Greek Philosophers
People travel from many parts of the world to view the great architectural structures Greece has to
offer. They are not only intrigued by the beauty of the buildings but also by their complex
development. Greeks tradition of building structure came from the ideas of Philosophers such as
Thales,Pythagoras, and Archimedes, who questioned their being and challenged their world to find
meaning to certain practical applications. From their inquisitions, the Greek Philosophers developed
basic but complex strategies that served the purpose of a foundation to many other technical
advancements. The Philosopher s concepts were questioned at times for they went completely against
the Greeks normal way of life. In the Greek culture, gods were ... Show more content on

With Archimedes invention of the Archimedes Screw water from a lower location could be easily
transferred to a higher point. This advancement of simple technique placed Archimedes face on the
wall of great Philosophers. The screw pump was only just a start to the development of the piping
system. Farmers mostly benefitted from this advancement for now they were able to transfer water
from their wells to other parts of the field. With the screw pump came the lever principle. If there is a
heavy weight on one side then it should be equalized on the other side in order to make it move.
Architectures used this law of mechanics to make their work easier as they would be able to move
boulders that were in the way of their duty. Greek Philosophers have made drastic changes from a
basic lifestyle to one of questioning. Their persistence to find meaning behind basic concepts has lead
to great technological advancements that are still used in today s world. The law of nature by Thales
proved that there is a system to the world and there is more to what is seen. Pythagoras uses that
strategy of observation to create a rule for sound and the way it travels. Archimedes used both theories
to point out the rule of mechanics and the way things move. Without these early advancements, the
world would probably be an era

Walmart is known for its innovative solutions in retail, logistics and distribution of goods which
reduces the cost of procurement of goods and thus can offer its customers the very low prices which
are eventually reflected in the global success of Walmart, and I think it is really a great opportunity for
innovation in walmart will take very good for success in the online market.
Walmart s knowledge of the market is its wide range of customers who buy at retail are very big
advantage compared to amazon.com and a very good foundation for success in the online market to
Walmart in the near future to take advantage and become the market leader of online sellers. Factor
that currently limits the growth and development of the Walmart stores is limited to the place of
delivery, ie they do not deliver their goods to customers outside the U.S. and I think there are very
large room for improvement at least to start in those countries where they are present and their
physical stores .

Shopping offers at both sites was quite the same, and the difference in the offer. Differences exist in
the organization of individual product categories. Both sites are categorized their products in similar
categories, which is pretty much: ingredients for everyday consumption, electronic equipment,

Thesis Statement For Online Shopping
2.1 Problem statement:
During research of this topic, a problem statement has been formulated that I believe requires some
researching into. As with any problem statement, it needs to address the 6 questions that always would
get asked concerning research worthy problem statements namely.
The problem, noted in this study, is that the exact reasons behind the sudden expansion of online
shopping are unknown.
One thing that is certain is that the world has become more connected and this growth in online
shopping has become a necessity to keep abreast of modern times.
2.2 Thesis statement

This study will explain where e commerce came from and try to shed light on the topic of where e
commerce will be heading.
2.6 The substantial idea / significant original contribution:
E commerce is a product that has been available since the early 90 s. It is something that people are
familiar with. A product that is now part and parcel of people s lives.
The idea is to find out the reasons behind the growth in e commerce. How it began, what it is today
and where it will be going in the future.
This study will prove that e commerce has grown because it adds value to people s lives. It will show
that e commerce will not disappear but evolve into something even greater than what it is right now.
2.7 Significance of solution to theory:
The idea behind this study is of great significance because e commerce (online shopping) has grown
tremendously since the turn of the century. It has shaped the way people do shopping for the most
part.
The availability of products that could only be bought at certain shops which may have been difficult

Drug Court Reflection
When I came into Drug Court, I was lost and confused. I thought it was a joke and I thought I could
keep doing what I wanted to do. I thought the Judge and everyone on the team was just out to get me.
I didn t know who I was because I built my life on lies. I never aspired to anything great. Being in
Drug Court this long has shown me that the Judge and the Drug Court team really do care about each
and every one of us personally. I can see that the Drug Court team cares and always has time for me
no matter what, to give me so much encouragement. It wasn t until I was in Drug Court that my life
changed and I believe that I was headed for a prison sentence which that didn t matter to me at the
time. Drug Court showed that they believe in us, that we are okay, and they really do care about us to
take the time to help us. It has taught me to be more of a responsible person. Going to jail was
honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me and I needed to be in there. I no longer
wanted to be everyone s burden and the family disappointment. I have realized what all I have put my
mom through and I am sorry for all the wrong I ve done, the sleepless nights, the broken promises,
and the stealing of money. I m sorry for the embarrassment I ve caused. I m sorry for all of the pain,
arguments and stress. I want my mom understand that I never intended to hurt her. I have learned a lot
about myself that I never knew existed, because the person I used to be is a totally different person
than I am today. Me wanting to change is why I changed and I changed everything. If people didn t
share the same interest as me or I sensed any type of negativity that could rub off on me, I
disassociated myself with those people. If you decide to change you have to change everything, not
just the areas that are convenient for you. No one can force you to do it and some do it cause they are
told to but when they are done with their program, they end up going right back to where they started
off. Drug Court is not easy and I have sat through a lot of graduations, and I would always hear the
graduates say if I can do it so can you and I am sorry to say that is just not true, or everyone would
graduate. I have seen a couple of

An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley is full of lies and...
J.B. Priestley sets the play in a lavish and happy environment. Without Priestley even telling the
audience that the play is set pre war it is obvious because of all the available luxuries and fineries such
as champagne glasses and dessert plates . The war caused great shortages in goods and food, which
led to rationing. No one in 1945 (when the play was written) would have been able to create a
luxuriant celebratory dinner. This cunning use of setting deliberately reminds the audience of some of
the luxuries lost because of the war.
The play, An Inspector Calls , uses moralistic irony to reflect on achievements made today. He reveals
the weaknesses and wickedness not only in society, but in the individual characters; which I explain ...

This is surely what is featured in An Inspector Calls.
The 1912 society was a wicked one with evidence of wrong doing, sinfulness, spite, vileness
(wickedness), a society in which there was no equality, democracy, or benefits. Without these
important factors, a society cannot function, and wickedness is decreed in society. Weakness and
wickedness is distributed throughout the play on an individual basis, mostly due to the hypocrisy and
aristocracy of society.
Mr Birling is delineated as a respectable and successful business man, with a wealthy family.
Although by looking beyond the text we can determine that Mr Birling was in fact a selfish, greedy
despot. This is not entirely Mr Birling s fault; it is more to do with the format of society.
Mr Birling was paying Eva twenty two an six (a subsistent amount of money). Eva requested twenty
five shillings . Mr Birling refused to pay and after Eva Smith stood up for what she believed in, she
was sacked.
The fact that Mr Birling acted, and fired Eva shows he was harsh in his actions. Also the fact that no
one found anything wrong with Mr Birling s action, which is an example of wrong doing defines
wickedness/weakness in society.
Sheila Birling s sub sequential actions also encouraged Eva Smith to commit suicide. Sheila was the
one who got Eva Smith fired from Milwards shop. When Sheila was trying on the dress, Eva laughed.

