Waarom is het zo moeilijk om te doen wat we ons voornemen? Of juist vaste gewoontes af te leren als ze ons (toch duidelijk) de verkeerde richting op duwen? De oorzaak is simpel, die licht ergens in ons brein verscholen. De exacte onderliggende mechanismen zijn echter wat minder eenvoudig want ons brein heeft tot nu toe een hoog ‘black box’ gehalte.
Technische innovatie op het gebied van genetica, het maken van hersenscans en het doen van onderzoek bij muizen helpen ons die ‘black box’ steeds verder te openen. Ons brein is het resultaat van – en de belangrijkste drijver achter – honderden miljoenen jaren evolutie waarin wij ons hebben ontwikkeld van eencellig organisme tot de complexe menselijke soort die we nu zijn. Toch is de taak van ons brein (en de voorloper daarvan) gedurende die periode niet wezenlijk veranderd: ons brein helpt ons omgaan met de complexe en veranderende wereld om ons heen. De manier waarop ons brein dat doet is echter niet hetzelfde gebleven. Director's Challenge | Wij zijn pas winst gaan maken toen wij stopten met het najagen van winst!
Per jaar produceren wij 80.000 ton aan afval. Als wij zo doorgaan, komt onze volgende generatie om in het afval en is er geen weg terug. Wij moeten nú veranderen om het sneeuwbaleffect van klimaatverandering tegen te houden en een gezonde toekomst te kunnen waarborgen.
Wij kunnen en mogen niet wachten totdat de wetgeving ons dwingt om maatregelen te nemen waar uiteindelijk niemand profijt van heeft; bedrijven zullen de eerste stap moeten nemen om die figuurlijke stap in de juiste richting te zetten. Maatschappelijk verantwoord ondernemen is niet moeilijk, een kleine stap richting duurzaamheid is snel gezet. Na die eerste kleine stap volgt een tweede kleine stap, en daarna nog een. Voor je het weet heb je het duurzaamheidsvirus te pakken en verspreid het zich door je hele organisatie. Dat virus weet zich snel te verspreiden naar je klanten, partners en leveranciers. Als jij toekomstgericht onderneemt, kom je er niet onderuit: langdurig succes zit in duurzaam ondernemen. Iedereen weet het, maar niet iedereen doet het al. De early adopters zullen het meeste profiteren.
De grondstoffen die wij massaal van de aarde plunderen zoals olie en gas, blijven niet voor eeuwig beschikbaar. Op dit moment gebruiken wij 1,6x de capaciteit van de aarde, waardoor we een enorm gat achterlaten in de natuur. We bereiken bijna een tipping point waarin er geen grondstof meer over is om uit de aarde te trekken. Zodra we dit hebben bereikt, is het te laat.
De mindset die we nu hebben – winstgericht ondernemen – is gebaseerd op een economie waarin alles in overvloed aanwezig is. Door de trend op economisch vlak, de transitie naar ciruculair ondernemen, en de klimaatverandering, zijn we genoodzaakt ook onze traditionele manier voor ondernemen te veranderen. We moeten groeien naar een nieuwe mindset waarin we allemaal besmet zijn met het duurzaamheidsvirus en winstgevend ondernemen meer is dan alleen de cijfers op onze bankrekening.

