An Essay On Science
Writing an essay on the topic of science can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. On
one hand, the vastness and complexity of the subject offer a multitude of avenues for
exploration. However, this very breadth can be daunting, making it difficult to decide where to
focus and what specific aspects of science to delve into.
The challenge begins with the need for a comprehensive understanding of the diverse branches
of science, ranging from physics and chemistry to biology and environmental science. Each of
these fields comes with its own set of principles, theories, and discoveries, making it imperative
for the essay writer to grasp the intricacies of various scientific disciplines.
Furthermore, articulating scientific concepts in a clear and concise manner poses another layer of
difficulty. Balancing the need for accuracy with the requirement for accessibility to a broad
audience demands a thoughtful approach to language and explanation. Juggling scientific
terminology without alienating readers who may not have a background in science requires
skillful communication.
The research process itself can be time-consuming and intricate. Accessing reputable sources,
synthesizing information, and critically evaluating scientific studies are crucial steps in crafting a
well-informed essay. Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the scientific world is also
essential, as science is a dynamic field with constant advancements and discoveries.
Additionally, the essay should not merely be a compilation of facts; it should present a cohesive
and compelling argument or narrative. This necessitates analytical thinking and the ability to
connect disparate pieces of information into a coherent whole.
In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of science is a challenging task that demands a deep
understanding of various scientific disciplines, effective communication skills, extensive
research, and the ability to weave together complex concepts into a cohesive narrative. While the
difficulty may be daunting, the potential for learning and the satisfaction of sharing knowledge
make it a worthwhile endeavor.

The Topic Of Identity Theft
As we have progressed throughout the chapters in this course we have learned more
and more about consumer economics. The knowledge it takes to keep consumers
safe and up to date is constantly changing to allow consumers to protect themselves
from potential problems that they are aware of as well as things that are concealed.
During the last few chapters of this course one topic that really stuck out was identity
theft. It is very fascinating that people are capable of stealing so much information
people they don t even know. This information that hackers and other intelligent
people collect can change the average consumer s life as well as company s
reliability. During this essay, the topic of identity theft will be covered as a
consumer is affected as well as how cybercrimes using the same methods can affect
very large companies. This in turn will affect consumers. While researching the fact
that as technology aggressively progresses it causes many people plenty of distress
when it comes to internet and newer technology. Many companies will ask for
information based on email addresses, or information for credit cards they sign you
up for. Overall this can be extremely overwhelming for a consumer because no
consumer knows for sure if that employee working for a company is completely
trustworthy. This is a problem for not only in person transaction, but also many
transactions that happen via the internet. The reason this could be a problem in the
internet and would make

What Is The Lethal Weapon Rhetorical Techniques
Lethal Weapon is a film made by Richard Donner in 1987. It tells a story of two
policemen who become partners. Roger Murtaugh is a veteran, he has family and
he is getting older. Martin Riggs is suicidal officer who lives in a trailer with his
dog. To solve the case they need to learn how to work with one another.
Lethal Weapon is an action movie. As in almost every type of the movie viewers
can follow narration development but they become distracted by some action scenes
(like blowing something up, chasing the car etc.) and narration is suspended for a
while. We can notice the same practice for example in musicals. Action is interrupted
there by singing and dancing. But what is also really characteristic for Lethal
Weapon and what we have not seen in previous movies that we watched during
course are comic elements especially in terms of language but ... Show more content

Martin and Mr. Joshua are getting into the fist fight. This scene is absurd though it
shows development of heroes and a change that occurred in them. Murtaugh and
Riggs could kill or catch villain but instead of that Roger is letting Martin to show
his power and get into the fist fight. This scene lasts for a five minutes. After
analysis we can notice many homoerotic elements. At the beginning they are using
only their fists but they become shirtless really quickly and at one point they use
phallic weapons to fight. Water is blowing up in the air and covering everyone and
everything. That brings sexual connotations as well. It is very important to take into
consideration their moves and their acts. After connecting all the elements viewers
can notice that this scene is presented in such a way to be similar to sexual foreplay
and re figuration of a sexual act between men. But this scene threatens patriarchal and
heterosexual society. That is why threat of homosexual romance needs to be removed
by killing the villain even though he was defeated by
Thomas Hobbes Idea Of A Strong Authoritarian
Government
I think that Hobbes s idea of a strong authoritarian government would probably
justify the US policy about surveillance. Since a commonwealth is instituted mainly
to protect the people, who have singed this social contract in order to escape from
the short and poor life of the state of nature, the sovereign should do whatever it is
necessary to guarantee protection to its own citizens. In fact, as Hobbes says: if a
governmentis no longer able to keep people safe, then the social contract is no valid
anymore. So, assuming that the US policy main goal is to protect Americans from
external threatens (i.e. terroristic attacks), it is in line with Hobbes s argument.
Furthermore, Hobbes does not say that people do not have their own liberty under

assessment to determine whether there is any changes in the level of national pride
in the hosting of the Youth Olympic Gameswhich was held in 2010 in Singapore
(hereafter referred to as the Paper ).
Title
According to Gratton and Jones (2004) the title of the research is an important part of
the research process; because once a focused research question is developed than
the rest of the research method is based on answering that question. The paper
clearly sought out to answer the key areas mentioned in its title. In the results
section of the Paper discussed all the aspects in relative detail however more stress
was given to national pride of young Singaporeans as these were discussed further.
With sport and expression being arguably an essential part of this research (Jaksa,
2011; Morgan , 1997), it should have been discussed further.
Literature Review
According to Morgan (1997) the national identity can be defined by simply as how a
country think about them in reality. The literature review of the Paper gives the
reader an idea of the peoples national identity as the sense of belonging to, and
identification with, the nation; it is an incarnation of
Historic Place of the Slaughters
In the 1560s the ownership of the Florida Peninsula was hotly contested. The French
had preemptively built a small fort, Fort Caroline, near what would become
Jacksonville, Florida. In 1565 the Spanish marched from St. Augustine and took this
small fort, slaughtering some 200 people. Then, they chased down the remaining
French Huguenots near a small inlet. Believing that his men would be well treated,
the leader surrendered to the Spanish. The Spanish slaughtered them to the last man
in an act that horrified the people of the age. Thus this beautiful location became
known as Matanzas or Place of the Slaughters.
Fort Matanzas was finished by the Spanish in 1742. It was meant to guard Matanzas
Inlet, the southern end of Matanzas River. The Spanish were worried the river would
serve as a back door to the city of St. Augustine. They built it of coquina shellstone,
naturally abundant in the area. The fort is a smaller square style with walls 50
foot long on each side and a 30 foot tall high tower. On the right hand wall of the
fort a small tower overhangs the wall. This was where the sentries were posted. The
fort was armed with five cannon aimed at the inlet and manned by one officer, four
infantrymen and two gunners. The fort was only involved in one skirmish in which it
successfully drove off a British fleet.
By 1821, the fort was unlivable. Restorations began in 1916. By 1924 the fort was
stabilized and it was given National Monument status. The National Park Service

Within our Jamaican schools the guidance counseling programmes are designed to
implement core principles as stated by the Jamaican school curriculum. Guidance
counsellors are the ones who play the role of effectively analyzing and implementing
these programmes which ensure that all students are well prepared to manage these
exciting times ; every student needs support and guidance. This is imperative as they
embark upon the academic, social, spiritual and developmental challenges of
adolescence; a time of rapid growth and change. Our guidance and counselling