This is the biggest thing II have learned not only from the plays I have read but from this entire
English class. We learn things on a parallel level with plays on one hand we learn what the play is
telling us from the dialogue the actors say. But on the other hand, we learn what the playwright was
trying to tell us. And in Oscar Wilde play the important of being earnest, there s a lesson in the story
about lying well just get you all tied up and in a bigger and deeper situation that you started, but it also
does this by poking fun and all the high and mighty aristocrats of the Victorian era. It was Saturday

Romeo And Juliet Rhetorical Analysis
In Romeo and Juliet Shakespeare uses oxymora to help describe complicated human emotions. People
can have two opposing emotions such as love and hate. This is accuratly protrayed throughout the play
but mostly with the character of Juliet. For example Juliet uses the oxymoron fiend angelical in her
speech. This oxymoron means devil angle. Representing the fact that Juliet is struggling with her
interpation of Romeo character after he killed Tybalt. She thinks he may have the same traits as the
devil such as cruelness and wickedness. But her love for him makes her find it hard to belive that that
can be possible. She thinks of an angle in their love. Pure and happy is what she sees him as and
subconciously wishes he was.

A Long Way Gone Theme Essay
A Long Way Gone
In this essay I m going to be discussing three themes from the novel A Long Way Gone By Ishmael
Beah. The three themes I am going to be talking about are survival, family, and war. There are many
themes in this novel, but I believe these are the three most important ones. I will explain each theme,
give quotes from the book showing the theme and then explain how they are significant and show the
theme.
In A Long Way Gone, A big part of the story is Ishmael explaining what he and his friends had to do to
stay alive through the civil war. This is showing the theme, survival. Survival is to show that it wasn t
easy for him, or for anyone. Everyone was scared the might die, which caused people to do irrational
things. This ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Junior gave me his bucket, took my empty one, and returned to the river. When he came home, the
first thing he did was ask me if I was hurt from falling. I told him I was fine, but he examined my
knees and elbows anyways, and when he was done, he tickled me. (pg. 39) This shows the theme
because Junior, his older brother, didn t learn any magic, but he wanted to keep Ishmael s imagination
running, and give him something to believe in. When Ishmael fell, It was obvious that Junior cared
deeply about his younger brother and wanted to make sure he was okay after falling. Another example
of family as a theme is towards the end of the book, when Ishmael is talking about when he was
seven. He wrote, Pa Sesay, one of my friends grandfather, had told us many stories that night, but

Queen Bee Classifications
The Queen Bee and Her Court
Classification is the action or process of classifying something according to shared qualities or
characteristics. In The Queen Bee and Her Court Rosalind Wiseman talked about classifying high
school cliques. These classifications are: The Queen Bee, Sidekick, Banker, Floater, Torn Bystander,
Pleaser/Wannabe/Messenger, and Target. The Queen Bee is the ringleader of this clique. She is the one
who tells everyone what to do and she is not intimidated by anyone. The Sidekick is a pushover. The
Banker is extremely secretive. The Floater spends time with any and everyone in the school. The Torn
Bystander is not good at saying no to her friends. The Pleaser/Wannabe/Messenger is the person who
has all of the gossip.
My classifications on people are both negative and positive. My negative classifications are: all
caucasians are snobby, rich, and selfish, all blonde women are dumb, and only anorexic women can

The Bronze And Iron Age Essay
Classics Essay
Question: 1 What Can Homer tell us about the Bronze and Iron Age
The Bronze and Iron Ages were 2 of the main periods in Greek History and Homer can tell us a lot
about them. The Bronze Age was all about mixing copper with tin or arsenic to bronze hence it is
called the Bronze Age. The Iron Age was when the whole of the east Mediterranean was in crisis. In
central Anatolia, the collapse of the Hitties opened the gates to invaders who overran the country.
Firstly, let s talk about Homer a lot of the works that he wrote were set in the Bronze Age and Iron
Age. Homer is the first known European poet and of such importance to the Greeks. Homer became
the basis for Greek education and is still widely read in high schools and universities today. He is the
best primary source for knowing what the Greeks were thinking in the eighth century B.C. as they
fought each other and sailed across dangerous seas to found new city states in alien lands. Greeks
believe that that heroic society described by Homer flourished at a time corresponding to the 13th or
early 12th century in our chronology. Homers greatest works are the Iliad and Odyssey. The both tell
the story of heroes trying to survive their way through war and other things. Here is just an example of
Homer s poetry He cast on the fire bronze which is weariness, and tin with it and valuable gold and
silver and thereafter set forth upon its standard the great anvil, and gripped . The poems of Illiad depict

Work related stress develops because a person is unable to cope with the demands being placed on
them. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is known to be
linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as more errors. There
is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is
often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Stress occurs when this
pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when they perceive that the demands of their
work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping means balancing the demands and pressures placed
on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example,
if you give a member of your team a tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills
nor ability to do well, they may begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress.
Stress can also result from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued
and lack recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it,
this may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful
can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what

Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar
The postwar 1950s launched the modernist period in English Literature, which suggested a more
pessimistic perception of society through societal nonconformity, decay, and alienation. Sylvia Plath s
The Bell Jar, a parallel to her life, expresses Esther Greenwood s character in pursuit of morality in the
reality she faces in the modern society. Esther discovers that the society is not as pure as it seems and
has underlying truths behind its deceptive appearance. To emphasize her realization, she mentions the
color white two hundred fourteen times in the novel. Although the color white often symbolizes purity,
goodness, and innocence, Esther gives white a negative connotation in the novel. Esther depicts the
reality of the society as fabricated through the recurring motif of the color white, which symbolizes
hopelessness and a stigma in the optimistic society.
Esther s classification of the color white as a stain in the purity of the society is visible through her
dissolved hope in Buddy Willard. She completely trusts Buddy Willard and imagines a prospective
marriage with him when she perceives him as an honest and truthful individual. Esther s stay in New
York alters her assessment of society since she is unable to see through reality, having been raised in a
restricted environment. Her perspective changes when she realizes the truth behind his facade of being
pure. Esther describes Buddy Willard by the color white: And he looked so proud of having thought of
this that I

Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism
Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism can set restrictions on a person s behavior.
Environmental Determinism is the view that the environment can have a great impact on a person s

Geographical Determinism. Biological Determinism is the view that a person s genetic material can
set limits on a person s behavior. Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism are

