Progressive Era Essays
Crafting an essay on the subject of the Progressive Era is a task that demands considerable effort
and attention to detail. The Progressive Era was a complex period in American history marked
by significant social, political, and economic changes. Therefore, any essay on this topic requires
extensive research to grasp the various aspects of the era comprehensively.
One of the challenges in writing about the Progressive Era is navigating its multifaceted nature.
From the rise of social reform movements to the emergence of new political ideologies and the
impact of industrialization, there are numerous interconnected themes to explore. Balancing
these different elements while maintaining coherence and clarity in the essay can be quite
challenging.
Furthermore, analyzing the Progressive Era requires delving into primary sources, historical
documents, scholarly articles, and interpretations from different historians. Synthesizing these
diverse perspectives into a coherent argument requires critical thinking and analytical skills.
Moreover, crafting a compelling thesis statement that encapsulates the essence of the Progressive
Era and effectively guides the essay's direction is crucial. The thesis must be supported by well-
researched evidence and analysis to persuade the reader of its validity.
Additionally, ensuring proper citation and adherence to academic writing standards adds another
layer of complexity to the task. Properly integrating quotes, paraphrases, and citations while
maintaining the flow of the essay is essential for academic integrity.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the Progressive Era is a challenging endeavor that demands
thorough research, critical thinking, and effective writing skills. However, with dedication and
perseverance, it is possible to produce a well-crafted essay that offers valuable insights into this
pivotal period of American history.

Dst Is Bad For Everyone s Health
The most convincing premise is P2. This sub argument seems to be intended as
deductive because the author suggests that this premise is conclusively supported by
using forceful language to state that DST is certainly bad for everyone s health, as
opposed to possibly being harmful. In this case, the argumentis invalid. It can be true
that DST causes adverse health effects but for some people to not suffer from these.
Therefore, the conclusion that DST is bad for all people s health is false despite the
premises being true. However, if the argument is to be taken as non deductive it
becomes more convincing. The article gives probable evidence that DST is bad for
people s health because it puts people at risk of suffering these negative effects.
Therefore, the argument is strong because the conclusion is probable. Furthermore,
there is no reason to disbelieve the research that provided this information, including
the sub sub argument: early morning sunlight is important for those affected by SAD,
DST short changes these early morning hours which is why DST negatively affects
people with SAD. Therefore, assuming the background research is true, this argument
is cogent. While there may be counter arguments involving people whose health is
not affected, this argument is convincing because it is probable that something which
is linked to damaging people s health is bad for people s health.
To evaluate the least effective argument, let s consider P6. Again, this argument is
The Effect Of Fine Motor Skill ( Or Finger Dexterity )
Finger dexterity
Introduction
Fine motor skill (or finger dexterity) is the coordination of small muscle movements,
usually involving the synchronization of hands and fingers with the eyes. The
complex levels of manual dexterity that humans exhibit can be attributed to and
demonstrated in tasks controlled by the nervous system. Everyone uses their hands
and fingers whether it be for professional uses or not everyone is always trying to
improve their finger dexterity (Muellbacher, 2009).
The motor cortex is the region of the cerebral cortex involved in the planning, control,
and execution of voluntary movements. The motor cortex also controls everything
that has to do with finger dexterity, and hand or arm movement and the nervous
system. And it is very important to know this because the term motor control will be
used and it doesn t mean the motor control that is used more often, the term is used to
symbolize the brains motor cortex that controls all of the hand and finger movement
(Muellbacher, 2009).
There are three major parts to the motor cortex, the Primary Motor Cortex is the main
contributor to generating neural impulses that pass down to the spinal cord and
control the execution of movement; however, some of the other motor areas in the
brain also play a role in this function. the Premotor Cortex is responsible for some
aspects of motor control, possibly including the preparation for movement, the
sensory guidance of movement, the spatial guidance of reaching,
The Article Market Valuation Of Accrual Components By...
The article Market Valuation of Accrual Components by Rick Francis tries to focus
on the numerous aspects of capital market research in terms of financial accounting to
enlighten the theme knowledge of the performance of cash flows and accruals for
maintaining equity valuation. To know the empirical evidences which help to
understand the market condition, market price and the cash flow of accruals is the
main objective of this paper. In his journal he suggested the analysis of financial
calculation will find the study easy because of evaluation accrual elements as well as
cash flows before represents some recommendations for equity securities. The study
also provide some basic concept to the financial accounting standards Board (FASB)
regarding the issues of utility on accounting information by focusing equity investors
as well as perception of accrual elements of earnings. The record of this paper support
preliminary hypothesis which is valuation for other current accruals is not greater
than the receivable accrual. Furthermore, the outcomes of this paper are founded
relevant with investor findings gains and losses which are associated to the equity
valuation. In some point to run the study the author found that cross sectional and
temporal issues for measuring accruals components are problematic for the both
primary and secondary and this may constrain in this article which may cause for
identifying the null hypothesis incorrectly. The outcomes also suggest that
The Impact Of Technology And Modern Architecture
Technology and Modern Architecture How has it changed the Architects way of
thinking? Ali Alzahrani Arizona State University Imagine that everything in the life
is operated by computers including people basics duties such as cooking, washing,
working, or even thinking instead of the person. It could be something magnificent
for some people, but others would think that technology would worsen people s
lives. Lawler (2005) writes Technology is a problem because we cannot do without it
and our use of it clearly makes us both better and worse (p.194). In other words, the
problem of technology is that it is essential in our lives, but it has negative and
positive effects on us. A look around our everyday surroundings tells us that
technology is ubiquitous, and it almost exists in every aspect of people s lives and
architecture is not an exemption from this. Architects cannot move forward in their
designs if they neglect the crucial need of technology nowadays. At the same time,
this technology has affected architects work in general. While some people allege
that technology has not affected the architects manner of thinking, others agree that it
has negatively affected the way that architects think. Also, it has changed the manner
in which architects present and deal with their designs. Decreasing the creativity on
starting concepts and impacting the designers imaginations are two ways in which

The Small family finds out that the house had a century old legend, where two
fugitive slaves, trying to escape, had been killed by bounty hunters. Also killed,
was Dies Drear, the abolitionist who had made the house into a station of the
Underground Railroad. The ghosts are still said to walk the rooms of Drear
House. When they get to their house, they meet new people like the Darrow s and
the scary land lord, Mr. Pluto, who Thomas thinks is the devil. While they were
living in Drear House, it was obvious some one did not want them to be there. They
got many threats and damage to their house. In the end, Thomas and his Father

how the Darrow s are trying to take over the treasure Mr. Pluto had. So, Thomas,
his Father, Mr. Pluto, Mr. Pluto s son, and some of their friends scared the Darrow

slavery and the Underground Railroad, while also having an entertaining fictional

children could travel hundreds of miles on foot through enemy land. I found out that
they were brave beyond belief. Perhaps with this book I have at last touched them

The Safety Of Nascar Great Dale Earnhardt
NASCAR is one of the biggest sports in the United States. It is also one of the more
dangerous sports. Within the past 20 years alone we have lost NASCAR great Dale
Earnhardt as well as fourth generation driver Adam Petty to fatal crashes on the
track just to name a few. Earnhardt s death came as he hit the wall going at 160
miles per hour at the 2001 Daytona 500. Petty lost his life in a fatal crash at the New
Hampshire Speedway during a practice run. Petty lost control of his car crashing
head on into the turn three wall. Both of these accidents killed the drivers instantly
when they collided with the wall fracturing their skulls. From these tragedies rose
many new safety features such as the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER)
barrier and the Head and Neck Support (HANS) device. But even with all of these
safety improvements there still have been drivers injured in crashes. So what can
NASCAR do to further ensure the safety of their drivers? Actually there is a lot
that NASCAR can do and some of it is a lot simpler then what we have anticipated.
After Kyle Busch broke his leg in a wreck at Daytona in February of 2015.
NASCAR talked about increasing the amount of SAFER barrier walls on the track.
Instead of having the SAFER barrier in only the corners of the tracks NASCAR has
started to talk about putting it on every wall even in the infield of the track. Also
they have considered getting rid of the grass around the track simply because when
drivers are sliding and
Origins of the Second World War in Europe
To uncover the origins of the Second World War is a difficult task and to
summarize it, even more so, but this is exactly what historian P.M.H. Bell does in
his astounding book The Origins of the Second World War in Europe. Although
Bell does a great job of providing accounts on both sides of the debate on the origins
of the Second World War, he does have his own mindset about it. In his eyes, Bell
sees the Second World War as being a thirty year war, driven by the ideology and
economics of Germany, which was not preplanned by blueprint. He outlines this very
clearly in the conclusion of his book, basing it on knowledge that he interlaid
throughout.
Bell begins this read by illustrating the theory of the thirty years war. This, ... Show

