Alberta, Canad A Short Story
It s December 17, 2002 ,5:46pm in Alberta, Canada there s a bitter burning smell in the air as I return
home to my mother. The long drive gives me time to think about the argument we had this morning
and I m full of regret of all the hurtful things we said. All because I didn t want to discuss my father s
passing 4 years ago. As I approach our dreadfully long driveway, I see smoke black as night in the
distance, them red and blue flashing lights with police tape blocking off our red colonial home. I rush
out of my car leaving my car on and begin to feel numb. I fall to the ground as an officer tries to catch
me, but misses and I hit the gray gravel in my driveway. With the assistance of the officer closest to be

Jim rushed over and lifted the debris and I picked up the girl and rushed her out, she tells me her name
is Rose and she was looking for her mother and wondered what to do, but I had already passed her to

put out the few other buildings and we had accomplished the mission at hand. Afterwards Jim and I
went back to Banff and had breakfast after staying up all night looking at a hot red light. I thanked Jim
for going inside the building and helping me save the girl inside, JIm then explained to me that he
didn t just go inside to get the job done, but to comfort me when he knew I didn t have a lot of
experience with such a big fire. This helped me to realize that my teammates had my back. Not only
did this help me to overcome the fear that being a firefighter, but it helped with my mother s passing

Santa Sabina Research Paper
The principal architectural elements of this design are the three aisled basilica with no transepts. The
basilica is an axially planned church with a long nave, side aisles, and an apse for the altar. Santa
Sabina also has a long, tall, broad nave, following an axial plan. The spolia are the tall slender
columns. Santa Sabina has windows made not of glass, but of selenite, a type of transparent and
colorless gypsum. Santa Sabina also has a flat wooden roof, coffered ceiling, and thin walls
supporting a light roof. As an early Christian basilica, Santa Sabina has thin walls supporting wooden
roofs with coffered ceilings. Lastly, Santa Sabina has a bare exterior with a sensitively decorated
interior, which represents the Christian whose exterior may not be very attractive, but whose interior
soul is gorgeous. Santa Sabina is made from brick and stone. ... Show more content on

Early Christian art has several features which are adapted from Roman elements. Santa Sabina
employed several Roman columns from Pagan temples. This type of reuse of architectural or
sculptural elements is known as spolia. Early Christian churches also came in two ways, both of which
were inspired by Roman architecture. Santa Sabina is an example of the more numerous axially
planned building, which has a long nave focusing on an apse. Early Christian basilicas, just like in
Santa Sabina, had thin walls supporting wooden roofs with coffered ceilings. Another example of an
element of the Christian design which was adapted from non Christian sources are the spolia, or tall
slender columns. Spolia is the reuse of architectural or sculptural places in buildings generally
different from their original contexts. These were taken from the Temple of Juno in Rome and erected
on the site of Santa Sabina. This serves as a statement of the triumph of Christianity over

Where To Move
At last! The decision to move has finally been made and after a long time of discussing where to move
to, my family and I have decided to move to California. We have been consulting about where to
move to for a while now but all the places that were talked about had been vetoed, so the subject was
always dropped and we continued on live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. After a long winter, my
mother had come into contact with one of her old friends who was living in California. At first she had
only jokingly mentioned the idea of moving with her friend. But soon the conversation became serious
and we began to actually plan everything out. My mother was surprised at the amount of enthusiasm

Analysis Of David Hume s An Inquiry Concerning Human...
In the very last paragraph of An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume states, When we
run over libraries, persuaded of these principles, what havoc must we make? If we take in our hand
any volume; of divinity or school metaphysics, for instance; let us ask, Does it contain any abstract
reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning concerning
matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain nothing but sophistry
and illusion. (1) In other words, what Hume is expressing to us is that unless we can provide empirical
evidence to validate our arguments, we are not actually making a statement of substance, and thus
should disregard that idea. It is a waste of time to explore outside the limits of reason relations of ideas
and matters of fact, because those questions ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

The Human Of Human Cloning
1. INTRODUCTION
Human cloning is the creation of a genetically identical copy of a human. However, this term not only
refers to the entire artificial human, but also the reproduction of human cells and tissues. There are
two types of theoretical human cloning: reproductive cloning which would involve making an entire
cloned human and the other, therapeutic cloning, which would involve cloning cells from a human for
use in medicine and transplants by somatic cell nuclear transfer or pluripotent stem cell induction. In
reproductive cloning the entire genetic code is reproduced from a single body cell of an adult
individual. The most common cloning technique is somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). The
procedure is as follows:
The ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
iPSCs are typically derived by introducing products of specific sets of pluripotency associated genes,
or reprogramming factors , into a given cell type.
2. ISSUES
Although the human cloning seems fairly beneficial and useful for human welfare, the possibility of
human cloning has raised controversies. Concerning reproductive cloning, advocates believe that
parents who cannot otherwise procreate should have access to the technology. Some opponents have
concerns that technology is not yet developed enough to be safe while others emphasize that
reproductive cloning could be prone to abuse (leading to the generation of humans whose organs and
tissues would be harvested), and have concerns about how cloned individuals could integrate with
families and with society at large. With regards to therapeutic cloning, the problem is that many
attempts are often required to create a viable egg. The stability of the egg with the infused somatic
nucleus is poor and it can require hundreds of attempts before success is attained. Therapeutic cloning
does result in the destruction of an embryo after stem cells are extracted and this destruction has
stirred controversy over the morality of the procedure. Some argue that the pros outweigh the cons
with regards to treating disease and support development of therapeutic cloning in order to generate
tissues and whole

The Nature Of Hofstede s Cultural Framework And Comparing...
Essay Introduction This essay will first discuss the nature of Hofstede s cultural framework and
compare it with other culture frameworks. In the second part my personal score for each of the
Hofstede s cultural dimensions will be presented, followed by discussion on how my individual scores
relate to the benchmarks suggested by Hofstede for my cultural background. The third section will
address the issue of cross cultural management and give suggestion to an Australian friend who is
going to work as a manager in Shanghai. Discussion of cultural frameworks During the year from
1967 to 1973, Hofstede (1983) conducted surveys on more than 117,000 IBM employees in 40
different countries. He analysed the survey data and identified four cultural dimensions as power
distance , uncertainty avoidance , individualism , and masculinity (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006).
Bond (1988) added the fifth dimension long term orientation in 1991. Power distance (PID) values the
acceptance of different status and unequal distribution of power (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006).
Uncertainty avoidance (UAI) measures how members of a society accept, defend against or minimize
future uncertainties (Harvey 1997). Individualism (IDV) is the extent to which a society evaluates the
role of the individual as opposed to that of the group (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006). Masculinity
(MAS) refers to how a society emphasizes the achievements and success (Drogendijk and Slangen
2006). Long term orientation

Cause and Effect Essay Factory Farms Cause Sickness and Pollution
There is little doubt that animals raised on small scale diverse farms are apt to be healthier. When
allowed to range freely, particularly in organically maintained yards and pastures, they receive more
exercise, their diet is more varied and they are exposed to commensal bacteria that help exclude, and
build resistance to, harmful pathogens. Some organic practitioners also argue that free ranging animals
actively seek out plants with medicinal properties that can build their resistance to illness,

The newest class of antibiotics, fluoroquinolones viewed as the last line of defence for some human
infections are already proving ineffective against some bacteria strains. An epidemiologist for the US

³there is no controversy about where antibiotic resistance in food borne pathogens comes from²: the
heavy use of antibiotics is to blame.
The huge amounts of manure that the industrial livestock farms produce also represent a human health
risk. In the Cape Fear region of
North Carolina, for example, factory hog farms produce ten million metric tonnes of waste annually,
equal to that produced by forty million people.
When heavy rains hit in 1999, numerous lagoons containing the manure burst.
In one case, two million gallons of hog waste spilled when a lagoon ruptured at a farm that raises hogs
for a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, the largest pork producer in the United States. Such manure
spills were one reason the storm left 400,000 wells in North Carolina contaminated. Health officials
expressed concern that an outbreak of gastrointestinal and other diseases, such as pathogenic E. coli,

Essay On The Desert Storm
The Desert Storm or as some know, the Persian Gulf War, took place in August of 1990. Saddam
Hussein, the leader of Iraq was the main person involved in the start of the war. The war included
many allied countries, they included a big part of the Middle East, Canada, United States and the
United Kingdom and many more. After lasting 100 hours the war ended on February 28th, 1991 (The
Gulf War,1991)
The Desert Storm, which is also known as the Persian Gulf War and known as Operation Desert
Storm, started at the end of the Cold War in 1990. The Desert Storm happened because Saddam
Hussein, who was the leader of Iraq ordered invasion and occupation of the neighboring country of
Kuwait, in August of 1990. Hussein was told by the United Nations Security Council to withdraw
from Kuwait by the middle of January 1991, and Hussein disregarded their demands. Because he
refused to withdraw the Persian Gulf War was triggered (Feinstein, 39). The Iraqi takeover posed a
threat to Saudi Arabia, which was another oil supplying country for the United States. If Saudi Arabia
took over by Hussein than he would have controlled one fifth of the world s oil supply. The Middle
East had their eyes on the White House, waiting for a response from President George H. W. Bush.
When he found out his response was, This will not stand, meaning that Hussein taking over the
Middle East s oil would not be tolerable (Operation Desert Storm).

