You and your colleagues are all doing great things with Splunk. But you seldom come together to share ideas, apps and best practices. This session will help you take Splunk to the next level by helping you establish a Splunk Center of Excellence (CoE) at your organization. The purpose of a COE is simple - to provide Splunk users an informal venue in which they can discuss ideas, diagnose challenges, share innovations and network with peers. This session will share the best practices you need to create and maintain a successful CoE practice.
Integrating security into the development of an application or software is necessary to decrease its risk of susceptibility to attacks and exploits. Traditional methods of security testing were performed on a finished product. However, with the rise in the intensity and the number of attack vectors, it has become necessary for organizations to include it as a part of every phase of an SDLC.
eDiscovery is a costly and tedious process that requires the adherence to Rules of Civil Procedure and Rules of Evidence. To ensure that the process is handled correctly and to avoid issues that result from errors and the failure to adhere to applicable rules Six Sigma can be implemented during the various eDiscovery phases to reduce errors.

Breached! App Attacks, Application Protection and Incident ResponseResilient Systems
Software applications, like outward facing Web applications, are consistently ranked as one of the top threat vectors. For example, according to a recent report from Trustwave, SQL injection was the attack method for 26% of all reported breaches. Indeed despite being a decade-old, well understood vulnerability, SQL injection flaws remain present in 32% of applications.
This webinar will first explain software application vulnerabilities and define their various types. It will also present recent research findings about the prevalence of these vulnerabilities and their impact. From there it will discuss what organizations can do to harden their applications. Finally, the webinar will cover best practices for responding to a successful application attack.

How to analyze text data with Named Entity RecognitionSkyl.ai
The internet is a rich source of data, mainly textual data. But making use of huge quantities of data is a complex and time-consuming task. NLP can help with this problem through the use of Named Entity Recognition systems. Named entities are terms that refer to names, organisations, locations, values etc. NER annotates texts – marking where and what type of named entities occurred in it. This step significantly simplifies further use of such data, allowing for easy categorisation of documents, analyze sentiments, improving automatically generated summaries, etc.
Further, in many industries, the vocabulary keeps changing and growing with new research, abbreviations, long and complex constructions and makes it difficult to get accurate results or use rule-based methods. Named Entity Recognition and Classification can help to effectively extract, tag, index, and manage this fast and ever-growing knowledge.
Through this webinar, we will understand how NER can be used to extract key entities from large volumes of text data.
What you will learn:
- How organizations are leveraging Named Entity Recognition across various industries
- Live demo - Identify & classify complex terms & with NERC (Named Entity Recognition & Categorization)
- Best practice to automate machine learning models in hours not months
Beyond the Scan: The Value Proposition of Vulnerability AssessmentDamon Small
Vulnerability Assessment is, by some, regarded as one of the least “sexy” capabilities in information security. However, it is the presenter’s view that it is also a key component of any successful infosec program, and one that is often overlooked. Doing so serves an injustice to the organization and results in many missed opportunities to help ensure success in protecting critical information assets. The presenter will explore how Vulnerability Assessment can be leveraged “Beyond the Scan” and provide tangible value to not only the security team, but the entire business that it supports.

Value Driven Development by Dave Thomas Naresh Jain
Agile, OOP... are like good hygiene in the kitchen, it results in meals with consistent quality and predictable prep and service times. It doesn't result in great meals nor substantially impact the ROI! Lean Thinking clearly shows that the only way to make a significant impact is to improve the value chain by improving flow. If everyone is following best practices no one has competitive advantage. Major improvements in the value chain depend on continued disruptive innovations. Innovations leverage people and their ideas. We use case studies to illustrate the different business and technical innovations and their impact. We conclude with a discussion of how to build and leverage an innovation culture versus a sprint death march when dealing with high value time to market projects.

Amp Up Your Testing by Harnessing Test DataTechWell
The data tsunami is coming—or maybe it’s already here. Data science, big data, and machine learning are the buzzwords of the day. Data is changing our products and the way we build them, so we should also change the way we verify our products. In a world of increasing connectivity and accelerated deadlines, data can provide an edge. But what role should data play in assessing the quality of software? Where does it make sense to use data, and where is it inappropriate? Steve Rowe covers the history of how data fits into testing, explains why data is an important tool to have in your quality toolkit, and presents strategies for adding data to your testing plans and using it more effectively in your testing.
DevSecOps is a new way to deliver security as part of the Software Supply Chain. It supports a built-in process and faster security feedback loop for DevOps teams.

First Steps with Globus Compute Multi-User EndpointsGlobus
In this presentation we will share our experiences around getting started with the Globus Compute multi-user endpoint. Working with the Pharmacology group at the University of Auckland, we have previously written an application using Globus Compute that can offload computationally expensive steps in the researcher's workflows, which they wish to manage from their familiar Windows environments, onto the NeSI (New Zealand eScience Infrastructure) cluster. Some of the challenges we have encountered were that each researcher had to set up and manage their own single-user globus compute endpoint and that the workloads had varying resource requirements (CPUs, memory and wall time) between different runs. We hope that the multi-user endpoint will help to address these challenges and share an update on our progress here.