De visie van Joop Petit is eenvoudig: vertrekken is beter dan piekeren over het doel. Geen dikke plannen maar doen. Volg het gevoel en gebruik het verstand. En natuurlijk maak lol onderweg, en niet te serieus.
ONDERNEMEND BLOED
Als kind plukt hij de kersen bij de buren om ze vervolgens in een zakje aan de voordeur te verkopen. “Maar we hebben zelf kersen”, “Ja, dat weet ik (Jopi), maar deze zijn lekkerder (met een glimlach), echt waar, proef maar!” En hup, weer een gulden verdient. Tijdens zijn studie aan de TU Eindhoven begint hij in 1992 aan zijn eerste echte onderneming en koopt voor de huisvesting zijn eerste echte pand, een stadspandje in het hartje van Sittard. Het architectenbureau groeit en in 1996 volgt de eerste verhuizing naar een groter, monumentaal pand. Veel te groot. Om de casus rond te krijgen worden kleine ondernemingen in de zorg aangetrokken om het gros van de kamers te vullen. Hier wordt de basis al gelegd voor wat in 2013 De WERKplaats zou worden. In de loop van de jaren worden steeds meer bij-huurders opgezegd om zo het architectenbureau de benodigde ruimte te geven. In 1999 is Vola & Petit Architecten de enige gebruiker in de prachtige villa.
Kortom een ondernemer pur sang die u graag meeneemt in zijn visie over ondernemen tijdens deze bijeenkomst waarin hij u meeneemt naar zijn Second, Third en Fourth step van zijn carrière als ondernemer.
SECOND STEP
Joop denkt na over de groei en concludeert dat autonome groei niet de gewenste snelheid gaat opleveren om spraakmakende en aansprekende projecten te gaan realiseren. Een fusie of overname met een gerenommeerd bureau biedt soelaas. In Maastricht wordt Snelder Architecten aangesproken. Een bureau met een uitstekende staat van dienst in de woningbouw, utiliteitsbouw en de zorg. Het provinciehuis Limburg is daar een spraakmakend voorbeeld van.
THIRD STEP
In bureau Satijn wordt een partij gevonden die gespecialiseerd is in woningbouw, zorg en monumenten en herbestemming. Een fantastische combinatie met utiliteitsbouw. In 2005 ontstaat SATIJNplus. Joop geeft naast leiding aan de reguliere utiliteitstak vorm aan het R&D Team, SpA Academie en ontwikkeld daarmee bijzondere producten en processen. Bekende voorbeelden uit die tijd zijn het Kruisheren Hotel in Maastricht, Boekenhandel Dominicanen in de Dominicaner kerk te Maastricht en Qbic Hotel in Amsterdam en Londen.
FOURTH STEP
Op 1 oktober 2013 start Joop zijn nieuwe onderneming: Phidias Community Innovation, een multidisciplinair team dat werkt aan projecten op het gebied van vastgoed en exploitatie waarbij de gebruiker altijd centraal staat, altijd.

Recent onderzoek laat zien dat van alle MKB-bedrijven in Nederland ca. 70% niet of nauwelijks groeit of zelfs krimp laat zien, terwijl het merendeel van de MKB-ondernemers wel degelijk groeiambities heeft. Het fascineert ons enorm dat er bedrijven zijn die wel dubbele groeicijfers laten zien en zich ook op andere terreinen flink ontwikkelen. Dat deze bedrijven dus aantoonbaar iets anders doen en het anders aanpakken. Dat ze groeien door te excelleren.

Tijdens deze sessie zal Blockchain specialist, trainer en spreker Badreddine Tazrouti, die als een van de eerste studenten in Nederland zijn scriptie over dit onderwerp heeft mogen schrijven, ingaan om de laatste trends en ontwikkelingen in Blockchain land, voorbeelden van werkende Blockchain toepassingen tonen, en een aantal lessen bespreken van Blockchain implementatie projecten.
Het vertrouwen in grote centrale organisaties en instellingen zoals banken, technologiebedrijven en overheden staat onder druk. In de digitale wereld werken zij vaak vertragend, rekenen hoge kosten (bijv. voor internationale transacties) en wordt hun toegevoegde waarde daarom steeds vaker betwijfeld.
De Blockchain, het grootboek van Bitcoin en verschillende andere cryptocurrencies, zorgt ervoor dat essentiële taken van ‘vertrouwde derde partijen’, ook wel ‘trusted third parties’, geautomatiseerd kunnen worden. Dit gebeurt door het gebruik van sterke wiskundige formules, binnen een samenwerking/netwerk van ketenpartijen.

HANS VAN DEN BOR’S loopbaan begon feitelijk in de poelierszaak van zijn vader. Na de studie trad hij in dienst bij het NVOB (Nederlands Verbond Ondernemers in de Bouwnijverheid). Daarna werd hij management trainee bij Nationale-Nederlanden dat later opging in ING. Hij was secretaris van de hoofddirektie Nederland en vervulde management – en directiefuncties bij Nationale-Nederlanden, Postbank, ING Service Center Claims. Onlangs trad hij terug als directievoorzitter van RegioBank. RegioBank ( een franchisebank met ruim 530 franchisenemers en daarmee een van de grootste franchiseformules van Nederland, actief buiten de grote steden) heeft onder zijn leiding een grote ontwikkeling doorgemaakt. RegioBank is door klanten verkozen tot Beste bank van Nederland, meest klantvriendelijke bank van Nederland en meest klantgerichte bank van Nederland. RegioBank is genomineerd als Marketing Company of The Year. Hans studeerde rechten (Utrecht), bedrijfskunde (Leuven) en volgde het General Management Programme bij CEDEP/INSEAD en het Senior Executive Programma aan de London Business School.
