themselves? Honestly, one can be scared of the truth which is why they avoid it, but anything can be
proven logically. Religion, or more concise, prayer is the main topic around the world. Everyone has
different beliefs, and believe in different or many Gods. Are they all real? Probably not. Many can say
that prayer works, but fail to see both sides of the story. The bible for instance, one can agree that they
re many verse to imply that pray works. If it does not work than the bible either tells you you don t
have enough faith or god has other plans . Although, there are some instances that prayer has been said
to work it really cannot be proven. People believe in the bible so much. It is a book written thousands
of years ago. It could easily be paraphrased just like a story your family tells you from a long time
ago, and start adding their own input and by the time it gets to your ears it s a whole new story that
never happened. Traditionally the religion family members have is

Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment 1 Bridge
Bridge:
Bridge is a simple device that aids in interconnecting similar LAN s between local area networks that
use identical protocols for the physical and data link layers in accordance with the IEEE 802.3
standards. As the devices connected to the bridge use the same protocols, the amount of processing
required is minimal. Nowadays, routers are used more commonly to interconnect LAN s as bridges are
Layer 2 devices and pose almost no security while the router is a Layer 3 device and offers better Data
Security.
Routers:
Paraphrasing (Stallings, 2007) the function of routers is to get the packet to a destination network. The
router reads the header created by the Network Layer of the protocol stack on the source computer.
The router can be configured to filter by protocol, source ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Switch:
According to (Burke, 2004),A switch is a multiport bridge. When a switch receives a frame (A data
packet with address and other protocol information embedded), it amplifies the signal, looks at the
MAC address to determine which port should retransmit the frame to get it to the intended network
device and sends it to that port. The switch can be configured to disconnect any attached device, to
discard frames intended for an attached device, to send frames with a specific hardware address to
another hardware address instead and to copy a frame to a mirror port which can send it to an attached
traffic monitor.
Network Interface Card:
Every Computer that connects to a network must have a Network Interface Card (NIC). Most new
Computers have them built into the motherboard. It has one or sometimes more RJ45 socket(s) that
connect to a modem. The older and deprecated version used to have RJ11 sockets to connect to the
network. Due to it being extremely vulnerable to phreaking and war dialing, it has now been replaced

The Rise Of The 19th Century
The 19th century was a time of great innovation and rapid industrialization. The industry of iron and
steel was generating new construction materials, while railroads were being connected across the
United States. But one of the most used resources in the world now was discovered, oil as a source of
fuel. In 1901, a gigantic geyser of oil erupted from a drilling site at Spindletop Hill, Texas. The spout
reached a height of more than 150 feet and produced close to 100,000 barrels a day. This was the most
powerful gusher ever seen before by the world. Soon a thriving oil industry formed around the oil
field at Spindletop. Many of our current oil companies can trace their roots back there, such as Gulf
Oil, Texaco and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Even better than expansion it would aid in the development of airplanes and automobiles. By the late
20th century, oil refining, chemicals and petrochemicals continued to dominate Texas industry, though
electronics, aerospace and other high tech fields had increased in importance. (staff H. , Oil companies
get a bad reputation, but within reason. When you hear people speak of them they may be referred to
as those damn corporations . However, they are extremely important for our economy, they provide
the energy that fuels our world. But with great importance has to come great responsibility. The major
oil companies are not exactly admirable when it comes to human rights, pollution, or general
corporate responsibility. These companies violate human rights all over the world, they aren t
concerned about the environment and more so then less show a lack of corporate responsibility. Of
course the oil giants aren t the only ones dealing with resentment and controversy from the general
public. They are however they most target and recognized for it. (Bhandari, 2014) ExxonMobil is the
top contender for the worst offences, when it comes to ethical issues. They are known for blatant
disregard of corporate responsibility, the rights of humans, and environmental conservation. When it
comes to environmental affairs they are number 6 for the highest contributors of airborne pollutants.

A Crucifixion Outside The City Of Jerusalem
This painting depicts a crucifixion outside the city of Jerusalem, discernible by the centrally planned
church and rounded red rotunda in the background of the city. Rounded structures that resemble
towers align the walls of the city, another definitive element of the biblical city. Although the painting
clearly represents an idealized Jerusalem, it emulates a contemporary European town of the Northern
Renaissance age, with Gothic architecture and what resembles shops at the front of the city. The
painter also depicts the mountainous terrain of Jerusalem, but portrays greenery that the actual desert
city would not have. The contemporary background makes the painting less abstract and more
relatable to the viewer. The overall composition of the painting is naturalistic: emphasized by the light
and shadow on the figures, the use of three dimensions, and the additional details in the clothes of the
figures. The body on the cross demonstrates the most amount of modeling. The face and legs of the
person are covered by shadow, while the light hits the left side of the body at the chest the most. Also,
there is an attention to showcasing three dimensions: the objects towards the back of the painting get
smaller, while the objects in the front are larger. The three dimensions frame the picture, and create a
sense of directly looking into the scene from a front viewer. Lastly, the folding and drapery of the
clothing accentuate the naturalism of the painting by looking similar to

King Corn Food Analysis
I can truly say that I have never been as disgusted researching and writing a paper than I am writing
one about the production and growth of food. In a previous course, I had to watch the documentary,
King Corn. Watching that film alone was an eye opener for me because it went into depth about how
80% of Americas antibiotics were used on cows because of being corn fed, but I never knew how
drastic the food industry was. Now that I have watched two drastic films and read the chapter on
Food, I feel as if I never want to eat food unless it is grown by me. With a growing population, there is
a demand for an increase in agriculture. After learning about the statistics of how much agriculture
consumes our planet, I was appalled to see how destructive it is. Jonathan Foley put into perspective
the increase and rapid demand for food. Agriculture alone consumes 40% of our land surface, 70% of
our irrigation system, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It has been taken over by large companies and marketed at high price. Our food is grown based on
demand, not on health. In the film, Food, Inc., the chickens and cows are raised to be slaughtered as
quick as possible. They are beefed up with feed that is full of antibiotics that become harmful for
digestion. The chicken that are raised are in small areas where they have never been exposed to
sunlight. There are plenty that die each day because of the conditions they are being kept in. The
chicken s organs cannot keep up with their growth, therefore, they cannot take two steps. Cows are
basically in the same situation as the chickens. They are being fed corn instead of grass and are
confined to small areas. Listening to the documentary about how the chances of cows being cleaned
before slaughtered is traumatizing. That is the food that we eat and how we are supposed to have our
intake of energy. If this is how the industry is treating the population we have today, I do not see much
difference for the population

