- 1. Comparative study on three radio stations By Sultana Deea
- 2. LBC London News Opening: (Live) A male anchor said “This is LBC London News” twice, then adverts about communication and BMW used cars has been presented. After the adverts the male anchor had summarised all the news that they will be presenting. The news were presented in a specific order (prominence). Kinds of stories: (In order) Afghan hospital bombing, Russia attacks Syria, Two people dying from an aircraft crash, weather, rugby world cup, uber campaigns and illegal migrants getting across countries. Language: They have presented the name of the radio station multiple times and fast speaking which is conventional. Formal language is used as serious matters are being said. Forms of presenting: They have only used interviews over the phone to see someone’s views on illegal immigrants. Sound effects, music: Fast paced music was only played in the beginning during the summary so that the audience get interested in listening. However, throughout the rest of the broadcast they have not used any music. Dramatic sound effect is used when the anchor says “This is LBC, London News”.
- 3. BBC London 94.9 Opening: (live) A male anchor says “London News”, then a woman introduces herself and says what time the news is being live. Kinds of stories: (In order) Four men attacking a football player in South London, Brothers throwing acid at a 37-year-old woman, Russian army bombing Syria, Uber campaign and the Volkswagen scandal. Language: They have presented what the radio station is presenting (London news), which is conventional. However, they have started off with celebrity news instead of crime or political news (non-conventional). The talking was at a fast pace so that they are able to present as many interesting events as possible before the time is up. Compared to LBC London News, they have also used formal language, Forms of presenting: Phone calls and news reading have been used. Sound effects, music: No music were used. However, as the broadcast I have listened to was live, I may have missed fast music and dramatic sounds throughout the introduction.
- 4. 95.8 CAPITAL FM Opening: (live) A male anchor says “On FM, online, on Mobile, and digital radio. This Is capital news”. Kinds of stories: (In order) Nine people killed in a school by a gunman, sixteen year old boy attacks and kills a pregnant woman, Rugby world cup, “capital” weather and celebrity update. Language: They have presented what the radio station is and what devices you can use to listen to Capital FM, which is conventional. The talking was at a fast pace so that they are able to present as many bad events as possible before the the good news. Compared to LBC London News and BBC, they have also used formal language. The bad news were presented without hesitating. Forms of presenting: Outside broadcasts, two news reporters communicating and vox pop. Sound effects, music: No music were used. Dramatic sound effect which is used in all radio stations, and music is played after the celebrity news.