Essay on Reinsurance Of Catastrophe Risks
Reinsurance of Catastrophe Risks
Introduction
Extreme events happen very seldom, however, they can inflict tremendous damage when they strike.
The events are either natural occurrences (earthquake, flood, volcanoes, landslides, tsunamis) or man
made event (fire disasters, plane crashes, riots).
Increasing earthquake damage in recent years is evidence of rising vulnerability for the communities
as more people with more valuable property are residing in earthquake prone areas as it is observed by
the rapid population growth. In developing countries most of the growth is in very large urban centres,
for example, the Nairobi of today is very different from what it was 15 years ago both in population
and property.

The reinsurers then provide protection to primary insurers by insuring a portion of their claims in
exchange for a premium.
Why take Catastrophe Protection?
Insurance companies should know their exposure to catastrophic perils affecting properties they have
insured; if ignored, these perils can be life threatening because:
Compared with non catastrophe type of perils, catastrophe perils are unpredictable as to location,
frequency, and severity. While the amount of insurance liability is measured by summing the policy
limits, the amount of catastrophe exposure cannot be determined with any precision until after the
event.
The law of large numbers is limited in its benefit to the reinsured in catastrophes because they have
infrequent occurrences as they affect an individual insurance company.
The potential of un reinsured catastrophe exposures is fatal to the insurer and if not managed properly,
catastrophe perils can destroy the insurance enterprise.
After assessing the catastrophe exposure, the next critical thing is to seek for protection to cater for the
eventualities.
Management through Traditional Reinsurance
Protection for the catastrophe risks is provided by reinsurers through Catastrophe excess of loss which
covers the reinsured s retention against natural catastrophes accumulations

Unrealistic Expectations Of Young Adolescents
When comparing this television show to other young adolescent programs this one is the most
realistic, in my opinion. But of course to keep the show entertaining for the audience they mix in
unrealistic expectations or situations they may face in real life. One example is Riley having her own
emergency credit card. The girls were wanting to sell their clothes but got conned into buying other
clothes instead. Riley simply pulled out her credit card to pay for the clothes .If a young adolescent
was watching this show they would start asking her parents for a credit card. This situation makes
young adolescents feel like they should be treated like grown ups , they want to be independent

Homosexuality in Ha Jin s the Bridegroom Essay
History of Homosexuality in Society
Throughout the course of history, the topic of homosexuality and its acceptable behavior has been one
of varying opinions and much heated debate. Although how tolerated homosexual behavior was all
through history can differ depending on who your source is, most everyone can agree that a few large
cultures were either strongly for, or against, homosexuality.
One key player in the fight against homosexuality was the all powerful England. The first English
civil law against sodomy was passed by Parliament in 1533. In Act 25 Henry 8, Chapter 6 which
begins Forasmuch as there is not yet sufficient and condign punishment appointed and limited by the

These types of moralistic judgments constantly flooded the so called scientific study of
homosexuality. Religion also plays a key role in the persecution of homosexuals. The belief that
homosexuality is a sin seems to dominate the church community. Those of Islamic religion are
strongly against the very idea of homosexuality and offer a strong punishment to those who oppose
their views. In Saudi Arabia on April 16, 2001, five homosexuals were sentenced to 2,600 lashes and 6
years in prison, and four others to 2,400 lashes and 5 years imprisonment for deviant sexual behavior.
(Associated Press 2001) As of today, same sex intercourse is still prohibited in Islam. Bible believing
Christians have also responded to the apparent growth in acceptance of homosexuality in various
ways. Many fundamentalists view homosexual behavior as a choice, and believe that it is possible and
desirable to make a transition to heterosexuality. Many evangelical

Christians also see the acceptance of homosexuality as a threat to their beliefs and doctrines.
While many of today s eastern cultures still adhere strongly to their old oppositions on homosexuality,
western societies have shown much more progress.

conjunction with the development of the often activist academic

Tate and Lyle PLC Tate and Lyle PLC is an international manufacturer of cane sugar, sucralose and

As illustrated by Sloman and Hinde (2007), an Oligopoly by nature has price stability, even when
there has been no collusion between firms. This theory is based on two assumptions. For example, if
Tate and Lyle were to lower their prices, British Sugar and the other rivals would feel the need to
follow suit to prevent losing customers to Tate and Lyle. Contrastingly, if British Sugar raised their
prices, Tate and Lyle would not follow suit. They would keep their prices the same and gain customers
from British Sugar. The kinked demand model illustrates this. A kinked demand curve for Tate and
Lyle as an Oligopolist Sloman and Hinde (2007) For any firm changing its price, it is vital to know the
likely effect on the quantity demanded Sloman and Hinde (2007). Tate and Lyle was thinking of
increasing its prices after a decline in profitability due to the rising cost of oil which plays a big part in
its energy costs. Tate and Lyle are in a market with very low price elasticity. Sugar is not a very
expensive commodity and people will still buy it even if the price goes up slightly. Another aspect is
that people become accustomed to sugar in their tea or coffee for instance, so even if prices rose
significantly, consumers would not give up their sugar consumption straight away. (Bized, 2005) Price

Common Genomic Variation Alone Cannot Account for Complex...
Since the first genome wide association study (GWAS) in 2005, it has become increasingly evident
that common genomic variation alone cannot account for complex traits (3). While GWAS have
helped understand certain traits and diseases, most studies have linked sequence variation to only 1.1
1.5 fold increase in risk (3 5). Pursuit of the missing heritability has taken the form of both utilization
of next generation sequencing to uncover rare variation and more recently, studies of epigenetic
regulation (4, 6).
Epigenetics stems from the observation that genotypically identical cells can exhibit alternative and
stably heritable phenotypes. These traits, along with the chromosomal mechanisms that produce them
and ensure their propagation without alterations in the primary DNA sequence, are referred to as
epigenetic. (7 9). Alternatively, regions in the genome where the epigenetic state varies and results in
alternative phenotypes are referred to as epialleles (10).
Epigenetic variation adds a regulatory layer to genome function (11). This environment dependent
regulation is implicated in many fundamental biological processes including developmental cell
differentiation (9), stem cell function, aging (12) and disease progression and relapse (11, 13 15).
Furthermore, understanding epigenetics paves the way for pharmaceutically targeting maladaptive
variation (13, 16, 17).
At a molecular level, epigenetics variation manifests itself in the way DNA is packaged in the

Baraka And Kaufman
Question: What can be seen by examining the nexus of marginalized experiences expressed in both
Bob Kaufman and Amiri Baraka s poetry (using critical race theory and queer theory), which centers
on homophobia and racism, and produces cultural isolation, alienation/imprisonment, and a
devastating psychic loneliness.
Question: How does the subject presented in Bob Kaufman and Amiri Barak s poetry polarize a shift
in American Culture and thus redefine what it means to be an American.
Bob Kaufman and Amiri Baraka as poet activists drew influence from William Blake and Arthur

(Damon 141). This completely ignores that fact that in San Francisco where Kaufman lived, and in
New York where Baraka lived, the Beat culture lived in close and overlapping proximity with a
burgeoning gay male community which had cultural but as yet no political visibility (141). During the
Beat Generation, the black man was a source of fear and desire for white men both gay and straight. In
this space the Black hipster carried a presumed straightness (144). In her essay Triangulated Desire