Racist beliefs related to moral and intellectual characteristics still persist. The belief that one s race is
superior to many other races still exists to this day. This is how Biological Determinism affects based
on a person s genetic material.
Third, Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism are similar because everyone is
affected by Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism. Environments affect the
survival and growth of a person. Different environments affect a person s culture and decision making.
Environmental factors have a strong impact on a person. A gene is a unit of hereditary information that
occupies a fixed position on a Chromosome (Encyclopedia Britannica). A Chromosome is a
Threadlike part of the cell that carries hereditary information in the form of Genes (Encyclopedia
Britannica). A defining feature of any chromosome is its compactness. For instance, the 46
chromosomes found in human cells have a combined length of 200 nm (1 nm = 10− 9 metre); if the
chromosomes were to be unraveled, the genetic material they contain would measure roughly 2 metres
(about 6.5 feet) in length (Encyclopedia Britannica). Human beings rely on genetic material. People
pass on genetic traits to offspring. Phenotype is the interaction between Biology and the environment.
Environmental Determinism and Biological Determinism are similar in many ways.

Victims Of Homosexuals During The Holocaust
The holocaust started in 1933 when hitler was the ruler. At first, Hitler didn t want to kill the Jews he
just wanted them to leave. The Jews didn t want to leave their homes. When hitler start to kill them he
brought them to concentration camps. He brought them to the camps by a train. During the Holocaust,
German authorities also targeted others groups because of their race. Other groups were persecuted on
political, ideological, and behavioral grounds, among them Communists, Socialists, Jehovah s
Witnesses, and homosexuals. Although Jews, whom the Nazis deemed a priority danger to Germany,
were the primary victims of Nazi racism, other victims included some 200,000 Roma. At least 200,000
mentally or physically disabled patients, mainly Germans, living in institutional settings, were
murdered in the so called Euthanasia Program. The Nazis sent 10,000 15,000 homosexuals to
concentration camps where they were forced to wear pink triangles. The Nazis also carried out pseudo
research to find out if homosexuality was inherited by injecting them with male hormones. They
offered homosexuals their freedom if they would agree to be castrated or submit themselves to sexual
abuse and prostitution. Under these conditions, an estimated 6,000 9,000 homosexual inmates died in

The Color Of Water Analysis
Color of God The Color of Water is the story of about a young black man, James McBride, finding
himself through his mother, Ruth McBride. He tells his story, focusing on his childhood in New York
City. His white mother also tells her story, where she was raised a Jew. She married a black man and
had eight children, including James. Before James was even born, her husband died. She remarried to
another black man and had four more children, all black. While growing, James and his siblings look
for answers about their odd lives in their mother. One of their common questions is about skin color.
After church one day, James asks his mother about the color of God. What color is God s spirit It
doesn t have a color, she said. God is the color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
She is very spiritual, emphasizing the importance of church and God to her children. Mommy loved
God. She went to church each and every Sunday, the only white person in sight... (McBride 45). She
tells the children children to focus on their education and God, not the color of their skin. To the her,
the only person whose opinion matters is God. If God loves both whites and blacks, why should it
matter what color one s skin is? If this view was shared by all Americans, life for blacks would have
been much easier. This is why Ruth McBride sees no problem with marrying a black man. He is just
another human being, whom she loved. When her first husband died, leaving her with eight children,
she remarried quickly. Like the first, he was black, and she was able to look past the color of his skin
and see his humanity. She, like God, sees past his skin and looks within. He also dies, but not before
giving Ruth four more children, making a total of twelve children, all with different skin color than
Ruth. If all Americans, both then and now, were able to look past the outside, whether it be race, sex,
sexual orientation, or religion, America would be a better place to live. James, on the other hand, is

lower total cost? Why?
Alternative 2 has the lowest total per a procedure cost. Operating costs of Alternative 1 is $86.15,
which is lower than Alternative 2 of $92.15Alternative 2 is higher in operation al cost because there is
six dollars in extra costs assessed with travel and set up costs. When the other costs, which include

increase is not as substantial as Alternative1 but still increase by approximately $7.75 per total cost
procedure.
In short term of 3 years I would Pick Alternative 2 as it is still the lowest cost and does not a
substantial increase in cost from the base case.
Long run 7 years
Alternative 1 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures

Alternative 2 o The per a procedure Capital cost decrease as the life span increase as more procedures

Rites Of Passage Arnold Van Gennep Summary
In the book The Rites of Passage by Arnold van Gennep, he discusses how we must separate ourselves
from our norm in response to a crisis; like growing up. We then are exposed to new ideas and routines
that we must follow; entering and leaving teenage years. Finally, we gather what was learned and
reappear as a new self; an adult. Growing up, we experience adulthood at one point or another. Some
happen earlier than others and vice versa. As a child, you are able to do as you please. You can
hangout with your friends after completing easy homework assignments and life seems to be good.
Once you hit your teenage years, your elder begin to discuss with you what adult life is like and what
choices you will have to make in the next coming years.

The Maine Food Cluster Project
Sam Alexander
ENGN 9: Final Paper
December 7, 2016 THE MAINE FOOD CLUSTER PROJECT
Abstract
The Libra Foundation should work to expand food clusters in Maine to bolster a fragmented Maine
agricultural industry. Specifically, Libra should focus their support on processing and distribution
channels that will expand the product market and initial value. In this report, I will explore various
possible actions of the Libra Foundation and explain why, given the background of the Maine food
industry and Libra s attributes, the direction I have recommended is the optimal next step.
Overview In this paper, I contend that the Libra Foundation promote food clusters in the state of
Maine. First, I will examine the background of the Maine food industry, review the history of the
Libra Foundation, and consider food clusters in Maine and successful ventures across the globe. Then,
I will explore the critical issue of expanding food clusters in Maine to improve the agricultural
economy. Next, I will analyze these core issues by discussing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,
and threats facing Libra and offer recommendations for the next steps forward for the Libra
foundation. Finally, I will synthesize the overall problem facing the Libra Foundation and argue that
for Libra to expand the vast good they have done for the Maine economy, they must lead a Maine food
cluster movement whose main focus is to increase the production value and distribution of Maine
foods.