While Hitler wasn t interested in conquering the mighty USSR from the start, he did
for see an eventual war with her for her abundant resources16. Thus, the clash that the
two countries had in 1941 was long coming, but not a surprise.
Living space then, was a necessary objective in Hitler s eyes, but in order to achieve
this space he needed to develop Germany s army first. So he did. Between 1933 and
1939 the Treaty of Versailleswas secretly avoided to massively increase the size of
the German army, from 100,000 to 300,00017. The Luftwaffe, German air force,
also rapidly increased and by 1940 it was the strongest among all the European
powers. The German war machine was impressive, in just six years it went from
being the weakest army to one of the strongest18. However, this created a vicious
circle in terms of foreign policy for Germany: Hitler wanted living space, so he
built up the army. However, in order to pay for this rapid rearmament, he had to
conquer territories. Thus, Hitler made war profitable and a key part of the foreign
policy of Germany19.
To sum up, Hitler s Germany lived on a balanced diet of economics and ideology.
On the one hand, Hitler s ideology called for living space for his great Aryan race.
However, on the other hand, economics were the backbone of building an army large
enough to acquire it. This resulted in Hitler conquering many new lands for his cause.

Value of Time
The value of Time
The value of time is limitless, it cannot be measured. The value of time arises from
the fact that human life is short but he has to do a lot of works within the short span
of time. Each work requires some time. If the work is not finished in time, it may not
be finished at all. That explains why time is so valuable and it should not be lost for
nothing.
Tome goes on like the tide of a river and it never waits for anybody. Lost time can
never be found again. Misuse of time is a great crime and it makes life barren like a
desert. He is really great who makes the most of every moment in useful works.

It moves. What was yesterday is not today. What is today will not be tomorrow.
Yesterday is gone. Today is and tomorrow is yet to come. Yet time is said to have no
holiday. It exists always.
The entire creation moves on according to a time pattern. There is birth, growth
and death. There is time for everything. Plants flower and give fruits. Seasons come
according to time. A child is born, grows into boyhood, adolescence, youth, middle
age and old age according to age and time. Every movement of creation is linked
with time. One cannot grow paddy in a month nor can a child become an adult in a
year. Everything is fixed to a time frame.
Time is a free force. It does not wait for any one. It is commonly said that time and
tide waits for no man. Time is money. A minute not usefully spent is an eternal loss.
You can never get back the lost minute. One has to strike the iron when it is hot. The
time flies and never returns. If you waste time it wastes you.
Time is the best medicine , says Ovid. It is said that time heals all wounds and it
even heals what reason cannot. All human beings are emotional. When negative
emotions like fear, anger, envy and jealousy overtake them, they lose reason and act
in haste leading to serious consequences. They may repent later, as emotions cool
down. But the damage done is done and remains forever. Even that damage can heal
with the passage of time. People involved may forget and forgive. That is the

Romero had entered a boarding school for priests at the age of thirteen. Then he

his voice of power in the Church and in the country to speak up for the poor. When
important political figures in the country told him to be quiet and to stop speaking

citizens of El Salvador. He should be remembered as a strong willed advocate.
Г“scar Romero did not give up, As a Christian, he remarked on one such occasion, I

speakers of endangered languages are making efforts to preserve and even bring

As the movie opens Bruno is playing in the streets of Berlin as he returns home to
find his families belongings being packed away and is told his father, a soldier,
has been promoted and the family will be moving with him to his new job in the
countryside. After hurting himself at his new abode and being tended to by Pavel
(who he believes to be a farmer), he learns that he used to be a doctor, and makes
the assumption he chose to become a farmer because he was bad at it. When Bruno
sneaks off to adventure he finds the farm that he can see from his window. He meets
a boy, Shmuel, who he forms a tentative friendship with, that is until Bruno is left
unsheltered with his tutor and exposed to tremendous amounts of propaganda and
the camp is not a farm, but for Jews. When Shmuel worked in the home, Bruno gave
him food, but when he caught talking to him he blames Shmuel who is then beaten.
Soon after, Bruno s Mother finds out from a soldier that the propaganda about the
camps is fake, and the heavy smoke near their house is from the mass cremation of
dead Jews. When she mentally deteriorates after learning what her husband does is

There are three basic approaches by which DP steels are produced commercially:
1. During the hot rolling cycles, only dual phases can be formed.
2. Hot or cold rolled strip is uncoiled, and continuous annealing is done at the
Intercritical annealing temperature.
3. Batch annealing could also be done. Hot or cold rolled strip is annealed under

Mark Twain Satire
Satire can be used in many ways, although it is not always done in a convincing
manner. Only a knowledgeable and creative writer can influence people through this
device. Satire often uses humor to show a current problem, and in most cases, it does
not provide a solution but is the catalyst for it. Emotions on the topic are prompted
and in turn the audience connects with the writer and the conflict at hand.
Throughout history authors have wielded the literary devices of satireto convey a
message; mockery, irony, overstatement, and understatement can be the most
effective by shedding light on an issue in an unusual way. The most common and
effective device of satire is mockery. In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark
Twain, the author uses satire as the foundation of the novel, utilizing mockery the
most often. Early on in the novel, when Huck and Jim meet, Huck is questioning
Jim about what his plan is to do with his money and Jim responds with his idea that
his friend Balum came up with, In church he hear de preacher say dat whoever
give to de po len to de Lord, en boun to git his money back a hund d times (Twain
49). This mockery is effective because it is talking directly about an issue. Twain is
mocking the old Catholic church and also the people that sometimes blindly
followed it. In the 1500s the church was accused of offering its people the right to
buy their way to heaven. In Jim s case, the church is saying that if anyone donates
money, they will in return
Capitalism In Brave New World
Evolution is a natural process of the world. Dinosaurs are no longer in existence,
and the giant pandas are not too far behind. Yet when it comes to humans, people
have trouble acknowledging that the human race, too, will have to come to an
end; or as Kurzweil predicts, will have to adapt into something better in terms of
evolution. However, the current state of society, in which everyone is strung on a
hierarchy until the day he dies, the singularity will produce a less that favorable
result. Though inevitable and imminent, the singularity will make people
increasingly unhappy by enhancing the socially constructed hierarchies that
separate us from free will (Singularity). Capitalism prevents us from valuing
ourselves, which is why we aren t happy. In Brave New World, it is obvious that
capitalistic ideals drive the society, in which their sole purpose is to consume, as
they believe that [one] can t consume much if [one sits] still and [reads] books
(Brave New World 50). The desire to produce, consume, and earn money at the end
of it all makes us stray from the activities that bring people the most pleasure. We are
so caught up in making money and getting ourselves higher on the never ending
hierarchy that the idea of leisure and happinessis forgotten. Though the technology
that supports capitalism is thought to be highly developed and is a result of our most
intellectual advances, the reality is that we are becoming reliant on technology in
order to make us happy;
Dwight D. Eisenhower s Argumentative Analysis
Eventually, another Dwight D Eisenhower like federal push will be necessary to
modernize our ailing automotive infrastructure. Otherwise, the horrendous service
we have today will keep us in a perpetual state of just below outrage. The problem,
this time around, will be aesthetics. In 1956, the Federal Aid Act yielded essentially
immediate ostensible results; you could see workers actually making roads where
before there was mud and nothing else. When we modernize roads in the future,
people will not be able to see much change. In fact, aside from widening some
criminally narrow roads, and maybe a few additional routes where appropriate; before
and after pictures will likely be pretty much identical. Again, Eisenhower left an