Taking a Look at Experimental Music
Experimental music is a term that refers to the music in the twentieth century that experiment with
components of music and creating new avenues for the composition of music. In the later part of the
essay, more shall be discuss on the area of experimenting sound and technique. Stylistic features of
each piece such as harmony, texture, timbre, form etc, will be presented alongside with the examples
of music to allow a better understanding towards experimental music.
Charles Ives is an American composer which could be called as one of the founders of experimental
music as he was one of the earliest composers to look in to this avenue. His inspiration for
experimental music was from his father whom teaches him theory and composition. He encourages
Ives to go on the route of experimenting with sounds. Ives explored new techniques regarding
harmony, rhythm and form. Innovations could be seen throughout his composing career but at the
same time, he preserves some of the traditional rules. In his early stage of composing, he wrote several
polytonal pieces which means the use two or more keys in different layers in his music. Ex. Varations
on America. Several new techniques that has been tried out by Ives includes the system of using all
possible chords from a single tonic note creating chords from intervals 2nd, 3rd 4th and so on. Below
is the example taken from Processional. Another of the new technique is the use of rhythmic layers.
Ex. Scherzo: All the way around and back.

The Influence Of Living In A Small Town
Imagine growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone s business and the nearest Wal
Mart is almost an hour away; then imagine attending a school where the amount of student attending
is the same number of people who occupy a small town. The size difference is substantial and plays an
important role. When I was younger, I had attended both a small town school and a school in the city. I
have had the chance to experience the different lifestyles of these two variations of living. The
development of who I am today was because of my surroundings. In the city, I noticed there was
different opportunities. The opportunities seemed more readily available depending on funding and
sources; which are dependant on the location. Education, development, and opportunities are widely
known to be affected by environmental factors; thus, people who live in the city have a different
experience than those who reside in small towns.
There are many stereotypes associated with people who live in the city and people who live in a small
town. A lot of stereotypes lean towards people who grow up in a small town do not have the chance to
receive a finer education, or everyone who lives in the city are rude and arrogant. On contrary to these
stereotypes, people raised in a small town can receive an adequate education and not everyone who
lives in the city is rude. Personally, when I transferred from a middle school with a 1000 students to a
school who had roughly 300 students I noticed

Dynamic Characters In Things Fall Apart
The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.
These are the words of Socrates on change and the human energy it may take to embrace it. One
culture that experienced significant change was the Ibo culture and its people. The novel Things Fall
Apart, by Chinua Achebe, clearly demonstrates the changes that took place in the Ibo culture to a
Western audience. By following the life of many dynamic characters throughout the story, Achebe is
able show the reader what the Ibo culture entails. Characters play a dominating role in Chinua Achebe
s novel by displaying how one must change in order to survive in the evolving world. One of the most
dynamic characters in Achebe s novel is Okonkwo s son, Nwoye. From the beginning of the novel,

Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry Essay
A hollow feeling inside of your chest consumes your body. The room is filled with your sobs and
hiccuped breaths. A million thoughts are racing through your head; none of these are positive. You tell
yourself that you wish you never met them. You plea at the universe to take away all the memories of
them. You beg to never again feel this type of agony. If possible, would you eradicate the memory of
another human?
In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine
Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) do exactly this. Directed by Michel Gondry, this American romantic
comedy wonderfully expresses the idea that a person s memories are fundamental in human growth.
Through cinematography, lighting, and character development, Gondry successfully directs one of the
best twenty first century films.
The cinematography of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind effectively develops the film s plot and
characters. In the beginning of the movie, Joel is shown awaking in a close up. This shot easily shows
the gloomy expression on his face, asking the audience to question why he is upset. Hand held
cameras provide the story with a natural, more realistic feel, inviting the audience into Joel s
memories. The hand held cameras provide the film with an imperfect, human perspective. This can be
viewed primarily in the honeymoon on ice scene. Slight shakes of the camera are evident. In the scene
when Joel and Clementine see each other on the train to Montauk, far

Definition of Health Insurance
Definition
Health insurance is insurance against the risk of incurring health care related expenses. It indemnifies
the insured for the related financial loss. It is important to note that health insurance is a form of short
term insurance. Disability, critical illness and long term care insurance are all subclasses of health
insurance.
When an individual buys health insurance, he/she enters into a contract (policy) with the insurance
company so that for a monthly premium, the insurance company will provide cover for medical
expenses incurred. The level of cover and the health care providers allowed will range between
different products. Coverage will include visits to doctors or hospitals, prescriptions, cost of medical

The Fifth Amendment And The Rights During Arrest, Trial,...
No matter what the crime is, the Constitution is supposed to help protect the accused s rights during
arrest, trial, and sentencing. The Sixth Amendment clearly states that In all criminal prosecutions, the
accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district
wherein the crime shall have been committed... and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense .
If the accused is found to be guilty, the Eighth Amendment is there to protect us from the possibility of
cruel and unusual punishment. This is something as an American we all expect and we all assume is
what happens, but what if you re a minority, or have a mental impairment and you re facing the death
penalty, can you expect the same rights? Recent studies have shown that while the use of the death
penalty have gone down over the years since it was reinstated in 1976, there is still a staggering
number of statics showing inequality in the application of its use. A law professor from the University
of Iowa, David C. Baldus and two colleagues published a study not long after the reinstatement of the
death penalty in 1976 (Dow, 2011). In this study it looked at over 2,000 homicide cases just within
Georgia alone beginning in 1972, what they found was startling (Dow, 2011). Baldus found that black
defendants were 1.7 times more likely to be given the death penalty than white defendants and those

many ways to keep the readers to make the novel suspenseful. Preston stares the stories from the first

The author uses imagery various times throughout the novel. One of the stories first talked about is of
a man named Charles Monet. He had gone in a cave and touched things inside if the cave that could
have caused him to become ill. After Monet became sick, he flew to Nairobi to seek medical attention.
In the novel it states, He coughs a deep cough and regurgitates something into the bag.... You see that

