2. ILP Pages These are the pages from my ProPortal account this shows that
when I started I wanted to get a distinction at the end. At the end
of the first year I did get a distinction as I wanted too.
3. UCAS Application
I applied to UAL and Greenwich. In the end I decided on
Greenwich because I just had a better feel about the
campus, the people and the place itself. Whilst I know that
UAL is a fantastic university, I just wasn't feeling at home as
much as I was at Greenwich and since they are both the
same course I decided to pick the one I felt most at home
at and the one which I felt I would fit in best.
4. Personal Statement
I want to study filmmaking at university because I want to learn how to create films that effect people positively. In some way or
another a film can affect the audience who is watching it, whether making you into a superhero or making you forget about your
troubles, film has the power to transform your mind, I want to be a part of that. I want to be able to learn the technical and
creative skills to make something amazing that can affect the audience and I think that university is the place to learn these
qualities.
I originally started A-Levels as thatās what we were told to do and taking other routes was never really advised. However as the
year had gone by and I had to pick another subject, I realised that I wasnāt doing anything that I was passionate about or that
would lead to a career in film. Therefore I decided to move to college and do Creative Media, which was the best decision I ever
made as A-Levels just didnāt fulfil me creatively. I still learnt a lot that year, not only the subject matter, but a better writing style
and work ethic which are skills transferable to any subject. Creative Media was where I really felt I took off and fit in. On the
creative media production course I had the freedom to make projects that I had created and designed from scratch while learning
so much that I never had the chance to at sixth form. Whilst I have now made my own short film I feel that I am ready to start
making something more professional in a team of people who feel the same way. When making my FMP in the first year I learnt
so much about how much work was needed to make something professional. These skills have helped me in the production of my
first short documentary, which is about nuns in the modern world. Organising the schedule and having to create a big project from
scratch is very exciting for me. I have learnt aspects of everything from using Premiere Pro to filming scenes, researching for
production and realising my intentions professionally. The course has definitely prepared me for university and has made me
realise how many aspects there are that go into creating something captivating and unique.
Although I do not want to limit myself to a certain area, I think I am a well rounded in all areas of production. Though my abilities
are definitely higher when planning and organising a production and when directing. Therefore I want to be involved with either
directing or producing films where I can make a project that I have passion for. Iām especially looking forward to working in a team
of likeminded people, in a professional environment, and making something challenging so that I can expand my capabilities and
learn lifelong lessons. Additionally, London is a big part of my future as well as Iāve always wanted to live there for many reasons
but mainly because it is a hub for filmmaking in Britain. I think that being in a place where films are being made all around with
the options of work placements or jobs being available too, that London is the best place for me to learn filmmaking and to start a
long career in the film industry.
Since the age of 15 I have had a part time job and I currently work in a bakery as a confectioner. I love working, not just because of
the job but because I love working with people and hearing and telling stories. I have a strong work ethic, both in my part time
work and my college projects. I think that this shows how reliable and dedicated to succeeding I am as I always try my absolute
best, learn from my mistakes and try never to let anyone down.
To summaries, I want to go to university to develop the skills and contacts I need to be successful in the film industry. I am looking
forward to the opportunity to work on demanding projects with more sophisticated equipment with professional expectations. I
am excited to get the chance to work on a more challenging projects and I am sure that the people I meet on the course will
become my colleagues and friends in the future.
