Overpopulation of urban areas has led to numerous problems. The document discusses two major problems caused by rising sea levels: flooding of coastal residences, displacing millions of people from their homes and possessions, and provides the example of the 2011 Japan tsunami. It then suggests that building flood barriers like dikes and dams could help solve the problem by stopping flood waters from reaching populated areas, citing the Netherlands' successful flood defense systems. The document also notes some countries have issues with increasing weight and decreasing health/fitness levels and suggests causes could be people eating too much unhealthy, convenient food and junk food, leading to weight gain and health issues as shown in the movie "Super Size Me." A possible solution proposed is national awareness campaigns to

5. The foremost problem caused by sea levels
creeping up is the flooding of peoples’ residences.
Millions of people all over the world live in coastal areas
and if the sea rises by even a few feet, they will be
inundated with water and lose their property. Shelter is
one of the most basic of human needs and widespread
flooding would cause millions of people to become
homeless, not to mention losing all of their possessions.
The example of devastation brought about by this was
during the 2011 Tsunami in Japan, in which millions of
people were displaced.

7. *A possible solution to this problem would be to build
flood barriers. Flood defenses, such as dikes, dams and
floodgates, could be built along coasts and waterways,
thereby stopping the water reaching populated areas.
The Netherlands is one of the most populated areas in
the world and also one of the most vulnerable to
flooding and they have successfully employed various
flood defense systems.