The Davinci Code Essay
When a military accountant connects some missing weapons with the murder of two generals seeking
peace, she won t stop until she exposes the people behind it even if it means going to the top.
BRIEF SYNOPSIS
One of a few female soldiers stationed at an American outpost in Iraq, Sergeant Macy runs the unit s
accounting office. She is obsessed with balancing the books to the penny. She discovers an entry for
some weapons that are not accurate. The weapons were ordered and delivered but some are missing.
Macy investigates with the help of her staff, Kovac, Johnson and Clairmonte. She brings it up to her
commanding officer, Major Lee. He orders her to falsify the records and shut up. Macy goes against
orders and continues to investigate. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Macy makes a strong moral choice and decides to investigate. It works. Action films, however, depend
on strong action and a fast pace.
FRIENDLY FIRE would benefit from picking up the pace. Given the overture and the missing
weapons, it s clear what is at stake. The viewer is waiting for the story to start and for her to find the
murderers. However, the script drags out Act I.
It s understood Macy is a bean counter; it s an interesting take on military action hero. The DaVinci
Code and the TV series The Librarians have academic driven heroes, too. They work because the story
isn t weighed down by day to day activities, paperwork and emails. FRIENDLY FIRE would benefit
from less paperwork and more action.
In a 90 page action script, the set up needs to move quickly. Stronger, condensed structure would help
pick up the pace. Consider moving the Act II break up, maybe closer to page 15 or 20. Look for a
break that is visual and shows the viewer what Macy is up against.
Strong Act II breaks need to show a change from the hero s ordinary world to the new world. It s hard
to see any difference in Macy s worlds. The first half of the script seems to be one long Act I making it

Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep
It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is most
definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories, cleansing toxins,
and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple stages, from triggering
a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages to it, the first being the state
between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as drowsy sleep due to the muscles in
the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit. In this stage the brainwaves transition
from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal range of brain wavelengths when the body is
awake, to less erratic alpha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and beta
waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has shut off
all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime example of how
the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the
brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to
the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing
information. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary
paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists
believe this is the reason infants sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible
to being woken up by the slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and
brain involvement some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information
it receives during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. REM sleep could be considered as a
work out for your brain, helping us to make sense of what we experience throughout our

The Blade Artist Essay
Irvine Welsh s latest novel The Blade Artist (released this year) was a novel that caught my eye while I
was looking along the shelves of my local library. The Blade Artist is a crime and thriller novel that
keeps you guessing until the end. Frank Begbie s first son, Sean Begbie is found dead in his
hometown Leith and he makes it his mission to find the killer. He also encounters some old friends
and enemies from before he basically changed his whole identity which is now an artist from Los
Angeles with a family. Things that I liked in this novel were the idea People aren t always who they
say they are and Frank Begbie as an interesting character.
Frank Begbie was an interesting character for me because he has lived two different lives over his life
and they feature two very different people with very different personalities. His personality as Jim
Francis is a very calm character who is happy with life as a sculptor whereas Frank Begbie which is
his original identity is obsessed with violence and loved to play tricks which would harm people.
Occasionally one character will appear while acting as or being the other like when Jim was punching
and kicking Santiago on the beach. The conversation between the pair went like this. Santiago screams
in pain Please don t hurt me anymore Jim! Please oh please!

this novel to teenagers and adults because it would a very inapplicable novel for anyone younger. The

Using teachers to screen for potential gifted students gives a basis for more formal testing of the
students. However, the district must first define their own requirements for a gifted program.
Primarily, a higher than average IQ score, general good grades, leadership abilities, and creative
abilities should be considered when looking to identify gifted students. While all of these
characteristics are important, it is also important to note that students may not possess all of them, and
may only have a gifted talent in one specific area of study. When a teacher suspects giftedness, they
should refer the student to the guidance counselor or school psychologist, who can then set up a
formal assessment to determine if the student has enough of the characteristics to qualify as gifted by
the state. After students have been identified, it is then important to secure a GIEP (Gifted Individual
Education Plan) and make greater opportunities available. However, as mentioned above, the first step
is to use the tools described above to identify students in need of the gifted

The Economic Model Of Spotify
The Economic Model of Spotify.
Abstract.
This research looks deeper into the mechanics of how a digital music streaming, namely Spotify,
works in the music industry. Spotify is a combination of both non interactive and interactive service,
and it is therefore important to understand how this combination model uses different licensing
schemes for each in order to avoid any intellectual property right abuse or copyright infringement. The
focus for this paper is more based on the economic model of Spotify, which includes how Spotify can
be classified as network good, the licensing schemes that Spotify uses, how royalty payment is
determined and the effect Spotify has in combating piracy. The growth of Spotify is also discussed in

21st century marked the era of digital activity, and hence, the declining in physical sale of albums is
replaced by active downloading activity of musical works. The downloading activity can vary greatly
from downloading songs from legal market, such as iTunes, to downloading more songs in illegal
market, which promotes piracy. While the downloading activity may have replaced some of the values
that are lost from the declining sale, majority of the revenue in music industry has evaporated.
Unfortunately, this type of music consumption today generates very little to no value for the artist.
Daniel Elk, a visionary guy from Sweden, realized this problem and hence, began to develop a model
that could help in relieving the music industry. This is when Spotify was introduced to the market, a
paid service that is legal and capable in helping artist by giving them the royalty they deserved.
Spotify s Economic Model. Spotify, which was a technology based on Sweden, entered the U.S.

different services. Firstly, Spotify provides Radio service. This is a non interactive service in which
the user searches a song, play it, and then Spotify will generate a random playlist, which will be

The Waitress By Billy Collins Analysis
We are constantly being judged on the basis of our ethnicity, gender, and occupation. As a result, many
people feel misunderstood by the expectations and stigmas branded on them. From gender
discrimination to racial segregation, many forms of social injustice existed throughout the course of
history. Up until today, we still encounter various forms of discrimination and social injustices on a
day to day basis. The portrait, A Waitress at Duval s Restaurant, 1875 by Pierre Auguste Renoir and
poem, The Waitress by Billy Collins reflect the struggles and expectations of women during the late
19th century. In the portrait, we see a waitress with a dazed expression posing with her hand on the

Several examples in history include Martin Luther King Jr. s decision to fight for civil rights and
Elizabeth Cady Stanton s decision to start the Women s Suffrage Movement. The poem, The Waitress
depicts a waitress who demonstrates courage and freedom outside the stereotypical image of a woman.
For instance, Collins states where they have removed their jackets, their aprons and bowties, and now
they are having a cigarette(501) . This quote describes a scenario of a women s gathering after their
work shift. In this scenario, the initially polite and reserved waitress is now being portrayed as a
woman who indulges in uncharacteristically opposing activities, like smoking a cigarette.
Additionally, smoking a cigarette is also considerably masculine, which symbolizes a woman s refusal
to conform to societal expectations. This sudden transformation from a waitress to her true self
demonstrates the urge that women have to defend their rights and stay true to themselves. Although
this behavior was initially frowned upon, an increasing amount of people are becoming accepting of
women and other minority groups/social classes. In today s society, more women are offered job
opportunities and earning higher wages. Nowadays, people are no longer judged by their gender or
ethnicity, but rather their skill set. Additionally, many minority groups, like the elderly, LGBT, and
low income families are receiving better opportunities in life, like nursing home care, legalization of
gay rights and financial aid,

