EPA Method TO-17 is used to determine toxic compounds in air after they have been collected onto sorbent tubes. These tubes can either adsorb specific compounds or adsorb a broad range of compounds, quantitatively. Adsorbent tubes have many applications in the investigation of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) found in EPA Method TO-17. Examples include indoor air, fence line, stack, workplace, personal monitoring and soil gas. The type of tube used, and whether the sampling is passive or active, depends upon the need at the particular site being investigated. This application note demonstrates that the PerkinElmer TurboMatrix™ Thermal Desorber and the PerkinElmer Clarus® SQ 8 GC/MS will meet and exceed the criteria set forth in EPA method TO-17. Detailed instrument method parameters are presented, with precision, recovery, linearity and detection limit results.

Dewatering Waste Activated Sludge Using Greenhouse-Gas Flotation followed by ...Medhat Elzahar
The aim of this study is to develop a simple method
for dewatering waste-activated sludge (WAS) for easier reuse
and safer disposal of sludge. The paper builds on the success of
a new flotation technique developed in previous research by the
author utilizing the high water solubility of CO2 gas along with
the model-gas (80%N2+20%CO2). The paper introduces a
simple laboratory model for dewatering WAS in two stages,
flotation followed by centrifugation. The first stage enables
recycling a mixture of greenhouse gases containing 20% of CO2
and 80% of N2 gases by volume. The second stage uses a simple
centrifuge model for dewatering WAS. Experiments were
carried out to reduce the moisture content and volume of WAS.
This was executed by generating low pressure using centrifugal
force introduced by a simple centrifuge apparatus. Using the
experimental dewatering model, promising results were
obtained for dewatering WAS. Furthermore, additional data
were obtained, such as the effect of temperature on the
efficiency of dewater-ability. It is hoped that the results of this
study will lead to more study for the efficient reuse of
greenhouse gases. This can happen by collecting and recycling
industrial emissions of fossil fuels then utilizing them in
wastewater and sludge treatment, thereby decreasing the
resulting harmful effects of these gases on global warming.

Effective Moisture Diffusivity and Activation Energy of Tomato in Thin Layer ...drboon
The aim of this paper is to report tomato slice moisture diffusivity data determined and activation energy from experimental drying kinetics. The thin-layer drying experiments were carried out under five air temperatures of 40, 50, 60, 70 and 80ºC, two air velocity 1.5, and 2 m/s and three level of relative humidity 20, 40 and 60%. It was observed that drying took place in the falling rate period. Moisture transfer from tomato slice was described by applying the Fick’s diffusion model. The effective diffusivity values changed from 9.9119×10^-10 to 6.4037×10^-9 m^2/s for the range of temperatures considered. An Arrhenius relation with an activation energy value of 33.3299 to 43.2287 kJ/mol and the diffusivity constant value of 1.7695×10^-4 to 3.09156×10^-2 m^2/s were obtained which shows the effect of drying air temperature, air velocity and relative humidity on the diffusivity.

Em consonância com os ODS – Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável e a Estratégia Global para a Saúde das Mulheres, Crianças e Adolescentes, e aplicando uma abordagem baseada nos direitos humanos, os esforços de cuidados pós-natais devem expandir-se para além da cobertura e da simples sobrevivência, de modo a incluir cuidados de qualidade.
Estas diretrizes visam melhorar a qualidade dos cuidados pós-natais essenciais e de rotina prestados às mulheres e aos recém-nascidos, com o objetivo final de melhorar a saúde e o bem-estar materno e neonatal.
Uma “experiência pós-natal positiva” é um resultado importante para todas as mulheres que dão à luz e para os seus recém-nascidos, estabelecendo as bases para a melhoria da saúde e do bem-estar a curto e longo prazo. Uma experiência pós-natal positiva é definida como aquela em que as mulheres, pessoas que gestam, os recém-nascidos, os casais, os pais, os cuidadores e as famílias recebem informação consistente, garantia e apoio de profissionais de saúde motivados; e onde um sistema de saúde flexível e com recursos reconheça as necessidades das mulheres e dos bebês e respeite o seu contexto cultural.
Estas diretrizes consolidadas apresentam algumas recomendações novas e já bem fundamentadas sobre cuidados pós-natais de rotina para mulheres e neonatos que recebem cuidados no pós-parto em unidades de saúde ou na comunidade, independentemente dos recursos disponíveis.
É fornecido um conjunto abrangente de recomendações para cuidados durante o período puerperal, com ênfase nos cuidados essenciais que todas as mulheres e recém-nascidos devem receber, e com a devida atenção à qualidade dos cuidados; isto é, a entrega e a experiência do cuidado recebido. Estas diretrizes atualizam e ampliam as recomendações da OMS de 2014 sobre cuidados pós-natais da mãe e do recém-nascido e complementam as atuais diretrizes da OMS sobre a gestão de complicações pós-natais.

Current test methods include JIS Z 2801 and BS ISO 22196:2011
• “Temperature of (35 ± 1) C and a relative humidity of not less than 90 % for

airflow of not more than 2m/s at a vent face (UK, Dept for Health, 2007)

Time taken for RH % to reach target of 43% (indicated by solid vertical line). Each
condition contained 75 g of potassium carbonate (K2CO3) mixed with 50 g of water (to
create a slurry) and evenly spread over either 64 cm2(condition 1), 128 cm2(condition 2),
192 cm2 (condition 3) or 256 cm2 (condition 4). Data points are every five minutes. Each
condition was repeated three times.

Time taken for RH% to revert from the RH % achieved using potassium carbonate
(K2CO3) to the initial RH % after taking the lid off the glass chamber after condition 4
experiments. Data points are pooled from three repeats and error bars (where visible)
represent standard deviation.

• In a test chamber, the surface area upon which the saturated salts
are spread is an important factor in the time taken for a RH%
target to be achieved
• If the lid of a test chamber is opened (for example to remove a
sample), the RH% is revert back to that of the local environment
very quickly
• If multiple samples in one chamber, they will receive varying
levels of RH% across an experiment

temperature closer to hospital ward (20-22.9C)
• The absence of any airflow significantly (p<0.05) increased the
drying time across all volumes
