20. Introduction
Clean India Mission is a national campaign by the Government of India,
covering 4041 statutory towns, to clean the streets, roads and infrastructure of
the country.
The mission was started by Prime Minister Modi, who nominated nine
famous personalities for the campaign, and they took up the challenge and
nominated nine more people and so on.
The components of the programme are:
• Construction of individual sanitary latrines Conversion of dry latrines into
low-cost sanitary latrines.
• Construction of exclusive village sanitary complexes for women
providing facilities for hand pumping, bathing, sanitation and washing on
a selective basis.
• Setting up of sanitary marts.
• Total sanitation of villages through the construction of drains, soakage
pits, solid and liquid waste disposal.
• Intensive campaign for awareness generation and health education.

• 1.8 million people die every year from diarrhoeal diseases, 90% of
them are children under 5, mostly in developing countries. 1.3
million people die of malaria each year, 90% of them are children

24. Existing Condition
Solid Waste:
• In Bhagal village, solid waste management is a very serious issue.
• The existing solid waste management is carried out at household
level. The waste generated from the houses is collected
individually by householders themselves and then after some time
period they burn it near their houses.
• Thus, we can conclude that there is no solid waste management
planning in the study location, leading to a non-hygienic
environment and thus sustainable solid waste planning becomes
inevitable
Liquid Waste:
• In Bhagal, liquid waste generated at present is mostly at domestic
level.
• Every individual house has been facilitated with soak pits which
are proving to be efficient enough for controlling liquid waste.
• So for liquid waste management, further drainage facilitation
would prove unnecessary and uneconomical.

• The values of the factors considered in the design of such a site are as follows:
i. Population – 2500 (round off value)
ii. Illiteracy – 21.5%
iii. GDP – 6%
iv. Population growth rate of Valsad district – 21%
v. Total biodegradable waste generated – 70% of total waste generated
(assumed value)
For,
population = 2500 ,
GDP per capita = 6.00%
Illiteracy rate = 21.5%
Total waste generated by one person is 1.2576 kg/capita/day
So, for bhagal village total waste is 441.8106 tonnes

Bhagal is a village panchayat located in the Valsad district of Gujarat
state,India. The latitude 20.6842015 and longitude 72.8766554 are the
geocoordinate of the Bhagal. It is at a distance of 8 km from Valsad city.

29. Conclusion
● The alternate design proposal for road and canal mentioned here
would prove to be more sustainable and cost effective for the
government. This design would definitely improve the
efficiency of rural transport system and water conveyance
efficiency.
● If the proposed design for solid and liquid waste management
should be implemented, so that cleanliness would be maintained
in the village
● We can conclude that if the village is developed and planned as
per the sustainable planning provided here, and if the coast line
is developed as a tourist spot, the standard of the villagers could
be increased and the village could reach newer heights of
development.