Most of the amendments will be technological or educational in nature, basically
people need to learn to drive better, and technology can help with and with more
innovative things. Going back to the Google of it all, they are exposing a rather
interesting hypocrisy that even they have not vocalized. We are being so stringent
with the education of autonomous autos, without introspectively examining the
educational system in place for human drivers, which is awful in the US. I have more
on that, but that will be for another article. If people drove as well as autonomous
autos have to before hitting public roads, they would not be needed to alleviate the
existing congestion. The other (the first being autonomy) industry altering
advancement is one that our current infrastructure not ready for; the extensive
electrification of our automotive industry. Granted, Tesla has forced the country to
conform to some degree, but it nascent at best. Honestly, it might even be a step in
the wrong direction, in that even at peak efficiency, superchargers will always be
massively inconvenient. The technology to make charging lanes is already
theoretically possible, it only needs to be improved
Persuasive Essay About Softball
The size of the ball, the speed of the pitch, and the distance from the mound to the
plate all are variables of deciding which one is harder, softball or baseball? Debates
break out all over the world with people fighting why softball is a sport made for
girls. There is no real reason why the inventor of softball made it a bigger ball just
for girls, but the difference is clearly noticeable. Studies show that most professional
baseballplayers have a difficulty hitting from a softball pitcher. In order to prove this

The real question is, which is harder baseball or softball? Being a biased person
can have an affect on the answer to this question. For example, if a girl is asked the
question more than likely the response will be softball, on the other hand if a boy
is asked the answer is likely to be baseball. Baseball players will fight and bicker
over how much harder baseball is because of how fast the pitcher pitches; maybe it
is difficult because the ball is smaller which makes it harder to hit. Therefore, asking
this question will lead to a tremendous
Examples Of Duality In Narrative Of The Life Of
Frederick...
The African America literary traditions continued the conversation about the
identity and endurance of the African American s that the oral traditions had
started. The oral tradition, although often reliant on the performance aspect of its
narrative contained a duality in its messages. Frederick Douglass writes in his
autobiography Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglas, about the duality in the
seemingly lively work songs and vernacular of the other slaves; While on their
way, they would make the dense old woods, for miles around reverberate with their
wild songs, revealing at once the highest joy and the deepest sadness. (342).

Extrinsic Motivation And Intrinsic Motivation
Each of the jobs requires a great amount of hard work, dedication, and varying
skills and abilities depending on the tasks they are performing. Each of the different
jobs conducted within our charitable organization include task identity, each worker
must complete their specific portion of work from beginning to end, to then pass it
on to the next employee so in the end they are all able to see a tangible result. Each
of the jobs within our charitable ogranization include the first three core job
characteristics, having skill variety, task identity, as well as a high level of task
significance.
The five employees working at our charitable agency have the ability to affect the
lives of many families, and even the ability to change people s lives and get them the
help that they need. Our agency has the ability to affect the lives of other people in a
positive way, which leads to intrinsic motivation. Intrinsic motivation occurs when
the employees have positive internal feelings that are generated by doing well, rather
than being dependent on external factors like incentive pay or compliments from the
boss, leading to motivation to work effectively.
Designing a Motivating Workplace The Job Characteristics Model As stated
previously, the five employees at our charitable agency for the most part have a high
level of skill variety, task identity, and task significance, but the two core job
characteristics in the Job Characteristics Model that need the most improvement
Essay on The Battle of Gettysburg
The Battle of Gettysburg The Civil War, much like a roller coaster, had several ups
and downs that changed the course of events. However, one dramatic turning point in
the war stands out above all others, The Battle of Gettysburg. From the beginning, the
Union was destined to become victorious through superior military tactics and a
more industrialization. However, several things must first happen to lead up to this
dramatic battle. The Civil War began at Ft. Sumter on April 12, of 1861(Military).

Both the North and South raised troops as quickly as possible and struggled with the
problem of equipping and training them(Chamberlin 18). The states recruited
volunteers and organized them into regiments. Officers were elected by the men and
commissioned by the governors(19). In the beginning the length of service was
usually short, but as soon as it became apparent that the war was not going to come to
an end anytime soon, they changed the term on enlistment to three years(Military).
As the troupes were trained, they were sent to various parts of the country. The
Northern troupes were sent to either Washington D.C. or stationed along the Ohio
River(Military). In the South, the troupes were mainly concentrated in Tennessee or
Virginia where they could threaten the Capital. Men flooded into armies in both the
North and the South. Both sides discussed strategies that they believed would help
them to achieve victory (Nash 508). The strategies that each side developed were
much different from each other because their goals in the war varied considerably.
The South had seceded and desired to create a news nation. Therefore, they had only

Construction Of The Factory Market Expansion
Mr. Verdin: I have recommended four capital projects out of the eleven submitted
for you to propose to the board of directors, they are the follwing: 1.Expansion of the
plant in Nuremberg, Germany 2.Effluent water treatment at 4 plants 3.Eastward
expansion 4.Strategic Acquisition Before I analyzed the financial data, there were a
couple assumptions that I had to make. The southward market expansion and
eastward market expansion are mutually exclusive. The southward market expansion
could not be done without the new plant in Dijon, France. Each project should have
a different risk level. A risk adjustment should be added to the WACC. The 10.6%
provided is the company s WACC, and all projects have a different risk level.... Show

8.Automation and Conveyor 9.New Plant 10.Truck Fleet Expansion 11.Water
Treatment After ranking the projects, you will notice that the #2 and #3 projects are
mutually exclusive. The southward market expansion is the better of the two choices
of market expansions, but it is not the better choice when you determine that it
requires the new plant in Dijon, France. The new plant in Dijon, France Is #9 out of
11. So the eastward market expansion was selected, and the plant expansion had to be
picked because of the increase in product that was necessary. Appendix A has the
financial details for the combination of these projects. Each project must meet a
minimum acceptable IRR and a maximum acceptable payback period. Two projects
selected do not meet both of the management committees minimum requirements.
That project is the plant expansion in Germany. The reason is because this project is
necessary for the eastward market expansion, so their financials had to be considered
in a consolidated manner. The eastward market expansion and the strategic
acquisition both meet the requirements. The other is the effluent water treatment at
four plants, but it is mandatory since it is a regulatory requirement. The other two
projects meet the minimum requirements. SECTION B Risk, size and life of the
Army Values
In the history of our great nation, the one constant factor that has separated us from
the rest of the world has been the Core Values that we uphold as a nation. The
military service has to uphold these values at all times, as both our citizens and the
citizens of countries worldwide look up to us to do so. Charles W. Pickering states,
A healthy democracy requires a decent society; it requires that we are honorable,
generous, tolerant and respectful (Pickering, Unknown). By not upholding the values
of our society, the reputation of our military, and ultimately that of our country
suffers. The way that our Army abides by these Core Values is a set of standards
known as the Army Values. The Army Values is the code by which all Soldiers

The Discovery Of The Chemical And Biomedical
Engineering
Qian Hongyan lost both of her legs due to a car accident she was in when she was
four years old. She grew up in Luilang county, Southwestern China. For numerous
years she learned to walk by balancing herself using wooden stilts and a basketball.
After several years she received prosthetic limbs from the China Rehabilitation
Research Center. Chemical and biomedical engineering have given a multitude of
people a second chance at living such as Qian. Throughout history, many instances
such as the discovery of x rays, amputation procedures, and the mass killings of
malariaand smallpox have caused the need for the medical, chemical, and
biomedical fields to grow in order to solve these problems. Through many doctors,
physicians, engineers, and scientists working together, they have created a safer
world for many by discovering new innovative tools, procedures, and medicines. The
need for newer medical tools, safer medical procedures, and more effective
medicines have caused a growth in the chemical and biomedical fields.
Background
According to the Bureau of Labor Statics, the fields of chemical and biomedical
engineering will be growing from 2014 2024. Biomedical engineering is expected
to grow 23%. The Bureau of Labor Statistics claims, In addition, the integration of
chemical and biological sciences and rapid advances in innovation will create new

Technology In Flowers For Algernon
Humans have created technology to benefit our lives. Technology helps our lives by
accomplishing tasks that are difficult without it. Occasionally, devices make
problems for us. In Flowers for Algernon Charlie had an operation to become smart
but only temporarily. He learned the truth of certain parts of his life which gave him
pained him more than helping him. In The Veldt technology was misused and killed
the parents of the Hadley family. The Sea Devil had difficulties when the man caught
the wrong fish. His net becomes an issue because the fish pulls him into the lake
nearly drowning him while being attachedto his hand. In the story by Stuart Mclean,
Dave is unable to send Christmas cards to friends as a result of being incapable of
taking the letters out of a mail box.
Flowers for Algernon has a difficulty with technology when Charlie s brain begins to
deteriorate. Scientist Dr. Nemur and neurologist/psychiatrist Dr. Strauss did an
operation on Charlie to higher his I.Q. At first, the surgery seemed to be a huge
success making Charlie even more intelligent than themselves. Later in the novel,
Charlie realizes his intelligence deteriorates and names it the Algernon Gordon Effect
. The operation did successfully able him to learn at an extreme rate although, the
more he learned, the faster his new intelligence would disappear. The technology
made Charlie smart for only a limited amount of time, this becomes burden on him.

