Iain magazine secondary research

Crime films generally take place in large cities with alleys, as that is where crime occurs. The characters typically originate from Italy but live in America and join the mafia. Their pride often leads to their downfall by the end of the film, with few happy endings. Iconic credit sequences open many crime films, and Saul Bass designed famous openings like Goodfellas. The editing in openings is usually slow at first and gets more exciting as an enticing incident occurs near the end.
Evaluation survey
- 50% of people felt the project was near professional standard, while 13% felt it was not. This shows that the majority found it to be professional.
- When asked if the opening made them want to watch more, 63% said yes and 88% found it at least intriguing.
- When asked if the unclear plot was intriguing, 63% said yes and the same percentages were found as the last question, indicating unclear plots intrigued viewers.
- The intended genres of crime, thriller and action seemed to come across based on audience responses about the genre.
- 75% liked the opening credits and 63% liked the transition from a quiet scene to music/titles.

Evaluation
Callum created the opening to a crime thriller film for his final major project. His footage was captured using a Canon DSLR camera in HD at 720p and 24 frames per second. He created title credits in black and white inspired by Saul Bass using After Effects. While his project differed from his original intentions of a dialogue-driven story due to limitations, he developed skills in editing, camerawork, and creating credits. He encountered constraints like a lack of actors but overcame challenges through planning and organization. Going forward, he would plan more based on his limitations and stay on top of scheduling.

Review
I completed a focus group for a radio show class and received feedback on my three stories. My strongest story was a copy-only sports story about Manchester United's exit from the FA Cup, which I delivered clearly without coughing or other issues from my cold. My weakest story was a serious news story about a migrant capsize in the Mediterranean due to stutters and sounding weird from a blocked nose. Overall, the program had varying audio levels between stories that were difficult to fully remedy, but generally had good story structures and content suitable for the college student audience.
Essay
The exit poll results for the new comedy film 'Get Hard' showed that the majority of audience members heard about the film through word of mouth or from seeing the trailer. Many people wanted to see the film because of the star power of Will Ferrell and Kevin Hart or because the trailers intrigued them. However, most respondents said the film did not live up to their expectations raised by the marketing campaign and that they would not recommend it. This demonstrates how effective marketing, trailers, and hype can be at driving box office success even for a film that ultimately disappoints audiences.

This report explores the significance of border towns and spaces for strengthening responses to young people on the move. In particular it explores the linkages of young people to local service centres with the aim of further developing service, protection, and support strategies for migrant children in border areas across the region. The report is based on a small-scale fieldwork study in the border towns of Chipata and Katete in Zambia conducted in July 2023. Border towns and spaces provide a rich source of information about issues related to the informal or irregular movement of young people across borders, including smuggling and trafficking. They can help build a picture of the nature and scope of the type of movement young migrants undertake and also the forms of protection available to them. Border towns and spaces also provide a lens through which we can better understand the vulnerabilities of young people on the move and, critically, the strategies they use to navigate challenges and access support.
The findings in this report highlight some of the key factors shaping the experiences and vulnerabilities of young people on the move – particularly their proximity to border spaces and how this affects the risks that they face. The report describes strategies that young people on the move employ to remain below the radar of visibility to state and non-state actors due to fear of arrest, detention, and deportation while also trying to keep themselves safe and access support in border towns. These strategies of (in)visibility provide a way to protect themselves yet at the same time also heighten some of the risks young people face as their vulnerabilities are not always recognised by those who could offer support.
In this report we show that the realities and challenges of life and migration in this region and in Zambia need to be better understood for support to be strengthened and tuned to meet the specific needs of young people on the move. This includes understanding the role of state and non-state stakeholders, the impact of laws and policies and, critically, the experiences of the young people themselves. We provide recommendations for immediate action, recommendations for programming to support young people on the move in the two towns that would reduce risk for young people in this area, and recommendations for longer term policy advocacy.

Production facilities
- 1. Production Facilities Radio commercials will need to be produced in either a professional radio studio internally such as Capital and they will need all the resources and software needed to make it completely independently and to a high quality. They can also be outsourced from a production house by hiring their studio and you may even pay them to edit it for you, write scripts and even cast voice actors and provide many other services such as the company below: Obviously you will also have to insure that either studio you use whether it’s a production house or the radio station you have the right equipment and software to achieve a high quality advert such as; high quality microphones (so the voice sounds the highest quality and there is no background noise to the recording) , soundproofed voice booth (to keep external sounds to a minimum and keep the internal sounds to a high quality), editing workstation and software (reaper, audacity for piecing the commercial together and starting to combine each aspect such as sound effects, voice, music and so forth and making sure the levels achieve are on balance and the volume of the commercial is fairly consistent). This company provides studios for the production of radio commercials:

Also when making the advertisement the studio will need to have a production music library to use for the advert to make the commercial more memorable and dynamic, you also have to ensure that there will be no copyright issues with the music used by ensuring the music played is royalty free our studio has a library of music that is completely copyright free as it was purchased and downloaded legally and is only used to within college grounds, here is the library:

Pre-recorded sound effects may also be needed in the studio used to achieve a high standard commercial so they will also need a library of them to make the advert more interesting and maybe even humorous. We have one in our studio too. The editing software we use in college and have accsess to is audacity, reaper and audition to edit different projects to a proffessional level. We use them for the projects that involve audio usually; podcasts, radio work or interviews. Reaper is a digital audio workstation software: a complete multitrack audio and MIDI recording, editing, processing, mixing, and mastering environment. Reaper works with almost any hardware and can be used in combination with a vast universe of other software and plug-ins. When I created my jingles for last years radio work I used audactiy to edit the sound clips and voice.
- 4. Audacity is a free, easy-to-use, multi-track audio editor and recorder for Windows, Mac OS X, GNU/Linux and other operating systems. The interface is translated into many languages. You can use Audacity to: Record live audio., Record computer playback on any Windows Vista or later machine, Convert tapes and records into digital recordings or CDs, Edit WAV, AIFF, FLAC, MP2, MP3 or Ogg Vorbis sound files, AC3, M4A/M4R (AAC), WMA and other formats supported using optional libraries, Cut, copy, splice or mix sounds together, Numerous effects including change the speed or pitch of a recording. I haven’t used this for my college work yet.
- 5. Adobe Audition is a digital audio workstation from Adobe Systems featuring both a multitrack, non-destructive mix/edit environment and a destructive-approach waveform editing view. Adobe Audition has many different features such as: - Sound Remover - Enchanted Spectral Display - Advanced Sound Design - Preview Editor - Round trip Editing Workflow - Audio Finesse - Enhanced Multitrack Editing - ITU Loudness Metering - Automatic Speech Alignment I haven’t used this software yet either.