The Ministry of Education (2009) outlines the major components that comprise roles
and functions as: preventative, interventive, supportive administrative and pro
professional development. In order to help Jamaican students make the transition
from childhood to adulthood, the guidance counsellor s role is integral in this quest
towards the holistic development of these students. How important are these roles
and functions in the development of our children, our future? This essay seeks to
outline the major roles and functions of a guidance counsellor in our Jamaica school
setting and also to examine some of the factors which negatively impact the guidance
counsellor in his or her quest towards fulfilling these roles.
As a guidance counsellor the implementation of all the components geared towards
the holistic development of students must be considered and implemented. These
should be ongoing and emphasis should be placed on classroom guidance as well as
group and individual counselling. Ministry of Education (2009) coined preventive
measures as proactive initiatives implemented to deter the onset of individual and
group problems.
These measures and strategies will provide students and others the opportunities to
learn skills of conflict resolution and reduction. Guidance Counsellors are able to
assist in the planning, implementing and coordinating of orientation designed to
The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis
Jackie Robinson once said, A life is not important except in the impact it has on
other lives. With 7 billion other people on the planet it is easy to think one is
worthless. Most individuals feel as if they are insignificant in the world. They fail to
realize the importance of their influence on others. For example, in The Five People
You Meet In Heaven, author Mitch Albom, illustrates a bitter elderly man, Eddie. He
feels as if he is pointless and regrets his repetitious job as maintenance worker.
However, this is all changed in Eddie s journey through heaven. In the novel The
Five People You Meet in Heaven, by Albom, Eddie comes to realize how his time in
the military transformed others lives.
While in heaven, Eddie first learns how his time in the military impacted the lives
of his unit and his captain. He had immensely affected whether they had lived or
died during their time as prisoners of war. Due to his quick thinking, Eddie was
able to construct a diversion that gave him and his men an escape route. Eddie
used his juggling skills to distract the guards resulting in their flee. Without Eddie s
assistance the men would most likely not have escaped. Unfortunately, their
jailbreak also led up to the captain s death. When the men were rushing out of the
burning camp, Eddie believed he saw a person in the fire. He made several attempts
to save whoever was still in the flames. This gave the captain no choice but to shoot
his leg and then rush him to a nearby medical
MГ©tis Argumentative Essay
I believe the MГ©tis became the least unified as the result of confederation.
To begin with, in 1869, The Government of Canada, Great Britain, and the Hudson s
Bay Company sign an agreement whereby Rupert s land is sold to the Dominion of
Canada. MГ©tis, Indians, and settlers are not consulted. And this event affects at
least 10,000 Metis and other people who already living in Rupert s land.
Secondly, Louis Riel is the leader of the Metis people, Louis Riel intervened.
Believing that the MГ©tis future lay with Canada, not with the United States, he
assured the Lieutenant Governor that the MГ©tis would not join the Fenians and
he kept his word. For want of local support, the Fenian attack died before it had
begun. Archibald was prepared to leave him in peace. However, this feeling was not
shared by all and Archibald came to believe that peace would be restored more
quickly if Riel left the country for a while. Riel and LГ©pine left Manitoba on

Also, In 1937, The first MГ©tis specific organization is formed in Canada, The

Lastly, Suggestions based on today s society I think that the MГ©tis will not be the
least unified in today s society because others don t have the right to sell others land
without permission so they will not be spread.
Finally, Those are the reasons that I believe the MГ©tis are the least unified as the
result of confederation because they lost more than
Medieval Castle Weapons
The castle was an important aspect of warfare from the 10th to 13th centuries.
Castles, particularly in England, played an essential role in warfare because of the
power associated with them. Changes in castle defense are represented by two
important types of castles: the motte and bailey castle and, later, the concentric
castles. As a whole, they became more secure and fluid. Stronger materials were
necessary to ensure more powerful weapons could not penetrate the defenses easily.
In addition, more features were integrated into walls and central structures to allow
defenders to have angles to attack without weakening the defenses. This created
complexity in battle because of the increased number of angles available for shooting.
The changes that ultimately led to the concentric castlewere prompted by the rapidly
advancing technology used in weapons. The original defenses were no longer
capable of defending against them and therefore had to be fortified further. The
specific structural and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One feature is an artificial or natural mound of earthen materials, called a motte. A
motte could be up to 30 feet tall and was sometimes surrounded by a moat to keep
attackers from scaling it and breaching the main defenses. On top of the motte was
a donjon or wooden tower, the primary area of defense. There was an area on top of
the tower to allow for the garrison to shoot the attackers from a higher angle. Lastly,
a bailey was a courtyard surrounded by walls, ideally circular. Because castles were
used for residential and administrative purposes along with warfare, they had
important buildings and people to defend. There were often multiple baileys
encompassing the various buildings, but the outer bailey was the most important.
While rather simple compared to later castles, its structure was sufficient for
defending against the weapons at the
Occupational Therapy Research Paper
Occupational therapy helps to heal a multitude of disabilities; the current high
demand for therapists is somewhat due to modern issues, but some have been
occurring since the beginning of mankind. Missing a limb is one problem that has
occurred for millennium. There is documented evidence that humans have tried to
replace a missing appendage since approximately 950 B.C. Throughout time
prostheticshave mainly been produced with crude leftover supplies like wood, metal,
and leather. More recently, rapid advancements in technology have helped progress
the artificial limbfrom a beam of wood to a robotic arm controlled by the persons own

A major impetus to improving artificial limbs started when the United States
encouraged companies to improve prosthetics instead of munitions (Norton,
2007). The combination of lighter materials and robotics assist has created huge
advancements in functionality and has dramatically improved quality of life and
potential for independent living. Even with the advancement of these limbs, the
basic mechanical principals are still the same. Modern times allow for many
different types of limbs to be created. Limbs can be created to match skin tone,
freckles and fingerprints. There are three many ways a limb can be made to move.
The first is attaching the limb to a moving body part to act as a gear shifter.
Another variation is a motor attached and the person can switch modes by a
mechanical toggle shift. The most advanced movement is the myoelectric
capability. This is when electrodes are placed on the muscles of the residual limb.
When contracted the arm will move according to which electrode fired. A
microprocessor can also be attached to learn exactly how the person walks

He believed that reform would come through educating the leaders in the classics
and in his philosophy. He therefore sought a political position of influence, from
which he could implement his principles. (Zukeran) Confucius beliefs are what the
political leaders should know about, to know more about the one who would be

would be proper for them to respect Confucius and kindly reject his teachings.
Confucius also implements the idea of the rectification of names, wherein the
ruler is to be obeyed without further question. Perhaps the leaders were not able to
see the goodness in Confucius desires of being in a position in their government.
Confucius brings fear to their rule; there could be a chance to bring the current

actually executing his plans for the area of responsibility. He seeks to get a go

Confucius clearly lives by his word by not disobeying or opposing the people in

Virtual Organization Behavior
Virtual Organization Characteristics
From the definitions of virtual organization/team, it can be summarized that virtual
organization/team has four main characteristics which make it different from non
virtual organization/team:
First, cross line, virtual organization/team is centralized with a few or without
department. Business environment change makes a company or organization should
be more flexible in doing its activity. When a company should produce a high quality
product to meet their consumer needs, they could collaborate with other companies
to determine consumer needs. In this case, virtual organization/team has an important
role.
Second, resources and purpose sharing, virtual organization/team could facilitate
someone with innovative idea but has not enough resources. Amazon sells a lot of
books but they do not really have the books, they cooperate with other parties who
have the books and then sell it via Amazon.
Third, geographic dispersion, refer to any physical dispersion of team members, such
as different geographic locations or different workplaces at the same geographic
location, nationally or internationally. Virtual organization/team could maximize the
time difference advantage from its member. When a US company develops a website
they can work on it from morning to evening, and their partner in the other part of the
world (Asia, Africa, or Europe) will continue the development so it could finished
faster.
Fourth, impermanent member, one team formed
The Historical Voices Of Opera
The Historical Voices of Opera:
From 1500 century to new Milieumn
For over thousands of years, Opera has become one of the greatest musical forms.
By early 1600 s, Opera has made a major expansion all over Europe. Many singers
were very skillful and challenged of any vocal genre. Also, by this time the
audience didn t just come and see actors/actress play theatrical roles, they wanted
to hear the sweet sound of the leading voices. Mostly, the high vocal range parts
stole the show. Between 1590 to 1900, the Castrati (male sopranos) played the
leading roles as the heroines, hero and villains, but it will take decades for women
to arise from the religious and political views which caused restriction on all opera
houses to ban all women to participate on stage. Like women, soon the rise for the
castrate singers will decline and restrictions to participate on stage will come into
effect. There are four similarities between both sexes that causes a rise and fall
effect in the operatic form. First similarity is the history of the opera. According to
John Brister, before the existence of opera, each nationality has used boys, falsettos,
or eunuchs as singers to entertain and worship. Even though their voices admired by
a historical point of view, the falsetto and the eunuch didn t have appropriate
signature or sound to continue. Eventually, the Spanish and Roman church used
castrati s in 1577 1578. They carried a lighter tone similar to a woman s voice.