The Significant Effects Of Imperialism And Colonization...
Imperialism and colonization caused several effects around the world. Some of these effects have left
behind a legacy that goes on to this day. The continent of Africa was one of the most attractive areas to
colonize for Europe. In a time period between 1870 s and 1900 s Europe colonized Africa due to the
industrial revolution they distributed African lands in order to gain raw material. The lands within
Africa were distributed using the order of imperialism, each country required permission in order to
obtain the land. These lands were extremely useful because of the massive quantity of natural
resources such as gold, iron, cobalt etc. There were several distinguished countries during the
imperialism; a country that definitely holds legacy within several districts and regions of Africa is
Great Britain. A country largely affected by Great Britain and colonialism is my country Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe was under British jurisdiction from 1888 to 1979. The colonization of Zimbabwe began

Essay about The Black Death in The Decameron by Boccaccio
The Black Death was an epidemic disease that was also known as the Bubonic Plague. It was one of
the most tragic epidemics that has happened in the world. The Black Death hit England between the
years of 1348 1350. This plague annihilated one third of its original population. Trading ships that
came to England during this time were blamed for the spread of this disease. People believed that
when trading ships left other countries that they would bring in infested rats that carried the disease.

eternity as trees because they did not appreciate the bodies they were given. The first ring is where
people who were violent to other people spend eternity in a pool of boiling blood, the second is where
the suicides go, and further down those that were violent toward God. In the eighth circle there are

What Is The Humanistic Approach In Psychology
1. Psychodynamic psychology focuses on making sense of individual relationships, experiences, and
how people view the world. This approach says our behaviors and feelings are effected by
unconscious motives. Our feelings are greatly influenced by our past experiences and are stored in our
unconscious.
2. The behavioral approach to psychology views people as controlled by their environment.
Behaviorism proposes two main processes by which people learn from their environment. The
processes are: classical and operant conditioning. Classical conditioning involves learning by

5 Steps to the Scientific Research Method
1. Perceiving the Question
The scientific method starts when you ask a question about something you have observed: How, what,
when , who, why, or where?
2. Forming a Hypothesis
A hypothesis is an educated guess. It is an attempt to answer your question with an explanation that
can be tested.
3. Testing the Hypothesis
You test your hypothesis by doing an experiment. Your experiment will tell you whether your
prediction is correct.
4. Drawing a Conclusion
Once your experiment is finished, you analyze your data. Your hypothesis may or may not be correct.
If your hypothesis is not supported, you may want to conduct further experiments to answer your
question.
5. Reporting your Results
The final step is to report your findings. You would record your hypothesis, what your experiment
was, and why. Lastly, log your findings and what the results mean.

Unfortunately, the investigation is going to take time, so anyone who had dealings with Goldman

The question is, Is this the right decision? Should you be betting your personal finances on loans that
are considered every bit as bad as a fraudulent mortgage company loan?
Here is why you might want to avoid the payday loans if you are in dire debt troubles. A payday loan
is a short term loan with little regulation. In other words, the companies have found a loop hole that
allows them to charge you high interests in a short period of time. There is also a fee associated with
the cash advance. If you are in a situation where you cannot pay the loan back on the due date, and in
full, you are just creating more debt for yourself.
On the other hand, if it is possible to pay it all back and avoid the hefty interest fees, it could be a
sound decision to get you through the month. The reality is that most individuals seeking payday loans

A sea otter is the smallest marine mammal in North America, and is a part of the weasel family. They
range along the coast from San Mateo County, and South ward through Monterey County, down
through Santa Barbara county. Most animals don t have fat on them, unlike a sea otter which has
blubber to keep them warm, which is very thick. It keeps the otters warm in negative degree waters.
Their fur is made up of million hairs per square inch. Only way they keep their coats waterproof,
which they only do by hours of cleaning and grooming. Sea otters spend most of their lives cleaning
their fur to stay waterproof and warm. Most sea otters eat up to a quarter of their weight every day.
Sea otters also may hunt on the sea floor, but always come back to the top to eat its food on its chest,
and use it as a table. A sea otters diet consists of crabs, clams, crayfish, and frogs. Most otters hunt by
detecting movements in the water. Their life spans only last about 15 20 years for females and 10 15

Zimmer Biomet followed this development by issuing recall notices of over 3,600 Comprehensive
Reverse Shoulder Humeral implants on December 2016. It further called on healthcare providers to
return all the unused implants. The company had initially marketed the device as a solution for
patients suffering from cuff tear arthropathy, a severe form of arthritis that afflicts the shoulder. The
device was also advanced as alternative treatment for patients who have undergone unsuccessful
traditional shoulder replacement surgery. It is important to note that a reverse total shoulder

such as cuff tear arthropathy since it uses multiple muscles to enhance the arms

Ebola Virus Disease ( Ebv )
Ebola virus disease (EBV), or just Ebola, is an acute, often fatal illness, with a case fatality rate of up
to 90%. It is one of a number of haemorrhagic fever diseases. Ebola is a single stranded RNA virus
with an unusual, variable length, branched morphology. The helical capsid is enclosed inside a
membrane.. It is one of the world s most virulent diseases. The Ebola virus is a member of the
Filoviridae family. There are 5 known subtypes of Ebola. The infection is transmitted by direct contact
with the blood, body fluids and tissues of infected animals or people. The current hypothesis is that
fruit bats are the original host of the virus. Ebola was introduced into the human population through
close contact with the blood, secretions, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The virus also inhibits interferon which is a molecule that cells make use of to further retard viral
reproduction.
The exact process what happens next is not fully known but the virus attacks the connective tissue and
reproduces at an extremely fast rate in the collagen, digesting the tissue as it goes. The virus can
ultimately cause viral hemorrhagic fever. When the macrophages in our body register the virus and
consume it, they end up becoming infected and are manipulated to release proteins that trigger
coagulation create small clots in the blood. This leads to the blood slowly thickening and therefore a
decreased blood flow. As the clots begin to get stuck in the blood vessels, the patient begins to exhibit
red spots on the skin the rash. As the disease progresses, these clots and their spots increase in size.
Another more serious effect of the Ebola virus s clotting factor is the decreased blood supply to the
vital areas of the body such as the liver, brain, kidneys, lungs, intestines, testicles and extremities
ultimately causing a multi organ failure or septic shock.
The macrophages also produce other inflammatory signalling proteins and nitric oxide, which damage
the lining of blood vessels, causing them to leak and sometimes burst. The content leaks out, and the
damage and presence of the virus particles activates