Discussion Of Potato Titration
The purpose of the iodimetric back titration, a form of redox titration, experiment is to determine the
weigh percentage of ascorbic acid in Vitamin C tablets. The experiment is performed by titrating
iodine solution that contains the dissolved ascorbic acid with sodium thiosulfate. The results of the
titration was inconclusive, and the weight percentage of the ascorbic acid could not be determined.
Several sources of error could explain the variation of titrated volume of sodium thiosulfate. These
sources of error include oxidation of sodium thiosulfate, the oxidation of ascorbic acid, the instability
of the iodide solution, and the starch indicator. Most of the sources of error are problems with samples
and solution being oxidized by the atmosphere. The results of the current experiment is dependent on
correcting the sources of error. To decrease the oxidation by air, prompt titrations are needed and
glassware that are light sensitive are needed to ensure that the sodium thiosulfate solution does not
oxidize.
Introduction The experiment is a redox titration process. A redox titration involves an oxidation
reduction reaction between an analyte and the titrate (Harris, 2016, p. 374). Iodine is commonly used
in a redox titration as it is a versatile redox reagent. Therefore, iodine can be a moderately weak
oxidizing agent or a moderately weak reducing agents depending in the presence of strong oxidants or
reducing agents.
This versatility allows iodine to be

Underage Drinking Cause
About 7.7 million Americans between ages 12 20 report current alcohol consumption; this represents
nearly 20% of this age group for whom alcohol consumption is illegal. Among 12 20 year olds,
reported rates of past month consumption, binge drinking and heavy alcohol all declined between
2006 and 2015 (2015 National Survey on Drug Use and Health). Underage drinking is a serious
problem in society. Minors think it is cool to go to parties and drink with friends. The consequences of
doing so do not cross a minor s mind until it is too late. Peer pressure, modeling parents behavior, and
curiosity all lead to underage drinking.

There are several causes for underage drinking. Something as simple as a friend allowing another
friend that has not tried alcohol before to have a taste can turn in to underage drinking. In the United
States, 20% of youth aged 12 to 20 years old drink alcohol (National Survey on Drug Use and Health).
Underage drinking increases the risks for alcohol abuse or dependence increases. Youth who start
drinking before age 15 years old are six times more likely to develop alcohol dependence or abuse
later in life than those who begin drinking at or after age 21 years old (Center for Disease Control).
Underage drinking is an eerie thing to think about. It is so real in society and has been for a long time.
Though underage drinking is an active problem, the numbers have declined in recent years. 54%

one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind (NASA). The other two who were also part of
this accomplishment was the pilot, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins.
Before this historic triumph, almost a decade before it occurred, the 35th president of the Unites
States, John F. Kennedy, on May 25, 1961, he proposed to the world the ambitious goal to put a man
on the moon before the decade if out (Logsdon 37). John F. Kennedy truly believed that it was only a
matter of time for them to make it possible since their technology was already too advanced. There has
been so much more that humans have been capable of and landing on the moon sure was going to be
one of them. As technology advances, humans are capable of so much more, such as discovering
nuclear power, the invention of the television, satellites, and computers. These have proven that the
intellectual knowledge in humans keeps expanding every single day, making it possible to make more
discoveries and accomplishments. John F. Kennedy was not able to witness such success because two
years later, after his speech, he

Was Commodus Cruel Or Chaotic
I believe that Commodus was a cruel and chaotic ruler of Rome because of all the things that he has
done as emperor. Commodus was cruel and chaotic because he killed things for fun. Another reason is
Commodus started the fall of the roman empire(an extensive group of states or countries under a
single supreme authority, formerly especially an emperor or empress). One last reason that Commodus
was cruel and chaotic is that he would fight as a gladiator in the Colosseum. Some people say that
Commodus had a good education, making him a good leader but that s just wrong.
Commodus was cruel because he killed things for fun. Some evidence to support this is that when
Commodus practiced fighting as a gladiator he would slay his opponents. M R

Postmodernism And Modernism In Catch 22
Regarding the plot of the novel, Catch 22 follows the experiences of Captain Yossarian, a bombardier
in the Mediterranean theater of World War II in 1944, who flies missions from the island of Pianosa
over targets in Italy and France. He is surrounded by a huge cast of colourful and often weird
characters, who are intended to satirize not only military life but life in any large institution. They
include Doc Daneeka, the base medical officer who is more concerned with his own problems than
with those of his patients; Lieutenant Milo Minderbinder, the mess officer who uses his connections to
build a massive commercial empire that includes dealing with the enemy and who is the culmination
of the business forces In war environment.; Major Major ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The characteristics include the use of irony, playfulness, metafiction, and black humour. It is the term
used to suggest a reaction or response to modernism in the late twentieth century. So postmodernism
can only be understood in relation to Modernism. Postmodernism describes both an era and a broad
movement that developed in the late 20th century across philosophy, the arts, architecture and
criticism which marked a departure from modernism. At its core, Postmodernism rejects that which
Modernism champions. While postmodernism seems very much like modernism in many ways, it
differs from modernism in its attitude toward a lot of these trends. Modernism, for example, tends to
present a fragmented view of human subjectivity and history, but presents that fragmentation as
something tragic, something to be lamented and mourned as a loss. Postmodernism, in contrast, doesn
t lament the idea of fragmentation, but rather celebrates it. In literature, it used to describe certain
characteristics of post World War II literature, for example, on fragmentation, paradox, questionable
narrators, etc. and a reaction against Enlightenment ideas implicit in Modernist

Wuthering Heights Meaning Of Love Essay
Wuthering Heights by Emily Brontë is considered a great Victorian love story between various
characters, but most famously, between Catherine Earnshaw and Heathcliff. As the novel is a tale of
romance, the word love and other related words is used a great deal throughout. It is used to describe
the emotions and sentiments of the various characters in relation to other characters. On the surface,
love is perceived as something beautiful and amazing but this does not cover the complex layers that it
contains. What makes it so elaborate are the develop characters that become involved with the word.
Brontë creates developed characters with personalities and uses the word love through their lens to
demonstrate how they perceive and view love. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Yet there is a contradiction between the meaning of love that Catherine and Heathcliff communicate to
one another in comparison to their actions. In society, when a person loves another person, it is a
social norm that they get married to prove that they are committed to one another. However, Catherine
refuses to marry Heathcliff despite the emotional and spiritual bond they share because marrying him
would be beneath her. The sense of love between the two is so deep that for them not to be wed creates
a confusion surrounding their meaning of love. Although the keyword love is used multiple times
throughout the novel, one of the first moments it is used in a romantic notion is when Nelly asks
Catherine if she loves Edgar. I question why the word love is not firstly used in the context of
Catherine and Heathcliff; as they possess a very passionate love. The quote states: First and foremost,
do you love Mr. Edgar? Who can help it? Of course I do, she answered (69). However, there is a
complication between the type of love that Nelly and Catherine imply. Nelly hopes that Catherine
genuinely loves Edgar because she knows that Catherine is in love with Heathcliff. The love that
Catherine knowingly possesses in relation to Edgar is selfish and shallow, yet marries him anyway.
She marries Edgar because he is socially respectable; he is handsome, young, rich and because he
loves her. Edgar seems to have priority over Catherine s love because of his social

The Transition Of Medieval And Modern Times
The transition of Medieval to Modern happened over a long period of time. The middle ages marked a
dark time in Europe s history, and the people were anxious to get out. The Renaissance began, and art
emerged to create a brighter society. During the Reformation, the country shifted away from the
Roman Catholic Church, and many Protestant religions emerged. The Scientific Revolution also
marked a change in medical to modern by creating new ways to look at the world and mathematics.
The Age of Discovery marked yet another change in Medical to modern Europe when new

During the end of the Middle Ages, the Church became corrupt and started focusing on money instead

Martin Luther was the first to go against the church, and he was followed by many other reformers

They formed their own ways of religion against the church, and formed a modern way of religion in
Europe. Before, there was one main religion, and if you were not Catholic you were not accepted. Yet
after the Reformation, more religions emerged in Europe. Although they were not all accepted

