Production reflection
- 2. Process I started by choosing the colours for the background and the character you play as in the game. It was great to see which colours would work best for the background and looked nice together. I used a few of my past experiments and examples to help me get inspired. On one of the layers, I added the colour pallete so it wasn't hard to access, and I could easily change the colour when I needed to.
- 3. Process I drew everything on different layers to make it easier to fix something if anything went wrong. Some of the layers had the background, platforms, coins or characters on them so I could access them quickly. This way I didn't have to run into tricky situations where I had to spend ages try to fix something and I could get on with what I needed to do. There was a fair amount of layers, but it was better to do this than to have it all on one layer. Having everything on one layer would've complicated the animation process, too.
- 4. Process I tried my best to make the background colourful and cheerful, adding mountains and bushes to make it look more interesting. The background wasn’t moving at all when I made it, so I decided to add in some moving clouds. Its’ hard to be very detailed when you’re just working with pixels, so I tried making the platforms and the backgrounds a little bit more interesting by adding different shades of the same colour to have a bit more of a mix rather than just one bold colour.
- 5. Process I thought I’d try adding in a menu screen for my game animation rather than going straight into the game. I used the same colours for the background because I wanted to keep the overall style of the game colourful and vibrant. I didn't end up using this though because I didn't like the style and it was hard to add in much text with such small pixels. I wasn't too impressed with the menu screen which is another reason I removed it. There wasn't an easy way for it to fade out and move on to the actual game wth a smooth transition.
- 6. Process This is the finished product. I added moving clouds and a character that went along the different platforms. Health and a coin counter were also added to make it feel more like a game. I'm very pleased with the finished product although I couldn't add too much as it's only a pixel game which can be limiting but I put as much as I could into the finished product.