David Perlmutter Asl
To graduate from a college in the United States of America, the general standard of foreign language
requirements is either two consecutive years in high school, or six college credits. Most high schools
only offer a few options, usually Spanish, French, or German, but most colleges offer ASL as well.
When a college student signs up for ASL, they are enlisting in an American Sign Language course, not
an English course; to some this may seem redundant, but they are wrong. ASL, is a separate language
from American English, British English, and BSL. David M. Perlmutter describes that signing can t be
translated word for word into English because, a single ASL sign can express an entire sentence that
requires three words or more in English . (Perlmutter, 2) When people are communicating through
ASL, they are using hand motions, as well as other body movements.
Although, there is no one universal sign ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Without any way of being able to communicate, we would have no friendships, families or jobs. For
people to make any kind of a barter, they need to be able to express what they desire with another
person. In India, many deaf men ride in the handicapped section of the train because it gives them
room to sign. Annelies Kusters describes an interaction between handicapped people on the train that
explains why their ability to communicate on the train is important when writing, the other people in
the compartment were hearing people in work suit or uniform, most of them with a disabled leg. One
of them who knew sign joined our group, stared at us for a while, and attempted to chat with me.
There was also communication between the Deaf people in the group and the two on benches about
the marriage of yet another Deaf person. (Kusters, 47) This has helped in building relationships
between people that have something in common, as well as a way for people to pass the time on their
commute to

Employee Productivity Is The Backbone Of Any Enterprise
Chapter 1: Problem Definition
Background
Employee productivity, also known as workforce productivity, is the backbone of any enterprise.
According to Amabile and Kramer (2012), the source of productivity at any company ...is the
individual knowledge workers who get things done every day (para. 1). And according to Axilrod
(2015), the typical employee is at his or her desk for an average of approximately five hours a day,
paid for by the company. Thus, in the current climate of globalization, outsourcing, downsizing, and
pension reduction, it is vital for administration and management to stay on top of what sustains
employee loyalty and employee productivity. Several elements contribute to effective employee
productivity, including employee job satisfaction and morale (Axilrod, 2015; Manson, 2014; Jarrow,
2013; Kaupelyte, 2013; Turner, 2013; Amabile Kramer, 2012; Walters, 2010; Bowles Cooper, 2009).
Neely (2013) asserts that Regardless of the profession or type of work, the central element that has
had a stake in productivity, longevity and overall success of any organization [is] employee morale (p.
13).
The technology sector is one of the fastest growing in the business, if not the fastest growing sector.
Like many others in other sectors, companies in the technology sector are facing the challenges of
employee productivity and are initiating actions toward performance management (Axilrod, 2015) to
...focus... on the performance of employees and [ensure] their

Frankenstein, By Julie Otsuka And Frankenstein By Mary...
Someone yelled from the bottom, if you voted for Trump, you better be fucking scared. Everyone
clapped and applauded, recounted Kathryn Hinderaker, Vice President of the St. Olaf College
Republicans. Obviously, it didn t feel super safe. Conservatives on college campuses are being
terrorized across the nation, facing threats of violence and sometimes worse. The portrayal of campus
conservatives as monsters is an apt comparison to the monstrosity the reader observes in the novels
When the Emperor was Divine by Julie Otsuka and Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, novels where
characters face unfair oppression and are feared because of things or events that they cannot control.

The creature s greatest desire is to be welcomed by man, and he is prepared to work hard to achieve
this goal. He says, What chiefly struck me was the gentle manners of these people; and I longed to
join them, but dared not... I would remain quietly in my hovel, watching and endeavoring to discover
the motives which influenced their actions, (Shelley 77). Upon gathering more information about
people, the creature leaves his hovel. When he is alone with the blind man, De Lacey, in the cottage,
he says ...I trust that by your aid, I shall not be driven from the society and sympathy of your fellow
creatures. (Shelley 98). The creature genuinely believes that despite his physical deformities, he will
be accepted by mankind. He thinks that through his ability to contribute to society and his kindness,
people will treat him with respect even though he is not physically like them. The creature s
confidence that he would be accepted shows that was overly optimistic about the morality of mankind.
At the start of their tumultuous journeys, both the girl and the creature are confident, optimistic beings
that seem on track for success.
However, these dreams of success are derailed by unfair treatment at the hands of others. The creature
and the girl are discriminated against based on things that are out of their control. The girl has to deal
with more adversity and discrimination than anyone should ever have to face, particularly at a young
age. She says, Someone had thrown

Paul Revere s Ride Essay
Many citizens living in America may have heard about the poem Paul Revere s ride on April 18, 1775.
It was written by a famous American poet called Henry Wadsworth Longfellow, after 85 years of
actual Paul Revere s ride . Paul Revere s Ride is one of the famous topics we can easily found while
studying 1700 s time of American History. Among, the recorded documents about Paul Revere s ride
there are two, the most famous documents, the one I just mentioned and Paul Revere s letter to Jeremy
Belknap . The poem Paul Revere s ride is also well known documents about Paul Revere s ride, but
Paul Revere s letter to Jeremy Belknap written by Paul Revere, himself 23 years after the actual ride is
also significant source of Paul Revere s ride to be reckoned with. In contrast, the poem is also an

The different view of poem and letter rendered its validity, as you can see in this quote Listen my
children and you shall hear of the midnight ride of Paul Revere . In this poem, when you see the part
Listen, my children , you can notice that the actual speaker is twinkly eyed, and sharp minded
grandfather. Furthermore, the tone in this poem drops to a whisper, but sometimes rise to a shout,
having full of excitement every time, which may drop integrity by decreasing concentration of the
readers. Similarly, it s hard to suppose that all the facts in the poem are came from precise knowledge.
In this quote It was two by the village clock, when he came to the bridge in Concord town ,
Longfellow records Revere as riding both Lexington and Concord, when in fact Revere was captured
outside of Lexington and never reached Concord although his companion Dr. Prescott did. An

Rhetorical Appeals In I Have A Dream Speech
During the 1960s, racism and discrimination were an enormous issue in the United States. To
highlight problems with African Americans Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. gave one of the greatest
speeches in modern history when he spoke the words I Have a Dream on August 28, 1963. King began
his speech by saying, I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest
demonstration of freedom in the history of our nation (King). He emphasized on the racial injustice
and his dream for unifying society to bring equilibrium back. Throughout the speech, he used a very
sophisticated voice and kept the audience engaged while carefully choosing the language and structure
of his speech. Using keywords like we, our, dream, justice, freedom on his speech, King highlighted
the importance of the theme.
While listening and reading the speech, the civil rights leader divided his speech into two halves. The
first half of the speech he is emphasizing on the injustice toward the African Americans, and the
second half he talks about the future of the Nation living the American dream equally and united.