Cleveland Indians Argumentative Essay
The Cleveland Indians are a baseball team founded in 1894 (cleveland.indians.mlb.com). Although the
name is obviously racist, in 1894 there unfortunately was not as large of public concern regarding the
treatment of Native Americans. Now, the name is deemed to be offensive, as it should be. The logo
depicts a Native American referred to as Chief Wahoo, an aspect of the team that also creates public
scrutiny. For these reasons, the Cleveland Indians are changing their logo. However, the
implementation of the decision will be put off a year and the team will continue using the name.
Moreover, the logo will still be available on merchandize, enabling the team to profit off of racist
insignia. In 2014, president and CEO of the Cleveland Indians, Mark Shapiro, had already limited the
use of the logo. Thus, evidently, the Cleveland Indians are not doing enough to combat the prejudice
and insensitivity they exhibit through their team name, mascot and logo. The team also is clearly only
publicizing their supposedly monumental, yet actually minute, decision in order to boost public
perception of the organization. This is not a decision done in order to do the right thing; it is a

Why You should Buy American Made Essays
Have you ever thought about those little words in fine print that tell you where a product was made?
How about the last time you put tires on your car? Before you made a decision on the purchase did
you stop and ask where the tires are made? Probably not! You heard the only words you wanted to
hear....good and cheap! When did we stop caring about where a product is made or did we ever? Why
would this matter anyway and what importance is of it? Some may argue that free trade and imports
give us purchasing power. They believe cheaper goods results in more money in our pocket to buy
other goods. That theory is a farce with little to no data to support it. Buying American made supports
job growth, the environment and human rights. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
I can just see the shoppers now just walking by checking the price and throwing a package in their
cart. One of the main reasons to buy American made is jobs. Jobs drive our economy. Financial
analysts pay close attention to the monthly jobs report. The monthly jobs report is a direct indicator of
how healthy our economy is and a forecast for the future. It s like the doctor taking a persons pulse. A
good strong pulse indicates you appear to be healthy, but a weak pulse indicates you may have
problems. It would be hard to pay for even the basic necessities without a job. When you buy
American made products you are supporting your friends, family and neighbors. Those folks are the
ones getting paid to manufacture products that you find on the shelf at your local stores. If they don t
sell those products then there is no need to manufacture them. We can no survive with just a service
economy. Meaning someone to fix your furnace or change the oil in your car. We need manufacturing
jobs to have a healthy economy. If the labor market is no concern to you then maybe the environment
is. Many foreign countries have little to no regulations on their manufacturing facilities to protect the
environment. The drawback of this makes it difficult for American companies to compete. Paying
fines or accumulating additional costs to meet energy standards is not cost effective. This can affect

The Portrayal Of Race On The Media
The Portrayal of Race in the Media
Ryker M. Bolden
Walla Walla University Abstract
This paper takes a look at five popular American television shows and breaks down how race and
issues involving racism are portrayed in American media, specifically television, in today s society.
We will analyze the characters, symbols, messages, and interactions in each of the five programs and
how they shape the public attitude on racial and ethnic groups. The shows used in this paper are
Veronica Mars, Community, Whose Line is it Anyway, Psych, and Castle. Each of these programs
offer similar portrayals of race; few characters fall into stereotypes while the majority of others are
unique and well balanced. Keywords: racism, stereotypes, discrimination The Portrayal of Race in the
Media Television is a massively popular media platform that provides information to billions of
viewers worldwide. This information plays a significant role in shaping the public opinion on many
topics. However, when the information provided on TV is inaccurate or oversimplified it can often
lead to misinterpretation by the viewer. Research has shown that television often influences people s
opinions and attitude towards other racial and ethnic groups. Since a stereotype is oversimplified
generalization about a group of people, it makes sense that the oversimplified information that shows
up on television could easily form stereotypes about the different racial and ethnic groups we see.

Magna Carta Clauses
Only 4 of the 63 are still in operation today and 2 of them will forever be replicated in other countries
legal system. Clauses, 39 and 40, in the Magna Carta are both significant to many legal frameworks
around the globe today. Clause 39 and 40 states:
No free man shall be seized, imprisoned, dispossessed, outlawed, exiled or ruined in any way, nor in
any way proceeded against, except by the lawful judgement of his peers and the law of the land. To no
one will we sell, to no one will we deny or delay right or justice. (The Contents of the Magna Carta,
2018).
These clauses gave all the free men of the land the rights to be prosecuted by lawful and legal
judgement of its peers and land. No one could refute or postpone the right of justice. Unfortunately,
the newly signed Charter only applied to free men of the land, not peasants. Many peasants were
slaves to their owners and they had no rights outlined in the document (Breay Harrison, 2014). ...

Religiously, the Magna Carta also served as purpose. Many of the original clauses of the document
safeguarded specific material interests of church and clergy (Helmholz, 2016). For example, Clause 22
specifically limits the powers of the Crown to levy amercements or monetary fines against the clergy.
While eliminating benefices from the process of how large the monetary fines would be. Another
example is Clause 60 which states that the clergy have their own rights under the law and would be
always practiced in future circumstances. (Helmholz, 2016).. One that was blatantly stated and made
first in the numerous amount of Clauses stated that The English church is to be free and to have its full
rights and its liberties intact (West, 2015). The clergy was amongst those men that were considered

to send one member to the United State House of Representatives. Districting is the initial set district,

Since then, gerrymandering has been used to gain partisan advantage and to shape the political
projections of politicians and racial and ethnic groups. The two most common gerrymandering
techniques include packing and cracking, disappointingly both waste valuable votes in doing so.
Packing has both an offensive and defensive strategy. Offensively, packing is to fill a district with
many voters of one type to create a safe seat; typically used in partisan gerrymandering. Defensively,
packing is to compress voters of one type into as few districts as possible to dilute their influence
elsewhere. However, cracking is to spread as many voters of one type into as many districts as
possible to dilute their influence; typically used in racial gerrymandering. Partisan and Racial
gerrymandering are two common forms of gerrymandering. Partisan gerrymandering is the
manipulation of districts to increase members of a specific party by drawing district lines on the basis
of party identification. Racial gerrymandering is drawing district lines on the basis of race; possibly
leading to a majority minority district. After the ratification of the Fifteenth Amendment granting
former slaves the right to vote, many southern states implemented a variety of methods to prevent the
adoption of the new law. The Voting Rights Act (VRA) of 1965 was the solution to the unfair methods

Integrated Reporting Of Nigeri Where We Are Coming From
4.0 INTEGRATED REPORTING IN NIGERIA: WHERE WE ARE COMING FROM 4.1
PRACTICES PLAYERS Accounting principles as practiced in Nigeria has its origin in Britain due to
the colonial influence and the early influence of accountants of Nigerian origin who were practising in
the UK. These accountants were made a move to institutionalize accounting in Nigeria and therefore
designed the framework of accounting practice based on their current inclination. Association of
Accountants in Nigeria (AAN) [1] the progenitor of ICAN was formed in 1960. ICAN herself did not
come into existence until September 1, 1965 [ 2]. This officially set the ball rolling for the regulation
of accounting practice in Nigeria. ICAN is not the only professional accountancy association
regulating the practice of the profession in Nigeria though it has remained dominant over the years.
The other being Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) which was chartered on 25th
August, 1993 [3]. Relations between the two bodies has been anything but cordial as ICAN sought to
void the decree establishing the other body in order to have sole control over the regulation of
accountants and accounting profession in Nigeria. In November 2007 this attempt failed as the Federal
High court in Lagos dismissed the suit. [4] 4.2 POOR REGULATIONS AND REGULATORY

Brilliant Mathematicians from History Shape Math of Today
Mathematicians not only play an important role in society today, but all the brilliant math minds from
the past helped shape every mathematical theory we know, study, and learn today. Math is used every
single day, in every continent, every country, every state, and every city. It is the way we solve
everyday problems. It is the way we calculate the distance from sun to earth, the way we determine
amount of miles one drives from their home to work, the way we estimate our grocery bill before
approaching a register, the way we figure out the probability of failing or passing a test, it is the way
we as humans approach, solve, and conclude problems we face day in, and day out. There are a
various amount of languages spoken to communicate in our world today, but math is one that people
from all different parts of planet earth understand, and use for the same purposes. Mathematicians are
in a way, unsung heroes, without their discoveries, we would be lost, confused, and not nearly as
intelligent. Gauss was one of those heroes. Carl Freidrich Gauss was a German mathematician and a
physical scientist also known as the Prince of Mathematics . He was born on April 30th, 1777 in