Large Language Models and the End of ProgrammingMatt Welsh
Talk by Matt Welsh at Craft Conference 2024 on the impact that Large Language Models will have on the future of software development. In this talk, I discuss the ways in which LLMs will impact the software industry, from replacing human software developers with AI, to replacing conventional software with models that perform reasoning, computation, and problem-solving.
In software engineering, the right architecture is essential for robust, scalable platforms. Wix has undergone a pivotal shift from event sourcing to a CRUD-based model for its microservices. This talk will chart the course of this pivotal journey.
Event sourcing, which records state changes as immutable events, provided robust auditing and "time travel" debugging for Wix Stores' microservices. Despite its benefits, the complexity it introduced in state management slowed development. Wix responded by adopting a simpler, unified CRUD model. This talk will explore the challenges of event sourcing and the advantages of Wix's new "CRUD on steroids" approach, which streamlines API integration and domain event management while preserving data integrity and system resilience.
Participants will gain valuable insights into Wix's strategies for ensuring atomicity in database updates and event production, as well as caching, materialization, and performance optimization techniques within a distributed system.
Join us to discover how Wix has mastered the art of balancing simplicity and extensibility, and learn how the re-adoption of the modest CRUD has turbocharged their development velocity, resilience, and scalability in a high-growth environment.
OpenFOAM solver for Helmholtz equation, helmholtzFoam / helmholtzBubbleFoamtakuyayamamoto1800
In this slide, we show the simulation example and the way to compile this solver.
In this solver, the Helmholtz equation can be solved by helmholtzFoam. Also, the Helmholtz equation with uniformly dispersed bubbles can be simulated by helmholtzBubbleFoam.
Providing Globus Services to Users of JASMIN for Environmental Data AnalysisGlobus
JASMIN is the UK’s high-performance data analysis platform for environmental science, operated by STFC on behalf of the UK Natural Environment Research Council (NERC). In addition to its role in hosting the CEDA Archive (NERC’s long-term repository for climate, atmospheric science & Earth observation data in the UK), JASMIN provides a collaborative platform to a community of around 2,000 scientists in the UK and beyond, providing nearly 400 environmental science projects with working space, compute resources and tools to facilitate their work. High-performance data transfer into and out of JASMIN has always been a key feature, with many scientists bringing model outputs from supercomputers elsewhere in the UK, to analyse against observational or other model data in the CEDA Archive. A growing number of JASMIN users are now realising the benefits of using the Globus service to provide reliable and efficient data movement and other tasks in this and other contexts. Further use cases involve long-distance (intercontinental) transfers to and from JASMIN, and collecting results from a mobile atmospheric radar system, pushing data to JASMIN via a lightweight Globus deployment. We provide details of how Globus fits into our current infrastructure, our experience of the recent migration to GCSv5.4, and of our interest in developing use of the wider ecosystem of Globus services for the benefit of our user community.

2. Digital transformation is the profound and accelerating
transformation of business activities, processes,
competencies and models to fully leverage the changes
and opportunities of digital technologies and their
impact across society in a strategic and prioritized way.
Digital transformation/Digitization
3. • Application of digital technologies to almost
everything in our life.
• Change in ecosystem (business, product, project)
• Change in customers behavior
• Continuous technology innovation
What does this mean?
4. • Increased complexity
• More options of “what can go wrong”
• Time is becoming even more rare resource
• Far far away from our comfort zone
What should we care?
5. Complexity?

6. ”Entropy: lack of order or predictability; gradual decline into disorder.”
What can go wrong?
8. • It’s totally different from the way you used to
work before
• Challenges are always hard but we need to make
them as less painful as possible
• Only in motion is the future
It’s time to change
9. We should start thinking not only about how
to supplement quality at a certain point in time,
but also how to ensure this level of quality is
predictable and remains the same throughout the
entire project lifecycle in spite of frequent changes
and varying release timeframes.
How to change?
10. Where to start?
• Analyze existing process
• Benchmark this process against industry standards (and common sense)
• Create detailed plan on how to move from AS-IS to TO-BE
• Synchronize expectations
• For new projects experience design exercise is a must
• Avoid surprises
11. • Identify risks and gaps
• Create mitigation and contingency plans
• Track and review risks
• Plan your testing based on risks
#1 Use risk-based approach
13. Main principles:
• Right area for test automation
• Appropriate tool
• People with required skills
• Understanding ROI
#3 Use smart test automation
14. • Metrics that really make sense
• Regularly check health of your projects
(analyze numbers)
• Use data for planning and potential risks
identification