Although King focused his speech primarily on the rights of black Americans, the message was all
logical. He talks about nothing controversial in his speech neither does he degrade white Americans.
His use of rhetoric appeals during the speech was a significant turning point for his claim to stop
racism and discrimination and bring equality and freedom in the United States. King used all his
means to inspire African Americans to believe in genuine freedom for themselves. When all of God s
children, black men, and white men, Jews, and Gentiles, Protestants, and Catholics, will be able to join
hands and sing, Free at last! Free at last! (King). More than 250,000 people gathered at Lincoln s

Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis
Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about
which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those
such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen
respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten.
On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as
neglected in our fast paced world. Despite these seemingly different statements, these works share
quite a lot on when looks just below the surface. In Blue Collar Brilliance Mike Rose describes his
appreciation for the often unnoticed intelligence that many blue collar workers posses as well as the
positive impact that physical work can have on the lives of those taking part in it. Nothing he says
encapsulates this more than his description of his uncle Joe working on a car assembly line, For Joe
the shop floor provided what school did not; it was like schooling, he said, a place where you re
constantly learning. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that
were quick and preserved energy. (1036). This parallels the findings of Carr in World and Screen
where he describes how by using our ancestral navigation abilities we keep our mind healthy mentally,
by working out the parts of the brain that are in charge of memory, and physically by

Compare And Contrast Christianity And Judaism
Almost all mankind is curious about knowing about the creation of the universe, but it remains
mysterious. Although some might be convinced through the Bible or other scripture while others are
still skeptical. Of world s three monotheistic religions (that is, the belief that there is only one God),
Christianity and Judaism share the most similarities and differences between the two religions in terms
of history, beliefs, and practices. In fact, Christianity wouldn t be originated if Judaism was not
because they come from the same foundation. Judaism is one of the oldest world religions, dating its
origin back in the 500s 400s BCE. During the time, Abraham followed God as he promised to make
Abraham the father of a great nation. Through Old Testament and promises to Moses, David and the
prophets it slowly reveals God s plan. The people of Israel got a law through Moses and fulfillment of
the promises become conditional on obedience to the law.
The Jewish people, also known as Hebrews at the time were the first to worship one God (the Creator
and Ruler), whose name is Yahweh. The most common opening to prayers in Judaism called the
Shema, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one (Robinson Rodrigues, p. 51), hence are continually
retold there is one god, no other. The God of Christianity is the same as the Jewish God, it is a God of
mercy and forgiveness. In Christianity one God consists of three distinct people (the trinity): The
Father, the Son, and Holy Spirit.

Profitability
For Pumpkin Patch 2014 was a difficult financial year which proved to be another challenging year
with difficult retail environments in our core markets which impacted the level of earnings achieved as
stated by the chairperson Peter Schuyt.
Australia
Australia had a challenging FY14 with soft retail conditions and high levels of promotional activity

  • 2. Alienation And Anomie Essay Both concepts of alienation and anomie signify how individualism has impacted the social structures through industrialization and the division of labour. Both Marx and Durkheim s theories emphasize the relationships between people in society and how this impacts on separateness and individualism within it; however, both theories are different. Where Marx is concerned he focuses on being alienated as a result of materialized matter through the bourgeoisie alienating oneself from culture, for Durkheim anomie is due to the lack of a collective conscience within society preventing both regulation and integration of culture; for Durkheim this negatively impacts on social solidarity and cohesion. Alienation occurred after the periods of slavery and serfdom arose a capitalist society, workers selling their labour skills in order to earn a living wage. In comparison to feudal societies where wealth was inherited, capitalist societies through the bourgeoisie was about owning the means of production enabling them to own private property and this being wealth. However, the cost price of the goods produced was significantly higher than the labourer s wages resulting in a profit for the bourgeoisie, this being the method of attaining wealth. The capitalist mode of production generates its wealth through exploitation of the proletariat. Karl Marx (1970) stated ...the accumulation of wealth at one pole of society involves a simultaneous accumulation of poverty, labour torment, slavery, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

