During the 1980s, many important inventions related to computers and technology were developed, changing people's lives. This included the first IBM personal computer running MS-DOS in 1981, the Apple Lisa and Macintosh computers, Windows software, laptops, digital cellular phones, high definition television, and the World Wide Web which was created by Tim Berners-Lee in 1990 and allowed for easy sharing of information over the internet. These inventions improved communications, transportation, medicine, and made daily life much more convenient with new technologies.

Technology is all around us and is developing at such a fast pace that we could miss out on a great deal of inventions and innovations if we do not stay constantly updated. In this blog post we are happy to share some of the coolest #techfacts we know, that highlight the power of technology and how it has developed over the years.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

3. 1981-1990 is very interesting decade especially when it talks
about inventions. This is an era of first computers, network, and
operation systems and all this staff have changed our life
drastically. Connections and transportations are better, medicine
and science have had huge progress too. People's life have
become much easier and comfortable. Here are detailed timeline
and of all essential oils inventions I during this period.
4. 1980-color
television replaces
black and white in
American Homes
Cinema retained the
monopoly on color moving
images during the televisions
first time three decades .This
help to keep audience going
to films but it also whetted
the public appetite for colour
on television.. The television
image was lower in
resolution in those days with
the BBC1 image comprising
405 horizontal lines.
Television, led to the closure
to the mini cinemas in the
1950's as well as having
similarly negative impacts on
national magazines pubs and
night clubs.
5. 1981-MS DOS
"Life begins with a disc
drive ".-Tim Paterson on
August 12 ,1981, IBM
introduce it's new
revolution in a box, the
"Personal Computer "
complete with a brand
new operating system
from Microsoft, a 16 bit
computer operating
system called me MS DOS
1.0..The operating system
or 'OS is the foundation
software of a computer,
and present a default
interface to the user
between applications.
6. 1981-The first
IBM-PC was
invented
On August 12,1981, IBM release
the new computer, rename the
IBM PC. I The first name 'Acorn',
something as a code name the
PC stood for the personal
Computer making IBM
responsible for popularizing the
term PC. The first IBM PC ran on
a 4.77 MHz Intel microprocessor.
I The PC came equipped with
16kilobytes of memory,
expandable to 256k. The PC
came to 160k floppy disk drives
an optional color monitor. The
prize tag started to at
$1565,which would be nearly
$4000 today.
7. 1982-Compact
Disc(CD)
invented
By autumn 1982 The CD
momentum had been
building for a while but it
was a October first that
Sony launched it's first
player the CD-101, along
with the first album
format.
8. 1983-The Apple
Lisa was
invented
The Apple Lisa -also known
as the Lisa -is a personal
computer design by apple
computer Inc.(now
Apple,)during the early
1980's. The Lisa was first
introduced on January
19,1983 and cost
US$9,995($21,693.67 in 2009
dollars. It was the second
personal computer and
system with the graphical
user interface(GUI) to be
sold commercially, the first
being a the Xerox star. It
used Motorola 68000 CPU at
a 5 MHz clock rate and had
1mb RAM..
9. 1984-The Apple
Macintosh was
invented
On January, 24,1984, Apple
announced the Macintosh to
its board of Directors-and to
the world. I The tiny
computer was a radical
departure from the large Lisa
with its 12 screen, just as
Lisa it's self had been a huge
departure from the Apple II
series and the growing up
family of MS Dos Computers
on the market. In 1984most
of the computer on the
computer market, eve DOS
ones, shipped with 64 kb or
128 kb of memory and had
one or two 5.25 "floppy
drives.
10. 1984-CD ROM
was invented
When Sony and Phillips
invented the compact disc
CD in the early 1980's ,even
they couldn't imagine what a
versatile career of
information it would
become. CD-ROM followed
1984,but it took ages years
longer to gain the
widespread acceptance
enjoyed by the audio CD.
This consumer reluctance
was mainly due to the lack
of compelling contents
during the first few years
that the Technologies was
available.
11. 1985-Windows
program was
invented by
Microsoft
On November 10, 1983 at
the plaza hotel in New York,
city, Microsoft formally
announced Microsoft
windows a next generation
of operating system that
would provide a graphical
user interface (GUI)a multi
tasking environment for IBM
computers. Microsoft
promised that the new
product would be on the self
by April 1984,but they finally
shipped windows on 20th
November and 1985,almost
2years passed initially
promised release date
12. 1986-Fuji
introduced the
disposable
Camera
We call them
disposables but the
people who make
this cameras want
you to know that
they are committed
to recycling parts, Its
message they have
attempted to convey
by calling their
products 'single -use
cameras.
13. 1987- The first
laptop was
invented
The Toshiba T1000 was a
laptop computer
manufactures by Toshiba
corporation I in 1987.It had a
similar specification to the
IBM PC convertible, with a
4.77 MHz 80 CFF processor,
512 kb of RAM, and
monochrome CGA
compatible LCD. Unlike the
convertible, it includes the
standard serial port and
parallel port, connector for
external monitor, and real
time block.
14. 1988-Digital
cellular phones
was invented
PCS(personal
communication services)
: use to describe a newer
class of wireless
communication services
recently authorized by
the FCC. PCS system use a
different radio frequency,
the 1.9GHz band, cellular
phones and generally
used all digital
technologies and for
transmission and
reception.
15. 1989-High
definition
Television was
invented
HDTV is version that has
resolution substantially
higher than that of
traditional television systems
(standard of definition
television ) .HDTV has 1 or 2
million pixels per frame,
roughly five times that of SD
(1280x720=921,600 for 720p
or 1920 x 1080=2,073,600 for
1080p). Early HDTV
broadcasting internet used
analog techniques, I but
today HDTV antenna is
digitally broadcast using
video compression.
16. 1990-The world
wide web and
internet protocol
(HTTP)and WWW
language were
created by Tim
Berners-Lee
Before there was the public
internet there was the
Internets forerunner
ARPAnet or advance
research project agency
networks .ARPAnet was
funded by United States
military after the Cold War
with the aim of having a
military command and
control center that could
withstand nuclear attack.