The Importance Of Ethnicity In Schools
Teaching students about their ethnicity or even others should be enforced by the
Board of Education directors in high schools. American School Boards should
mandate a curriculum that provides multicultural and ethnic studies programs for
their students. This allows our American youth to have a wider perspective on
human interaction and historical events that lead to world we currently live in. More
specifically, in American history, it provides a foundational understanding of the
numerous ethnic backgrounds that help shape this country into a pillar of freedom
for the world to see. America was built by people from all over the globe and this
historical fact is the primary reason our educational programs should include an
understanding of all the cultures that played a role in its success.
As a child I gained limited knowledge about other ethnicities, including from my
own through family and small circles of friends. Now that I m in college I m
embarrassed by the fact that I know so little about my own ethnic background as well
as others. It s one matter to not know much about other ethnic groups, but to not
know about my own makes me feel like I m letting myself down. Schools are meant
to teach kids things they will need to know for in the future such as math, reading,
writing, science, and history. So, if ethnic studies teaches kids race, ethnicity, nation,
gender and sexuality, isn t that something kids will need to know more about in the
future. Leaning those concepts
Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen
the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of
two African Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between
Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how
they portray themselves in their own community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as
a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s racial comments in order to live
in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial background because of
the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social classgreatly
affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a
white individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the
wealthiest families in New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However,
Leonard Rhinelander appealed to have is marriage annulled due to believing his
wife to be white when he married her (135). Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was
hiding her racial background by passing as a white individual. As the trial
progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of her racial
background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones
case demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order
to obtain wealth and social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts
chosen demonstrates how racial passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry
contributes to social status.
In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that race
is not the novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story
in motion (344). Tate s decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of
the novel forbids her to elaborate on the relation between race and social class. As
a result, I disagree with certain statements from Tate s argument due to the lack of
acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate initially claims that
Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending exposure of
Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security
(Tate 344). However, Irene s fear of being spotted as a
Status of Women in India
in india When one boy is educated, one person will be wise. When one girl is
educated entire family will be wise. This is famous quote by girl education pioneer
Mahatma Phule. This underlines the importance women in society. From the time of
independence our constitution concentrated to give enough right for women. But the
problem is that women are facing many problems in this modern age of gender
equality.
The structure of Indian society is different and unique than any other. Indian society
believes in epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata more than anything else. Society

her desires and followed Rama to the forest. Girls are brought up to follow the ...

Instead, estimates show only 496 million women in the population today. This
implies that there are some 32 million missing women in India. Some are never born,
and the rest die because they do not have the opportunity to survive. Sex ratio
(number of female per 1,000 male) is an important indicator of women s status in the
society. In 1901 there were 972 females per 1,000 males, while by 1971; the ratio has
come down to 930 females per 1,000 males. In 1981 there has been only a nominal
increase in the female sex ratio within 934 females to 1,000 males. There were only
926 females per 1000 males in India according to 1991 census. |
The 2001 census indicate that the trend has been slightly arrested with the sex ratio
at 933 females per 1000 males, with Kerala at 1058 females. The sex ratio of the 0 6
age group has declined sharply from 945 in 1991 to 927 in 2001. According to
UNFPA State of world population 2005, Punjab (793), Haryana (820), Delhi (865),
Gujarat (878) and Himachal Pradesh (897) have worst child sex ratio.
Facing this problem is not easy at all. We have to make families aware about the
importance of girl child for the balance of society.

Serial Melodrama Analysis
There was a time when serial melodramas dominated the ratings board and these

the 1980 s. During this time shows like Dallas, Knot s Landing, and especially
Dynasty would dominate the Nielsen Ratings, drawing in millions of viewers each
week to discover the comings and goings on with each shows respective families.
As stated above Dynasty was one of the most popular prime time TV shows on
cable, according to the Nielsen ratings during the 1984 1985 season it come in as the
number one viewed show in American. So it was only natural that this incredibly
popular show would continue to thrive and even spawn a spinoff series, known as

Even the ads themselves were not that exciting, with the one at the bottom of the
page being a prime example. The ad itself is only 3 blown up pictures of three
characters of the show as the text mentions that Jason [Colby] is torn between his
love of two sisters . A instant problem with this promotion is that Jason Colby is
played by a 62 year old Charlton Heston, a man not particularly good looking and is
torn between two younger, much more attractive women. John Forsythe played
Heston s counterpart on Dynasty and he was a much more likable and handsome
man than Heston, and he was even older than Heston. The ad doesn t necessarily
drum up any excitement for the show itself, and the worst part is that this is a
promotion for the series premiere! To be honest it s hard not to see why the show
failed upon when nit was released, it was panned by critics and not particularly well
advertised by the network
Mary E. Wilkins Freeman s The Revolt Of Mother
Looking at the short story entitled, The Revolt of Mother by Mary E. Wilkins
Freeman, the story sets off in the late 1890 s and tells a tale about a woman by the
name Sarah Penn or Mother believed that she is doing the right thing by standing up
for what she deems is right. Back in these times, women were valued at being less of
importance. Women were only meant to take care a home, clean, and raise children.
So having the Mother title shows that she is not of any importance because she is a
woman and women didn t have titles, she was just simply referred to as mother and
nothing else. The short story takes off when Mother asks Father why men are
digging. When father pays her no attention, she becomes angry and states Look here,

Two poems by the same author Mary E. Wilkins Freeman, The Clock and Morning

In the poem, The Clock the author states that Whether the people were grave or
gay, upon a wedding or funeral day Tick tock. (Wilkins Freeman) tells readers that
time waits for no one and passes by in the blink of an eye.
How the two poems contrast each other is that even though they are talking about
time passing, in the poem Morning Light the author talks about death also and
how soon it will come for her. She also tells the readers of how lively and free she
once was in the morning light, when her Lord Love was fond of her and loved her.
(Wilkins Freeman). Now that she is became older she believes that his brother Lord
Death was pursuing her now, He may be my Lord Death, his brother; the likelihood

The Spanish colonists provided an entire new selection of food to the Taino s. The
spanish conquistadors brought pigs, chicken, many new vegetables, wheat and
sugar cane. These new items of food from the spanish had a major impact of
modern day Puerto Rico food. Another group of people to influence the food of
Puerto Rico was the African slaves. Juan Garrido was a free African Spaniard man
who was the first African to live in Puerto Rico. Garrido was the first person that
taught the Taino s who to grow wheat properly. Africans are believed to be the ones
that brought rice into the Taino diet. A Puerto Rican breakfast mainly consists of
some sort of pastry or bread and a coffee and milk. Breakfast is not major meal in
the Puerto Rican diet. Two pastries are Mallorca and quesito. Mallorca is a light

The Stanley And Clinton On The Virtues Of Mentorship
Essay
Introduction
The Stanley and Clinton set out to expound on the virtues of mentorship. The premise
of their argument is that leaders need to finish with a strong legacy. Therefore,
leaders need to be mentored as well as mentor people under them. Stanley and Clinton
define a proper understanding of mentoring, as well as, detail four types of mentoring
relationships: intensive mentoring, occasional mentoring, passive mentoring, and
peer mentoring, all of which will assist a leader in leaving a lasting legacy for future
generations.
Mentoring
Stanley and Clinton believe that anyone can be a mentor. The authors stress the basic
requirement for being a leader is, he has learned something from God and is willing
to share with other what he has learned (Stanley and Clinton, 1992, p. 29). The
basis of Stanley and Clinton s argument is that the desire to pass on lessons learned
to others is the primary stipulation for being a mentor. Everyone has learned lessons
from life experiences, but mentoring is the desire to impart the wisdom gained from
those experiences to others. In fact, Stanley and Clinton (1992) define mentoring as,
A relational experience in which one person empowers another by sharing God given
resources (p. 33). In other words, mentoring is entrusting wisdom gained from life
experiences to another person through a shared relationship. Mentoring is more than
passing on information, it is being personally invested in the success of the other
person.

