2. 8AM-8:30: ALL ARRIVE/FREE-PLAY
• When the children show up to preschool, it is very important for
them to play and get all of their energy out so when its time for
circle time, they will not be as wound up and can listen inventively.
• The teachers roll will be to set up new play centers once a month
and to ensure the students stay in line, safe and are having fun.
• This 30 minutes will give the children a chance to hang up their
coats and get a drink of water, maybe go potty before they play.
• The developmental milestone reached in this 30 minute span
would be engaging in fantasy play.
3. 8:30 TO 9:15 SCIENCE CENTER
• In the science center there will be a rather large bowl filled with water. Next to the
bowl will be a piece of bark, a baseball, a Lego, and leaf and a pencil. The
children will then have to guess what will sink and what will float. I will have a
chart with all of the children's guesses and thoughts on what will sink or float.
• The teacher’s roll will be to have all of the children stand around the bowl. Then I
will allow the children to feel all of the objects that will go into the water. When
they guess what they believe will happen, I will write down their guesses in a
chart, then I will write down what happens. After all of the objects are in the water
and the children cans see what sinks or what floats, I will then explain because of
the oxygen inside of each object.
• Rationale- This project is important so children can learn about matter and what
happens to certain things in water. This will broaden their understanding of the
world we live in.
• Tries solving problems from single point of view (Milestone)
4. 9:15-10: CIRCLE TIME"
• Circle time is very important because it allows the children to wind down a tiny bit, and
listen to story time while also learning about the calendar, time and analyzing the story
while singing songs.
• The teachers roll will be to ensure the students are listening attentively with their hands
in their lap. After I read the story “Brown Bear Brown Bear”, I will ask the children
questions about the story. We will then check the weather and learn not only the days
of the week but also the months of the year. I will teach them the days of the week and
months of the year song and we will go though that multiple times until the children
understand. After that I will teach them the parts of the clock and what each object on
the clock stands for.
• The milestone is this reaching is “recalling part of a story” and “beginning to have a
clear sense of time.
• The rationale for this lesson is to ensure children have a understanding of time, date,
weather and months of the year. When giving a child such important imformation they
will learn new things every single day related to weather, time and dates.
5. 10-10:30: ART TIME"
• From circle time, we will transition over to the art table. I have drawn a different
animal on each piece of paper from the “Brown Bear” book we read in circle time.
• On the construction paper, each child will color in the animal they were given, and
write one line that your animal says. This will allow the children to each make a
different page in their very own book. After every student has completed their
books, I will staple them together and read the new story a little later.
• As the teacher, I will give each child their own construction paper with their very
own animal on it. Then I will write down what the children want to say on their
page of the book and they will trace over it.
• The rationale of this activity is to have the children use their memories from the
story I read to them and color the animal however they please while writing their
own book. This opens the eyes of children and they love to color and feel like they
are a part of something when it comes to writing their own book.
• Milestone-Correctly name some colors and Recalls parts of a story
6. 10:30-11: SNACK TIME"
• During this time, one person will be in the kitchen with me helping me set up
while the others are in their seats at the lunch table singing songs together. Once
the food is all ready to be prepared the students will pass around the napkins and
water cups.
• Animal Cookies and Pretzels
• The teachers roll is to make sure that there are no allergies in the class, and
ensure the children washed their hands before snack.
• The rationale to this is to ensure that children get fed and fueled for the rest of
the day. Snack is very important and it helps children with their manners and
keeping their hands to themselves.
• The Milestone the children are reaching here is “Try different healthy foods from a
variety of cultures. Help to set and clear the table for meals. Self serve meal
items. “
7. 11-11:15: FREE-PLAY
• Free play after lunch is very important because children need a chance to get the
rest of their energy out. If it is raining they will play inside with the center of the
month or play in the sensory table filled with rice.
• The teachers roll during free play is to ensure all of the children remain happy and
healthy. They can play games with the children and ensure that the children are
all having fun.
• The milestone that the children are reaching is “Engages in fantasy play”. I have
noticed that children like to pretend that everything in the playground is either a
rocket ship or a castle.
8. 11:15-11:45: CIRCLE TIME"
• In this 30 minute span, it is very important that the children sit quietly and listen
to the story.
• The teacher’s roll is to read the story that the children put together and ask them
if they have any questions. Then after I will read the original “Brown Bear” book.
Then I will ask the children what the two stories had in common and what was
different. And I will explain the word common.
• The Milestones reached here are “Correctly name some colors”, “Tries solving
problems from single point of view” and Recalls parts of a story.”
9. 11:45-12:CLEAN UP/READY TO GO HOME
• In this last 15 minutes children will take this time to put their shoes back on, zip
up their jackets and help the teacher clean up all the books, blocks and other
toys on the floor.
• The teachers roll will be to give the children instructions and inform them on the
jobs that need to be done. When the children are done cleaning up, and waiting
for their parents they can go outside and play, or if its raining they can play for a
couple more minutes. My roll would also be to ensure that everybody is happy and
healthy when they leave my school.
• The milestones covered include: “Engages in fantasy play” and “Tries solving
problems from single point of view”