Boredom Is A State Of Mind
Boredom is a state of mind that hinders everyone at some point in life. I find that I encounter boredom
most during the summer when I am free from the constraints of school and social life. This state of
mind could lead someone to do some pretty outrageous things, whether that be very small or life
changing. Life could completely change because of one stupid mistake made when bored. When
looking back before the mistake, it seems a lot better than it does now. I have experienced an instance
similar to the one described. It was during the summer of 2016, and I was going through a state of
boredom. I had the mindset that anything is better than the feeling of boredom, even pain. There was a
week, during the summer in particular, when my thoughts and mindset really affected me. I felt like I
was wasting my life by not doing things with my time. I know this is a drastic response to a couple
weeks of boredom; however, I tried to spend time with my best friend, but she was busy working and
our plans always seemed to fall through. All I wanted was to be alone to sulk about my boring and
uneventful life. I found the perfect spot to do just that; it was the roof of my house. There was a
different atmosphere when I sat on the roof; I felt truly alone with my thoughts. I visited this spot
multiple times during the week when life seemed too heavy to hold.
Thursday was the day of the accident. I was frustrated with my life. I spent the majority of my time in
school, and when I finally

An Ethnography Of The Germanic Tribes
Tacitus Germania, written roughly at the end of the first century AD, serves as an ethnography of the
Germanic tribes and aims to provide concrete analysis of the fundamental aspects of barbaric society.
However, historians often note the significant difficulties with the work particularly when observing
the source of Tacitus information on the Germanic tribes. Additionally, stemming from the uncertain
origin of Tacitus knowledge of barbaric society surfaces various tensions naturally produced by the
structure of the work. Of specific interest lies the notion of Roman stereotypes of the Germanic tribes.
The Germania presents the reader with a type of rhetorical puzzle whereby a fine line exists between
Tacitus beliefs regarding the Germanic tribes, and his intent for writing the work. Although Tacitus
seems to ultimately sympathize with the morality and courage of the barbarians, the Germania, in an
effort to appeal to his Roman audience, subtly references Roman stereotypes regarding the need for
Roman expansion into the barbaric territory.
Edward James, a medieval era historian, describes the Roman perspective on barbarian culture. Early
in his work, entitled Europe s Barbarians, AD 200 600, he states the origin of the word barbarian in
Roman culture: Primarily it meant non Roman, someone who came from outside the Roman Empire;
but secondarily it meant barbarous , that is, someone who was not civilized. Thus, the word barbarian
is associated with two

BSKYB/ Sky news was the first of its kind and revolutionised the television industry, never before had
you been able to access current news stories from your television set 24 hours a day. However the
British population seemed uninterested in the early 1990 s and it wasn t until the mid to late 1990 s
that BSKYB started to make a profit. But in 1998 approximately 6.2million homes had access to Sky
News either through satellite or cable.
Up until the launch of BSKYB the television industry had been mainly dominated by the BBC. Rupert
Murdoch changed that and the television industry became and still is dominated by commercial
television in particular satellite and cable. We then had access to a huge number of channels for both
news and entertainment. This meant that people felt they had a greater choice in what they watched
For example sport, people who particularly enjoyed baseball were now able to access a baseball
match, and the viewer would feel as though they were taking part in a shared experience. This is
something the viewer would not be able to do with terrestrial television. In 1996 SKY decided to
introduce the first pay per view and charged their customers to watch the Bruno vs Tyson fight. People
paid for this because they felt that what they were receiving was an exclusive sports showing. Rupert

The Roles Prospect Park Plays for Brooklyn
Prospect Park is a 585 acre park located In Brooklyn, a borough in New York City. This borough in
particular was in great need for an open space for activities and relaxation, which is exactly what this
park provided. Parks are a very important piece of land to a town because it gives people the
opportunity to improve their physical health and parks also help strengthen communities because it
gives people more opportunities to interact with one another. Public parks are especially very
important to have in a big city like New York City because a park gives people a chance to get out of
the hustle and bustle, and relax and unwind. The two creators of Prospect Park named Frederick Law
Olmstead and Calvert Bowyer Vaux also designed and created a park in Manhattan called Central
Park. Central park is eight hundred forty acres of city owned land and is a piece of land that was much
needed in 1857 when it was officially opened. Vaux and Olmstead became two well known architects
by building Central Park that soon became a big success, but didn t equally benefit both the rich and
the poor. Calvert Vaux and Frederick Law Olmstead worked in a partnership to build Prospect Park.
Vaux and Olmstead had similar goals for Prospect Park as they did for Central Park, but they agreed
that their goals were better accomplished with Prospect Park because they were able to fix any
mistakes they had made in the creation of Central Park. The two of them were able to introduce a

Ancient Civilization
All ancient civilisations were very well developed. Discuss.
It is evident that most aspects of life in ancient civilisations were well developed. Many aspects of
society in Ancient Greece were very advanced. Ancient Egypt was a very advanced civilisation in
many different parts of life. Ancient Chinese culture, entertainment and architecture were all well
developed, as well as numerous other things.
Many aspects of Ancient Greek society were well developed. Ancient Greek religion was very
advanced, with many gods and goddesses. All the gods and goddesses represented, or were god of
something, for example, Poseidon was god of the sea, storms, earthquakes and horses. They had many
myths and legends about gods with morals to teach lessons and some to explain things, and some are
still told. To the Greeks, worshiping the gods was a part of daily life. Huge temples and structures
were built to honour the gods, which remain today. Architecture in ancient Greece was very advanced,
with many incredibly well built and designed buildings and sculptures, with some remaining to his
day. An aspect of Ancient Greek architecture that has continued to be used today is columns. Columns
were used in many structures, providing strength and stability. An example of a building from ancient
Greece that used columns is the Parthenon, a temple dedicated to the goddess Athena, which still
stands today. The ancient Greeks were the first known civilization to have a democracy, this shows

left in shambles, the Tiananmen Square Massacre was an unforgettable and shocking event in Chinese
history. Its significance, however, lies not in the number of casualties but in the nobility of its
aspirations and the power of its legacy. The Chinese Communist Party claimed that the nation, of long
history and tradition, was better off following its own path of political dictatorship rather than shifting
towards Western influences such as constitutional democracy. However, through the Tiananmen

During Mao s time, he strongly stressed his principles of the Great Leap Forward and the Cultural
Revolution . However, due to these philosophies, China s economic and social foundations crumbled

Mao passed away, Deng Xiaoping emerged as Mao s successor. He launched comprehensive

production increased by leaps and bounds and poverty was reduced dramatically. However, there was

Essay on Great Britain Rise as the Global Leader of the...
When examining the bloody and often tumultuous history of Great Britain prior to their ascent to
power, one would not have predicted that they would become the global leader of the 18th century.
Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman
Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the
development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks.
While much of continental Europe was seeking to strengthen their absolute monarchies and
centralized style of governing, in the 17th and 18th centuries Great Britain was making significant
political changes that reflected the ideals of the Age of Enlightenment. ... Show more content on