An Independent Judiciary
An independent judiciary allows for the protection of certain values that society
deems important. Thus this essay will critically examine the importance of an
independent judiciary within the modern day constitutional democracy of South
Africa by outlining the key reasons on why an independent judiciary is needed. The
reasons being that independent judiciary within South Africa s model of the
separation of powersis vital for the protection of South African citizens against the
abuse of public power, the protection of human rights and the fair and impartial
application of the rule of law. Then examine the limitations of an independent

Thus South Africa as a modern constitutional democracy governed by the rule of
law must guarantee judicial independence as a way to protect citizens from arbitrary
rule as well as providing assurance to citizens that the rule of law shall be upheld in a
fair and impartial manner. Institutional independence is one of the two aspects of
judicial independence and is implicitly recognized by the 1996 Constitution of the
Republic of South Africa, under s165 (2) where the judiciary is only subject to the
Constitution and the law. Thus the duty lies with all organs of state to assist the
courts in ensuring their independence, dignity, accessibility and effectiveness . An
independent judiciary does not merely have the institutional independence but also
decisional independence which allows for the courts decision making to only
consider the law and the facts of the case separate from all other external pressures or

Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night
The fight that is life is the common theme represented in all three of the following
poems, Do not go gentle into that good night by Dylan Thomas, I know why the
caged bird sings by Maya Angelou and Invictus by William Ernest Henley. This
essay will analyze these three poems in detail to find similarities and differences
between them. The three aforementioned poems seem to have more differences
than similarities between them. Such as in I know why the caged bird sings,
which is about a bird that longs for a better life, whereas in Invictus which brings
forth the idea of the author being the master of his fate. The poem Do not go
gentle into that good night is about never giving up on living; the poem Invictus is
about giving life his best shot. In Do not go gentle into that good night the main
idea is living the best life that he could; in I know why the caged bird sings the
main idea is the longing to live a better life. In the poem I know why the caged bird
sings the author uses birds as the characters; both Do not go gentle into that good
night and Invictus depict the characters as humans. All of these poems differ in
certain ways, but they share similar underlying elements such as never give up and
try to do the most in life with what is already there. These poems are separated by
period, structure, and condition, but they all share prominent similarities as well as
communicate the common idea of the fight that is life. My favorite
The Impacts Of Western Music And Its Effects On
Western...
Music plays a significant rule in our lives. It s a melody and rhythm we live in. It
plays a very essential rule in our day to day to life when it comes to expressing
feelings, passing time and for other uses as well. Though we in general may not think
about how music has changed so much in the past few decades we must acknowledge
the fact todays music is the outcome of the various change in the past. Today s
majority of music we hear is what we define as more as a westernized music.
Considering other cultures in the world, a huge impact of western music is seen
within them. Westernization and modernization are two different words with
different meanings and they have two different impacts on a society. Modernization
is used to define the improvements and show a progressive transition from one stage
to another. Westernization is the concept of being influenced by the customs and
techniques of the western society and reflecting them in a non western culture. This
essay will discuss furtherly about the impact of the western society on music cultures
of North India and Korea by looking from both the positive and negative point of this
impact.
Indian culture is one the eldest cultures in the world. It bears a lot of heritage, rituals,
architecture etc. that was developed throughout the years. It should also be known
that during that time India was under the power of British rule and therefore that had
a massive impact on their society. This the part where the term

of them because of their raiding reputation. It was there means of survival. I will be

different arts, and their religion.
The boats they sailed in are called something really simple Viking Ship . Of course the
vikings would name their ships. Their ships are made of wood planks that have
been bent and curved to make the body of the ship. They were a longer ship with

It would tell stories, or show ownership to the land. They would also put different

The vikings started out with their own religion with worshiping their god Odin

Religion In Mahatma Gandhi
Another trait Gandhi possessed due to his religion was courage. Mahatma Gandhi
had no fear. To Gandhi fearlessness was an imperative part of religion. He even
described religion by saying, Where there is fear there is no religion ( Young India, 2
9 26, 308). Further, Gandhi believed this courage to follow one s beliefs improved all
aspects of life. Gandhi once said, Religionwhich takes no account of practical affairs
and does not help to solve them, is no religion ( Young India, 7 5 25, 164).
Religion to Gandhi required an effect on everyday life. Gandhi had no fear and
allowed religion to affect his daily affairs. This was imperative to the many radical
movements and ideas Gandhi proposed. When he founded the Natal Indian
Congress at twenty five, he was a tabula rasa: he tried out ideas which in an
established political organization would have been directly laughed at (Nanda,
Shri B. R). However, due to his fearlessness, even when faced with defeat, Gandhi
pushed onwards. He stated, Defeat cannot dishearten me. It can only chasten me. I
know that God will guide me ( Young India, 3 7 24, 218). And by pushing onwards,
Gandhi was able to see change in India and change in the world. Furthermore,
because of his faith in God, Gandhi was not scared of other physical dangers. He
stated, God saves me so long as He wants me in this body. The moment His wants
are satisfied, no precautions on my part will save me ( Bapu s Letters to Mira, 91).
Gandhi wasn t afraid,

Dog Care For The Health Of Animals And Work For

When an animal is sick or injured; then, it might be wise to call a vet for help. A
vet is a doctor that works for animals, pets, and wildlife. A vet is a good job in fact,
but to get the degree and finish veterinary school is the hard part but the salary and
job outlook looks very good. Some duties that veterinarians have to do are examine
and diagnose animals health problems, treat wounds, perform surgery, and test and
vaccinate for diseases ( Veterinarians para. 11). The main service of a veterinarian
is diagnosing and treating conditions of animals and pets (M, Taylor para. 2). Vets

37). Vets need to also know what is wrong with the animal, so vets need to have
problem solving skills ( Veterinarians para. 42). All vets have to have good manual
dexterity, coordinated hand and finger movements, with the animals or pets (
Veterinarian para. 19). Another important skill is to get along with the pets
owners (M, Taylor para. 2). U.S Bureau of Labor of Statistics reported, Most
Veterinarians work in private clinics and hospitals. Others travel to farms and
ranches, work in labs or classrooms, or even work for the government (
Veterinarians para. 20). About one half of all vets would work with small animals
like dogs and cats ( Veterinarian para. 2). Almost one fourth of all vets work with a
mixed of animals like pigs, goats, sheep, and companion animals ( Veterinarian
para. 2). Now working with large animals, only a small number of vets work with
large animals ( Veterinarian para. 3). The range of animals that a vet works with
ranges from guinea pigs to giraffes, it all depends on the vet s employer (M, Taylor
para. 2). There is many types of veterinarians like a Equine veterinarian which is a
vet who works with horses ( Veterinarians para. 15). A vet that works with farm
animals like cattle, sheep, and pigs that used to be for food is a food animal
veterinarian ( Veterinarians para. 16). Vets that works with large animals would

Informative Essay On Ice Hockey
There are many fun and exciting games in the winter Olympic. There is
snowboarding, figure skating, bobsledding, and many more sports. But one of the
most exciting and intense ones is ice hockey. Ice hockey is played by many
countries and is a very popular international sport. Every year there is a men s and
women s tournament. 12 teams compete in the men s tournament and 6 in the
women s. People from all over the globe gather to watch these teams compete. So
what is ice hockey? Basically, Ice hockey is a contact sport played between two
teams on an ice court. The goal of the game is to hit a round puck into a guarded
goal. Each team has six players and one goalie on the court at one time. Each
player has protective gear like helmets and pads. They also have a hockey stick that
they use to hit the puck into the goal. The goalie s gear is a little different than the
players. The goalie has very thick pads that cover his entire body, a large helmet, and
a hockey stick.

