harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. - 1. PRODUCTION DIARY A2 MEDIA STUDIES BY XUE BAI
- 2. Progress Update Planning for next week/month Week 1&2 During the first I was introduced to overall media studies A2 course schedule. I went through the syllabus with my teacher and I have decided to work on the short film production which helped developing video production skills and knowledge from AS. Research for short film History of short film Short film codes and conventions. Week 3&4 For the second week my secondary research focus on analysis history of short film and conventions. The short film has helped me begin to develop my initial film ideas that was more complete than AS opening sequence. I made a market research to see which genre audiences would like to see. Mind map of initial film ideas Rough synopsis for each ideas Week 5&6 My task in this week was to come up several short film ideas. I was inspired by some real media texts such as Jonathan, Fight Club. I asked advice from my friends and solved our together the pros and cons of each ideas. - 3. Progress Update Planning for next week/month Week 7&8&9 I chose a final film idea from the mind map and evaluated film idea based around theme of ‘Me and I’. Around this theme, I got three more detailed film ideas connected with DID and before that I analyzed what DID is and how it present. I listed the pros and cons for these three ideas to see which one is more attractive. Genre research Pick the final idea Start Script Week 10&11 In order to get more inspired, I analyzed a range of real media texts about DID. Then I chose the specific two from them and analyzed more precise and detailed. I watched these two films(Jonathan, Me,Myself&Irene) to see how their camera work for communication between same character and continuity. Begin with storyboard Script development Week 12&13 I firstly made a rough picture of my pre- production schedule and came up with my final script. I presented to my teacher and friends and they both concluded the idea was too complex and filming in the airport was unrealistic for me. I took the advise, changed it to park which is more public. Progress Update Planning for next week/month Week 13&14 For storyboard I have drawn on the paper as a rough thinking of camera angle and mode-en-scene because I believe it’s better leave some space for further development. After I got a picture of how it will works, I made a photo story as the second stage of storyboard. For photo story I made it more specifically and I tried shoot one cut at different angle to see which one is best. Within these basic setting has been confirmed, I started the character profile to image the actor and actress that I want. Pre-production Prepare equipment and props Start filming and editing Week 15&16&17 The casting and location search went well. Depend on my story, the setting of the main characters are young couples. A seems next door girl and a random boy. As I took the advise and changed the location to the park with benches, location search was easy but I have to think about the passer by in the park whether be willing appear in the camera or not. When I finished filming I first went through everything on the screen and found some scene needed to be re-filmed. Final editing Poster card and website page design Week 18&19 As music is such an important aspect of a film I searched the internet to find an intense and uplifting instrumental piece that I could use in my film and it’s free without copy right. - 5. Progress Update Planning for next week/month Week 20&21&22 Having completed my film I began making the website and postcard for ‘3in1’. I first carried out the research into the codes and conventions of a successful short film website and postcard. Started by a hand drawn postcard front and website home page draft. Using Adobe Photoshop and Publisher which I used through As level coursework, I post my postcard to a high standard through manipulating images. I also used Wix for my website design. As it was my first time using this software I was not able to achieve the results that I expected, but I presented to a test market, the reaction was quite well and said that Wix is easy to use. Critical evaluation Week 23&24 I uploaded the Minor task and starting my evaluation. I have began my evaluation Prezi and answering question.