Under the Bill of Rights, Parliament would have a say over the direction the monarchy was taking the
country, that the royal power to suspend and eliminate laws was abolished, that the monarchs were
prohibited to levy taxes and the monarchy could not maintain a standing army in peacetime without
first going through Parliament (Glorious Revolution) . The addition of the Bill of Rights to England s
constitution pushed them forward into a political system not dominated by the interests and whims of
the monarchy. William and Mary not only changed the religious course of Great Britain and the idea
of divine right but also allowed the ideas of personal liberties and social welfare, encouraged by the
Enlightenment, to gain momentum. In addition, William and Mary moved forward with their
government by implementing new, modern economic policies which placed more focus on the
merchants of the time. While William and Mary were busy ruling the British empire, John Locke was
busy producing new ideas on how government should treat its people and vice versa. Chiefly
influenced by the political mishap that led to the Glorious Revolution, Locke published his
revolutionary work Two Treatises. In this essay, Locke argued that the reason for the whole existence
of governmental authority is to protect the civil liberties and freedoms of the governed. Locke s named

We don t usually think of Palm Sunday as a dangerous day. But it was for Jesus. And it is for us.
For Jesus, the Palm Sunday peril came both from without and from within. The external threat was
obvious.
Jesus had decided to make a public announcement of his true identity. For some time his disciples had
believed him to be the fulfillment of God s promise to send a Savior. But, until this moment, according
to Mark, Jesus had forbidden them to speak of him as Messiah. Now, it was time to go public.
Zechariah had prophesied that the Messiah would arrive riding on a donkey. And that, quite
intentionally, is how Jesus entered Jerusalem.
This messianic signal was especially dangerous because it coincided with the feast of

We are surrounded by organizations and we participate in them as members, employees, customers,
and clients. Most of our life is spent in organization, and they supply the goods and services on which
we depend to live. Organizations on the other hand depend on people, and without people, they would
disappear. Factors Contributing to the Growing Importance of HRM a. Accommodation to workers
needs Workers are demanding that organizations accommodate their personal needs by instituting such
programs as flexible work schedules, parental leave, child care and elder care assistance, and job
sharing. The human resource department plays a central role in establishing and implementing policies
designed to reduce the friction between organizational demands and family responsibilities. b.
Increased complexity of the Manager s job Management has become an increasingly complex and
demanding job for many reasons, including foreign competition, new technology, expanding scientific
information, and rapid change. Therefore, organizations frequently ask human resource managers for
assistance in making strategic business decisions and in matching the distinctive competencies of the
firm s human resources to the mission of the organization. Executives need assistance from the human
resource department in matters of recruitment, performance evaluation, compensation, and discipline.
c. Legislation and litigation The enactment of state laws has contributed enormously

Weary Blues By Langston Hughes
Poetry is a form of literature that is expressive and can sometimes communicate a message more
effectively than prose. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets
relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to a
person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language that
effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African American
experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes effectively
communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American experience. The
poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to ... Show more content on

The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray
his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes
message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with
melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can
understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification
clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano
which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find
out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the
poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and
unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time
due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a
man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock
shows that the man s sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even
alive. In line 30 the man sings,

The Dangers Of Self Driving
Have you ever seen someone while driving, doing something dangerous? Such as texting, talking on
the phone, eating, and even doing their makeup. Doing such acts can cause catastrophic results. In
drivers Ed, I learned that if you look away from the road for just two seconds, you can end up being
on your way to the hospital. With self driving technology, many shattering wrecks could have been
prevented. Sure, self driving technology may malfunction or even be hacked, but there are tons of
computerized machines like traffic lights, robots in factories, phones and there is hardly any news
about them being hacked. With technology advancing, there are people who cannot resist the
notification sounds that their phone makes while driving. Human beings are hasty and do their
makeup while driving or getting their breakfast or lunch in. With such acts, driverless cars are
beneficial because of distractibility, safety, and rewards. To begin with, smartphones have become like
a drug to people, some cannot live without it and have to have it with them at all times. Firstly, human
distractions while driving puts everyone around in danger. For example, Jake Pelini author of Unsafe
at any Speed shares, that if the distractions were eliminated 4 million of the 11 million crashes that
happen annually could have been eradicated (Pelini). Thus, removing all distractions while driving
could save millions of lives. Secondly, multitasking is not as easy as it looks. For instance, Jake Pelini

Pratt s Architectural Style
The different architectural styles and use of public space throughout Pratt Institute expresses both the
function of the university and its relation to Clinton Hill and to changes occurring in New York City.
Pratt s original campus consisted of three brick Romanesque Revival styled buildings that were built
adjacent to one another, the Main Building, the East Hall Building, and the Student Union, and Pratt
Institute Library, which along with the Rose Garden, were available for public usage. Characterized by
its extravagant masonry, massive appearance, rounded arch windows, and arcaded entrances, the Main
Building was designed after the Romanesque Revival Style to reflect the wealth and sophistication of
the newly rich, like Charles Pratt, the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
, Like the Main Building, the Student Union and East Hall buildings were both designed after the
Romanesque Revival style in order to show the wealth of Charles Pratt and to help differentiate the
campus from the surrounding Clinton Hill neighborhood. Because Pratt Institute s privately owned,
steam powered electrical generating plant is in the East Hall building, the building has a large brick
smokestack, or chimney, for the release of steam. In contrast to Romanesque Revival style of the
Main, East Hall, and Student Union buildings, the Pratt Institute Library was designed after the
Renaissance Revival style in order to portray its function as a public library accessible to both students
and the local residents. Like how Pratt Institute was originally found to provide the working class and
immigrants the opportunity to attend college and teach them skills applicable to New York City s
changing economy, the Pratt Institute Library was built to be functionally accessible to everyone,
regardless of education or socioeconomic

Compare The Structure Of Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Cells
Vicki Millard
Unit 10193 Introduction to Cell Biology
1. Compare the structures of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells
There are two different types of cells; prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Both cells have differences,
including the shape and size of the cell. Prokaryote cells are found in bacteria such as E coli,
Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, whilst eukaryote cells are found in plants, animals and fungi.
Eukaryotic cells have many components which lead to the cell having a much more complex structure
and are larger in size, measuring between 10 and 100 micrometres in diameter. Prokaryotic cells, on
the other hand, are much smaller, measuring between 0.2 and 2 micrometres and having a much
simpler structure. The two cells share similarities such as; containing DNA, ribosomes and
cytoplasms. According to Bassett, The ribosomes are told, what kind of protein to make and when to
make it via the direction of the DNA. [Bassett. Dawsonera.com. P. 83. 2005.] DNA in a prokaryotic
cell is described to be a single circular chromosome, whereas the eukaryotic cell has multiple linear
chromosomes. However, the main comparison between the two cells is that the eukaryotic cell
contains a nucleus, whereas the prokaryotic cell lacks a nucleus.