The two player both try to gain control of the puck by hitting it to a teammate. In
ice hockey there are also many penalties for not following the rules such. One of the
main penalties is having to play shorthanded. This happens when a player is placed

reason there is no clear cut treatment is that no one really knows what causes this

There are many faults in the world. Earthquakes happen on these faults. An
earthquake is an unexpected movement of shaking the ground. Also, they can cause
destruction to buildings and the land.. The Wellington Fault is an active,
groundbreaking fault. There are 50 active faults in Wellington. It located in the south

have houses and buildings close to or on a fault. They built the buildings and houses

The two plates are the Pacific Plate and the Australian Tectonic Plate. The
Australian Plate goes north while the Pacific Plate heads west. They are moving at
a rate at about 3.5 cm per year. In the Wellington area, the faults move sideways but
sometimes they go up and down. The pressure on the crust has caused it to break up
into many large pieces. The plates have been moving for about 25 million years now.
The Wellington Fault had parted was around 300 500 years ago with a 7.6 earthquake.
Wellington mostly has small and medium size earthquakes. The larger earthquakes
occur every once 500 years. The very, large earthquakes are about every 1000 years.
The large earthquakes on the fault can cause deaths and injuries. Geoscientists believe
that the Wellington Fault could have an earthquake about every 500 1000 years. The
Fault forms a extraordinary landscape features that go right through the central city.
The Wellington Fault can produce earthquakes with the magnitude of eight. There are
five faults that could cause the most damage are the Wellington Fault, Ohariu Fault
(north and south), Carterton Fault, Wairarapa Fault and the Masterton Fault. Some
of these faults have shore which could increase the risk of tsunamis. The tsunamis
can cause even more damage after an earthquake. Houses and buildings in the area
are wooden and are stronger than most. The Wellington Fault divides the area in
two which creates the Upper Basin and the Lower Basin. The Upper Basin is
covered with soil gravel and sand. While the Lower Basin creates the Wellington
Habor because it is under water. The Upper and Lower Basin are some of the most
affected by the fault moving. The Wellington Fault is split up into three sections: The
Wellington Hutt Valley, the Pahiatua, and the Taraua. The Wellington Hutt Valley is
75 km long, curved fault. It s most recent earthquake was about 150 450 years ago.

The Classical Expected Utility Theory And The Dual
Theory...
INTRODUCTION:
Identifying, defining risks (market risks as well as non market risks), presenting and
justifying a unified framework for the analysis, construction and implementation of
risk measures are important components of insurance pricing.
According to the Oxford s advanced learners dictionary, risk can be defined as the
possibility that something uncertain (not predictable) and unpleasant will happen.
Both financial and insurance organisations are therefore faced with this concept of
risk in their everyday activities. Financial risk can be said to be the possibility that
the return achieved on an investment will be different from that expected, and also
takes into account the size of the difference. Whereas insurers will define risk as a
chance of harm, damage or loss against something which is insured.
Several literatures reveal a good number of different approaches and theories to the
price of risk. The two main competing economic theories we shall consider are the
classical expected utility theory, and the dual theory of risk which was developed by
Yaari(1987).
They defined the price of an insurance risk excluding other expenses as the risk
adjusted premium.
The rest of this paper is structured as follows: section 2 presents the class of
distortion operators used in insurance pricing, their properties and an application of
pricing by distortion. Section 3 incorporates a new pricing principle by Wang (2002)
and its relevance to natural hedging.

Holmes Vs Moriarty
Sherlock Holmes has been a prevalent character in popular culture since his
creation. Recently he has been revived in such adaptations as the Sherlock Holmes
movie series, Elementary on CBS, and BBC s Sherlock. The iconic detective,
followed closely behind by his companion John Watson, solves crimes just in the
nick of time leaving us breathless from suspense and awed by his deductions. With
Holmes portraying the proverbial white knight there must be an opposing force
for him to triumph against. The notorious and nefarious James Moriarty is this
opposing force. He is described as a spider in the center of a web, controlling
everything but staying hidden in the shadows. In the BBC s adaptation of these
classic tales they portray Holmes and Moriarty as opposites when in all actuality
they are more like two sides to the same coin. Holmes likes to solve crime. Likes to
fix things for people. Moriarty does the same just in a more criminal sense and they
both do it for the same reason. Boredom. Both the detective and the criminal
mastermind complain about being bored and the boring people that surround them.
They both search for someone as clever as they are to keep their minds occupied.
And in The Great Game Sherlock Holmesmeets James Moriarty. The way BBC

another South Asian country, and disappear as a sovereign nation. (Cambodia
Tribunal) While the French seem to be a blessing to Cambodia, the few negative
effects created the poor, naive Cambodia that Pol Pot came to power in. In the early
20th century, education was severely neglected. Over time, it was slightly increased,
but was never up to par. According to Cambodia, a Country Study, there was only one
institution of higher learning in Cambodia in 1950. The country was not educated.
The Khmer Rouge/Democratic Party of Campuchea s Socio Communist ideas took
advantage of the unknowledgeable Cambodians, and ended up herding them like
sheep, eventually leading them to their death. French colonists did not allow
Cambodians to participate in the government, so they did not know what to do when
independence finally arrived at their front door in 1945.
Under the rule of Prince Sihanouk, the government that had declared independance
from France, Cambodia had remained neutral during the Vietnam War. They allowed
the Viet Cong to use a Cambodian port to ship munitions, and the U.S. was allowed to
bomb suspected Communist holdouts in Cambodia, but there was little conflict in
Cambodia. America aided Lon Nol to