However, there is plenty to do and see in the city itself and the scenic surroundings.
There is a lot to Medellin that the international community does not see. Medellin is
also home of Fernando Botero, as well as the annual Flower Festival, a huge event
that takes place in the city in late July and early August. Fernando Botero, the most
famous man in the artistic world from Latin America is from Medellin. Botero s work
can be seen scattered throughout the city. A mural decorates a metro station, and
museums have many of his paintings.
The Flower Festival, is also a major attraction in Medellin. It takes place at the end
of July and it lasts until early August. This huge annual event is opened with about
7,000 campesinos parading through the city on horseback. Groups or individuals
may have a theme or motto, such as peace, but other prefer to linger along the route
provoking cheers from the large audience. Others gallop, or dance their horses
decorated in all types of colors and of different sizes for the duration of the parade
which goes on for about eight hours.
I admit I was nervous walking though a city with such an infamous past when I

cautious about exploring the city. Things may be slightly better since Pablo Escobar

Review of The Union, the Confederacy, and the Atlantic...
The American Civil War seen by many as one the most catastrophic loss of life to
have taken place in the Western Hemisphere except for the Revolutionary Wars.
Accordingly, the Civil War placed some of the European countries at odds on how
to intercede; for fear that their support of the south could be seen as a support of
slavery, and thus the prospect of war with the union. Mays book covers different
opinions from different writers such as Howard Jones, R.J.M. Blackett, Thomas

Undeniably, the British had a long standing fear that Lincoln might use the
Emancipation of the slaves and start a revolt which could grow into a race war, and
thus threatened the British Empire. Indeed, it is no wonder that some back
benchers in parliament cheered as a Tory MP stated, The great republican bubble
had burst. (p.137). The Union minister in London Charles Adams became so
alarmed at the prospect that he wrote in 1862, The great body of the aristocracy and
commercial class are anxious to see the U.S. go to pieces. (p.137) Without a doubt,
the thought of losing Victorias empire was certainly present in the minds of Russell
and Gladstone, who felt the need to intervene on humanitarian and economic
grounds. Both men and the British press chastised Lincoln for his eagerness to free
the slaves in only the Confederacy without computation the consequences. Arguably,
for this reason Russell and Gladstone sought to enlist the aid of Napoleon III to act
in concert in recognition of the south, to compel both sides to stop the war. Jones
heartily suggests that Russell, although a capable diplomat, failed to understand the
complexities and possible fallout of British recognition of the south. He stresses that
recognition would have changed the country as a whole, and would see British
support of slavery as a contradiction

Why Did Icarus Lose His Son
The world doesn t give you what you ask for, it gives you what you deserve. People
s words and actions can ruin their character. Daedalus actions, words, and
descriptions caused him to lose his child, Icarus. Pride and punishment is theme in
Daedalus and Icarus. With this contingency, Daedalus actions caused him to lose
his son. In Ovid s story, one of his actions were that he went first. Instead of letting
his son go first, he went causing his son to get left behind. Since he put his life and
ego before his child, he no longer has a son. Pride is like a knife it can cut you deep
inside, words are like weapons they harm at times. Daedalusgave Icarus advice before
they took flight because he didn t think he would survive. It seemed
Ducks Unlimited Vs. Delta Waterfowl
Ducks Unlimited vs. Delta Waterfowl Even though there are many ways to
conserve waterfowl, there technically are not any wrong ways. However, one could
argue that there are better ways. That debate rages on between sportsmen and
environmental conservationists alike. There are two big organizations when it
comes to conserving waterfowl and wetlands, Ducks Unlimited and Delta
Waterfowl. Both groups are able to raise millions of dollars for waterfowl due to
their enormous amount of members. However, I feel that Ducks Unlimited is the
better conservation group because they can maintain and manage the landscape of an
ecosystem effectively, and they are a greater political force compared to Delta
Waterfowl. Ducks Unlimited was founded by Joseph... Show more content on

Ducks Unlimited tries to revert these watersheds back to their natural levels by
draining the wetlands that have extremely high levels of contaminants in the water.
They then clean the soil in the habitat and find a way to decrease the extra
contaminates from entering the watershed. Next they will pump healthy water
back into the wetlands and install buffer strips that act like a filter that will catch
the extra nutrients and silt. The restoration of grasslands and forests is extremely
important when it comes to breeding grounds for ducks. Dabbling Ducks use the
tall grass found around ponds or in marshes to build nest and raise their young.
Diving Ducks will flock to flooded forest areas and build a nest inside the holes of
a tree and they will raise their young from above the ground. In recent years these
habitats have been reduced significantly for farming and other purposes. In order to
restore these habitats Ducks Unlimited must first purchase the land from the
landowner. After they have the rights to the property they will begin to make
changes to the area so it can be a more suitable ecosystem for waterfowl. When
restoring grasslands Ducks Unlimited will replant the local grasses and dig ponds in
the area, these actions will help hatchlings survive to adulthood. After these properties
have been restored Ducks Unlimited will donate the land to government agencies that

King Henry V Character Analysis
Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce
good leaders. However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is
acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England. Henry has a valid claim to the
French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some
convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the
French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a
young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was
young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper
ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he
seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct
causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause
him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When
Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as possible,
and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry
becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important
morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age.
Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the
siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once
more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). By addressing the
soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as far
as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they
respond as motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold
his/her head higher than his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more
popular when he/she considers all people equally. Also, Henry is loved by the
Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of Canterbury and the Bishop
of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church, the Bishops
mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the
Church (1.1.24 25Whn Henry gains piety after his father s
What Is Oprah Winfrey A Role Model
What is a role model? A person whose behavior, lesson or success is or can be
emulated by others, particularly by younger people. A character model can be an
educator, civic leaders, mothers, father, clergy peers or ordinary people you come
across in your daily life. A role model should have passion and the ability to inspire
others, a clear set of values, ability to overcome obstacles and selflessness and
acceptance of others. Yet, as I come upon a role model their necessity remains
knowledgeable and well rounded and have humility and willingness to admit
mistakes.
Oprah Winfrey, have sufficiently influenced my life. I love the way she moved past
all her obstacles at an early age, overcoming adversity to become a benefactor to
others. Oprah ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That alone was unhealthy, but when you imagine her surviving molestation by
family, and having a child by the age of 14, which died of premature death. Also,
having a family member sells the story about your dead son to the National
Enquirer in 1990. You feel the hurt, harm and pain she endured so early in life.
Later, Oprah was sent to reside with the man known to be her Father Mr. Vernon in
Nashville, Tennessee he was firm, but encouraging and made her education a
priority, after that Oprah life begin to flourish and life occurred healthier. I marvel
how Ms. Winfrey felt at that time, per her father taking her in and show her true
love as a father should, to help influence her life to shape her self esteem, self
image, confidence and feelings of men. Whereas, at that point she had only known
men to take advantage of her. So, I can relate to Oprah for, I also was passed from
house to house as a child being physical, mentally and sexually abuse and I know
how challenging it can be to forgive those who hurt and abandoned you. To not be
the victim, but victorious and to allow your story to be a testimony to others, to be a
giver when life has stolen so much from
The Change to Trade Routes Over Time
In 300 C.E., trade routes were primarily between Europe and North Africa. The way
that they changed by 1450 C.E. was that they expanded southward and westward. By
1450, these trade routes went all the way through West Africa, sub Saharan Africa,
and the Indian Ocean. One factor that was unchanged during this time period was that
the northern coast of Africawas always involved in the trade between Africa and the
rest of Eurasia. The trade networks between African and Eurasia remained very
important during this time period by means of the trade networks contributions to
the Afro Eurasian world. The ebb and flow of trade between Africa and Eurasia
during the period 300 to 1450 C.E really reflects the struggles and fortunes of the
three dominant religions in the area; Christianity, Buddhism and an upstart known as
Islam. Although Christianity and Buddhism were well established by this time, the
growth of Islam was a catalyst to many of the changes about to occur, such as new
trade partners. Christianity and Buddhism were continuities, whereas a new religion
called Islam was an example of change.
In 622 C.E., Islam was founded which helped flourish trade. The founding of Islam
amplified trade because Islam linked Swahili city states to the larger Indian Ocean
which was an important part of the trade routes between Africa and Eurasia. In the
Southern ends of the Swahili world the birth of Islam extended the impact of the
Indian Ocean trade well into the African interior.