A Hunger Artist Comparison Essay
A Hunger Artist, by Franz Kafka, and the graphic novel representation of A Hunger Artist, by R.
Crumb and David Zane Mairowitz are hugely different takes on the same story. In Kafka s original,
the reader is observing The hunger artist s art, which is fasting. In comparison, Crumb and Mairowitz
version offers a version of the story in a way that the reader may not have been able to decipher in the
original. Franz Kafka s original is told with an omniscient third person narrator. The all knowing
narrator can weave in and out of different characters thoughts. Also, this distinct narration is beneficial
to tragedy of the story because even though the narrator seems to know everything about the story, not
everything is revealed to the audience, for example, why hunger artists became unpopular. The
manager in the original story adds to the tragedy of the artist s situation as he is portrayed utilizing the
hunger artist s talent. The hunger artist s manager exhausts everything he can into making the artist s
performance a grand spectacle. Unfortunately in doing so, he destroys the artist s desire to become the
most celebrated hunger artist ever. Without the theatrical acts of the manager, the hunger artist s ...

Unexpectedly the hunger artist s audience deserts him and he doesn t react to that neglect very well.
Therefore, the hunger artist signs himself into the circus in response to the disregard. Despite this
change in atmosphere, people only watch him because he is near the animals, thus he remains
neglected. Finally, an audience member inquires about whether or not he is still fasting; then the
hunger artist asks for forgiveness and begs that people not admire his fasting. He admits that he
simply could never find food that he liked. The hunger artist s confession, prompted by neglect from
his audience, sealed his fate and he died

UNICEF In The 1950 s
Early 1950s, UNICEF s funds received contributions from 47 governments, a significant increase
from 4 years ago when it first started. UNICEF launched the program Trick or Treat for UNICEF,
mobilizing children to help children. The program is continuing until the present. The only difference
between them is many kids lived in other countries where their low living condition due to war,
poverty, natural disasters make it hard for them to survive. The kids in those countries cannot afford
having Halloween, nor candy what they need and want. American kids go door to door, calling out
Trick or treat for UNICEF, and collecting donations for children in the other countries. The programs
have raised more than $175 million. As UNICEF had proved its significance in responding to the
children s needs, the UN recognized the organization s power in altering children s lives. It was
important that no child should be left out. There were children ... Show more content on

In fact, the mission of assisting children s lives would never end. The work of UNICEF should go on.
Therefore, UNICEF went through a process of adjustment to become more effective and accessible.
The year 1953 marked a turning point of UNICEF when the organization changed its name and focus.
Starting as a temporary relief programme, UNICEF transitioned into a permanent part of the UN.
Even though it was still called UNICEF, international and emergency were dropped, the official name
was shortened to United Nations Children s Fund, displaying its program expansion and new purpose.
The organization evolved from a short term project, which was reported to be one of the very generous
activities that have come out of the tragedy of war, to one of the largest international non profit
organizations (Ferguson, 1972, p. 226). UNICEF became a symbol of third world countries children