Education and Social Mobility Essay
When I was young my family are poor. But when I growth up my family is locate
in between middle class and upper class. And right now I do live in Scotland to
study my undergraduate degree. According to the question from my experience
education can help you survive. Because education is considerate to be a social
status in today society. With good education you can get good career and earn a lot
of money.
Social mobility is Upward or downward movement within a stratification system.
Liberal theory claims that capitalist societies are open class and therefore one can
expect a high degree of social mobility. According to liberal theory this movement
within a stratification system should result from a person s achievements and should
not be ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Moreover In many countries the connection between family wealth, family
background and education opportunities is still very powerful. Because people
from high class in society tend to receive advantage to support them self in term of
long period educational career and qualification better than low class societies, Due
to the power of wealth. (Shavit and Blossfeld, 1993). For some reason when the
education people enter the labour market. Because education qualification that a
person acquiring seem to be advantage for that person if the qualification of
education is high. In addition education qualifications seem to be relating to the
social background of each person and their later social class background. Therefore
the education qualification might be one the reason that support social inequalities
and decrease social mobility. Education admission, Education institution are part of a
very important process in selection, certification and maintain or reducing social
inequalities. For example in the last centuries Scotland was the case study of a
significant change in education system from selective to comprehensive system
(Ianelli Paterson, 2005). This has received a very optimistic positive result. Moreover
the comprehensive system in Scotland education was decreasing social inequalities in
education.
Education qualification has been link to the parental social
Mackie s Argument Against God From Evil
Argument Against God From Evil
The strongest argument against God is Mackie s argument from evil.
The argument against God from evil focuses on disproving God by exposing the
contradictions that arise from the image of God held by most theologians and the
existence of evil. This argument takes a reductio ad absurdum approach meaning it
uses a false or contradictory conclusion to show that a sound argument cannot be
derived from the given premises. The beliefs held by most monotheistic religions,
which are the foundation of our premises, would be that: God exist, God is wholly
good, and God is omnipotent. The problem stems from the fact that in the presence
of evil, which exist irrefutably, being omnipotent and wholly good is incompatible.
This contradiction is more easily seen once the terms have been defined. In this
sense, to be wholly good is to always remove as much evil as possible, and to be
omnipotent is to be able to do anything. From this it follows that if God is real, God
has the power to do anything, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That being said, God s gift of free will to humanity is often used as the prime
example as to why evil exist. Free will, theologian s would argue, is among the
greatest goods, but for humans to truly have free will they must also have the
choice to do evil. This argument is flawed however. The theologian would argue
that free will and not being able to do evil is incompatible and therefore not
possible, but God himself is a testament to the opposite. God being wholly good,
would not freely choose to do evil, and assuming no theologian would argue that
God has no free will, it must follow that it is possible to have free will and not do
any evil. If that premise is true, and we recall that God being omnipotent can do
anything that is possible, it must follow that God could have and would have made
humans without the ability to cause evil if he
Knee Pain Research Paper
Knee pain is intolerable and perhaps the only way to get rid of this pain
permanently is by opting for a knee surgery, meniscus knee surgery or arthroscopic
knee surgery. About six hundred thousand people all over the world undergo knee
surgery every year and about ninety percent of these people feel that their life has
become better after the surgerybecause they can move normally without feeling any
painin their knees. However, this alternative is found to have helped a lot of people
all over the world and they are now living a life free from kneepain. There are some
people who wonder whether it is actually effective in giving them a life free from
knee pain because they are not very sure whether it works.
While some people can treat their knee pain with medications and exercises, there
are also people who have tried these techniques of treatment and they did not work
out for them. So the only alternative that is left to them is to have a knee surgery.
Living with a painful knee is very difficult and if your condition is severe then you

If he does recommend the surgery then you will have to start preparing for the
procedure. He may ask you to get a physical examination done by your GP. As it is
very normal to have blood transfusions at the time of the knee surgery, your surgeon
may recommend you to donate one or two units of your own blood before the
surgery. You will have to discuss all the preparations that are required for the knee
surgery with your surgeon.
It is not easy to live with knee pain forever because there will come a day when you
will feel extremely useless because you will not be able to carry out your regular
activities by yourself. This is the reason why many doctors will advise you to opt
for a knee surgery when they feel that it will be the best solution for your
Carl Sandburg s Use of Allusion in Grass Essays
Carl Sandburg s Use of Allusion in Grass
Carl Sandburg s short poem Grass represents a metaphor for the disguise of history.
The persona tells how histories that have taken place are sooner or later
disregarded. The persona tells that the histories should not be disregarded, but be
left the way it is as cited in the poem I am the grass .Let me work. People should
notice the events that took place and learn from their mistakes and be better people.
The places that are mentioned in the poem are allusions. The allusions are indirect
references that Carl Sandburg utilizes to exhibit the seriousness of the past events.
Every place that is mentioned in the poem is a well known bloody fight in wars that
claimed many lives. The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At Austerlitz, even though Napoleon tasted his first victory he lost many men in
the process. Eventually his defeat at Waterloo obviously meant that he lost more
men than in his victory. This is where one of Carl s arguments of the poem comes
into play. It is meaningless if one wins or looses the reason being that the grass will
get rid of all the signs of battles such as the dead people and would have no effect
whatsoever on people in the future.
The opening two lines of the following stanza is similar to the first line of the first
stanza being that the grass commands for more history left behind for it to wipe out
at Gettysburg, Ypres, and Verdun. All the grass wants to do is to accomplish its
objective of wiping out physical signs of history. However, these events are recent
and so there may still be some visibility of the battles. Some societies think that
what happened hundreds of years ago happened yesterday. Carl then uses the
image of the passengers who pass the places mentioned in the poem now covered
with the grass. They ask the conductor What is this place? Where are we now? The
passengers do not have a clue as to how much blood had been dropped there in the
stated places. They then carry on with their voyage just as the grass keeps on growing.
While the grass covers all signs of history, it may also be pointed out that the
allusions where battles of war took place will be embraced by societies that see it as
Marketing And Managing An App
Abstract
The world of phone applications is expanding at a rapid rate every day. Apps are
now becoming more and more important in everyday life and they are also
becoming more and more valuable. With new horizons being reached and new
innovations being released it s important for computing students to try and tap into
the world of apps and mobile technology. Each D.I.M.E (Digital, Innovation,
Management and Enterprise) group was tasked with coming up with an app idea as a
group project.
This project involved creating, marketing and managing an app idea which could be
developed for the consumer. The goal was to show our lecturers that the idea
concocted by each group could be made into a popular and useful app for a target
market. This was ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Introduction
In this group report group V will talk about the product, Siamsa, and the work that
went into conceptualising it, designing the poster and developing and website
including social media to support and market the app in a way that will give it the
best possible chance of taking off. This group report will show what the thinking
was behind coming up with Siamsa as a potentially successful application. What
was the reasoning behind deciding to make our target market eighteen year olds to
thirty year olds, especially people who go to the many colleges around Ireland. It
will also reveal why group V decided to make the app Siamsa free for all. As more
research was carried out on the idea it became clear that there is actually a market
for Siamsa and with some smart marketing and exposure the future possibilities are
endless for the app. For this purpose, the group report will focus on the steps that
will be taken to make sure that Siamsa will be innovative and bring something new to
the market, while at the same time showing that Siamsa is entirely feasible and could
be built to a high standard.
Background
After our group was formed our lecturer gave us different talks on topics like e
commerce and start ups where it gave us an idea on how to start our group project on
the right foot and give us the strongest chance
Psychopathy In The Columbine Shootings
I think one theme of Columbine is that some people do bad things for no apparent
reason.
Everyone sought someone or something to blame for Eric and Dylan s actions, but
ultimately they were just two kids born with severe mental issues. Nothing happened
to
them to make them the way they were. Signs of psychopathy were evident from a
young
age, especially in Eric. They were destined to act out violently in some way or
another.
b.) Dylan Klebold was tall and gangly with long hair. He loved technology and
baseball. He
was very smart. He had a hard time socializing with girls which caused him much
angst.
It was revealed through his journals that he was depressed throughout high school,
and he
often expressed the desire to die.
c.) ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The
most memorable passage was the one that described the shooting. There was so much
information that I never knew about the Columbine shooting.
d.) The author repeatedly refers to Eric and Dylan as very intelligent and recognizes
that they
would have killed hundreds of people had their plan succeeded. If the book does
encourage copycats, it will be because Cullen details their plan and highlights their
mistakes. For example, Cullen writes that the faulty wiring of the bombs prevented
hundreds of deaths. Someone planning a school massacre could learn from the
mistakes
of Eric and Dylan. Since their plan is clearly outlined, someone of lesser intelligence
than
Dylan and Eric could easily copy their ideas.
e.) Eric and Dylan seemed to be completely normal teenagers. No one ever suspected
them
to become mass murderers. Eric was charming and always seemed genuinely
remorseful
when he made a mistake. Dylan loved baseball, and he was planning to go to college.
The
fact that they appeared so normal makes them even more frightening. It challenges
society s perception of killers. Most people imagine school shooters as lonely
Major Economics Personal Statement
After I finish college, I want to pursue my study by transferring to university.
Transferring to university will be a valuable step for me in achieving my dreams. At
the same time, this would be a good opportunity for me to explore more about
United States of America, which I believed the land of opportunity. In university, I
will be focus for my intended major Economics. Studying economics require a lot of
analytical skills and quantitative reasoning in solving economic issues that occur
around us such as poverty, economic growth, economic recession and inequality. I
learned that economics is a way to understand how people, businesses, government
and also federal reserve banking in making decision to the economic environment.