This device used electrical signals to transmit messages. The telegraph played a significant role in transmitting messages over long spaces. Its usage was in Law enforcement, army and newspapers. Even so, anyone could post messages using a telegram via a service. Today, there are roughly three principal methods of measuring the velocity of data contagion. Baud rate (signaling events per minute), BPS (bits per Sec) and CPS (characters per minute). The fact is, today the baud rate has been substituted with a more precise unit of measurement. Telephones are most mutual and are ground in almost every home and organizations. Telephones worked by using a PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network). This is where copper wires carry an analogue voice signal. Analogue means a device or organization in which the value of a data point represented by a continuously varying physical quantity which can be quantified. An example is a watch that shows time with hands on a dial rather than numbers on an LCD screen. In an analogue telephone system, the audio signal is converted into electronic pulses. This creates vibrations in the handset s speaker that can be picked up by the person listening. Nevertheless, in a digital telephone. The audio signal is converted into binary format. The binary format consists of groups of 0 s and 1 s. The audio signal is sampled thousands of times a second and ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Should Australia Use Nuclear Powered Submarines The concept of a submersible boat has existed since the late 1500s, with the first working submarine constructed in 1623 by Cornelius Drebbel (Harris 2015). Since then the complexity of submarine technology has greatly evolved, largely due to funding by various militaries across the world. The first two Australian Submarines were commissioned in 1914 and deployed during World War 1, with both submarines lost during the conflict (Australian Submarine Corporation n.d.). As of 2015 the Royal Australian Navy s submarine fleet consists of 6 Collins class submarines, but arrangements are being made by the Government for a new state of the art submarine fleet to be constructed (McPhedran 2014). Although one of the specifications that the government has stated about their planned submarines is that they cannot be nuclear powered, this investigation will look into whether this guideline is necessary or suitable for the next generation of Australian submarines. The focus question for this investigation is Would it be beneficial for Australia to acquire and use Nuclear Powered Submarines? Whether its conspiracy theories, superstitions, ghost, religion or even supernatural experiences. Everybody has their own beliefs. Why don t we all just believe in one... Logic! People are scared to question what they believe, because they never really know if it s real or fake, so they might as well do the right thing just in case . Why don t they test their theories to actually really find out for themselves? Honestly, one can be scared of the truth which is why they avoid it, but anything can be proven logically. Religion, or more concise, prayer is the main topic around the world. Everyone has different beliefs, and believe in different or many Gods. Are they all real? Probably not. Many can say that prayer works, but fail to see both sides of the story. The bible for instance, one can agree that they re many verse to imply that pray works. If it does not work than the bible either tells you you don t have enough faith or god has other plans . Although, there are some instances that prayer has been said to work it really cannot be proven. People believe in the bible so much. It is a book written thousands of years ago. Nt1310 Unit 3 Assignment 1 Bridge Bridge: Bridge is a simple device that aids in interconnecting similar LAN s between local area networks that use identical protocols for the physical and data link layers in accordance with the IEEE 802.3 standards. As the devices connected to the bridge use the same protocols, the amount of processing required is minimal. Nowadays, routers are used more commonly to interconnect LAN s as bridges are Layer 2 devices and pose almost no security while the router is a Layer 3 device and offers better Data Security. The industry of iron and steel was generating new construction materials, while railroads were being connected across the United States. But one of the most used resources in the world now was discovered, oil as a source of fuel. In 1901, a gigantic geyser of oil erupted from a drilling site at Spindletop Hill, Texas. The spout reached a height of more than 150 feet and produced close to 100,000 barrels a day. This was the most powerful gusher ever seen before by the world. • 10. A Crucifixion Outside The City Of Jerusalem This painting depicts a crucifixion outside the city of Jerusalem, discernible by the centrally planned church and rounded red rotunda in the background of the city. Rounded structures that resemble towers align the walls of the city, another definitive element of the biblical city. Although the painting clearly represents an idealized Jerusalem, it emulates a contemporary European town of the Northern Renaissance age, with Gothic architecture and what resembles shops at the front of the city. The painter also depicts the mountainous terrain of Jerusalem, but portrays greenery that the actual desert city would not have. The contemporary background makes the painting less abstract and more relatable to the viewer. The overall composition of the painting is naturalistic: emphasized by the light and shadow on the figures, the use of three dimensions, and the additional details in the clothes of the figures. The body on the cross demonstrates the most amount of modeling. The face and legs of the person are covered by shadow, while the light hits the left side of the body at the chest the most. Also, there is an attention to showcasing three dimensions: the objects towards the back of the painting get smaller, while the objects in the front are larger. The three dimensions frame the picture, and create a sense of directly looking into the scene from a front viewer. Lastly, the folding and drapery of the clothing accentuate the naturalism of the painting by looking similar to ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. King Corn Food Analysis I can truly say that I have never been as disgusted researching and writing a paper than I am writing one about the production and growth of food. In a previous course, I had to watch the documentary, King Corn. Watching that film alone was an eye opener for me because it went into depth about how 80% of Americas antibiotics were used on cows because of being corn fed, but I never knew how drastic the food industry was. Now that I have watched two drastic films and read the chapter on Food, I feel as if I never want to eat food unless it is grown by me. With a growing population, there is a demand for an increase in agriculture. After learning about the statistics of how much agriculture consumes our planet, I was appalled to see how destructive it is. Jonathan Foley put into perspective the increase and rapid demand for food. Agriculture alone consumes 40% of our land surface, 70% of our irrigation system, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It has been taken over by large companies and marketed at high price. Our food is grown based on demand, not on health. The chicken that are raised are in small areas where they have never been exposed to sunlight. There are plenty that die each day because of the conditions they are being kept in. The chicken s organs cannot keep up with their growth, therefore, they cannot take two steps. Cows are basically in the same situation as the chickens. They are being fed corn instead of grass and are confined to small areas. Listening to the documentary about how the chances of cows being cleaned before slaughtered is traumatizing. Taking a Look at Experimental Music Experimental music is a term that refers to the music in the twentieth century that experiment with components of music and creating new avenues for the composition of music. In the later part of the essay, more shall be discuss on the area of experimenting sound and technique. Stylistic features of each piece such as harmony, texture, timbre, form etc, will be presented alongside with the examples of music to allow a better understanding towards experimental music. Charles Ives is an American composer which could be called as one of the founders of experimental music as he was one of the earliest composers to look in to this avenue. His inspiration for experimental music was from his father whom teaches him theory and composition. He encourages Ives to go on the route of experimenting with sounds. Ives explored new techniques regarding harmony, rhythm and form. Innovations could be seen throughout his composing career but at the same time, he preserves some of the traditional rules. In his early stage of composing, he wrote several polytonal pieces which means the use two or more keys in different layers in his music. Ex. Varations on America. Several new techniques that has been tried out by Ives includes the system of using all possible chords from a single tonic note creating chords from intervals 2nd, 3rd 4th and so on. • 13. The Influence Of Living In A Small Town Imagine growing up in a small town where everyone knows everyone s business and the nearest Wal Mart is almost an hour away; then imagine attending a school where the amount of student attending is the same number of people who occupy a small town. The size difference is substantial and plays an important role. When I was younger, I had attended both a small town school and a school in the city. I have had the chance to experience the different lifestyles of these two variations of living. The development of who I am today was because of my surroundings. In the city, I noticed there was different opportunities. The opportunities seemed more readily available depending on funding and sources; which are dependant on the location. Education, development, and opportunities are widely known to be affected by environmental factors; thus, people who live in the city have a different experience than those who reside in small towns. There are many stereotypes associated with people who live in the city and people who live in a small town. A lot of stereotypes lean towards people who grow up in a small town do not have the chance to receive a finer education, or everyone who lives in the city are rude and arrogant. On contrary to these stereotypes, people raised in a small town can receive an adequate education and not everyone who lives in the city is rude. The novel Things Fall Apart, by Chinua Achebe, clearly demonstrates the changes that took place in the Ibo culture to a Western audience. By following the life of many dynamic characters throughout the story, Achebe is able show the reader what the Ibo culture entails. • 15. Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind By Michel Gondry Essay A hollow feeling inside of your chest consumes your body. The room is filled with your sobs and hiccuped breaths. A million thoughts are racing through your head; none of these are positive. You tell yourself that you wish you never met them. You plea at the universe to take away all the memories of them. You beg to never again feel this type of agony. If possible, would you eradicate the memory of another human? In the movie Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Joel Barish (Jim Carrey) and Clementine Kruczynski (Kate Winslet) do exactly this. Directed by Michel Gondry, this American romantic comedy wonderfully expresses the idea that a person s memories are fundamental in human growth. Through cinematography, lighting, and character development, Gondry successfully directs one of the best twenty first century films. The cinematography of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind effectively develops the film s plot and characters. In the beginning of the movie, Joel is shown awaking in a close up. This shot easily shows the gloomy expression on his face, asking the audience to question why he is upset. Hand held cameras provide the story with a natural, more realistic feel, inviting the audience into Joel s memories. The hand held cameras provide the film with an imperfect, human perspective. This can be viewed primarily in the honeymoon on ice scene. Slight shakes of the camera are evident. In the scene when Joel and Clementine see each other on the train to Montauk, far ... It is important to note that health insurance is a form of short term insurance. Disability, critical illness and long term care insurance are all subclasses of health insurance. • 19. The Fifth Amendment And The Rights During Arrest, Trial,... No matter what the crime is, the Constitution is supposed to help protect the accused s rights during arrest, trial, and sentencing. The Sixth Amendment clearly states that In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the state and district wherein the crime shall have been committed... and to have the assistance of counsel for his defense . If the accused is found to be guilty, the Eighth Amendment is there to protect us from the possibility of cruel and unusual punishment. This is something as an American we all expect and we all assume is what happens, but what if you re a minority, or have a mental impairment and you re facing the death penalty, can you expect the same rights? Recent studies have shown that while the use of the death penalty have gone down over the years since it was reinstated in 1976, there is still a staggering number of statics showing inequality in the application of its use. A law professor from the University of Iowa, David C. Baldus and two colleagues published a study not long after the reinstatement of the death penalty in 1976 (Dow, 2011). In this study it looked at over 2,000 homicide cases just within Georgia alone beginning in 1972, what they found was startling (Dow, 2011). Baldus found that black defendants were 1.7 times more likely to be given the death penalty than white defendants and those who murdered white victims were actually 4.3 times more apt to be ... • 23. Common Misconception Of The Brain s Five Stages Of Sleep It is a common misconception that when we fall asleep, our brains go to sleep as well. This is most definitely not the case. Our brain is hard at work while we sleep; making memories, cleansing toxins, and many other activities. When falling asleep, our brains go through multiple stages, from triggering a loss in consciousness to highly erratic activity. Sleeping has five stages to it, the first being the state between wakefulness and sleep. This stage is often referred to as drowsy sleep due to the muscles in the body still being fairly active and the eyes roll around a bit. In this stage the brainwaves transition from erratic beta and gamma waves, which is the normal range of brain wavelengths when the body is awake, to less erratic alpha ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The brain activity during REM sleep is mainly mixed brain waves consisting of theta, alpha and beta waves. This is also the point in a sleep cycle where the body is basically rigid. The brain has shut off all muscle movements other than the ones that keep you alive. This stage is a prime example of how the brain is busy while we are sleeping, REM sleep begins with signals from an area at the base of the brain called the pons. These signals travel to a brain region called the thalamus, which relays them to the cerebral cortex the outer layer of the brain that is responsible for learning, thinking, and organizing information. The pons also sends signals that shut off neurons in the spinal cord, causing temporary paralysis of the limb muscles (Brain Basics). Being that REM sleep deals with learning, scientists believe this is the reason infants sleep a large amount of time and also why they are more susceptible to being woken up by the slightest noises. Since this stage of sleeping has a great deal of dreaming and brain involvement some scientists believe that dreaming is the brain s way of sorting out information it receives during sleep, creating a story out of what it gathers. Here is why you might want to avoid the payday loans if you are in dire debt troubles. A payday loan is a short term loan with little regulation. In other words, the companies have found a loop hole that allows them to charge you high interests in a short period of time. There is also a fee associated with the cash advance. If you are in a situation where you cannot pay the loan back on the due date, and in full, you are just creating more debt for yourself. On the other hand, if it is possible to pay it all back and avoid the hefty interest fees, it could be a sound decision to get you through the month. The reality is that most individuals seeking payday loans are already behind in payments and obtaining this type of loan could make it even worse. You have other personal finance decisions you could make. You could seek a debt consolidation loan through a bank or consolidation loan company. You could sell your car to raise the needed ... The exact process what happens next is not fully known but the virus attacks the connective tissue and reproduces at an extremely fast rate in the collagen, digesting the tissue as it goes. The virus can ultimately cause viral hemorrhagic fever. When the macrophages in our body register the virus and consume it, they end up becoming infected and are manipulated to release proteins that trigger coagulation create small clots in the blood. This leads to the blood slowly thickening and therefore a decreased blood flow. As the clots begin to get stuck in the blood vessels, the patient begins to exhibit red spots on the skin the rash. As the disease progresses, these clots and their spots increase in size. Another more serious effect of the Ebola virus s clotting factor is the decreased blood supply to the vital areas of the body such as the liver, brain, kidneys, lungs, intestines, testicles and extremities ultimately causing a multi organ failure or septic shock. • 40. David Perlmutter Asl To graduate from a college in the United States of America, the general standard of foreign language requirements is either two consecutive years in high school, or six college credits. Most high schools only offer a few options, usually Spanish, French, or German, but most colleges offer ASL as well. When a college student signs up for ASL, they are enlisting in an American Sign Language course, not an English course; to some this may seem redundant, but they are wrong. Blue Collar Brilliance And The Busy Carter Analysis Work and leisure, these are two integral parts of human life, however there is much debate about which of them is more important as well as what the proper balance between them should be. Those such as Mike Rose and Nicholas Carr, in their articles Blue Collar Brilliance and World and Screen respectively, emphasis how the benefits of working, physically as well as mentally, are often forgotten. On the other side, however, Tim Freider in his work The Busy Trap contends that leisure is just as neglected in our fast paced world. Joe Joe learned the most efficient way to use his body with a set of routines that were quick and preserved energy. (1036). Although some might be convinced through the Bible or other scripture while others are still skeptical. Of world s three monotheistic religions (that is, the belief that there is only one God), Christianity and Judaism share the most similarities and differences between the two religions in terms of history, beliefs, and practices. In fact, Christianity wouldn t be originated if Judaism was not because they come from the same foundation. Judaism is one of the oldest world religions, dating its origin back in the 500s 400s BCE. During the time, Abraham followed God as he promised to make Abraham the father of a great nation. Through Old Testament and promises to Moses, David and the prophets it slowly reveals God s plan. The people of Israel got a law through Moses and fulfillment of the promises become conditional on obedience to the law. The Jewish people, also known as Hebrews at the time were the first to worship one God (the Creator and Ruler), whose name is Yahweh. The most common opening to prayers in Judaism called the Shema, Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God is one (Robinson Rodrigues, p. 51), hence are continually retold there is one god, no other. The God of Christianity is the same as the Jewish God, it is a God of mercy and forgiveness.