  • 2. Dst Is Bad For Everyone s Health The most convincing premise is P2. This sub argument seems to be intended as deductive because the author suggests that this premise is conclusively supported by using forceful language to state that DST is certainly bad for everyone s health, as opposed to possibly being harmful. In this case, the argumentis invalid. It can be true that DST causes adverse health effects but for some people to not suffer from these. Therefore, the conclusion that DST is bad for all people s health is false despite the premises being true. However, if the argument is to be taken as non deductive it becomes more convincing. The article gives probable evidence that DST is bad for people s health because it puts people at risk of suffering these negative effects. Therefore, the argument is strong because the conclusion is probable. Furthermore, there is no reason to disbelieve the research that provided this information, including the sub sub argument: early morning sunlight is important for those affected by SAD, DST short changes these early morning hours which is why DST negatively affects people with SAD. Therefore, assuming the background research is true, this argument is cogent. While there may be counter arguments involving people whose health is not affected, this argument is convincing because it is probable that something which is linked to damaging people s health is bad for people s health. To evaluate the least effective argument, let s consider P6. Again, this argument is
  • 3. The Effect Of Fine Motor Skill ( Or Finger Dexterity ) Finger dexterity Introduction Fine motor skill (or finger dexterity) is the coordination of small muscle movements, usually involving the synchronization of hands and fingers with the eyes. The complex levels of manual dexterity that humans exhibit can be attributed to and demonstrated in tasks controlled by the nervous system. Everyone uses their hands and fingers whether it be for professional uses or not everyone is always trying to improve their finger dexterity (Muellbacher, 2009). The motor cortex is the region of the cerebral cortex involved in the planning, control, and execution of voluntary movements. The motor cortex also controls everything that has to do with finger dexterity, and hand or arm movement and the nervous system. And it is very important to know this because the term motor control will be used and it doesn t mean the motor control that is used more often, the term is used to symbolize the brains motor cortex that controls all of the hand and finger movement (Muellbacher, 2009). There are three major parts to the motor cortex, the Primary Motor Cortex is the main contributor to generating neural impulses that pass down to the spinal cord and control the execution of movement; however, some of the other motor areas in the brain also play a role in this function. the Premotor Cortex is responsible for some aspects of motor control, possibly including the preparation for movement, the sensory guidance of movement, the spatial guidance of reaching,
  • 4. The Article Market Valuation Of Accrual Components By... The article Market Valuation of Accrual Components by Rick Francis tries to focus on the numerous aspects of capital market research in terms of financial accounting to enlighten the theme knowledge of the performance of cash flows and accruals for maintaining equity valuation. To know the empirical evidences which help to understand the market condition, market price and the cash flow of accruals is the main objective of this paper. In his journal he suggested the analysis of financial calculation will find the study easy because of evaluation accrual elements as well as cash flows before represents some recommendations for equity securities. The study also provide some basic concept to the financial accounting standards Board (FASB) regarding the issues of utility on accounting information by focusing equity investors as well as perception of accrual elements of earnings. The record of this paper support preliminary hypothesis which is valuation for other current accruals is not greater than the receivable accrual. Furthermore, the outcomes of this paper are founded relevant with investor findings gains and losses which are associated to the equity valuation. In some point to run the study the author found that cross sectional and temporal issues for measuring accruals components are problematic for the both primary and secondary and this may constrain in this article which may cause for identifying the null hypothesis incorrectly. The outcomes also suggest that
  • 5. The Impact Of Technology And Modern Architecture Technology and Modern Architecture How has it changed the Architects way of thinking? Ali Alzahrani Arizona State University Imagine that everything in the life is operated by computers including people basics duties such as cooking, washing, working, or even thinking instead of the person. It could be something magnificent for some people, but others would think that technology would worsen people s lives. Lawler (2005) writes Technology is a problem because we cannot do without it and our use of it clearly makes us both better and worse (p.194). In other words, the problem of technology is that it is essential in our lives, but it has negative and positive effects on us. A look around our everyday surroundings tells us that technology is ubiquitous, and it almost exists in every aspect of people s lives and architecture is not an exemption from this. Architects cannot move forward in their designs if they neglect the crucial need of technology nowadays. At the same time, this technology has affected architects work in general. While some people allege that technology has not affected the architects manner of thinking, others agree that it has negatively affected the way that architects think. Also, it has changed the manner in which architects present and deal with their designs. Decreasing the creativity on starting concepts and impacting the designers imaginations are two ways in which designers

The Small family finds out that the house had a century old legend, where two fugitive slaves, trying to escape, had been killed by bounty hunters. Also killed, was Dies Drear, the abolitionist who had made the house into a station of the Underground Railroad. The ghosts are still said to walk the rooms of Drear House. When they get to their house, they meet new people like the Darrow s and the scary land lord, Mr. Pluto, who Thomas thinks is the devil. While they were living in Drear House, it was obvious some one did not want them to be there. They got many threats and damage to their house. In the end, Thomas and his Father stumble into Mr. Pluto s underground lair. Mr. Pluto s son is there, and they explain how the Darrow s are trying to take over the treasure Mr. Pluto had. So, Thomas, his Father, Mr. Pluto, Mr. Pluto s son, and some of their friends scared the Darrow s away by dressing up as ghost slaves. This story teaches the reader a lot about slavery and the Underground Railroad, while also having an entertaining fictional plot. Virginia Hamilton says, of her book, I needed to know how men, women and children could travel hundreds of miles on foot through enemy land. I found out that they were brave beyond belief. Perhaps with this book I have at last touched them the way they first touched me so long ago. 5 One of the reasons she
  • 7. The Safety Of Nascar Great Dale Earnhardt NASCAR is one of the biggest sports in the United States. It is also one of the more dangerous sports. Within the past 20 years alone we have lost NASCAR great Dale Earnhardt as well as fourth generation driver Adam Petty to fatal crashes on the track just to name a few. Earnhardt s death came as he hit the wall going at 160 miles per hour at the 2001 Daytona 500. Petty lost his life in a fatal crash at the New Hampshire Speedway during a practice run. Petty lost control of his car crashing head on into the turn three wall. Both of these accidents killed the drivers instantly when they collided with the wall fracturing their skulls. From these tragedies rose many new safety features such as the Steel and Foam Energy Reduction (SAFER) barrier and the Head and Neck Support (HANS) device. But even with all of these safety improvements there still have been drivers injured in crashes. So what can NASCAR do to further ensure the safety of their drivers? Actually there is a lot that NASCAR can do and some of it is a lot simpler then what we have anticipated. After Kyle Busch broke his leg in a wreck at Daytona in February of 2015. NASCAR talked about increasing the amount of SAFER barrier walls on the track. Instead of having the SAFER barrier in only the corners of the tracks NASCAR has started to talk about putting it on every wall even in the infield of the track. Also they have considered getting rid of the grass around the track simply because when drivers are sliding and
  • 8. Origins of the Second World War in Europe To uncover the origins of the Second World War is a difficult task and to summarize it, even more so, but this is exactly what historian P.M.H. Bell does in his astounding book The Origins of the Second World War in Europe. Although Bell does a great job of providing accounts on both sides of the debate on the origins of the Second World War, he does have his own mindset about it. In his eyes, Bell sees the Second World War as being a thirty year war, driven by the ideology and economics of Germany, which was not preplanned by blueprint. He outlines this very clearly in the conclusion of his book, basing it on knowledge that he interlaid throughout. Bell begins this read by illustrating the theory of the thirty years war. This, ... Thus, the clash that the two countries had in 1941 was long coming, but not a surprise. Living space then, was a necessary objective in Hitler s eyes, but in order to achieve this space he needed to develop Germany s army first. So he did. Between 1933 and 1939 the Treaty of Versailleswas secretly avoided to massively increase the size of the German army, from 100,000 to 300,00017. The Luftwaffe, German air force, also rapidly increased and by 1940 it was the strongest among all the European powers. The German war machine was impressive, in just six years it went from being the weakest army to one of the strongest18. However, this created a vicious circle in terms of foreign policy for Germany: Hitler wanted living space, so he built up the army. However, in order to pay for this rapid rearmament, he had to conquer territories. Thus, Hitler made war profitable and a key part of the foreign policy of Germany19. To sum up, Hitler s Germany lived on a balanced diet of economics and ideology. On the one hand, Hitler s ideology called for living space for his great Aryan race. However, on the other hand, economics were the backbone of building an army large enough to acquire it. This resulted in Hitler conquering many new lands for his cause. First there was
  • 9. Value of Time The value of Time The value of time is limitless, it cannot be measured. The value of time arises from the fact that human life is short but he has to do a lot of works within the short span of time. Each work requires some time. If the work is not finished in time, it may not be finished at all. That explains why time is so valuable and it should not be lost for nothing. Tome goes on like the tide of a river and it never waits for anybody. Lost time can never be found again. Misuse of time is a great crime and it makes life barren like a desert. Yet time is said to have no holiday. It exists always. The entire creation moves on according to a time pattern. There is birth, growth and death. There is time for everything. Plants flower and give fruits. Seasons come according to time. A child is born, grows into boyhood, adolescence, youth, middle age and old age according to age and time. Every movement of creation is linked with time. One cannot grow paddy in a month nor can a child become an adult in a year. Everything is fixed to a time frame. Time is a free force. It does not wait for any one. It is commonly said that time and tide waits for no man. Time is money. A minute not usefully spent is an eternal loss. You can never get back the lost minute. One has to strike the iron when it is hot. The time flies and never returns. If you waste time it wastes you. Time is the best medicine , says Ovid. It is said that time heals all wounds and it even heals what reason cannot. All human beings are emotional. When negative emotions like fear, anger, envy and jealousy overtake them, they lose reason and act in haste leading to serious consequences. They may repent later, as emotions cool down. But the damage done is done and remains forever. Even that damage can heal with the passage of time. People involved may forget and forgive. That is the importance of