A Public Administrator s Biggest Concern
Public administration is often times the enforcement of government policy and also
academic discipline that prepares people for working in the public service. It is a field
with a diverse scope. The goal is to have advance management and policies so that the
government can function. A public administrator s biggest concern is having a sense
of organization with government policies and programs. Often times many unelected
officers can be considered heads of city, county, regional, state, and federal
departments. Some federal departments can include municipal budget directors,
human resources administrators, city managers, census managers, state mental health
directors, and cabinet secretaries. Public administrators can work in public at all
levels of government.
The history of public administration has ancient origins. The Egyptians and Greeks
organized their government by public office. These office holders would be
accountable for managing justice, law and order, and providing things for the people.
The Romans also had a system like this, but it was much more complex. This system
was under their empire. They also had an administrative structure created by the
Roman Catholic Church.
This structure was comprised of the entire empire, with a hierarchy of officers.
Everyone also had to report back to the emperor. This soon disappeared after the fall
of the Roman Empire in Western Europe in the 5th century. Surprisingly, most of its
practices continued in the Byzantine
The Odessa Steps Sequence
Sergei Eisenstein was a Soviet film director, who directed Battleship Potemkin. A
famous scene in the film is the Odessa Steps sequence. The Odessa Steps sequence
is an example of Eisensteinian attractions, which is a tactic that is used to shock or
jolt the audience, mainly through editing. The scene I am describing is segment C.
Segment C is the scene that consists of the cherub statues, the collapsing iron gate,
and the lion statues. Segment C consists of nine shots. The first shot is a cherub
extending its right arm above its head to reach a club. The cherub is looking straight
ahead. Additionally, the cherub is sitting with its legs wide open. The second shot in
the segment is another cherub looking to the left. The cherub is grasping... Show more

Yes, the narrative is disrupted by the cherubs and the lion statues, but compared to the
other segments the cherubs and the lion statues do not intensify the shots of the iron
gate collapsing compared to the occurrences in segment B and segment A, where
those shots together build upon the intensity of the shots within their own segments.
In segment B the shots continue to intensify the narrative especially seeing the
helpless baby in the carriage on the cusp of descending down the steps, and then the
solider slashing people with his saber, and the woman who was shot in the eye. In
my opinion, these all continue to intensify the narrative because the shots are brief
but it s all shocking and addresses the spectator especially when the woman who is
shot in the eye looks at the camera in horror. Segment B continues to shock one,
whereas segment C disrupts the continuity of the scene. Segment A is also disruptive
like segment C because of the title that says and suddenly, and the lady who is
shaking her head and yelling, and then the lady with the white parasol heading toward
the camera, although this is disruptive it also intensifies the narrative because the
narrative completely switches from the people waving to the people beginning to run

Adolescent, Antisocial Behavior And Behavior
On the other hand, Moffitt (1993) also identifies adolescent limited as part of the
adolescent offenders. Adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is defined by antisocial
behaviour that starts occurring during adolescence and discontinues at the beginning
of adulthood. These individuals have no history of antisocial behaviour in their
childhoodand are unlikely to continue this behaviour in the future. They are also not
consistent with their antisocial behaviour in different situations. While life course
persistent individuals act antisocially in all situations, changing their type of
antisocial behaviour to fit the circumstances, adolescent limited individuals might
only express antisocial behaviours in certain situations, but not in others.
Causes of Adolescent Limited Antisocial Behaviour
The cause of adolescent limited antisocial behaviour is theorised for one to be social
mimicry. Adolescents who do not express life course persistent antisocial behaviour,
might still know or observe individual who do. Adolescents might observe an
advantage in this behaviour and start to mimic it. This advantage might be a mature
status that is accompanied by power and privilege. It can be argued that
industrialisation and the resulting consequence of children achieving the social adult
statutes later and later in life, leads to a maturity gap, where the biological age and
social age do not match up. This may lead to a increased desire for maturity statues
within adolescents.
The Desert Places by Robert Frost
In this competitive world, everyone is attempting to earn more money than others
and due to this race they are losing their original purpose which is to have healthy
relationships with others and enjoy their life. Individuals these days very much
indulge in themselves and are not spending adequate time with others. Research
performed by scientists showed that isolation is one of the contributing causes of
depressionand other mental health disorders. People have begun to appreciate money
and fame more than their own happinesswhich is causing their life to be empty and
meaningless. In the poem The Desert Places by Robert Frost the narrator encounters
loneliness and isolation and talks about how it s affecting his mental well being...

I am too absent spirited to count; The loneliness includes me unawares. Speaker
feels that anything or anybody around him belong to others, yet not him, impelling
him to feel all the more lonely and depressed. The forested areas around him are the
ones that claim the field and no other creatures can ask to share it because it does
not belong to them. The speaker feels the same way as he sees people around him
sharing love and care with each other, but he can t share that love in the light of the
fact that it does not belong to him, which makes the speaker all the more lonely and
that s the reason why it s demolishing his happiness.
There are several different examples of my lifetime experiences that demonstrates
the different ways how I ruined my happiness. One of the major reasons that ruin
my happiness is the point at which I begin fighting with my loved ones because of a
few false impressions and eventually I become alone and isolated because I have
nobody to talk with about my feelings. I have encountered an awful breakup with my
girlfriend recently and because of that I am having some difficulty trusting
individuals, even the individuals who are close to me. I was extremely happy in the
relationship, but when I found out that my girlfriend cheated on me, I couldn t handle
it. It affected me mentally and emotionally as I never thought that something to that
effect can befall me. I now

An Essay On Science

  • 1. An Essay On Science Writing an essay on the topic of science can be both a challenging and rewarding endeavor. On one hand, the vastness and complexity of the subject offer a multitude of avenues for exploration. However, this very breadth can be daunting, making it difficult to decide where to focus and what specific aspects of science to delve into. The challenge begins with the need for a comprehensive understanding of the diverse branches of science, ranging from physics and chemistry to biology and environmental science. Each of these fields comes with its own set of principles, theories, and discoveries, making it imperative for the essay writer to grasp the intricacies of various scientific disciplines. Furthermore, articulating scientific concepts in a clear and concise manner poses another layer of difficulty. Balancing the need for accuracy with the requirement for accessibility to a broad audience demands a thoughtful approach to language and explanation. Juggling scientific terminology without alienating readers who may not have a background in science requires skillful communication. The research process itself can be time-consuming and intricate. Accessing reputable sources, synthesizing information, and critically evaluating scientific studies are crucial steps in crafting a well-informed essay. Keeping abreast of the latest developments in the scientific world is also essential, as science is a dynamic field with constant advancements and discoveries. Additionally, the essay should not merely be a compilation of facts; it should present a cohesive and compelling argument or narrative. This necessitates analytical thinking and the ability to connect disparate pieces of information into a coherent whole. In conclusion, writing an essay on the topic of science is a challenging task that demands a deep understanding of various scientific disciplines, effective communication skills, extensive research, and the ability to weave together complex concepts into a cohesive narrative. While the difficulty may be daunting, the potential for learning and the satisfaction of sharing knowledge make it a worthwhile endeavor. • 2. The Topic Of Identity Theft As we have progressed throughout the chapters in this course we have learned more and more about consumer economics. The knowledge it takes to keep consumers safe and up to date is constantly changing to allow consumers to protect themselves from potential problems that they are aware of as well as things that are concealed. During the last few chapters of this course one topic that really stuck out was identity theft. It is very fascinating that people are capable of stealing so much information people they don t even know. This information that hackers and other intelligent people collect can change the average consumer s life as well as company s reliability. During this essay, the topic of identity theft will be covered as a consumer is affected as well as how cybercrimes using the same methods can affect very large companies. This in turn will affect consumers. While researching the fact that as technology aggressively progresses it causes many people plenty of distress when it comes to internet and newer technology. Many companies will ask for information based on email addresses, or information for credit cards they sign you up for. Overall this can be extremely overwhelming for a consumer because no consumer knows for sure if that employee working for a company is completely trustworthy. This is a problem for not only in person transaction, but also many transactions that happen via the internet. The reason this could be a problem in the internet and would make