They are not only intrigued by the beauty of the buildings but also by their complex development. Greeks tradition of building structure came from the ideas of Philosophers such as Thales,Pythagoras, and Archimedes, who questioned their being and challenged their world to find meaning to certain practical applications. From their inquisitions, the Greek Philosophers developed basic but complex strategies that served the purpose of a foundation to many other technical advancements. If there is a heavy weight on one side then it should be equalized on the other side in order to make it move. Architectures used this law of mechanics to make their work easier as they would be able to move boulders that were in the way of their duty. Greek Philosophers have made drastic changes from a basic lifestyle to one of questioning. Their persistence to find meaning behind basic concepts has lead to great technological advancements that are still used in today s world. The law of nature by Thales proved that there is a system to the world and there is more to what is seen. Pythagoras uses that strategy of observation to create a rule for sound and the way it travels. Archimedes used both theories to point out the rule of mechanics and the way things move. I thought the Judge and everyone on the team was just out to get me. I didn t know who I was because I built my life on lies. I never aspired to anything great. Being in Drug Court this long has shown me that the Judge and the Drug Court team really do care about each and every one of us personally. I can see that the Drug Court team cares and always has time for me no matter what, to give me so much encouragement. It wasn t until I was in Drug Court that my life changed and I believe that I was headed for a prison sentence which that didn t matter to me at the time. Drug Court showed that they believe in us, that we are okay, and they really do care about us to take the time to help us. It has taught me to be more of a responsible person. Going to jail was honestly one of the best things that ever happened to me and I needed to be in there. I no longer wanted to be everyone s burden and the family disappointment. I have realized what all I have put my mom through and I am sorry for all the wrong I ve done, the sleepless nights, the broken promises, and the stealing of money. I m sorry for the embarrassment I ve caused. I m sorry for all of the pain, arguments and stress. I want my mom understand that I never intended to hurt her. I have learned a lot about myself that I never knew existed, because the person I used to be is a totally different person than I am today. Me wanting to change is why I changed and I changed everything. If people didn t share the same interest as me or I sensed any type of negativity that could rub off on me, I disassociated myself with those people. If you decide to change you have to change everything, not just the areas that are convenient for you. No one can force you to do it and some do it cause they are told to but when they are done with their program, they end up going right back to where they started off. • 7. An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley is full of lies and... J.B. Priestley sets the play in a lavish and happy environment. Without Priestley even telling the audience that the play is set pre war it is obvious because of all the available luxuries and fineries such as champagne glasses and dessert plates . The war caused great shortages in goods and food, which led to rationing. No one in 1945 (when the play was written) would have been able to create a luxuriant celebratory dinner. This cunning use of setting deliberately reminds the audience of some of the luxuries lost because of the war. The play, An Inspector Calls , uses moralistic irony to reflect on achievements made today. This is surely what is featured in An Inspector Calls. The 1912 society was a wicked one with evidence of wrong doing, sinfulness, spite, vileness (wickedness), a society in which there was no equality, democracy, or benefits. Without these important factors, a society cannot function, and wickedness is decreed in society. Weakness and wickedness is distributed throughout the play on an individual basis, mostly due to the hypocrisy and aristocracy of society. Mr Birling is delineated as a respectable and successful business man, with a wealthy family. Although by looking beyond the text we can determine that Mr Birling was in fact a selfish, greedy despot. This is not entirely Mr Birling s fault; it is more to do with the format of society. Mr Birling was paying Eva twenty two an six (a subsistent amount of money). Eva requested twenty five shillings . Mr Birling refused to pay and after Eva Smith stood up for what she believed in, she was sacked. The fact that Mr Birling acted, and fired Eva shows he was harsh in his actions. Also the fact that no one found anything wrong with Mr Birling s action, which is an example of wrong doing defines wickedness/weakness in society. Sheila Birling s sub sequential actions also encouraged Eva Smith to commit suicide. Sheila was the one who got Eva Smith fired from Milwards shop. When Sheila was trying on the dress, Eva laughed. The three themes I am going to be talking about are survival, family, and war. There are many themes in this novel, but I believe these are the three most important ones. I will explain each theme, give quotes from the book showing the theme and then explain how they are significant and show the theme. In A Long Way Gone, A big part of the story is Ishmael explaining what he and his friends had to do to stay alive through the civil war. This is showing the theme, survival. The Bronze And Iron Age Essay Classics Essay Question: 1 What Can Homer tell us about the Bronze and Iron Age The Bronze and Iron Ages were 2 of the main periods in Greek History and Homer can tell us a lot about them. The Bronze Age was all about mixing copper with tin or arsenic to bronze hence it is called the Bronze Age. The Iron Age was when the whole of the east Mediterranean was in crisis. In central Anatolia, the collapse of the Hitties opened the gates to invaders who overran the country. Firstly, let s talk about Homer a lot of the works that he wrote were set in the Bronze Age and Iron Age. Homer is the first known European poet and of such importance to the Greeks. Homer became the basis for Greek education and is still widely read in high schools and universities today. He is the best primary source for knowing what the Greeks were thinking in the eighth century B.C. as they fought each other and sailed across dangerous seas to found new city states in alien lands. Stress, including work related stress, can be a significant cause of illness and is known to be linked with high levels of sickness absence, staff turnover and other issues such as more errors. There is a difference between pressure and stress. Pressure can be positive and a motivating factor, and is often essential in a job. It can help us achieve our goals and perform better. Stress occurs when this pressure becomes excessive. A person experiences stress when they perceive that the demands of their work are greater than their ability to cope. Coping means balancing the demands and pressures placed on you (i.e. the job requirements) with your skills and knowledge (i.e. your capabilities). For example, if you give a member of your team a tight deadline on a project they feel they have neither the skills nor ability to do well, they may begin to feel undue pressure which could result in work related stress. Stress can also result from having too few demands, as people will become bored, feel undervalued and lack recognition. If they feel they have little or no say over the work they do or how they do it, this may cause them stress. Stress affects people in different ways and what one person finds stressful can be normal to another. With each new situation a person will decide what ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 16. Symbolism In Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar The postwar 1950s launched the modernist period in English Literature, which suggested a more pessimistic perception of society through societal nonconformity, decay, and alienation. Sylvia Plath s The Bell Jar, a parallel to her life, expresses Esther Greenwood s character in pursuit of morality in the reality she faces in the modern society. Esther discovers that the society is not as pure as it seems and has underlying truths behind its deceptive appearance. To emphasize her realization, she mentions the color white two hundred fourteen times in the novel. Although the color white often symbolizes purity, goodness, and innocence, Esther gives white a negative connotation in the novel. Esther depicts the reality of the society as fabricated through the recurring motif of the color white, which symbolizes hopelessness and a stigma in the optimistic society. Esther s classification of the color white as a stain in the purity of the society is visible through her dissolved hope in Buddy Willard. She completely trusts Buddy Willard and imagines a prospective marriage with him when she perceives him as an honest and truthful individual. Esther s stay in New York alters her assessment of society since she is unable to see through reality, having been raised in a restricted environment. Her perspective changes when she realizes the truth behind his facade of being pure. Esther describes Buddy Willard by the color white: And he looked so proud of having thought of this that I ... He tells his story, focusing on his childhood in New York City. His white mother also tells her story, where she was raised a Jew. She married a black man and had eight children, including James. Before James was even born, her husband died. She remarried to another black man and had four more children, all black. While growing, James and his siblings look for answers about their odd lives in their mother. One of their common questions is about skin color. After church one day, James asks his mother about the color of God. What color is God s spirit It doesn t have a color, she said. God is the color ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... She tells the children children to focus on their education and God, not the color of their skin. To the her, the only person whose opinion matters is God. If God loves both whites and blacks, why should it matter what color one s skin is? If this view was shared by all Americans, life for blacks would have been much easier. This is why Ruth McBride sees no problem with marrying a black man. He is just another human being, whom she loved. When her first husband died, leaving her with eight children, she remarried quickly. Like the first, he was black, and she was able to look past the color of his skin and see his humanity. She, like God, sees past his skin and looks within. He also dies, but not before giving Ruth four more children, making a total of twelve children, all with different skin color than Ruth. If all Americans, both then and now, were able to look past the outside, whether it be race, sex, sexual orientation, or religion, America would be a better place to live. The Maine Food Cluster Project Sam Alexander ENGN 9: Final Paper December 7, 2016 THE MAINE FOOD CLUSTER PROJECT Abstract The Libra Foundation should work to expand food clusters in Maine to bolster a fragmented Maine agricultural industry. Specifically, Libra should focus their support on processing and distribution channels that will expand the product market and initial value. In this report, I will explore various possible actions of the Libra Foundation and explain why, given the background of the Maine food industry and Libra s attributes, the