5. UAL Extra Application
UAL Contextual Statement
This is a short documentary about Catholic Sisters in modern England. Whilst filming I got to experience another world that I would never
normally get to see. I met wonderful people, had an amazing experience and came away having learnt many new things. My role in this film
was very wide and varied, I directed and produced it, meaning I researched in great depth and contacted people in order to find a
congregation that was willing to let me document their community. I also edited and evaluated afterwards. Evaluating and reflecting on my
work always helps me to improve on future projects by analysing and being critical in the hope that my next project is better. Having the
opportunity to create something I was so interested in was such a blessing as I love meeting people, collaborating and learning new things
which is why I love documentary. Being able to investigate something slightly different to what you experience normally is something Iām
really interested in and Iām hoping to further that when I do my FMP. Iāll be making another short documentary, this time about the whole
Catholic church and its relationship with young people and how itās changing with the times. I will be interviewing the sisters, a catholic
school teacher and a priest as well as some young people involved with the church. Iām proud of my work as I feel like Iāve made something
legitimate and different which not everybody else has done. One thing that lacks in filmmaking at college is the ability to work in teams and
collaborate with your peers which is something that Iām looking forward to at university. Bringing everybodyās ideas to the table can create a
project that is much more advanced and professional than if you worked alone. Since Iām a very organised and conscientious person I work
well in a production role where I can direct and advise what is happening which is why Iād prefer to work as a producer overseeing everything
or as a director/AD where I can really be involved with filming. I also love communicating with people which I think is a very important part of
collaborations. I obviously love documentary, especially anything made by Louis Theroux since he manages to find the most interesting topics
and ask the most necessary questions, however the main genre I watch is independent romance/dramas or dramas. I love everything made
by Drake Doremus not just because of content but because they contain the most beautiful shots and the colours he uses are stunning. Two
films which I recently watched, Miseducation of Cameron Post and My Friend Dahmer, are examples of the kind of films I love as they tell a
real story which affects the audience and teaches them something they didnāt know before. This is the reason why I love film and television
because you can really make a change in the world.

7. Trips
Aesthetica Short Film Festival:
I went to the Aesthetica Short Film Festival (ASFF) in both 2017 and 2018 and I thoroughly enjoyed it both times going not only to
the day college funded us for but in my own time too. It was so great to see different types of films, documentary, drama, comedy
and what little ideas can become a whole film. It also reminded me how music is so important, as when watching as the audience
you listen and look at everything (although this may be because I am being over analytical since I do media). It also showed me
how diverse film can be and how you really can take any idea and wit hard work and talent can create something that thousands
of people could enjoy.
Film Screening:
We went to see a documentary being screened at York City Screen called An Inconvenient Truth (2006) by Al Gore, the ex Vice
President of the United States of America. This showed me not only incredible facts and knowledge about climate change and the
world, but about the different ways to make documentaries. This was filmed in so many different styles all put together. With
talking head interviews, found footage, archival and new images, cameras following around people with steadi cams and shoulder
mounts, news clips and more, all of this together made a fantastic and impressive documentary that makes a huge impact on you.
It also showed me how important documentaries are and how they are starting to get more and more serious recognition in the
film and TV world.
Open Days:
I went to multiple open days in 2018, the University of East London (UEL) , the University of Greenwich (UOG) and the University
of the Arts London (UAL). UEL was not what I was expecting at all, I knew from the beginning that this was not going to be the
place for me as the talk given by the principle was terrible. She was new and didnāt know what she was talking about, she kept
getting things wrong and referring to her old university. It showed me that this wasnāt a vocation or a home, but a job and it
wasnāt inviting at all. Then we had a talk from the course leader which was terrible too. The lady didnāt know any answers to
questions about kit or course content and kept saying to ask someone else but he wasnāt there. The room and facilities were
shockingly bad and we left quickly since it was so disappointing. UAL was different the talk by the leady of the college was very
passionate and well put together, almost too good that it was a little daunting. I then went to a talk from the leader of the course
which was similar in that I felt I may not be good enough for their course. The facilities were fantastic though and they seems to
have so many industry inks and good funding for the arts. The area on the other hand was not fantastic and is quite high in knife
crime which is worrying. Greenwich in comparison is such lovely area with great accommodation, a lovely split campus and great
facilities. I really liked the course leader and I had a great feeling about the university as a whole and that is why I ended up
choosing to apply and accept the offer from Greenwich University.
