The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.
2. MONDAY 9TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays lesson we were put into our groups for our main media project. We had
some time to bond with our group members and then we all had to individually
come up with an idea for a film opening. We then had to create a presentation on
our ideas. This was in order for everyone’s opinions to be heard and also so that
there were 3, or more in some groups, ideas to choose from.
3. TUESDAY 10TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we all presented our individual film pitches to one another. We
then asked each other questions about the film ideas and evaluated all of them.
We decided to merge Clare and Maisie’s ideas together as they were similar and
we thought we could include a lot of detail within the icons when filming. We
decided that in our next meeting we would create a presentation for our new film
opening. Overnight we contacted each other with different ideas we could
include.
4. THURSDAY 12TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we made a presentation including genre, audience, our idea
and film influences. We all participated when making our film pitch and the group
co-operated well. We listened to potential songs that we could include in our film
and chose the best suited one. We took photographic evidence of us planning as a
team.
5. FRIDAY 13TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we presented our film pitch to our fellow class mates
explaining our film idea. Then they each filled out a feedback form giving us
constructive criticism on what we need to improve on to make our film opening
better. We collated them in and looked through them then wrote a blog post on our
main points of improvement.
6. MONDAY 16TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we planned out the job roles within our group. We decided that
Toby Lee would be the director, camera man and co-editor, Maisie smith would
take the role as producer and music/sound engineer,Clare Kelly would take the
role a group leader, editor and writer. We then created a mood board for our film
and wrote blog posts on our target audience, props and sound.
7. TUESDAY 17TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we started to work on the storyboard for our film opening. We
decided on the first 12 shots of the film and included an illustration, shot type,
timings and transitions. This will allow us to make sure we know what we are
doing on our filming day.
8. WEDNESDAY 18TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we carried on with the storyboard finalising everything, adding
in titles and timings. We also wrote drafts for the script and finalised it.
9. THURSDAY 19TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we filmed the voiceover for the storyboard and the we edited it.
We then uploaded it to YouTube in order for it to be on out blog. We also took
photos for the location recce shots.
10. FRIDAY 20TH NOVEMBER 2015
In today’s meeting we finished the last sections of planning we needed to do and
uploaded them to our blog. We completed the timeline of shots, shooting
schedule, marketing campaign and we plan to begin filming on Monday.
11. MONDAY 23RD NOVEMBER 2015
In today’s meeting we filmed the ‘in-mind’ scene for our film opening. We travelled
to our location, Maisie’s bedroom and also took photos for our location recce. We
filmed all of the shots we needed for the in-mind scene.
12. THURSDAY 26TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we decided to edit the ‘in-mind’ scene clips together so that we
could just put that section into the final edit of our film opening.
13. WEDNESDAY 25TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we filmed all the other clips needed for our film opening. We
filmed in the classroom and had all of our extras and the teacher. We filmed a
variety of shots – using different angles so that we use them as cutaway shots in
our film opening.
14. FRIDAY 27TH NOVEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we started editing the whole film opening, putting different
shots together and making difficult shots like the cutaways and match on action
shots join together seamlessly. We also went to the recording studio to record the
voiceover of the main character and the extras saying nasty insults so that they
could be put over the top of the shots.
15. THURSDAY 3RD DECEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we continued editing and worked on our film for quite a long
time so that the first draft was able to be completed for the deadline. We did some
research for the fonts and colours that we wanted our titles to be and also what
production companies we wanted our film to open with.
16. FRIDAY 11TH DECEMBER 2015
In today’s meeting we were given our class and teacher feedback on our first
draft. We first wrote a blog post on this and addressed the issues that were
brought up and how we would solve them.
17. WEDNESDAY 16TH DECEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we finished the final draft for our film opening. We made all the
improvements that were necessary and filmed some more shots of text messages
on a phone and more insults. We also added an extra voiceover at the end of a
different character so that there was enigma added to our film opening.
18. THURSDAY 17TH DECEMBER 2015
In todays meeting we made the film poster for our film opening using Photoshop.
We also finished off the last blog posts we needed.
