Intro to Art – Principles of Art Journal Assignment
Due:

Create a three-page fold-out journal
entry for the Principles of Art.

Create a border around all three pages
and include the title: Principles of Art.

Use Columns to layout your pages. (One
column for each of the 7 principles)

Supplies: ArtTalk book, Journal;
markers; tissue paper; glue; pencil & erasers; sharpies; and whatever other material you can think
of.

What to do?
In addition to a definition for each principle, make sure to include the following:

1. Balance
       Illustrate Radial, Symmetrical, and Asymmetrical Balance. Draw, use cut paper, or
       examples of each from magazines.

2. Emphasis
     Draw the word Emphasis in a graphic way to fill the column. Emphasize one letter using
     both size and color/contrast.

3. Variety
      Illustrate a variety of shapes, lines, colors and sizes.

4. Rhythm
      Create a sense of music visually. Choose one type of rhythm to organize your column
      and label it.

5. Unity
       Choose 1 object and draw it in your column in three different
ways. Create unity in the
       column through the use of color.

6. Movement
      Create visual movement using shape and line in the column.

7. Proportion
       Draw a contour line drawing of an everyday object and
exaggerate the proportion of one part of the object. Outline in sharpie
and add color with watercolor, tissue paper, or markers.