Psychological And Social Process Theory Paper
There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of crime. Two theories for the cause of crime
are the Psychological and Social Process Theory. According to Schmalleger (2015), psychological
theorist believe crime is the result of inappropriate behavioral conditioning or a diseased mind (p. 78).
Social Process Theory claims crime results from failure of self direction, from inadequate social roles,
or from associating with others who are already criminals (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103). Another theory
is Conflict theory, Schmalleger (2015) states that according to conflict theory crime is a natural
consequence of social, political, and economic inequities (p. 77). Another approach to crime causation
is the Sociological theories which argue the individual is a product of his or her environment
(Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103).
Conflict theories are based on the belief that conflict among groups is unavoidable. According to
Schmalleger (2015), conflict theorists highlight the stress that arise among a social group as they
compete for resources and survival (p. 99). Conflict theorist believe that laws are tools of power which
further the interests of those who make them. This allows for those in power to gain control of
resources and deny accesses to disenfranchised groups (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 99).
Sociological theories on crime causation are pretty different, but they are all built on certain
foundations. According to Schmalleger (2015), sociological theorist

Target Description
This law is a federal law, so I would want to reach out to the federal legislator Joe Donnelley.
Defining the Problem/ Assemble the Evidence
This law was intended to help new mothers, but there are still gaps in this law. Some issues come from
accessibility, coverage, and support. The Affordable Care Act requires employers to provide mothers
that are breastfeeding with a reasonable time and a space to express their milk. Unfortunately, only
forty percent of women returned to work with these accommodations. I believe this is an issue because
forty percent is an extremely small number and if this is a law, then that mean that various employers
are not giving nursing mothers the accommodation that they are supposed to have. Women are also
facing challenges with getting lactation support for no expense, which is supposed to be covered under
their insurance. Why pass a law to help nursing mothers if there are no records of mothers having
access to it? It is important for most mothers that their child is healthy and it is not fair to tell them
they have access to something that employers aren t giving them. Only six states have passed laws
expanding workplace breastfeeding accommodations to additional employees or extending
requirements for employers. I believe that extending the requirements for employers to make sure
nursing mothers are getting the time and the place is extremely important because it makes

Causes Of The Sino-Japanese War
The start of the Russo Japanese was made in January 1904. Previously, Japan had broken off
diplomatic relations with Russia on February 6, 1904, following with the attack on Port Arthur
February 8 and declaring war on Russia February 10. Over the span of a month, Korea was occupied
by soldiers, advancing into the Manchurian territory and the Liaodong Peninsula occupied by naval
forces. An August siege of Port Arthur followed the attack and fell in January 1905. Gradually, both
powers found difficulty to continue fighting. The war ended with Theodore Roosevelt mediation;
Japan had won which ensued the Portsmouth Treaty to grant Japan back it s sovereignty in China and
Manchuria, along with special access to the Liaodong Peninsula. What were the underlying causes of
the Russo Japanese War? To what extent did nationalism/imperialism contribute to the war? What did
the government do to contribute to the war? Japan s motives for the war stemmed from tension made
between Russia; the Triple Intervention and the construction of the Trans Siberian railroad. Imperialist
and nationalistic motives drove Japan to change its leader of power and created a blanket of
astigmatism throughout Japan s people, using authoritative and irrational actions, taking away human
rights and installing many ideas.
Before the war, events like the Sino Japanese War, Triple Intervention, Anglo Japanese Treaty, and the
Trans Siberian railroad contributed to the tension. In 1894, the Sino Japanese War broke out between
Japan and China, competing for their rights and interests in Korea; the result of the war lead to Japan s
victory. Following the war, in 1895, the Triple Intervention (Russia, France, and Germany) entailed
that Japan to retrocede all territorial victories from the war. This included to give back the Liaodong
Peninsula to China and to resign control over China. Japan was in no state to risk military
confrontation therefore couldn t fight back (Emergence of Modern Japan). Subsequently, Russia
proceeded to build a railroad through Manchurian territory into the Liaodong Peninsula, continuing its
expansionist policies in northeast Asia. Japan, in an effort to make a truce, Ito offered a trade off
arrangement with Russia: Japan

Design and Production of a game that Supports the...
This assignment incudes the design and production of a game that supports the emotional and social
aspects of learning (SEAL). The game was created to meet the specific needs of children who are the
siblings of a disabled child. The relationship of the author s game and the SEAL programme will be
considered. Thereafter the way in which children acquire emotional understanding and its impact on
social development will be explored. Finally the author will explain the reasoning for the game and
how it will help to meet the unique needs of the children it was designed for.
The authors game is designed to be used in support of, and as an extension to, the Social and
Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme Good to be me element (2005), which addresses
the management of feelings, self awareness and showing empathy. The game is intended to be used

to be able to recognise, name and talk about the emotions that they experience as a sibling of a
disabled child, secondly to become aware that some of their peers are in similar situations to
themselves which may help them feel less isolated. As Children develop they gain more emotional

After School Dropouts
Do after school programs help close the academic gap in African American and Latino middle school
students?
Many middle school students who are failing academically will become part of the ever increasing
drop out statistics in our nation. More than 7000 students in the U.S.become dropouts every school
day, nearly 1.3 million students per year. It is estimated that dropouts from 2006 alone will cost
taxpayers $17 billion in Medicaid and uninsured medical expenses alone over the ir lifetimes
(Alliance for Excellence Education, 2010). Sadly, dropouts often have children that become dropouts
and a cycle is created which continues (Dropout and TruancyPrevention,2011). Given these statistics
and costs to society, it is imperative that we seek solutions to this problem.
The concern for at risk students and dropout ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Young adolescents offer afterschool providers a special set of challenges which they must overcome in
order to attract and retain participants. For example, young adolescents are more autonomous, busier,
better able and more likely to articulate specific needs, and less appeased by activities designed for a
general audience. While youth in grades six through eight can clearly benefit from participation in
afterschool, programs must recognize the needs of these youth and employ innovative strategies to
attract and keep them engaged.
The goal was to also gain a better understanding of the perceptions of administrators, teachers, and
students in order to determine which aspects of the afterschool program were perceived as engaging
and served to promote student achievement. As schools struggle to meet federal achievement
standards, after school programs being viewed as a source of academic support for youth at risk of
school failure. Including a disproportionally large number of economically disadvantaged and ethnic

Identify The Four Major Landforms Of Europe
3. Identify the four main physical landforms of Europe. What are the main features of each? The four
major landforms of Europe include the Western Uplands, North European Plain, Central Uplands and
Alpine Mountains. These landforms are primarily arranged in bands that run from east to west. Each
landform provides a biodiversity and resources for humans. The Western Uplands are formed of
ancient rock that has been shaped by glaciation and shapes the north and west coastline of Europe. It
includes Spain, French Brittany, Scandinavia, and the British Isles. The North European Plain is low
and fertile and has rivers. It goes from southern Britain through the middle of Europe to Russia. The
Central Uplands are mostly wooded hills and highlands in France, Belgium, southern Germany, and
the Czech Republic. The Alpine Mountains have high mountain peaks and active volcanoes that run
from northern Spain across southern Europe to the Caucasus in Russia. The High Alps range from
eastern France to Slovenia and are central to the Alpine region. Mountains act as a natural dividing
range and can also isolate people and separate cultural groups. The Central Uplands is the area
bordering the main Alps to the north, which includes a significant portion of southern Germany
extending eastward. These foothills provide excellent farmland, and there are major agricultural
operations here. Western Highlands offer an area for grazing livestock and farming in the meadows
and valleys. The Scottish

