Introduction
• Vehicular accidents are on the surge in a developing country such as ours.
• Majority of these accidents happen due to carelessness of the driver while
checking the car statistics, or not checking them entirely.
• Also a lot of accident cases are open ended, as the justice architecture can’t find
the root cause of the accident.
• The system proposed here acts as a black box for automobiles.
• Black box is a device commonly used in airplanes for accident analysis and safety
measure purposes.
• It doesn’t only store event data in the light of a fatality or an accident but also
provides with live statistics of the car details through an application interface on
a mobile phone.
• A traditional black box system requires a box with all the sensors physically
connected to car.

Literature survey
• Sri Krishna Chaitanya Varma, Poornesh, TarunVarma and Harsha in [1] have
designed a working model of automatic vehicle accident detection and
messaging system using a GPS and GSM modems successfully. In this work
they have used a basic AT89C52 microcontroller for cost effective and easy
understanding. The microcontroller is interfaced to GPS and GSM module
via a multiplexer, where these devices are activated using select lines
internally built in the multiplexer.
• Rajashri R, Lokhande and Sachin P. Gawate in [2] have developed a
Wireless black box using MEMS accelerometer and GPS tracking system to
monitor the accident. The system consists of conjunctive components of
an accelerometer, microcontroller unit, GPS device and GSM module.
3
Literature survey
• Ramchandra Patil and Shivaraj Hublikar in [3] have presented a new vision
for the vehicles industry, which is the Black Box system and Collision
Avoidance System used for vehicles. The system consists of ARM7LPC2148,
GSM Module, Vehicle to Vehicle Collision Avoidance Unit (VVCAU) to avoid
crashing between vehicles and Black Box to record the relevant details
about a vehicle.
• Mr.Dinesh Kumar HSDK, Shreya Gupta, Sumeet Kumar and Sonali
Srivastava in [4] have designed an accident detection and reporting system
using GPS and GSM module. The system incorporates a single-board
embedded system that contains GPS and GSM modems connected with a
microcontroller89S52, alcohol sensor and vibration sensor.

Problem Statement
• Whenever an accident is being met, the people nearby call the
ambulance. The problem associated with this is that the
victims depend on the mercy of nearby people. There are
chances where no people nearby the accident spot or people
who are around neglects the accident. This is the flaw in the
manual system.

Aim & Objectives
Aim: To design and develop Car Black Box System using CAN
Protocol
Objectives:
– The main objective of this project is to develop a prototype of the Car
Black Box System that can be installed into any vehicle all over the
world.
– To send an alert message to the pre-coded number.
– To sense the presence of gas and fire.

Proposed System
• The proposed system is designed such that, the device itself
sends a message to the concerned person when an accident is
met. Proposed system uses Arduino board that provides an
easy access to input/output and analog pins and easy
burning/uploading of a program. The system GSM to send
notification in the form of SMS to the previously coded
number. It also includes the feature to detect the presence of
alcohol.

List of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
mapping with project
• GOAL 9: Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure
• GOAL 11: Sustainable cities and communities smart cities
• GOAL 15: Life on Land
• GOAL 17: Partnerships to achieve the goal
9
Applications
• Used in auto motives and transport vehicles- from lighter
vehicles like cars, to heavier auto motives like ships and aero-
planes.
• Security and remote monitoring of vehicles especially during
military operations.
• This system is also can be interfaced with Vehicle airbag system
such that when the sensors detect the accident, the air bags
get opened
