Continuous delivery in 10 easy mistakes, and how to do better - Kim van Wilge...Codemotion
With agile principles and practices reaching maturity, in many organizations the focus for the coming years will be on the next steps. Beyond agile. In fast pace organizations are adopting agile, DevOps, continuous delivery and new architectures such as microservices. Often all at once. Although from a perspective of similarities between these paradigms this makes sense, this also is a recipe for failures and hard lessons to be learned. Kim van Wilgen will share her experiences from the pipeline to the enterprise level and from failure to success.

Webinar: From MVP to a Scalable In-House Solution by ChargedUp Head PMProduct School
Main takeaways:
- Journey on inheriting an MVP via an agency, to building a user-centric, in-house tech team, including a fab CTO
- User research, prototyping, and product validation
- How to infuse accessibility to make the product help as many users as possible
Project To Product: How we transitioned to product-aligned value streamsTasktop
The project to product movement is quickly gathering speed - a recent Gartner report found that 85% of respondents are shifting to a product-centric mentality. However, the complexity and uncertainty of software delivery at scale, coupled with the sheer number of people involved in the process, is too much for traditional project management techniques. Motivation is not enough to achieve a successful transformation—the product-centric model requires new skill sets, different investments and a change in culture.
What does the shift away from project-thinking really look like?
During this webinar, Tasktop VP of Product Development, Nicole Bryan, combines our own journey with the experience of working with our enterprise customers, to paint a clear picture of the cross-organizational challenges in store - and how you can address them by:
- Adopting a “customer-first” mindset
- Appointing a Product Value Stream Lead and a Product Manager
- Implementing the Flow Framework™ to align the language of IT with the language of the business

Companies don't understand how to define Product Management, and thus usually struggle when trying to create a Product Management organization. This presentation -- originally presented at ProductCamp Boston in April 2011 -- provides some guidance on how to think about an organization that is scalable and can deliver on the diverse needs that companies demand of Product Management.

Cross-Functional Teams: A Product Manager's NirvanaMovel
Cross-functional teams solve challenging problems faster by employing multi-disciplinary approach and delivering business value early and often. The fact that multi-disciplinary team members work on the same problem at the same time brings a number of advantages, of which speed of delivery and product quality are most important. The ability to listen and consider other viewpoints is a key to understanding tough problems and when applied properly, the results can be spectacular!
In this 60-minute session, we’re going to explore the benefits of cross-functional teams and look at how Product Managers can employ cross-functional teams to drive business value. We will look at key aspects of successful cross-functional teams such as:
How cross-functional teams maximize business value
* Alignment of business goals and return on investment
* How to assemble a cross-functional team
* Technology and the stack – no need to be an expert, but an understanding of the stack can help balance the business with the technical stories
* Driving user experience – here again, the PM is not a UI/UX designer, but someone who has the final say of the overall direction or “feel” of the product
* Diving the work among the x-functional team
* Epic and story definition when working with cross-functional teams
* Tracking progress
* How to prioritize features based on a technology stack
We’re going to look at ways to recruit and retain cross-functional talent and some of the organizational challenges that can arise as a result of this new team structure.
The audience of product managers, product owners, executives, technical managers and recruiting managers will learn what makes cross-functional teams successful, look at industry best practices and apply these strategies in their own organizations.
FRESH CONTENT
When it comes to food, organic is all the rage.
There are whole sections of the grocery store focused
on organic fruits and vegetables. It’s featured front and
center on packaging. And it comes with a premium price.
In business, though, it’s the inorganic growth we talk about
most: mergers, acquisitions, partnerships, takeovers. Those are the stories that fill the news and grab the headlines. And they can be powerful tools, as Frank Tait writes about in this issue.
But what if we put just a little more focus on organic
growth, on thinking about how we can leverage the products,
organizations, processes, customers, markets, etc. already in
place to drive growth? With the right focus, could we move
beyond slow and steady growth and really start to drive the
numbers and scale our business naturally?
Those were the driving questions as we put together this
issue of Pragmatic Marketer and why we’ve gathered a
team of thought leaders to talk about everything from how
to cultivate the right employees to how to grow through
segmentation. And as always, we’ve tried to include
actionable tools and tips you can implement immediately. So
grab a coffee and dig in!

