2. · Materials and resources: food flashcards, “magic bag”, computer
or TV( if it is available), internet connection, real food to prepare
sandwiches ( ham, cheese, bread, lettuce, tomato, butter),
· Pedagogical use of ICT in class or at home: In this lesson, students
will be working with the song “Let´s make a sandwich song”. The
link will be notified to the parents so that they can continue using
it at home. Students will be reinforcing and enhancing their
learning process.
· Seating arrangement: in order to maintain visual contact with the
group, they will be sitting down in a semi-circle on the floor.
Then, when going to the room where the projector is, they will be
sitting down on row chairs. Finally, they will be sitting around
table for them to be able to concentrate and complete their sitting
activity.
· Assessment: what will be assessed and how: I will check that
students comprehend and identify the different food items by
asking them to point/show the corresponding flashcard. I will
also check that they can reproduce the name of them correctly,
when playing. The students’ singing the song is a form of
assessment as well.
Stages in the lesson
BREAK TIME
2nd PERIOD
Warm-up
Purpose: to start the lesson, get students into the mood for work.
Timing: 5 minutes
Before getting in the classroom, I will tell the children: “Come in and sit
down on the floor in a semi-circle.”
I will take out my magic bag again and tell them it contains something
new!
“You know what? I have something new inside my magic bag! Would
you like to see whatit is?”
St: Yes!
I will take out flashcards of:
Ham, cheese, tomato, lettuce, butter and bread.
3. Presentation
Purpose: to introduce the topic and the teaching
Timing: 5 minutes
I will tell them:
“What do you think we can do with all these things?” We have got, ham,
cheese, tomato, lettuce, butter and bread…what do you think that we
can prepare with all of them together? I will give you a clue; this is what
Mary offers Patty when they are having tea!”
St: a sandwich!
“yes!”
“We are going to make a sandwich here on the board, but I will need
your help! What do you think is the first thing we are going to use? Is
the lettuce the first item we need to start preparing it?”
St: No!
“Is bread what we need first?”
St: Yes!
“Good, Can I have a volunteer to come to the front and stick the next
food item on board?”
St: me! Pick me please!
And so on, until we finish “preparing” the sandwich.
“Very good!”
DEVELOPMENT
ACTIVITY 1
4. Timing: 10 minutes
Purpose: To engage the students to make language focus
Game: Is it…? game. Guessing the sandwich component they
picked.
Materials: Eyes cover (mask), magic bag and sandwich items
flashcards.
“Look what we are going to do now! I will take out all the sandwich
components and sort them in my magic bag. Like this! (I shake the
magic bag containing all the flashcards). Then, one of you will come to
the front, sit down next to me and I will cover your eyes with this mask
and you will take out one of the flashcards. After that, without peeping,
you will have to guess which item you have between your hands. Like
this! (I will put the mask on, take out one and pretend to guess what I
have in my hands). The rest will have to say if you have guessed or not.
You will have 3 tries.”
“Is it bread?”
St: No, it isn’t.
“Is it ham?”
St: yes it is!
“Good! Who would like to be the first one to come to the front?”
Transition: “well done! Now, I have something special for you… I think
you never used this in your classroom before.”
Development
ACTIVITY 1
Timing: 10 minutes
Materials: I will use the same flashcards as before. I will need the
computer or TV (if it is available). If the TV is not available, then I will
ask students to sit down closer, so as to be able to watch properly.
Purpose: to further expose the learners to the target language.
I will tell the kids: “now we are going listen to a song about preparing a
sandwich, like the one Patty and Mary have for their tea-time. I will
bring something special for you to listen and watch!” Do you know what
this is? (showing them the device)”
St: yes, a computer/tv!
“Good, are you ready to start watching and listening?”
St: yes!
I will play the song : Let’s make a sandwich song.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mK4O8hi30UA
Once we finish listening to it once, I will ask 6 students to come to the
front, choose one of the flashcards and say its name out loud (with my
help if necessary) and hold it.
I will play the song again and while listening to the song, I will ask the
student who is holding the item that the song mentions, to raise it or
give a step forward.
“Good, now, we are going to listen to the song again and you must play
close attention, because when you listen to the name of the food you
have in your hands, you will have to give a step forward or raise it. Like
this!” (And I will model how to do it).
5. “Very good! Let´s give them a clap!! Bravo!”
Then I will ask for more volunteers to go away and repeat the
procedure. I will pay close attention to try and make everyone
participate at least once along all of the activities presented in Lesson 1
and Lesson 2.
Activity 3
Purpose: To have real contact with the different language items.
Timing: 10 minutes
Materials: ham, cheese, bread, lettuce, tomato
I will sing the following chant while showing them my magic bag again:
I have a surprise,
I have a surprise,
I have a surprise for you. (Pointing at them)
I have a surprise,
I have a surprise,
I have a surprise for you! (Pointing at them)
I will take out from the bag: ham, cheese, bread, lettuce, tomato and tell
them:
“Look what I brought!” and pointing to an item I will encourage them to
say the name of each of them:
St: bread, cheese, lettuce, tomato and ham!
“Would you like to prepare sandwiches and eat them for our tea time?”
(K5 students’ have snack time at 3 o’clock)
St: Yes!!!!
“Good to know!”
“Pull up your sleeves and go to the toilettes to wash your hands”
Meanwhile, I will displace the components on each table so that
everybody can prepare their own sandwich.
Once they are all back, I will tell them to sit down around the tables and
prepare their own sandwich. While doing it, I will play the song we have
learnt (Let’s make a sandwich song) and will encourage them to sing it
with me.
Closure:
While having their “snack”, I will ask them:
“Did you like preparing you sandwiches?”
St: Yes!
“Now, Miss Sophie is going home, so let’s say good bye all together”:
Goodbye, goodbye (waving my hands)
It’s time to say goodbye (tapping my finger against my wrist)
I am going home, I am going home (rolling my hands)
Good bye, good bye! (Waving my hands)
Homework:
I will be sending an e-mail to the students’ parents posting the link
where they can play the song “how to make a sandwich song”, so that
they can continue singing it at home!
6. Queridas familias,

Miss Sophie.
