The Pitch
A teen/music/coming of age film
The Overview
A successful school bands kicks out a member of their band and she wants to
get revenges and ruin the reputation of the band and the new kid/member.
We haven't decided yet on a film name yet.
There is a variety of different films that we can associate and link our film to.
For example:
• Boyhood
• Sing Street
• Pitch Perfect
• The Perks of Being a Wallflower
Key Characters
The antagonist is a girl named Annie;
she is the 'popular girl'; she has a
reputation for being the lead singer in
a band and is known to be a good
singer; she is egotistical, only
thinking of herself, intelligent but
flaunts it in a narcissistic manor; she
comes from a wealthy background
which leads to her rude personality,
she is disrespectful to the other band
members.
The protagonist is a girl named Beth;
she loves music which is her
inspiration to play the guitar so she
can make her own music; she starts
off as the 'new kid'; she hasn't made
any friends in her previous school
which is what leads to her awkward
personality around the people in her
new school but besides that she is a
kind and caring person who puts the
people she cares about before her
AntagonistProtagonist
The other two band members are
named Johnathan and Morgan;
Johnathan is the bassist of the band
and Morgan is the drummer; both
and Annie are friends which caused
the start of the band, John is similar
to Annie in personality but more
lenient and understanding, Morgan is
the silent type and doesn't speak
much but he cares about the band's
success.

Idea's for our Promotional Campaign
The main genre for our film is teen drama, although we have sub-genres of coming of
age and music. We will make these genres clear in our marketing products.
As our film will be set in the 90's our color scheme will match that, it will be light
colors, not to bright or bold but enough to catch the audiences attention.
In the marketing products such as the poster, magazine cover and the trailer we are
going to emphasize each characters power and position in the film. For example, our
antagonist Annie, played by the role of Steph, will be pictured as a powerful character,
we will portray this by presenting her in front of other characters and by making her the
main image one of the marketing products.
The representation of the protagonist, Beth, played by Lizzie, will be portrayed as the
nice, kind and talented girl who wants to join the band and make a reputation for her
self. She wants to be known and recognised for her talent.
The other two characters, Johnathan, played by Roshane, and Morgan, played by Liam,
will be the two other members of the band. Johnathan and Morgan are close friends to
Annie but they both know not to challenge her, they're very overly nice to her as they
don’t want to upset her, in a sense they are scared of her.
Our idea for the teaser trailer
Key Events:
• New kid joins the school and starts out as an introvert
• Original band are seen playing by the new kid and she wants to
join
• The girl in the band starts slacking and eventually gets kicked
out and is replaced by the new girl
• We see the revenge plans start to unfold
The colour scheme of the trailer is quite bright but
muted which links to the decade we have gone for
(90s)
The text graphics that will be used will link to
the style of film and the decade in which it is
set
The poster
•On our poster we want contrasting colours because we want
to use this as a way to represent the differences between our
two main characters and the difference in personalities. We
want fairly light colours because we don’t want the films to
come across as another genre such as a thriller or horror film.
In popular culture and current teen films dark and melancholy
colours aren't used because it would give off a different sort
of feel and give of an atmosphere which is far off from the
genre of their film. For example the film poster for 'Easy A'
only primary and secondary colours are used, which are
colours that are bright. The film incorporates many
juxtaposing colours however, as the red connotes anger and
aggression whilst yellow connotes happiness and warmth and
green connoting stability and prosperity. These colours were
used to describe the complicated nature of the main character
as a recurring theme throughout the film and because she is
the only one featured on the poster. Another example of a
teen film is the fault in our stars, where the colours are more
subtle but still keep in with the key of teen films as well as
showing the romantic side of the film. This is shown through
the positioning of the characters where there faces are very
close to one another which suggest a close bond between the
two characters, the green grass in the back ground also
connotes a sense of warmth and from their facial expressions
shows the security they feel with one another, even though we
can tell that one of the characters are ill.
Magazine cover
Magazines are fairly simple in
layout and design, the name of the
magazine is at the top, the
respective movie as the front page,
the title and picture of the movie
is custom for the magazine and
usually mentioning on the side
such as the director or the
actor/actress, commending their
skills in directing/acting and one
or two comments about the
movie. Our magazine cover won't
be any different from the rest
Target Audience
•I chose Pitch Perfect to help decide who our target audience should be, I chose
this film because it is similar to what our film is going to be like, in terms of genre
and narrative.
•I used Pearl&Dean to research about Pitch Perfects target audience. I found out
that 15-24 year old's watched the film the most and the majority were females.
•I also researched Perks of being a Wallflower. I researched this film as its similar to
ours and we can use it to help us figure out who are target audience should be.
From the data you can see that 15-24 year old females watched the film more than
anyone else.
•From this data our target audience is going to be 15-24 year old females, but we
will have a secondary audience of 15-24 year old males.
