Buddhism originated in India 2,500 years ago and believes that human life is suffering that can be overcome through meditation, spiritual practice, and good behavior to reach enlightenment (nirvana). The ultimate goal of Buddhism is to become enlightened and attain nirvana, described as the end of the cycle of death and rebirth, by eliminating greed, hatred, and ignorance. Buddhists do not believe in a personal god but rather that change is always possible and enlightenment comes through morality, meditation and wisdom.