  • 2. Alberta, Canad A Short Story It s December 17, 2002 ,5:46pm in Alberta, Canada there s a bitter burning smell in the air as I return home to my mother. The long drive gives me time to think about the argument we had this morning and I m full of regret of all the hurtful things we said. All because I didn t want to discuss my father s passing 4 years ago. As I approach our dreadfully long driveway, I see smoke black as night in the distance, them red and blue flashing lights with police tape blocking off our red colonial home. I rush out of my car leaving my car on and begin to feel numb. I fall to the ground as an officer tries to catch me, but misses and I hit the gray gravel in my driveway. Soon after me was Jim rushing out of the building. The team put out the few other buildings and we had accomplished the mission at hand. Afterwards Jim and I went back to Banff and had breakfast after staying up all night looking at a hot red light. I thanked Jim for going inside the building and helping me save the girl inside, JIm then explained to me that he didn t just go inside to get the job done, but to comfort me when he knew I didn t have a lot of experience with such a big fire. This helped me to realize that my teammates had my back. • 3. Santa Sabina Research Paper The principal architectural elements of this design are the three aisled basilica with no transepts. The basilica is an axially planned church with a long nave, side aisles, and an apse for the altar. Santa Sabina also has a long, tall, broad nave, following an axial plan. The spolia are the tall slender columns. Santa Sabina has windows made not of glass, but of selenite, a type of transparent and colorless gypsum. Santa Sabina also has a flat wooden roof, coffered ceiling, and thin walls supporting a light roof. As an early Christian basilica, Santa Sabina has thin walls supporting wooden roofs with coffered ceilings. Lastly, Santa Sabina has a bare exterior with a sensitively decorated interior, which represents the Christian whose exterior may not be very attractive, but whose interior soul is gorgeous. Santa Sabina employed several Roman columns from Pagan temples. This type of reuse of architectural or sculptural elements is known as spolia. Early Christian churches also came in two ways, both of which were inspired by Roman architecture. Santa Sabina is an example of the more numerous axially planned building, which has a long nave focusing on an apse. Early Christian basilicas, just like in Santa Sabina, had thin walls supporting wooden roofs with coffered ceilings. Another example of an element of the Christian design which was adapted from non Christian sources are the spolia, or tall slender columns. • 4. Where To Move At last! The decision to move has finally been made and after a long time of discussing where to move to, my family and I have decided to move to California. We have been consulting about where to move to for a while now but all the places that were talked about had been vetoed, so the subject was always dropped and we continued on live on Cape Cod in Massachusetts. After a long winter, my mother had come into contact with one of her old friends who was living in California. At first she had only jokingly mentioned the idea of moving with her friend. But I was also excited to make new friends while experiencing the new world. In excitement I began to look up the schools that were around the area that I was going to live in. This mini research helped a lot with my nerves because the schools didn t look too bad. In the very last paragraph of An Inquiry Concerning Human Understanding, Hume states, When we run over libraries, persuaded of these principles, what havoc must we make? If we take in our hand any volume; of divinity or school metaphysics, for instance; let us ask, Does it contain any abstract reasoning concerning quantity or number? No. Does it contain any experimental reasoning concerning matter of fact and existence? No. Commit it then to the flames: for it can contain nothing but sophistry and illusion. (1) In other words, what Hume is expressing to us is that unless we can provide empirical evidence to validate our arguments, we are not actually making a statement of substance, and thus should disregard that idea. • 6. The Human Of Human Cloning 1. INTRODUCTION Human cloning is the creation of a genetically identical copy of a human. However, this term not only refers to the entire artificial human, but also the reproduction of human cells and tissues. There are two types of theoretical human cloning: reproductive cloning which would involve making an entire cloned human and the other, therapeutic cloning, which would involve cloning cells from a human for use in medicine and transplants by somatic cell nuclear transfer or pluripotent stem cell induction. In reproductive cloning the entire genetic code is reproduced from a single body cell of an adult individual. The most common cloning technique is somatic cell nuclear transfer (SCNT). The procedure is as follows: The ... ISSUES Although the human cloning seems fairly beneficial and useful for human welfare, the possibility of human cloning has raised controversies. Concerning reproductive cloning, advocates believe that parents who cannot otherwise procreate should have access to the technology. Some opponents have concerns that technology is not yet developed enough to be safe while others emphasize that reproductive cloning could be prone to abuse (leading to the generation of humans whose organs and tissues would be harvested), and have concerns about how cloned individuals could integrate with families and with society at large. With regards to therapeutic cloning, the problem is that many attempts are often required to create a viable egg. The stability of the egg with the infused somatic nucleus is poor and it can require hundreds of attempts before success is attained. Therapeutic cloning does result in the destruction of an embryo after stem cells are extracted and this destruction has stirred controversy over the morality of the procedure. Some argue that the pros outweigh the cons with regards to treating disease and support development of therapeutic cloning in order to generate tissues and whole ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Essay Introduction This essay will first discuss the nature of Hofstede s cultural framework and compare it with other culture frameworks. In the second part my personal score for each of the Hofstede s cultural dimensions will be presented, followed by discussion on how my individual scores relate to the benchmarks suggested by Hofstede for my cultural background. The third section will address the issue of cross cultural management and give suggestion to an Australian friend who is going to work as a manager in Shanghai. Discussion of cultural frameworks During the year from 1967 to 1973, Hofstede (1983) conducted surveys on more than 117,000 IBM employees in 40 different countries. He analysed the survey data and identified four cultural dimensions as power distance , uncertainty avoidance , individualism , and masculinity (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006). Bond (1988) added the fifth dimension long term orientation in 1991. Power distance (PID) values the acceptance of different status and unequal distribution of power (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006). Uncertainty avoidance (UAI) measures how members of a society accept, defend against or minimize future uncertainties (Harvey 1997). Individualism (IDV) is the extent to which a society evaluates the role of the individual as opposed to that of the group (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006). Masculinity (MAS) refers to how a society emphasizes the achievements and success (Drogendijk and Slangen 2006). Long term orientation ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When allowed to range freely, particularly in organically maintained yards and pastures, they receive more exercise, their diet is more varied and they are exposed to commensal bacteria that help exclude, and build resistance to, harmful pathogens. Some organic practitioners also argue that free ranging animals actively seek out plants with medicinal properties that can build their resistance to illness, When Livestock production is carried out on a scale that suits the global market, however, huge numbers of animals are kept in tightly confined conditions, and ... The newest class of antibiotics, fluoroquinolones viewed as the last line of defence for some human infections are already proving ineffective against some bacteria strains. An epidemiologist for the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that among public health officials ³there is no controversy about where antibiotic resistance in food borne pathogens comes from²: the heavy use of antibiotics is to blame. The huge amounts of manure that the industrial livestock farms produce also represent a human health risk. In the Cape Fear region of North Carolina, for example, factory hog farms produce ten million metric tonnes of waste annually, equal to that produced by forty million people. When heavy rains hit in 1999, numerous lagoons containing the manure burst. In one case, two million gallons of hog waste spilled when a lagoon ruptured at a farm that raises hogs for a subsidiary of Smithfield Foods, the largest pork producer in the United States. Such manure spills were one reason the storm left 400,000 wells in North Carolina contaminated. Health officials expressed concern that an outbreak of gastrointestinal and other diseases, such as pathogenic E. coli, might be caused by contaminated drinking water. Other agribusiness livestock practices are equally alarming. Monsanto has been aggressively marketing rBGH, a recombinant form of a naturally occurring hormone, for use in dairy cows. Saddam Hussein, the leader of Iraq was the main person involved in the start of the war. The war included many allied countries, they included a big part of the Middle East, Canada, United States and the United Kingdom and many more. After lasting 100 hours the war ended on February 28th, 1991 (The Gulf War,1991) The Desert Storm, which is also known as the Persian Gulf War and known as Operation Desert Storm, started at the end of the Cold War in 1990. The Desert Storm happened because Saddam Hussein, who was the leader of Iraq ordered invasion and occupation of the neighboring country of Kuwait, in August of 1990. Hussein was told by the United Nations Security Council to withdraw from Kuwait by the middle of January 1991, and Hussein disregarded their demands. Because he refused to withdraw the Persian Gulf War was triggered (Feinstein, 39). The Iraqi takeover posed a threat to Saudi Arabia, which was another oil supplying country for the United States. If Saudi Arabia took over by Hussein than he would have controlled one fifth of the world s oil supply. The Middle East had their eyes on the White House, waiting for a response from President George H. W. Bush. The events are either natural occurrences (earthquake, flood, volcanoes, landslides, tsunamis) or man made event (fire disasters, plane crashes, riots). Increasing earthquake damage in recent years is evidence of rising vulnerability for the communities as more people with more valuable property are residing in earthquake prone areas as it is observed by the rapid population growth. In developing countries most of the growth is in very large urban centres, for example, the Nairobi of today is very different from what it was 15 years ago both in population and property. Why take Catastrophe Protection? Insurance companies should know their exposure to catastrophic perils affecting properties they have insured; if ignored, these perils can be life threatening because: Compared with non catastrophe type of perils, catastrophe perils are unpredictable as to location, frequency, and severity. While the amount of insurance liability is measured by summing the policy limits, the amount of catastrophe exposure cannot be determined with any precision until after the event. The law of large numbers is limited in its benefit to the reinsured in catastrophes because they have infrequent occurrences as they affect an individual insurance company. The potential of un reinsured catastrophe exposures is fatal to the insurer and if not managed properly, catastrophe perils can destroy the insurance enterprise. After assessing the catastrophe exposure, the next critical thing is to seek for protection to cater for the eventualities. Management through Traditional Reinsurance Protection for the catastrophe risks is provided by reinsurers through Catastrophe excess of loss which covers the reinsured s retention against natural catastrophes accumulations

