These are handouts for a workshop that I'm doing tomorrow at the Singapore Expo as part of the SmartKids Asia Expo 2014 on the topic of multiple intelligences.

Beyond physical features, bones can provide clues to injuries, DNA, and cause of death. Forensic tools like CT scans, X-rays, microscopes and DNA analysis help analyze remains and identify individuals.

- Organisms are made up of different levels of organization, from cells to tissues to organs to organ systems. Cells are the basic units that make up all living things. They are grouped together to form more complex structures like tissues, organs, and organ systems.
- Organ systems work together within organisms to carry out essential functions like digestion, circulation, and excretion. The digestive system breaks down food, the circulatory system transports nutrients, and the excretory system removes waste.
- Both plants and animals are composed of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems. However, plant organ systems are specialized for functions like absorbing water and nutrients via roots or transporting resources via stems and leaves.
Lesson plan
This 1 hour lesson plan aims to teach 1st grade students about the human body. Students will learn the names and functions of various body parts through reading books, tracing a partner, and participating in exercise videos. The lesson incorporates singing, partner work, labeling diagrams, and questioning to engage different learning styles. Students will identify healthy behaviors and correct body part names in line with state standards.

This presentation will provide advice through examples of successful and not so successful interactive media projects. Our perspective is from an academic world, where evaluation and assessment are integrated into the entire logic model of development and workflow. Out goal is to produce innovative and engaging resources that enrich STEM and health literacy. While our target audience are late elementary through middle-school tweens, projects are developed with a general public audience in mind. Many projects have benefited from development carried out in concert with co-development of exhibits for local science museums, which then transition to schools and general public use. The materials produced have included animated digital dome, group interactive media, single-player video games, Apps, and interactive museum exhibits, tangible exhibits, comic books and broadcast television. Published studies on statistically significant learning will be discussed along with the imperative undercurrent of the need for the gaming experience to be fun.
My body

- 2. Analyze the Learners Teaching the human body’s primary systems and functions to a 5th grade classroom, 11 boys, 13 girls, 70% Caucasian, 25% African-American, and 5% Hispanic. 4 students in the class have mild to moderate ADHD.
- 3. Objective My students will comprehend the major functions and systems of the human body after singing songs, using movie maker, creating posters, interactive computer games, drawing life size replicas, and watching videos by the end of the week with 90% accuracy.
- 4. Day By Day Day 1: To start out, students will learn what are organs? What are their functions? Students will be introduced to the systems of the body such as: Cardiovascular, Skeletal, Respiratory, Digestive, and Nervous. Day 2: Students will learn the 1st major system of the body, Skeletal. What are bones? What is their role? Day 3: Students will review the 2nd major system of the human body, Cardiovascular. What are arteries and veins? What are the significant organs?
- 5. Day By Day [cont.] Day 4: Students will identify the 3rd major system of the body, Nervous. What is the brain’s primary function? What is the spinal chord? Day 5: Students will learn the 4th and 5th major systems of the body, Digestive and Respiratory. How long is the large intestine? What is the function of the lungs?
- 6. Use of Technology YouTube: Sing songs and watch videos, such as “Hannah Montana-Bone Dance” Windows Movie Maker: Students will be placed in groups of 3-4. They will use YouTube videos as an inspiration and create their own human body songs. iPad: Interactive games on websites, such as www.edheads.org PowerPoint: Students will research a specific disease dealing with the human body in groups of 2 and create a presentation using PowerPoint.