  • 4. What Is The Lethal Weapon Rhetorical Techniques Lethal Weapon is a film made by Richard Donner in 1987. It tells a story of two policemen who become partners. Roger Murtaugh is a veteran, he has family and he is getting older. Martin Riggs is suicidal officer who lives in a trailer with his dog. To solve the case they need to learn how to work with one another. Lethal Weapon is an action movie. As in almost every type of the movie viewers can follow narration development but they become distracted by some action scenes (like blowing something up, chasing the car etc.) and narration is suspended for a while. We can notice the same practice for example in musicals. Action is interrupted there by singing and dancing. But what is also really characteristic for Lethal Weapon and what we have not seen in previous movies that we watched during course are comic elements especially in terms of language but ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Martin and Mr. Joshua are getting into the fist fight. This scene is absurd though it shows development of heroes and a change that occurred in them. Murtaugh and Riggs could kill or catch villain but instead of that Roger is letting Martin to show his power and get into the fist fight. This scene lasts for a five minutes. After analysis we can notice many homoerotic elements. At the beginning they are using only their fists but they become shirtless really quickly and at one point they use phallic weapons to fight. Water is blowing up in the air and covering everyone and everything. That brings sexual connotations as well. It is very important to take into consideration their moves and their acts. After connecting all the elements viewers can notice that this scene is presented in such a way to be similar to sexual foreplay and re figuration of a sexual act between men. But this scene threatens patriarchal and heterosexual society. That is why threat of homosexual romance needs to be removed by killing the villain even though he was defeated by
  • 5. Thomas Hobbes Idea Of A Strong Authoritarian Government I think that Hobbes s idea of a strong authoritarian government would probably justify the US policy about surveillance. Since a commonwealth is instituted mainly to protect the people, who have singed this social contract in order to escape from the short and poor life of the state of nature, the sovereign should do whatever it is necessary to guarantee protection to its own citizens. In fact, as Hobbes says: if a governmentis no longer able to keep people safe, then the social contract is no valid anymore. So, assuming that the US policy main goal is to protect Americans from external threatens (i.e. terroristic attacks), it is in line with Hobbes s argument. Furthermore, Hobbes does not say that people do not have their own liberty under

With sport and expression being arguably an essential part of this research (Jaksa, 2011; Morgan , 1997), it should have been discussed further. Literature Review According to Morgan (1997) the national identity can be defined by simply as how a country think about them in reality. • 7. Historic Place of the Slaughters In the 1560s the ownership of the Florida Peninsula was hotly contested. The French had preemptively built a small fort, Fort Caroline, near what would become Jacksonville, Florida. In 1565 the Spanish marched from St. Augustine and took this small fort, slaughtering some 200 people. Then, they chased down the remaining French Huguenots near a small inlet. Believing that his men would be well treated, the leader surrendered to the Spanish. The Spanish slaughtered them to the last man in an act that horrified the people of the age. Thus this beautiful location became known as Matanzas or Place of the Slaughters. Fort Matanzas was finished by the Spanish in 1742. It was meant to guard Matanzas Inlet, the southern end of Matanzas River. The Spanish were worried the river would serve as a back door to the city of St. Augustine. They built it of coquina shellstone, naturally abundant in the area. The fort is a smaller square style with walls 50 foot long on each side and a 30 foot tall high tower. On the right hand wall of the fort a small tower overhangs the wall. This was where the sentries were posted. The fort was armed with five cannon aimed at the inlet and manned by one officer, four infantrymen and two gunners. The fort was only involved in one skirmish in which it successfully drove off a British fleet. By 1821, the fort was unlivable. Restorations began in 1916. By 1924 the fort was stabilized and it was given National Monument status. The National Park Service

  • 9. The Five People You Meet In Heaven Analysis Jackie Robinson once said, A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives. With 7 billion other people on the planet it is easy to think one is worthless. Most individuals feel as if they are insignificant in the world. They fail to realize the importance of their influence on others. For example, in The Five People You Meet In Heaven, author Mitch Albom, illustrates a bitter elderly man, Eddie. He feels as if he is pointless and regrets his repetitious job as maintenance worker. However, this is all changed in Eddie s journey through heaven. In the novel The Five People You Meet in Heaven, by Albom, Eddie comes to realize how his time in the military transformed others lives. While in heaven, Eddie first learns how his time in the military impacted the lives of his unit and his captain. He had immensely affected whether they had lived or died during their time as prisoners of war. Due to his quick thinking, Eddie was able to construct a diversion that gave him and his men an escape route. Eddie used his juggling skills to distract the guards resulting in their flee. Without Eddie s assistance the men would most likely not have escaped. Unfortunately, their jailbreak also led up to the captain s death. When the men were rushing out of the burning camp, Eddie believed he saw a person in the fire. He made several attempts to save whoever was still in the flames. This gave the captain no choice but to shoot his leg and then rush him to a nearby medical

To begin with, in 1869, The Government of Canada, Great Britain, and the Hudson s Bay Company sign an agreement whereby Rupert s land is sold to the Dominion of Canada. For want of local support, the Fenian attack died before it had begun. Archibald was prepared to leave him in peace. • 11. Medieval Castle Weapons The castle was an important aspect of warfare from the 10th to 13th centuries. Castles, particularly in England, played an essential role in warfare because of the power associated with them. Changes in castle defense are represented by two important types of castles: the motte and bailey castle and, later, the concentric castles. As a whole, they became more secure and fluid. Stronger materials were necessary to ensure more powerful weapons could not penetrate the defenses easily. In addition, more features were integrated into walls and central structures to allow defenders to have angles to attack without weakening the defenses. This created complexity in battle because of the increased number of angles available for shooting. The changes that ultimately led to the concentric castlewere prompted by the rapidly advancing technology used in weapons. The original defenses were no longer capable of defending against them and therefore had to be fortified further. The specific structural and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One feature is an artificial or natural mound of earthen materials, called a motte. A motte could be up to 30 feet tall and was sometimes surrounded by a moat to keep attackers from scaling it and breaching the main defenses. On top of the motte was a donjon or wooden tower, the primary area of defense. There was an area on top of the tower to allow for the garrison to shoot the attackers from a higher angle. Lastly, a bailey was a courtyard surrounded by walls, ideally circular. Because castles were used for residential and administrative purposes along with warfare, they had important buildings and people to defend. There were often multiple baileys encompassing the various buildings, but the outer bailey was the most important. While rather simple compared to later castles, its structure was sufficient for defending against the weapons at the

Missing a limb is one problem that has occurred for millennium. There is documented evidence that humans have tried to replace a missing appendage since approximately 950 B.C. Throughout time prostheticshave mainly been produced with crude leftover supplies like wood, metal, and leather. A major impetus to improving artificial limbs started when the United States encouraged companies to improve prosthetics instead of munitions (Norton, 2007). The combination of lighter materials and robotics assist has created huge advancements in functionality and has dramatically improved quality of life and potential for independent living. Even with the advancement of these limbs, the basic mechanical principals are still the same. Modern times allow for many different types of limbs to be created. Limbs can be created to match skin tone, freckles and fingerprints. There are three many ways a limb can be made to move. The first is attaching the limb to a moving body part to act as a gear shifter. Another variation is a motor attached and the person can switch modes by a mechanical toggle shift. The most advanced movement is the myoelectric capability. This is when electrodes are placed on the muscles of the residual limb. When contracted the arm will move according to which electrode fired. A microprocessor can also be attached to learn exactly how the person walks (Clements, 2008). Modern prosthetics offer valuable life skills, yet are very