The girls were wanting to sell their clothes but got conned into buying other clothes instead. Riley simply pulled out her credit card to pay for the clothes .If a young adolescent was watching this show they would start asking her parents for a credit card. Although how tolerated homosexual behavior was all through history can differ depending on who your source is, most everyone can agree that a few large cultures were either strongly for, or against, homosexuality. One key player in the fight against homosexuality was the all powerful England. The first English civil law against sodomy was passed by Parliament in 1533. Those of Islamic religion are strongly against the very idea of homosexuality and offer a strong punishment to those who oppose their views. In Saudi Arabia on April 16, 2001, five homosexuals were sentenced to 2,600 lashes and 6 years in prison, and four others to 2,400 lashes and 5 years imprisonment for deviant sexual behavior. (Associated Press 2001) As of today, same sex intercourse is still prohibited in Islam. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As illustrated by Sloman and Hinde (2007), an Oligopoly by nature has price stability, even when there has been no collusion between firms. This theory is based on two assumptions. For example, if Tate and Lyle were to lower their prices, British Sugar and the other rivals would feel the need to follow suit to prevent losing customers to Tate and Lyle. Contrastingly, if British Sugar raised their prices, Tate and Lyle would not follow suit. They would keep their prices the same and gain customers from British Sugar. The kinked demand model illustrates this. A kinked demand curve for Tate and Lyle as an Oligopolist Sloman and Hinde (2007) For any firm changing its price, it is vital to know the likely effect on the quantity demanded Sloman and Hinde (2007). Tate and Lyle was thinking of increasing its prices after a decline in profitability due to the rising cost of oil which plays a big part in its energy costs. Tate and Lyle are in a market with very low price elasticity. Sugar is not a very expensive commodity and people will still buy it even if the price goes up slightly. Another aspect is that people become accustomed to sugar in their tea or coffee for instance, so even if prices rose significantly, consumers would not give up their sugar consumption straight away. • 18. Common Genomic Variation Alone Cannot Account for Complex... Since the first genome wide association study (GWAS) in 2005, it has become increasingly evident that common genomic variation alone cannot account for complex traits (3). While GWAS have helped understand certain traits and diseases, most studies have linked sequence variation to only 1.1 1.5 fold increase in risk (3 5). Pursuit of the missing heritability has taken the form of both utilization of next generation sequencing to uncover rare variation and more recently, studies of epigenetic regulation (4, 6). Epigenetics stems from the observation that genotypically identical cells can exhibit alternative and stably heritable phenotypes. These traits, along with the chromosomal mechanisms that produce them and ensure their propagation without alterations in the primary DNA sequence, are referred to as epigenetic. (7 9). Alternatively, regions in the genome where the epigenetic state varies and results in alternative phenotypes are referred to as epialleles (10). Epigenetic variation adds a regulatory layer to genome function (11). This environment dependent regulation is implicated in many fundamental biological processes including developmental cell differentiation (9), stem cell function, aging (12) and disease progression and relapse (11, 13 15). Furthermore, understanding epigenetics paves the way for pharmaceutically targeting maladaptive variation (13, 16, 17). Question: How does the subject presented in Bob Kaufman and Amiri Barak s poetry polarize a shift in American Culture and thus redefine what it means to be an American. (Damon 141). This completely ignores that fact that in San Francisco where Kaufman lived, and in New York where Baraka lived, the Beat culture lived in close and overlapping proximity with a burgeoning gay male community which had cultural but as yet no political visibility (141). During the Beat Generation, the black man was a source of fear and desire for white men both gay and straight. In this space the Black hipster carried a presumed straightness (144). • 20. Discussion Of Potato Titration The purpose of the iodimetric back titration, a form of redox titration, experiment is to determine the weigh percentage of ascorbic acid in Vitamin C tablets. The experiment is performed by titrating iodine solution that contains the dissolved ascorbic acid with sodium thiosulfate. The results of the titration was inconclusive, and the weight percentage of the ascorbic acid could not be determined. Several sources of error could explain the variation of titrated volume of sodium thiosulfate. These sources of error include oxidation of sodium thiosulfate, the oxidation of ascorbic acid, the instability of the iodide solution, and the starch indicator. Most of the sources of error are problems with samples and solution being oxidized by the atmosphere. The results of the current experiment is dependent on correcting the sources of error. To decrease the oxidation by air, prompt titrations are needed and glassware that are light sensitive are needed to ensure that the sodium thiosulfate solution does not oxidize. Introduction The experiment is a redox titration process. A redox titration involves an oxidation reduction reaction between an analyte and the titrate (Harris, 2016, p. 374). Iodine is commonly used in a redox titration as it is a versatile redox reagent. Therefore, iodine can be a moderately weak oxidizing agent or a moderately weak reducing agents depending in the presence of strong oxidants or reducing agents. On July 20, 1969, the spaceflight known as the lunar module Eagle, landed the first three humans on the moon (NASA). The first human to step, and leave a footprint on the moon was mission commander, Neil Armstrong. Climbing down the ladder, the words that he said are still reminisced to this day, That s one small step for a man, one giant leap for mankind (NASA). The other two who were also part of this accomplishment was the pilot, Edwin Buzz Aldrin, and Michael Collins. Before this historic triumph, almost a decade before it occurred, the 35th president of the Unites States, John F. In society, when a person loves another person, it is a social norm that they get married to prove that they are committed to one another. However, Catherine refuses to marry Heathcliff despite the emotional and spiritual bond they share because marrying him would be beneath her. The sense of love between the two is so deep that for them not to be wed creates a confusion surrounding their meaning of love. Although the keyword love is used multiple times throughout the novel, one of the first moments it is used in a romantic notion is when Nelly asks Catherine if she loves Edgar. I question why the word love is not firstly used in the context of Catherine and Heathcliff; as they possess a very passionate love. The quote states: First and foremost, do you love Mr. Edgar? Who can help it? Of course I do, she answered (69). However, there is a complication between the type of love that Nelly and Catherine imply. Nelly hopes that Catherine genuinely loves Edgar because she knows that Catherine is in love with Heathcliff. Integrated Reporting Of Nigeri Where We Are Coming From 4.0 INTEGRATED REPORTING IN NIGERIA: WHERE WE ARE COMING FROM 4.1 PRACTICES PLAYERS Accounting principles as practiced in Nigeria has its origin in Britain due to the colonial influence and the early influence of accountants of Nigerian origin who were practising in the UK. These accountants were made a move to institutionalize accounting in Nigeria and therefore designed the framework of accounting practice based on their current inclination. Association of Accountants in Nigeria (AAN) [1] the progenitor of ICAN was formed in 1960. ICAN herself did not come into existence until September 1, 1965 [ 2]. This officially set the ball rolling for the regulation of accounting practice in Nigeria. ICAN is not the only professional accountancy association regulating the practice of the profession in Nigeria though it has remained dominant over the years. The other being Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) which was chartered on 25th August, 1993 [3]. Relations between the two bodies has been anything but cordial as ICAN sought to void the decree establishing the other body in order to have sole control over the regulation of accountants and accounting profession in Nigeria. In November 2007 this attempt failed as the Federal High court in Lagos dismissed the suit. [4] 4.2 POOR REGULATIONS AND REGULATORY FRAME WORK Despite the controversies in the practice of accounting profession, in roads were made towards strengthening the regulation of financial reporting ... • 36. Brilliant Mathematicians from History Shape Math of Today Mathematicians not only play an important role in society today, but all the brilliant math minds from the past helped shape every mathematical theory we know, study, and learn today. Math is used every single day, in every continent, every country, every state, and every city. It is the way we solve everyday problems. It is the way we calculate the distance from sun to earth, the way we determine amount of miles one drives from their home to work, the way we estimate our grocery bill before approaching a register, the way we figure out the probability of failing or passing a test, it is the way we as humans approach, solve, and conclude problems we face day in, and day out. There are a various amount of