The Lions Club of Dhaniakhali started an adult education program called "SAKSHARATA MISSION" on October 28, 2013 with 15 students who were maids and housewives. The program aimed to teach basic literacy skills like writing on a blackboard and reading stories aloud. Over time, the number of students increased to 27 then 32 as the program introduced new activities. The club provided the room and initial funding of 3,600 rupees while volunteers served as teachers. Their goal was for students to be able to read novels independently within a few months by practicing reading books and magazines that would be shared amongst the students.

and the students are pronouncing. They grew in
number now they are 32

Now the Trainers are telling them stories. The next
course : 3-4 students will read out the stories and
others will listen.

We believe that within one or two months they will be able to
read the Story/Novel. We observed that only learning the
alphabet by writing in the class, is not sufficient. Due to
dearth of practice they will not be able to sign or write
comfortably. So reading is essential to be familiar with
alphabets.

• Our next course will be providing them
books, magazines, and those books will
be re circulated amongst the students.
By this :
• 1) They will enjoy the new
stories/novels.
• 2) They will be attached with regular
study.

• Project Cost:
• The room provided by the Club (Lions Club of
Dhaniakhali).
• The initial project cost was only 3600/=, for
the cost of Black Board, Books and Copy
books.
• Trainers (2) are serving voluntarily (one of
them is Lion member and other is from the
community.

• Novels and Story books will be collected
from community and Lion families. Few
books will be purchased, cost of that
will be around 5000/= only.
• 2 Get together will be organised in a
year to encourage the participants. Cost
of that will be around 12000/=

• It will be a low cost project
• Basic literacy will increase in the
community, specially in the down
trodden families.
• Lions will be able to create a
bondage with that group of people.