Profitability: SaaS Versus On Premise SolutionsAspire Systems
SaaS is being increasingly adopted and is even considered a savior model in this economy due to the zero upfront CAPEX for buyers. Still the question remains if SaaS is a profitable model for solution providers? Regardless of the longer sales cycles, is the on-premise solution providing faster break-even?
This webinar moderated by Aspire Systems, where Amy Wohl of Wohl Associates and Alex Ginger, Director of Active Operations Management International, a SaaS provider discussed the two business models, in light of the current economic situation.
Some of key topics discussed were:
- Cost factors – developmental, operational and marketing costs
- Revenue factors – sales cycle, pricing models, etc.
- Benefits/drawbacks of both the business models
- Will a hybrid pricing/delivery model provide better benefits?

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.
Climate Science Flows: Enabling Petabyte-Scale Climate Analysis with the Eart...Globus
The Earth System Grid Federation (ESGF) is a global network of data servers that archives and distributes the planet’s largest collection of Earth system model output for thousands of climate and environmental scientists worldwide. Many of these petabyte-scale data archives are located in proximity to large high-performance computing (HPC) or cloud computing resources, but the primary workflow for data users consists of transferring data, and applying computations on a different system. As a part of the ESGF 2.0 US project (funded by the United States Department of Energy Office of Science), we developed pre-defined data workflows, which can be run on-demand, capable of applying many data reduction and data analysis to the large ESGF data archives, transferring only the resultant analysis (ex. visualizations, smaller data files). In this talk, we will showcase a few of these workflows, highlighting how Globus Flows can be used for petabyte-scale climate analysis.
Code reviews are vital for ensuring good code quality. They serve as one of our last lines of defense against bugs and subpar code reaching production.
Yet, they often turn into annoying tasks riddled with frustration, hostility, unclear feedback and lack of standards. How can we improve this crucial process?

- The Art of Effective Code Reviews
- Streamlining the Review Process
- Elevating Reviews with Automated Tools
By the end of this presentation, you'll have the knowledge on how to organize and improve your code review proces

Innovating Inference - Remote Triggering of Large Language Models on HPC Clus...Globus
Large Language Models (LLMs) are currently the center of attention in the tech world, particularly for their potential to advance research. In this presentation, we'll explore a straightforward and effective method for quickly initiating inference runs on supercomputers using the vLLM tool with Globus Compute, specifically on the Polaris system at ALCF. We'll begin by briefly discussing the popularity and applications of LLMs in various fields. Following this, we will introduce the vLLM tool, and explain how it integrates with Globus Compute to efficiently manage LLM operations on Polaris. Attendees will learn the practical aspects of setting up and remotely triggering LLMs from local machines, focusing on ease of use and efficiency. This talk is ideal for researchers and practitioners looking to leverage the power of LLMs in their work, offering a clear guide to harnessing supercomputing resources for quick and effective LLM inference.
Understanding Globus Data Transfers with NetSageGlobus
NetSage is an open privacy-aware network measurement, analysis, and visualization service designed to help end-users visualize and reason about large data transfers. NetSage traditionally has used a combination of passive measurements, including SNMP and flow data, as well as active measurements, mainly perfSONAR, to provide longitudinal network performance data visualization. It has been deployed by dozens of networks world wide, and is supported domestically by the Engagement and Performance Operations Center (EPOC), NSF #2328479. We have recently expanded the NetSage data sources to include logs for Globus data transfers, following the same privacy-preserving approach as for Flow data. Using the logs for the Texas Advanced Computing Center (TACC) as an example, this talk will walk through several different example use cases that NetSage can answer, including: Who is using Globus to share data with my institution, and what kind of performance are they able to achieve? How many transfers has Globus supported for us? Which sites are we sharing the most data with, and how is that changing over time? How is my site using Globus to move data internally, and what kind of performance do we see for those transfers? What percentage of data transfers at my institution used Globus, and how did the overall data transfer performance compare to the Globus users?