  • 15. Mark Twain Satire Satire can be used in many ways, although it is not always done in a convincing manner. Only a knowledgeable and creative writer can influence people through this device. Satire often uses humor to show a current problem, and in most cases, it does not provide a solution but is the catalyst for it. Emotions on the topic are prompted and in turn the audience connects with the writer and the conflict at hand. Throughout history authors have wielded the literary devices of satireto convey a message; mockery, irony, overstatement, and understatement can be the most effective by shedding light on an issue in an unusual way. The most common and effective device of satire is mockery. In Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, by Mark Twain, the author uses satire as the foundation of the novel, utilizing mockery the most often. Early on in the novel, when Huck and Jim meet, Huck is questioning Jim about what his plan is to do with his money and Jim responds with his idea that his friend Balum came up with, In church he hear de preacher say dat whoever give to de po len to de Lord, en boun to git his money back a hund d times (Twain 49). This mockery is effective because it is talking directly about an issue. Twain is mocking the old Catholic church and also the people that sometimes blindly followed it. In the 1500s the church was accused of offering its people the right to buy their way to heaven. In Jim s case, the church is saying that if anyone donates money, they will in return
  • 16. Capitalism In Brave New World Evolution is a natural process of the world. Dinosaurs are no longer in existence, and the giant pandas are not too far behind. Yet when it comes to humans, people have trouble acknowledging that the human race, too, will have to come to an end; or as Kurzweil predicts, will have to adapt into something better in terms of evolution. However, the current state of society, in which everyone is strung on a hierarchy until the day he dies, the singularity will produce a less that favorable result. Though inevitable and imminent, the singularity will make people increasingly unhappy by enhancing the socially constructed hierarchies that separate us from free will (Singularity). Capitalism prevents us from valuing ourselves, which is why we aren t happy. In Brave New World, it is obvious that capitalistic ideals drive the society, in which their sole purpose is to consume, as they believe that [one] can t consume much if [one sits] still and [reads] books (Brave New World 50). The desire to produce, consume, and earn money at the end of it all makes us stray from the activities that bring people the most pleasure. We are so caught up in making money and getting ourselves higher on the never ending hierarchy that the idea of leisure and happinessis forgotten. Though the technology that supports capitalism is thought to be highly developed and is a result of our most intellectual advances, the reality is that we are becoming reliant on technology in order to make us happy;
  • 17. Dwight D. Eisenhower s Argumentative Analysis Eventually, another Dwight D Eisenhower like federal push will be necessary to modernize our ailing automotive infrastructure. Otherwise, the horrendous service we have today will keep us in a perpetual state of just below outrage. The problem, this time around, will be aesthetics. In 1956, the Federal Aid Act yielded essentially immediate ostensible results; you could see workers actually making roads where before there was mud and nothing else. When we modernize roads in the future, people will not be able to see much change. In fact, aside from widening some criminally narrow roads, and maybe a few additional routes where appropriate; before and after pictures will likely be pretty much identical. Most of the amendments will be technological or educational in nature, basically people need to learn to drive better, and technology can help with and with more innovative things. Going back to the Google of it all, they are exposing a rather interesting hypocrisy that even they have not vocalized. We are being so stringent with the education of autonomous autos, without introspectively examining the educational system in place for human drivers, which is awful in the US. Persuasive Essay About Softball The size of the ball, the speed of the pitch, and the distance from the mound to the plate all are variables of deciding which one is harder, softball or baseball? Debates break out all over the world with people fighting why softball is a sport made for girls. There is no real reason why the inventor of softball made it a bigger ball just for girls, but the difference is clearly noticeable. Studies show that most professional baseballplayers have a difficulty hitting from a softball pitcher. For example, if a girl is asked the question more than likely the response will be softball, on the other hand if a boy is asked the answer is likely to be baseball. Baseball players will fight and bicker over how much harder baseball is because of how fast the pitcher pitches; maybe it is difficult because the ball is smaller which makes it harder to hit. Therefore, asking this question will lead to a tremendous

However, one dramatic turning point in the war stands out above all others, The Battle of Gettysburg. From the beginning, the Union was destined to become victorious through superior military tactics and a more industrialization. However, several things must first happen to lead up to this dramatic battle. The Civil War began at Ft. Sumter on April 12, of 1861(Military). Both the North and South raised troops as quickly as possible and struggled with the problem of equipping and training them(Chamberlin 18). The states recruited volunteers and organized them into regiments. Officers were elected by the men and commissioned by the governors(19). In the beginning the length of service was usually short, but as soon as it became apparent that the war was not going to come to an end anytime soon, they changed the term on enlistment to three years(Military). As the troupes were trained, they were sent to various parts of the country. The Northern troupes were sent to either Washington D.C. or stationed along the Ohio River(Military). In the South, the troupes were mainly concentrated in Tennessee or Virginia where they could threaten the Capital. Men flooded into armies in both the North and the South. Both sides discussed strategies that they believed would help them to achieve victory (Nash 508). The strategies that each side developed were much different from each other because their goals in the war varied considerably. The South had seceded and desired to create a news nation. Therefore, they had only to defend themselves and wait until the North had tired itself out (Nash 515). The North, on the other hand, had to attempt to restore the Union. This meant that they had to convince the Confederates that they had no hopes in seceding from the Union and

The southward market expansion is the better of the two choices of market expansions, but it is not the better choice when you determine that it requires the new plant in Dijon, France. The new plant in Dijon, France Is #9 out of 11. So the eastward market expansion was selected, and the plant expansion had to be picked because of the increase in product that was necessary. Appendix A has the financial details for the combination of these projects. Each project must meet a minimum acceptable IRR and a maximum acceptable payback period. Two projects selected do not meet both of the management committees minimum requirements. That project is the plant expansion in Germany. The reason is because this project is necessary for the eastward market expansion, so their financials had to be considered in a consolidated manner. The eastward market expansion and the strategic acquisition both meet the requirements. The other is the effluent water treatment at four plants, but it is mandatory since it is a regulatory requirement. The other two projects meet the minimum requirements. • 28. The Importance Of Ethnicity In Schools Teaching students about their ethnicity or even others should be enforced by the Board of Education directors in high schools. American School Boards should mandate a curriculum that provides multicultural and ethnic studies programs for their students. This allows our American youth to have a wider perspective on human interaction and historical events that lead to world we currently live in. More specifically, in American history, it provides a foundational understanding of the numerous ethnic backgrounds that help shape this country into a pillar of freedom for the world to see. America was built by people from all over the globe and this historical fact is the primary reason our educational programs should include an understanding of all the cultures that played a role in its success. As a child I gained limited knowledge about other ethnicities, including from my own through family and small circles of friends. Now that I m in college I m embarrassed by the fact that I know so little about my own ethnic background as well as others. • 29. Analysis Of Passing By Nella Larsen the novel Passing, Nella Larsen explores the consequences and disadvantages of two African Americans living in a segregated society. The reconnection between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry illustrates two different paths in regards to how they portray themselves in their own community. Larsen displays Clare Kendry as a light skinned women who tolerates her husband s racial comments in order to live in a higher society. Clare s decision to secretly hide her racial background because of the desire of wanting to be accepted by individuals of an upper social classgreatly affects Irene. Clare s determination of overcoming racial barriers by passing as a white individual is similar to the Rhinelander/Jones case. In 1924 the son of the wealthiest families in New York married the daughter of a taxicab driver. However, Leonard Rhinelander appealed to have is marriage annulled due to believing his wife to be white when he married her (135). Rhinelander suspected Alice Jones was hiding her racial background by passing as a white individual. As the trial progressed it was concluded that that Rhinelander had an understanding of her racial background before marriage was an option between the two. The Rhinelander/Jones case demonstrates how Clare Kendry decided to pass as a white individual in order to obtain wealth and social status by marrying a white male. The three criticism texts chosen demonstrates how racial passing between Irene Redfield and Clare Kendry contributes to social status. In Nella Larsen s Passing: A Problem of Interpretation, Claudia Tate argues that race is not the novels foremost concern, but is merely a mechanism for setting the story in motion (344). Tate s decision to focus on the psychological ambiguity (343) of the novel forbids her to elaborate on the relation between race and social class. As a result, I disagree with certain statements from Tate s argument due to the lack of acknowledging the issue regarding race and social class. Tate initially claims that Irene s understanding of race becomes a concern when the impending exposure of Clare s racial identity threatens to hasten the disruption of Irene s domestic security (Tate 344). However, Irene s fear of being spotted as a