direction I have recommended is the optimal next step. Overview In this paper, I contend that the Libra Foundation promote food clusters in the state of Maine. First, I will examine the background of the Maine food industry, review the history of the Libra Foundation, and consider food clusters in Maine and successful ventures across the globe. Then, I will explore the critical issue of expanding food clusters in Maine to improve the agricultural economy. Next, I will analyze these core issues by discussing strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats facing Libra and offer recommendations for the next steps forward for the Libra foundation. Finally, I will synthesize the overall problem facing the Libra Foundation and argue that for Libra to expand the vast good they have done for the Maine economy, they must lead a Maine food cluster movement whose main focus is to increase the production value and distribution of Maine foods. I find that I encounter boredom most during the summer when I am free from the constraints of school and social life. This state of mind could lead someone to do some pretty outrageous things, whether that be very small or life changing. Life could completely change because of one stupid mistake made when bored. When looking back before the mistake, it seems a lot better than it does now. I have experienced an instance similar to the one described. It was during the summer of 2016, and I was going through a state of boredom. I had the mindset that anything is better than the feeling of boredom, even pain. There was a week, during the summer in particular, when my thoughts and mindset really affected me. I felt like I was wasting my life by not doing things with my time. I know this is a drastic response to a couple weeks of boredom; however, I tried to spend time with my best friend, but she was busy working and our plans always seemed to fall through. All I wanted was to be alone to sulk about my boring and uneventful life. I found the perfect spot to do just that; it was the roof of my house. There was a different atmosphere when I sat on the roof; I felt truly alone with my thoughts. I visited this spot multiple times during the week when life seemed too heavy to hold. • 28. An Ethnography Of The Germanic Tribes Tacitus Germania, written roughly at the end of the first century AD, serves as an ethnography of the Germanic tribes and aims to provide concrete analysis of the fundamental aspects of barbaric society. However, historians often note the significant difficulties with the work particularly when observing the source of Tacitus information on the Germanic tribes. Additionally, stemming from the uncertain origin of Tacitus knowledge of barbaric society surfaces various tensions naturally produced by the structure of the work. Of specific interest lies the notion of Roman stereotypes of the Germanic tribes. The Germania presents the reader with a type of rhetorical puzzle whereby a fine line exists between Tacitus beliefs regarding the Germanic tribes, and his intent for writing the work. Although Tacitus seems to ultimately sympathize with the morality and courage of the barbarians, the Germania, in an effort to appeal to his Roman audience, subtly references Roman stereotypes regarding the need for Roman expansion into the barbaric territory. Edward James, a medieval era historian, describes the Roman perspective on barbarian culture. Early in his work, entitled Europe s Barbarians, AD 200 600, he states the origin of the word barbarian in Roman culture: Primarily it meant non Roman, someone who came from outside the Roman Empire; but secondarily it meant barbarous , that is, someone who was not civilized. Prior to the Treaty of Westphalia, which ended the Thirty Years War, the Spanish and the Holy Roman Empire held much of the power in Europe. Only with the suppression of Catholicism and the development of national sovereignty did Great Britain have the opportunity to rise through the ranks. It can be filled with literary elements and vivid language that can help poets relay their message to the readers. What is fascinating about poetry, is that each poem can relate to a person in multiple ways. In the poems Harlem and Weary Blues Langston Hughes uses language that effectively communicates the overall themes of both poems and relates to the African American experience at the time. The literary elements used in Harlem help Langston Hughes effectively communicate the overall theme of dreams and its relation to the African American experience. The poem Harlem is about a deferred dream and what happens to ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The poem Weary Blues is about a black man singing the blues and how he uses the music to portray his life. The usage of similes, metaphors, and personification enhance the poem and allows for Hughes message to effectively be conveyed. In line 10 Hughes writes, He made the poor piano moan with melody. The usage of personification in this line gives the piano human characteristics and readers can understand that the music the African American is playing is melancholy. The dramatic personification clearly sets the mood of the poem. Line 10 is a metaphor as well, describing the piano as a poor piano which helps create an image for the reader. From the poem and its expressive language, readers find out that the man is singing the blues, which is known to be a sad and depressing genre. Throughout the poem, the black man is singing about his life and how it s filled with loneliness, troubles, and unhappiness. This was probably a common feeling throughout many African Americans at the time due to social restrictions and their suppressed lives. In line 35 Hughes writes, He slept like a rock or a man that s dead. The powerful simile here ends the poem in an effective way. He slept like a rock shows that the man s sleep was so deep and or man that s dead shows that it was as if he weren t even alive. In line 30 the man sings, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 43. The Dangers Of Self Driving Have you ever seen someone while driving, doing something dangerous? Such as texting, talking on the phone, eating, and even doing their makeup. Doing such acts can cause catastrophic results. In drivers Ed, I learned that if you look away from the road for just two seconds, you can end up being on your way to the hospital. With self driving technology, many shattering wrecks could have been prevented. Sure, self driving technology may malfunction or even be hacked, but there are tons of computerized machines like traffic lights, robots in factories, phones and there is hardly any news about them being hacked. With technology advancing, there are people who cannot resist the notification sounds that their phone makes while driving. Human beings are hasty and do their makeup while driving or getting their breakfast or lunch in. With such acts, driverless cars are beneficial because of distractibility, safety, and rewards. To begin with, smartphones have become like a drug to people, some cannot live without it and have to have it with them at all times. Firstly, human distractions while driving puts everyone around in danger. For example, Jake Pelini author of Unsafe at any Speed shares, that if the distractions were eliminated 4 million of the 11 million crashes that happen annually could have been eradicated (Pelini). Thus, removing all distractions while driving could save millions of lives. Secondly, multitasking is not as easy as it looks. For instance, Jake Pelini ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 44. Pratt s Architectural Style The different architectural styles and use of public space throughout Pratt Institute expresses both the function of the university and its relation to Clinton Hill and to changes occurring in New York City. Pratt s original campus consisted of three brick Romanesque Revival styled buildings that were built adjacent to one another, the Main Building, the East Hall Building, and the Student Union, and Pratt Institute Library, which along with the Rose Garden, were available for public usage. Characterized by its extravagant masonry, massive appearance, rounded arch windows, and arcaded entrances, the Main Building was designed after the Romanesque Revival Style to reflect the wealth and sophistication of the newly rich, like Charles Pratt, the ... Because Pratt Institute s privately owned, steam powered electrical generating plant is in the East Hall building, the building has a large brick smokestack, or chimney, for the release of steam. In contrast to Romanesque Revival style of the Main, East Hall, and Student Union buildings, the Pratt Institute Library was designed after the Renaissance Revival style in order to portray its function as a public library accessible to both students and the local residents. • 45. Compare The Structure Of Prokaryotic And Eukaryotic Cells Vicki Millard Unit 10193 Introduction to Cell Biology 1. Compare the structures of Prokaryotic and Eukaryotic cells There are two different types of cells; prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Both cells have differences, including the shape and size of the cell. Prokaryote cells are found in bacteria such as E coli, Streptococcus and Staphylococcus, whilst eukaryote cells are found in plants, animals and fungi. Eukaryotic cells have many components which lead to the cell having a much more complex structure and are larger in size, measuring between 10 and 100 micrometres in diameter. Prokaryotic cells, on the other hand, are much smaller, measuring between 0.2 and 2 micrometres and having a much simpler structure. The two cells share similarities such as; containing DNA, ribosomes and cytoplasms. According to Bassett, The ribosomes are told, what kind of protein to make and when to make it via the direction of the DNA. [Bassett. Dawsonera.com. P. 83. 2005.] DNA in a prokaryotic cell is described to be a single circular chromosome, whereas the eukaryotic cell has multiple linear chromosomes. However, the main comparison between the two cells is that the eukaryotic cell contains a nucleus, whereas the prokaryotic cell lacks a nucleus. • 46. A Hunger Artist Comparison Essay A Hunger Artist, by Franz Kafka, and the graphic novel representation of A Hunger Artist, by R. Crumb and David Zane Mairowitz are hugely different takes on the same story. In Kafka s original, the reader is observing The hunger artist s art, which is fasting. In comparison, Crumb and Mairowitz version offers a version of the story in a way that the reader may not have been able to decipher in the original. Franz Kafka s original is told with an omniscient third person narrator. The all knowing narrator can weave in and out of different characters thoughts. Also, this distinct narration is beneficial to tragedy of the story because even though the narrator seems to know everything about the story, not everything is revealed to the audience, for example, why hunger artists became unpopular. The manager in the original story adds to the tragedy of the artist s situation as he is portrayed utilizing the hunger artist s talent. The hunger artist s manager exhausts everything he can into making the artist s performance a grand spectacle. Unfortunately in doing so, he destroys the artist s desire to become the most celebrated hunger artist ever. Without the theatrical acts of the manager, the hunger artist s ... UNICEF launched the program Trick or Treat for UNICEF, mobilizing children to help children. The program is continuing until the present. American kids go door to door, calling out Trick or treat for UNICEF, and collecting donations for children in the other countries. The programs have raised more than $175 million.