languages spoken to communicate in our world today, but math is one that people from all different parts of planet earth understand, and use for the same purposes. Mathematicians are in a way, unsung heroes, without their discoveries, we would be lost, confused, and not nearly as intelligent. Gauss was one of those heroes. Carl Freidrich Gauss was a German mathematician and a physical scientist also known as the Prince of Mathematics . He was born on April 30th, 1777 in Brunswick, Germany and was born to poor, working class parents. His mother was illiterate and his father was a gardener/brick layer. His father did not want Gauss to attend school, he wanted him to stay in the family business; but fortunately for him, his mother and uncle recognized his early talents as ... • 37. Psychological And Social Process Theory Paper There are many theories that attempt to explain the cause of crime. Two theories for the cause of crime are the Psychological and Social Process Theory. According to Schmalleger (2015), psychological theorist believe crime is the result of inappropriate behavioral conditioning or a diseased mind (p. 78). Social Process Theory claims crime results from failure of self direction, from inadequate social roles, or from associating with others who are already criminals (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103). Another theory is Conflict theory, Schmalleger (2015) states that according to conflict theory crime is a natural consequence of social, political, and economic inequities (p. 77). Another approach to crime causation is the Sociological theories which argue the individual is a product of his or her environment (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 103). Conflict theories are based on the belief that conflict among groups is unavoidable. According to Schmalleger (2015), conflict theorists highlight the stress that arise among a social group as they compete for resources and survival (p. 99). Conflict theorist believe that laws are tools of power which further the interests of those who make them. This allows for those in power to gain control of resources and deny accesses to disenfranchised groups (Schmalleger, 2015, p. 99). Sociological theories on crime causation are pretty different, but they are all built on certain foundations. According to Schmalleger (2015), sociological theorist ... • 39. The Affordable Care Act Amends The Flsa ( Fair Labor... Introduction Section 4207 of the Affordable Care Act amends the FLSA (Fair Labor Standards Act) Break Time for Nursing Mothers Provisions Breastfeeding is one of the best methods for providing infants with a healthy start to life. Breast milk helps the body fight off various bacteria and viruses that one s child might be at risk for catching. Breastfed babies are thirty six percent less likely to die from sudden infant death syndrome and are fifty five percent likely to become obese later in life, compared to babies who are not breastfeed. (Workplace and Public Accommodations for Nursing Mothers, 2016) Not only is the child benefiting from breastfeeding, the mother is as well. Women who breastfeed are more likely to revert to their ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Target Description This law is a federal law, so I would want to reach out to the federal legislator Joe Donnelley. Defining the Problem/ Assemble the Evidence This law was intended to help new mothers, but there are still gaps in this law. Some issues come from accessibility, coverage, and support. The Affordable Care Act requires employers to provide mothers that are breastfeeding with a reasonable time and a space to express their milk. Unfortunately, only forty percent of women returned to work with these accommodations. I believe this is an issue because forty percent is an extremely small number and if this is a law, then that mean that various employers are not giving nursing mothers the accommodation that they are supposed to have. Women are also facing challenges with getting lactation support for no expense, which is supposed to be covered under their insurance. Why pass a law to help nursing mothers if there are no records of mothers having access to it? It is important for most mothers that their child is healthy and it is not fair to tell them they have access to something that employers aren t giving them. Only six states have passed laws expanding workplace breastfeeding accommodations to additional employees or extending requirements for employers. I believe that extending the requirements for employers to make sure nursing mothers are getting the time and the place is extremely important because it makes ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 41. Causes Of The Sino-Japanese War The start of the Russo Japanese was made in January 1904. Previously, Japan had broken off diplomatic relations with Russia on February 6, 1904, following with the attack on Port Arthur February 8 and declaring war on Russia February 10. Over the span of a month, Korea was occupied by soldiers, advancing into the Manchurian territory and the Liaodong Peninsula occupied by naval forces. An August siege of Port Arthur followed the attack and fell in January 1905. Gradually, both powers found difficulty to continue fighting. The war ended with Theodore Roosevelt mediation; Japan had won which ensued the Portsmouth Treaty to grant Japan back it s sovereignty in China and Manchuria, along with special access to the Liaodong Peninsula. What were the underlying causes of the Russo Japanese War? To what extent did nationalism/imperialism contribute to the war? What did the government do to contribute to the war? Japan s motives for the war stemmed from tension made between Russia; the Triple Intervention and the construction of the Trans Siberian railroad. Imperialist and nationalistic motives drove Japan to change its leader of power and created a blanket of astigmatism throughout Japan s people, using authoritative and irrational actions, taking away human rights and installing many ideas. Before the war, events like the Sino Japanese War, Triple Intervention, Anglo Japanese Treaty, and the Trans Siberian railroad contributed to the tension. In 1894, the Sino Japanese War broke out between Japan and China, competing for their rights and interests in Korea; the result of the war lead to Japan s victory. Following the war, in 1895, the Triple Intervention (Russia, France, and Germany) entailed that Japan to retrocede all territorial victories from the war. This included to give back the Liaodong Peninsula to China and to resign control over China. Japan was in no state to risk military confrontation therefore couldn t fight back (Emergence of Modern Japan). Subsequently, Russia proceeded to build a railroad through Manchurian territory into the Liaodong Peninsula, continuing its expansionist policies in northeast Asia. Japan, in an effort to make a truce, Ito offered a trade off arrangement with Russia: Japan ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The game was created to meet the specific needs of children who are the siblings of a disabled child. The relationship of the author s game and the SEAL programme will be considered. Thereafter the way in which children acquire emotional understanding and its impact on social development will be explored. Finally the author will explain the reasoning for the game and how it will help to meet the unique needs of the children it was designed for. The authors game is designed to be used in support of, and as an extension to, the Social and Emotional Aspects of Learning (SEAL) programme Good to be me element (2005), which addresses the management of feelings, self awareness and showing empathy. The game is intended to be used with children who have a disabled sibling. The object of the game is twofold, firstly it is for the users to be able to recognise, name and talk about the emotions that they experience as a sibling of a disabled child, secondly to become aware that some of their peers are in similar situations to themselves which may help them feel less isolated. As Children develop they gain more emotional understanding, becoming aware of their own feelings and the feelings of others. • 44. After School Dropouts Do after school programs help close the academic gap in African American and Latino middle school students? Many middle school students who are failing academically will become part of the ever increasing drop out statistics in our nation. More than 7000 students in the U.S.become dropouts every school day, nearly 1.3 million students per year. It is estimated that dropouts from 2006 alone will cost taxpayers $17 billion in Medicaid and uninsured medical expenses alone over the ir lifetimes (Alliance for Excellence Education, 2010). Sadly, dropouts often have children that become dropouts and a cycle is created which continues (Dropout and TruancyPrevention,2011). Young adolescents offer afterschool providers a special set of challenges which they must overcome in order to attract and retain participants. For example, young adolescents are more autonomous, busier, better able and more likely to articulate specific needs, and less appeased by activities designed for a general audience. While youth in grades six through eight can clearly benefit from participation in afterschool, programs must recognize the needs of these youth and employ innovative strategies to attract and keep them engaged. The goal was to also gain a better understanding of the perceptions of administrators, teachers, and students in order to determine which aspects of the afterschool program were perceived as engaging and served to promote student achievement. As schools struggle to meet federal achievement standards, after school programs being viewed as a source of academic support for youth at risk of school failure.