Also, by this time the audience didn t just come and see actors/actress play theatrical roles, they wanted to hear the sweet sound of the leading voices. Between 1590 to 1900, the Castrati (male sopranos) played the leading roles as the heroines, hero and villains, but it will take decades for women to arise from the religious and political views which caused restriction on all opera houses to ban all women to participate on stage. Like women, soon the rise for the castrate singers will decline and restrictions to participate on stage will come into effect. There are four similarities between both sexes that causes a rise and fall effect in the operatic form. First similarity is the history of the opera. According to John Brister, before the existence of opera, each nationality has used boys, falsettos, or eunuchs as singers to entertain and worship. Even though their voices admired by a historical point of view, the falsetto and the eunuch didn t have appropriate signature or sound to continue. Eventually, the Spanish and Roman church used castrati s in 1577 1578. They carried a lighter tone similar to a woman s voice. Nonetheless,

The poem Do not go gentle into that good night is about never giving up on living; the poem Invictus is about giving life his best shot. In Do not go gentle into that good night the main idea is living the best life that he could; in I know why the caged bird sings the main idea is the longing to live a better life. In the poem I know why the caged bird sings the author uses birds as the characters; both Do not go gentle into that good night and Invictus depict the characters as humans. All of these poems differ in certain ways, but they share similar underlying elements such as never give up and try to do the most in life with what is already there. These poems are separated by period, structure, and condition, but they all share prominent similarities as well as communicate the common idea of the fight that is life. My favorite

The reason there is no clear cut treatment is that no one really knows what causes this disease. Most treatments are used to help control the disease and mitigate the symptoms it causes. The symptoms of endometriosis affect the women who suffer them in different ways. Most women notice an increase in symptoms as their menstrual period approaches and begins. In rarer cases the symptoms persist throughout the month. The discomfort and pain is normally localized in the pelvic, abdominal or lower back regions. The severity of the pain caused varies from woman to woman. Endometriosis can also cause heavy menstruation and in severe cases infertility. The first step to endometriosis treatment is getting properly diagnosed. Women who experience endometriosis symptoms should see their gynecologist. In some cases an ultrasound or MRI can detect the small endometrial growths but a definitive diagnosis can only be made through

The Wellington Fault had parted was around 300 500 years ago with a 7.6 earthquake. Wellington mostly has small and medium size earthquakes. The larger earthquakes occur every once 500 years. The very, large earthquakes are about every 1000 years. The large earthquakes on the fault can cause deaths and injuries. Geoscientists believe that the Wellington Fault could have an earthquake about every 500 1000 years. The Fault forms a extraordinary landscape features that go right through the central city. The Wellington Fault can produce earthquakes with the magnitude of eight. Some of these faults have shore which could increase the risk of tsunamis. The tsunamis can cause even more damage after an earthquake. Houses and buildings in the area are wooden and are stronger than most. The Wellington Fault divides the area in two which creates the Upper Basin and the Lower Basin. The Upper Basin is covered with soil gravel and sand. While the Lower Basin creates the Wellington Habor because it is under water. The Upper and Lower Basin are some of the most affected by the fault moving. The Wellington Fault is split up into three sections: The Wellington Hutt Valley, the Pahiatua, and the Taraua. The Wellington Hutt Valley is 75 km long, curved fault. It s most recent earthquake was about 150 450 years ago. The Wellington Hutt
  • 39. The Classical Expected Utility Theory And The Dual Theory... INTRODUCTION: Identifying, defining risks (market risks as well as non market risks), presenting and justifying a unified framework for the analysis, construction and implementation of risk measures are important components of insurance pricing. According to the Oxford s advanced learners dictionary, risk can be defined as the possibility that something uncertain (not predictable) and unpleasant will happen. Both financial and insurance organisations are therefore faced with this concept of risk in their everyday activities. Financial risk can be said to be the possibility that the return achieved on an investment will be different from that expected, and also takes into account the size of the difference. Whereas insurers will define risk as a chance of harm, damage or loss against something which is insured. Several literatures reveal a good number of different approaches and theories to the price of risk. The two main competing economic theories we shall consider are the classical expected utility theory, and the dual theory of risk which was developed by Yaari(1987). They defined the price of an insurance risk excluding other expenses as the risk adjusted premium. The rest of this paper is structured as follows: section 2 presents the class of distortion operators used in insurance pricing, their properties and an application of pricing by distortion. Section 3 incorporates a new pricing principle by Wang (2002) and its relevance to natural hedging. Section 4

  • 41. Holmes Vs Moriarty Sherlock Holmes has been a prevalent character in popular culture since his creation. Recently he has been revived in such adaptations as the Sherlock Holmes movie series, Elementary on CBS, and BBC s Sherlock. The iconic detective, followed closely behind by his companion John Watson, solves crimes just in the nick of time leaving us breathless from suspense and awed by his deductions. With Holmes portraying the proverbial white knight there must be an opposing force for him to triumph against. The notorious and nefarious James Moriarty is this opposing force. He is described as a spider in the center of a web, controlling everything but staying hidden in the shadows. In the BBC s adaptation of these classic tales they portray Holmes and Moriarty as opposites when in all actuality they are more like two sides to the same coin. Holmes likes to solve crime. Likes to fix things for people. Moriarty does the same just in a more criminal sense and they both do it for the same reason. Boredom. Both the detective and the criminal mastermind complain about being bored and the boring people that surround them. They both search for someone as clever as they are to keep their minds occupied. • 46. Mackie s Argument Against God From Evil Argument Against God From Evil The strongest argument against God is Mackie s argument from evil. The argument against God from evil focuses on disproving God by exposing the contradictions that arise from the image of God held by most theologians and the existence of evil. This argument takes a reductio ad absurdum approach meaning it uses a false or contradictory conclusion to show that a sound argument cannot be derived from the given premises. The beliefs held by most monotheistic religions, which are the foundation of our premises, would be that: God exist, God is wholly good, and God is omnipotent. The problem stems from the fact that in the presence of evil, which exist irrefutably, being omnipotent and wholly good is incompatible. This contradiction is more easily seen once the terms have been defined. In this sense, to be wholly good is to always remove as much evil as possible, and to be omnipotent is to be able to do anything. From this it follows that if God is real, God has the power to do anything, and ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That being said, God s gift of free will to humanity is often used as the prime example as to why evil exist. Free will, theologian s would argue, is among the greatest goods, but for humans to truly have free will they must also have the choice to do evil. This argument is flawed however. The theologian would argue that free will and not being able to do evil is incompatible and therefore not possible, but God himself is a testament to the opposite. God being wholly good, would not freely choose to do evil, and assuming no theologian would argue that God has no free will, it must follow that it is possible to have free will and not do any evil. If that premise is true, and we recall that God being omnipotent can do anything that is possible, it must follow that God could have and would have made humans without the ability to cause evil if he

It is meaningless if one wins or looses the reason being that the grass will get rid of all the signs of battles such as the dead people and would have no effect whatsoever on people in the future. The opening two lines of the following stanza is similar to the first line of the first stanza being that the grass commands for more history left behind for it to wipe out at Gettysburg, Ypres, and Verdun. All the grass wants to do is to accomplish its objective of wiping out physical signs of history. However, these events are recent and so there may still be some visibility of the battles. Some societies think that what happened hundreds of years ago happened yesterday. Carl then uses the image of the passengers who pass the places mentioned in the poem now covered with the grass. They ask the conductor What is this place? Where are we now? The passengers do not have a clue as to how much blood had been dropped there in the stated places. They then carry on with their voyage just as the grass keeps on growing. Adolescents who do not express life course persistent antisocial behaviour, might still know or observe individual who do. Adolescents might observe an advantage in this behaviour and start to mimic it. This advantage might be a mature status that is accompanied by power and privilege.