  • 35. The Stanley And Clinton On The Virtues Of Mentorship Essay Introduction The Stanley and Clinton set out to expound on the virtues of mentorship. The premise of their argument is that leaders need to finish with a strong legacy. Therefore, leaders need to be mentored as well as mentor people under them. Stanley and Clinton define a proper understanding of mentoring, as well as, detail four types of mentoring relationships: intensive mentoring, occasional mentoring, passive mentoring, and peer mentoring, all of which will assist a leader in leaving a lasting legacy for future generations. Mentoring Stanley and Clinton believe that anyone can be a mentor. The authors stress the basic requirement for being a leader is, he has learned something from God and is willing to share with other what he has learned (Stanley and Clinton, 1992, p. 29). The basis of Stanley and Clinton s argument is that the desire to pass on lessons learned to others is the primary stipulation for being a mentor. Everyone has learned lessons from life experiences, but mentoring is the desire to impart the wisdom gained from those experiences to others. In fact, Stanley and Clinton (1992) define mentoring as, A relational experience in which one person empowers another by sharing God given resources (p. 33). In other words, mentoring is entrusting wisdom gained from life experiences to another person through a shared relationship. Mentoring is more than passing on information, it is being personally invested in the success of the other person.

Undeniably, the British had a long standing fear that Lincoln might use the Emancipation of the slaves and start a revolt which could grow into a race war, and thus threatened the British Empire. Indeed, it is no wonder that some back benchers in parliament cheered as a Tory MP stated, The great republican bubble had burst. (p.137). The Union minister in London Charles Adams became so alarmed at the prospect that he wrote in 1862, The great body of the aristocracy and commercial class are anxious to see the U.S. go to pieces. (p.137) Without a doubt, the thought of losing Victorias empire was certainly present in the minds of Russell and Gladstone, who felt the need to intervene on humanitarian and economic grounds. Both men and the British press chastised Lincoln for his eagerness to free the slaves in only the Confederacy without computation the consequences. Arguably, for this reason Russell and Gladstone sought to enlist the aid of Napoleon III to act in concert in recognition of the south, to compel both sides to stop the war. Jones heartily suggests that Russell, although a capable diplomat, failed to understand the complexities and possible fallout of British recognition of the south. He stresses that recognition would have changed the country as a whole, and would see British support of slavery as a contradiction

  • 41. Ducks Unlimited Vs. Delta Waterfowl Ducks Unlimited vs. Delta Waterfowl Even though there are many ways to conserve waterfowl, there technically are not any wrong ways. However, one could argue that there are better ways. That debate rages on between sportsmen and environmental conservationists alike. There are two big organizations when it comes to conserving waterfowl and wetlands, Ducks Unlimited and Delta Waterfowl. Both groups are able to raise millions of dollars for waterfowl due to their enormous amount of members. However, I feel that Ducks Unlimited is the better conservation group because they can maintain and manage the landscape of an ecosystem effectively, and they are a greater political force compared to Delta Waterfowl. Ducks Unlimited was founded by Joseph... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Ducks Unlimited tries to revert these watersheds back to their natural levels by draining the wetlands that have extremely high levels of contaminants in the water. They then clean the soil in the habitat and find a way to decrease the extra contaminates from entering the watershed. Next they will pump healthy water back into the wetlands and install buffer strips that act like a filter that will catch the extra nutrients and silt. The restoration of grasslands and forests is extremely important when it comes to breeding grounds for ducks. Dabbling Ducks use the tall grass found around ponds or in marshes to build nest and raise their young. Diving Ducks will flock to flooded forest areas and build a nest inside the holes of a tree and they will raise their young from above the ground. In recent years these habitats have been reduced significantly for farming and other purposes. In order to restore these habitats Ducks Unlimited must first purchase the land from the landowner. After they have the rights to the property they will begin to make changes to the area so it can be a more suitable ecosystem for waterfowl. When restoring grasslands Ducks Unlimited will replant the local grasses and dig ponds in the area, these actions will help hatchlings survive to adulthood. After these properties have been restored Ducks Unlimited will donate the land to government agencies that

  • 43. King Henry V Character Analysis Throughout history, it has been difficult to have a dynastic succession produce good leaders. However, in William Shakespeare s Henry V, King Henry V is acclaimed as the dynastic successor to England. Henry has a valid claim to the French throne, but France already has a successor, the Dauphin. With some convincing and financing from the clergy, Henry decides to fight for his place as the French heir. In the Battle of Agincourt, Henry demonstrates strong leadership at a young age. As previously explained in Act I, Henry s father died when he was young, and Henry V gained a new demeanor and changed his wild ways into proper ethics for royalty. Henry s personality change leads to his noble leadership, and he seems to lead by example and in words even as a young king. King Henry s conduct causes him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality, impartiality, and authority cause him to be a just ruler. King Henry s morality causes him to be a just ruler. When Henry rises to the throne, he sheds his reckless personality as much as possible, and he even distances himself from an old friend, John Falstaff. King Henry becomes a morally and mentally sound king for England. Henry gains important morals for a ruler such as humility, grace, piety, and wisdom even at his young age. Henry shows a glimpse of his humility when he addresses the soldiers before the siege of Harfleur to inspire them for battle. Henry says that they all must go Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once / more (3.1.1 2). By addressing the soldiers as dear friends, Henry acknowledges them as equals and even goes as far as saying that they are his comrades. His humility is loved by his people, so they respond as motivated and united front for England. A good leader must never hold his/her head higher than his/her subjects because this makes the ruler more popular when he/she considers all people equally. Also, Henry is loved by the Church for his piety and other morals. As the Bishop of Canterbury and the Bishop of Ely discuss the bill about to be passed which would tax the church, the Bishops mention that Henry V is full of grace and fair reward. / And a true lover of the Church (1.1.24 25Whn Henry gains piety after his father s

A character model can be an educator, civic leaders, mothers, father, clergy peers or ordinary people you come across in your daily life. A role model should have passion and the ability to inspire others, a clear set of values, ability to overcome obstacles and selflessness and acceptance of others. • 45. The Change to Trade Routes Over Time In 300 C.E., trade routes were primarily between Europe and North Africa. The way that they changed by 1450 C.E. was that they expanded southward and westward. By 1450, these trade routes went all the way through West Africa, sub Saharan Africa, and the Indian Ocean. One factor that was unchanged during this time period was that the northern coast of Africawas always involved in the trade between Africa and the rest of Eurasia. The trade networks between African and Eurasia remained very important during this time period by means of the trade networks contributions to the Afro Eurasian world. The ebb and flow of trade between Africa and Eurasia during the period 300 to 1450 C.E really reflects the struggles and fortunes of the three dominant religions in the area; Christianity, Buddhism and an upstart known as Islam. Although Christianity and Buddhism were well established by this time, the growth of Islam was a catalyst to many of the changes about to occur, such as new trade partners. Christianity and Buddhism were continuities, whereas a new religion called Islam was an example of change. In 622 C.E., Islam was founded which helped flourish trade. The founding of Islam amplified trade because Islam linked Swahili city states to the larger Indian Ocean which was an important part of the trade routes between Africa and Eurasia. In the Southern ends of the Swahili world the birth of Islam extended the impact of the Indian Ocean trade well into the African interior.
